Why Isn’t White Castle A Fast-Food Giant?

- White Castle is widely considered to be the first hamburger fast-food chain in the United States. It's famous for small, cheap hamburger sliders and its role in the 2004 stoner comedy "Harold & Kumar Go to White Castle." Despite its notoriety, the brand has a limited footprint in the Midwest and Northeast. So why is White Castle not nearly as big as rivals like McDonald's and Burger King?

Gotta respect their business model... "yeah we could sell out - but f- that, we're doing it our way & we're happy with that"
Except none of you have watched the video. White Castle is literally doing what you say they’re not. The video talks about them accepting a deal from a massive money hungry corporation in China. They also have locations in Singapore and Japan. Also a “family company” in Las Vegas. This is only the beginning.

FACTS!
None in my state, except in the frozen section at walmart.
sometimes Dollar Tree has 2 packs for 1.00
They sell in Walmart too in Georgia. They’re alright. I put on my own slices of cheese though.
The veggie burger at White Castle, was probably one of the best veggie burgers, I've ever had. If White Castle had a location in Texas, I would go there for their veggie burgers, but as for their regular burgers, places like Culvers, What A Burger, In and Out, Country Burger...etc... are better. Based on news articles, it appears that they are bringing "one" White Castle to Florida in Orlando, near Disney World.
My first experience with eating a White Castle burger was from the frozen food section, and it was not good. Like many who were not previously familiar with that place, because it's not in every location, the movie Harold and Kumar drew interest to it. A few years ago, when I was traveling across the United States, I saw a White Castle in Missouri, and tried both the hamburger slider and the veggie burder slider. I've had much better burgers in Texas, so White Castle doesn't really rank up there with anything great, in my opinion. But I can understand those who were raised on it, having a strong preference for it, just like a lot of people in California like Carls Jr, which I also don't care for.
My state has the corporate headquarters and at few dozen of them.. none closer than an hours drive though.. which sadly me and my buddies have been known to make for no other reason than to go to white castles. i never understood it either. it's ok but it's not like I think it's better than other burger joints. hell, I prefer Checkers/Rallies and it's only 5 minutes away..

I grew up in Minnesota, we have tons of them. When some friends came up from Texas they insisted on eating there once a day. We thought that was so weird.

@@keithkelson726 Exactly
I just think they don't want to compete with Krystal for the south.
No most people would know that it's actually the economy and other franchises. You're competiting against Mc Donald's, In & out, taco Bell, Chipotle, Wendy's, Canes etc.
@@keithkelson726 I agree. And certain metropolitan areas are guaranteed successes. Boston, Philadelphia, DC, Charlotte, Atlanta. All of which White Castle has ignored. I just don't get it. Their cult status alone would guarantee them selling out in their first days of opening in these particular markets. Their expansion model seems kinda backwards to me.

I would like to see white castle come to Australia. On the same note of white castle style burgers Hungry Jacks (which is burger king here in australia) did sell tiny mini burger at one stage and I loved them.
Love them! We call them Murder Burgers” in NYC. Do NOT eat, unless you have a bathroom VERY close.
or Ratburgers
Hahaha
facts!!
I had my first White Castle in Las Vegas and I loved it!
Growing up in Cali and visiting family in Missouri, going to White Castle is one of my favorite memories.
I wished they would come to Atlanta, they need to go to areas where people that grew up eating their food moved and their frozen food has thrived. Even maybe airports
My wife, who's from St. Louis, would love it if they built White Castles in Atlanta and the metro area.
Krystal
We have Krystals in Atlanta. Same thing.
@@donelbenyisrael3867 not exactly. They have mustard on their burgers and use a bigger bun.
Leroy Proud Hold the mustard. Lol
Its the one thing I missed when I moved to Texas. I wish one would open around Dallas area.
One nice thing about White Castle is when I was a little girl we went to White Castle I am 63 now I can still go to White Castle and their hamburgers remain the same it's wonderful
There's a reason why they are called Sliders, 5 minutes later you are on the Throne :)
@J S they make you poop.
Bad beef?
"Sliders" due to the patties being cooked on an angled griddle, and the patties slide down as they are cooked. Poop due to the grease, not the meat. Same results as most fast food.
@@richardm3023 grease or quality of oil? I'm wondering why its not being addressed... guessing it's related to money
@@indahpratiwi4308 can't complain about cheap fast food. you know what you're eating
