Cautiously optimistic about War of the Rohirrim. I hope the studio has learned that fans will not go watch a movie that doesn’t respect Tolkien like we do.

From what I read, the main character is not cannon. So I'll just expect it to suck, and hope to be proven wrong.

Me thinking about upcoming LOTR projects: I have no memory of this place
I honestly didn't notice that a year has passed since the Show Which Should not be Named began. It still feels too soon for it to come back. At the time, two years until next season felt like a long time. Now, it's much too short
So you said "we'll see if Amazon listened to the criticisms" regarding Rings of Power. I don't think it will make any difference if they adjust things for season 2. They've given us nothing to love about season 1, not even the characters, so they have nothing worthwhile to build off of. The only solution that could feasibly make for a decent show is a complete restart from scratch of the series.
Not to mention that they were so full of themselves, they were filming the second season even as the poop was still smoldering in the dumpster fire of season 1 so what would they have listened too except to scoop and throw out everything but we know they don't do that with anything except money.
Agreed, aside from Durin's relationship with his dad, the show made it really hard to care for any relationship

@@lornarutkowsky3156 - it doesn’t matter if you personally love it, the ONLY REASON it exists is because of Tolkien and his fans who have obsessed over and adored his work for decades. Rings of Power was ONLY made because the creators of it said “we have a cash cow here with all these Tolkien fans so let’s make our own story, but we’ll put Tolkien’s name to it, and all his millions of fans will rush to watch it”. I assure you they would NOT have made it if they didn’t think they had an instant audience due to Tolkien’s name being involved.
And what happened? We all hate it because they spat all over Tolkien’s legacy and threw it in our faces.
We have every right to be disgusted and abhorred. You have every right to love it.. but remember it only exists BECAUSE of us and our love for Tolkien. Yes Amazon desecrated everything about it, but they wouldn’t have made it if it wasn’t for the fans that have kept Tolkien’s legacy alive all these decades. If it wasn’t for us they’d have chosen something else beloved to take a steaming dump on and you wouldn’t have your beloved Rings of Power.
Rings of Power season 2 can have a fate worse than Numenor for all I care. I'm curious about War of the Rohirrim though. I would love the whole movie having pre-Rohan men only speak anglo-saxon but that's not terribly likely
I have a good feeling about War of the Rohirrim, much more difficult to mess that up compared to a live action series, plus LOTR animation is something we haven't seen for so long so it's a breath of fresh air.
But Rings of Power has nothing to do with Tolkiens works!

Also Part of me is kind of hoping that War of the Rohirrim gets an Extended cut and Appendices. But it hasn't even come out yet. But the one thing I hope for the most is that WB don't write it off for taxes.
I'm looking forward to The War Of The Rohirrim for sure. ROP of Power? forget it. Amazon has not learned it's lesson and simply doesn't care. They're using Tolkien's secondary world for their own agenda. It's basically their bizarro version of the Second Age events of a counterfeit Arda that is not recognizable to us Tolkien readers. To be honest I hope the series is cancelled maybe after season 3.
In War of the Rohirrim they brought back Miranda Otto to play Eowyn and Brian Cox as Helm Hammerhand. Too good! I hope it delivers.

since i didnt see another comment mention it, im hopeful that i will be able to be excited about Tales of the Shire. I have many ideas of what it could be but i mainly hope it just captures Tolkien's idea of what hobbits are, i think it will be satisifying so long as they get that alone

That's an interesting question. Because there's a Godzilla movie that just came out recently in Japan. 😂😂 That film did surprisingly well.

Moria - Through the Doors of Durin a major supplement for The One Ring RPG should be coming out towards the end of the year. The One Ring RPG is a fantastic adaptation and well worth covering.
War of the Rohirrim looks like it could be really good! I hope they do it justice! 😅
I heard a few months back that there is a Lego LOTR movie coming out in 2025 I think, not sure if that’s fact or rumor though.
As an enormous fan of Disney Dreamlight Valley (cozy game with a huge following) over the last year and also an enormous LOTR fan I have a NEED for that Tales of the Shire game!!! Thanks for calling it out so I can keep an eye out for a release.

No tabletop game updates? Free League should be releasing their Moria expansions this year for both The One Ring and The Lord of the Rings Roleplaying (5E). The TOR expansion is titled: Moria -- Through the Doors of Durin. The 5E conversion is called: Moria -- Shadow of Khazad-dûm. Neither is available for pre-order yet; a release date is yet to be announced.

I share your enthusiasm for LOTRO, as it has been my favorite and initial major MMORPG since 2007. Unfortunately, for me, it has gradually lost some of its MMORPG essence due to numerous weird, half done systems, LOTRO store, and other elements that personally deter me when seeking an immersive mmo-ROLE PLAYING GAME experience. Nevertheless, the retail version of LOTRO remains an outstanding Middle-Earth exploration game with an awesome cosy community.
With this said I am particularly excited about the upcoming Echoes of Angmar in 2024. This presents a dream come true, allowing me to relive and explore the dangerous Eriador, reminiscent of my experiences in 2007. Regrettably, it is a private server, but it currently stands as the best alternative available.

All we can really hope for is the utter failure of Rings of Power. If Amazon loses enough money, maybe they will finally stop modernizing everything and ignoring actual source material.
To be honest ROP feels like a perversion of Morgoth like the orks to mock the men(probably later canon), glad that it gets to continue like Sauron after Morgoth

As someone who got into Tolkiens legendarium through adaptations and eventually scholaring the books I can stand by the readers for a good adaptation

I think my feelings regarding amazon along with that series would be best summed up as a dark pit of bottomless hate and rage.
Optimistic and i think gollim movie might surprise all of us as fun ,fast pacing and a few nuggets that will delight all of us...i have faith in PJ and Fran

If Rings of Power was my first contact with Tolkien's World, I would think it's the most boring and generic fantasy garbage ever made. Lucky for me Jackson's Movies put me on the path of discovering this amazing world.
No matter how many billions of dollars Amazon decides to chuck at it, it will suck if the show writers don't have a clue of what makes Tolkien's works so endearing and mesmerizing in the first place.

Because I still have the original movies, “extended” by the way. (The proper way to watch those films, best trilogy ever made) the original games and even the hobbit films that even though I don’t think those movies are good, they get a lot of things wrong to squeeze out another movie. Because money. And I also have the ranking bass hobbit film and return of the king. And of course all the books. I’m content with that. I don’t need new stuff. Especially if it’s at best mediocre and at worst treat Tolkien’s work with such disrespect.

What will be the next big let down in Rings of Power? Mithril is magical antidote to the death of the Elves for some reason. Sauron has the greatest luck ever to have the only elf to NOT go to Valinor, jump off her boat and find him floating beyond the horizon of Numenor in the Great Sea. Then is lucky enough to go to Numenor, get what he needed and have the Elves make him King of the south for no reason besides a pouch he wore when they met. Elrond is one of the greatest Elves in Middle Earth, and he is an errand boy for Gil-Galad. Not the great warrior/scholar he is in ALL of the books. And where is the budget for Moria? The greatest Dwarf Kingdom of all Middle Earth? Sad that hundreds of millions went into this disappointment when any fan fiction has better stories.

The makers of these new products in TV, film, and games certainly have a lot in common with Morgoth & Sauron. They're incapable themselves of creating anything that's unique, truthful, decent, or beautiful. So, in their attempts to satisfy the Melkorian degree of spite that eternally gnaws inside of their withered hearts, they set out to distort, warp, mutate, and destroy that which was created by those who were far more talented than these modern day hacks could ever be. Kind of puts this sorrowful line from Akallabeth into a new perspective for those of us who can still remember how things used to be - "and there is not now within the circles of the world any place abiding where the memory of a time without evil is preserved". The corporate woke-ists of the entertainment industry have quite literally ruined everything.

There does not need to be any other Middle Earth content unless it is approved by Peter Jackson or Yostan.

Many and perhaps most films, TV series etc have for some time focussed more on so called diversity and updating (supposedly making a story more relevant to current audiences) than on entertainment. I have a growing list of programmes and genres that I no longer watch. Rings of power was on the edge of keeping me watching.
I won’t waste my time on RoP2 until I’ve seen reviews this time.
The animated show does excite me.
I don’t care about the games.
I just hope they’re not lame

I look forward to continuing my boycott of Rings of Power. May the 2nd season fail even more than the 1st season to send a clear message that we want well intentioned movies and series that would make Tolkien proud.
Rings of Power is an expensive loss. I won't watch the show. I'll just catch the reviews because the show has the worst writing. Gil-Galad is an arrogant king, not like the elf of the Noldar. Numenor will be a let down and the rise of Gondor will be a joke. Time of the fans to take back LOTR. Write your own story. 2nd age, 3rd age, 4th age, pick an Era and make a story.
After the absolute debacle of the Hobbit trilogy and Rings of Power, I don't expect the Rohirrim story to be anything worth watching.
And if they try remaking the film trilogy I may die of a broken heart.
The Hobbit trilogy actually followed the book far more closely than the LOTR trilogy did. Especially the extended versions of The Hobbit. Yes there was some added nonsense, but the LOTR trilogy also consisted of a lot of added nonsense that took away from the original story. On top of that, The Hobbit book is light and funny for the most part, and the movies followed that tone. If you go and read The Hobbit again right now, then re-watch the extended versions of The Hobbit movies, you’ll see how much of the original story was actually followed. Then do the same for LOTR and you’ll be shocked at how much was changed to the absolute detriment of the overall story.
Rings of Power shouldn’t even be included in this discussion as it’s not an adaption in any way, it’s a desecration.
@@Vexarax Nah. I've read all of the books many times. Familiar with where the books and films differ for both the Hobbit and LOTR. I don't need to get into re-litigating the Hobbit films and their failures here in a UA-cam comments section, the arguments are already out there. All the power to anyone who enjoyed those movies, but I didn't.
But we are certainly in agreement that Rings of Power was an even greater travesty. Like I said in the original comment here, I hope the Rohirrim series is good but my expectations are very low. Once bitten twice shy as they say.
The only thing that worries me about War of the Rohirrim is an article I read that said the story revolves around Helm's daughter and views the war from her perspective. Normally this concept wouldn't bother me as there have been many great female-centered stories. After the ROP debacle however, I'm worried that this will be just one more piece of activist crapola.

I won't even touch RoP. That's a lost cause. If the show runners had at least publicly admitted their mistakes and promised to try and do better in s2 rather than just blaming fans, maybe. But that hasn't happened, showing me they've learned nothing. It's a lost cause there.
As to War of the Rohirrim, sigh. I dunno. Philipa Boyens, the head of the project, has taken some heat about this being another woke interpretation of Tolkien as the story focuses on Helm's unknown/unnamed daughter. Her quote, and I'm going on memory here, "They all died! Helm, his sons, they all died so his daughter was the only one we could tell the story from."
Um. But those of us familiar with the appendices know that's utter bull. Helm's nephew, Fréaláf Hildeson on his sister’s side, WHO IS NAMED (as opposed to the weird greek name they've given to Helm's daughter... Hera??), successfully executed an attack to regain Edoras. And it was that nephew, Fréaláf Hildeson, who killed the Dunlending leader, Wulf, and persuaded Gondor to aid him as he lead the Rohirrim to drive Dunlendings back across the River Isen. Then, Fréaláf and his men successfully blockaded Isengard into surrender. It was Fréaláf who was named king of Rohirrim.
So why not make HIM the main protagonist of the story?
And I don’t get how Boyens came up with the name “Hera”. It’s a Greek name! And Tolkien was inspired by Anglo-Saxon culture when he wrote these stories and as a linguist; he chose all of his words and names with great care to make Middle-earth feel like a real, cohesive place. Boyens should KNOW better!
At the end of the day, my hope is that the story is told through Hera (stupid name... god I hope they change that) witnessing Fréaláf’s actions. and ok, she fights by his side. That's fine. Because in today's cinema we can't have women and children hiding away while men fight against pseudo capable bad-guys.
I wasn't aware the War of the Rohirrim was going to be an anime. I'm not a fan of anime, so that is very disappointing to me.
Guyladriel and the Rings of Poop will be an abomination just like season one.
RoP was sooooo unbelievably bad. It was almost like they set out to fail trying to one up the morons who trashed the Witcher. A truly epic failure.

I never watch reviews of ROP anymore. ROP is manifestly not Tolkien, not Middle-earth, and is nothing more than another feminist attack on Tolkien fans. Any review that treats it being somehow Tolkien related gets a major blot on their reputation as far as I am concerned.
Tolkien’s birthday was a great opportunity for amazon to announce they were cancelling the rings of power and would make a better show from scratch that would be more true to Tolkien’s works. But nah. They will continue producing garbage !
Not interested in ROP s2 at all, let it burn in Hell. I hope the War of the Rohirrim is good. But the thing that I would like the most is a new good LOTR game. I would like a new BFME like game. If someone would like to make a new BFME game or at least a remake or remaster of the first two.
