    I wish monitor companies would come out with more HDMI 2.1 compatible monitors. We are nearly a year into the lifecycle of these next-gen consoles. Just give me an HDMI 2.1 monitor that does 4k 120hz with decent HDR.

      @Rockafettpappa this ASUS PG320UQ is only couple $100(usd) more and you get way better picture quality for that extra $. It’s what I ordered after watching every review possible. M32U is what I was close to purchasing till I revisited them all again and every single review said the couple $100 extra for the p320uq was worth it, and to me, if you’re already dropping around $750usd on a monitor you might as well drop tiny bit more for a significantly better screen. I’ll also add up until recently M32U had a 9.5ms refresh rate while the ASUS had 4ms, which is significant (imo) However GB recently dropped a firmware update that dropped it down to 4.5ms.

    Been playing on a 144hz monitor for like a year now. Mostly bought it for fortnite. While I think the high refresh does help a lot in competitive gaming, for regular use it’s not that big a difference. It’s definitely not a day and night feature as a lot of people make it out to be. Just purchased a 2k 140hz 27" monitor with HDMI 2.0 ports for $250 for standard desk/pc use and xbox gaming recently. Decided that 4k with hdmi 2.1 wasn't worth it for a small 27" used for desk and up close gaming. 2.1 is only needed for 4k gaming with 4k and higher resolutions at more 120hz or more. If I had to get a bigger display, or a big TV, I would definitely go for 4k with HDMI 2.1. Upgrading from 1080p 60hz, to 1440p 120hz was absolutely worth it for me at an affordable price point. Paying $500 + for a 4K 27" or lower monitor is a waste of money IMO.

  • @MrOP66

    This is not a trivial question, and definitively there is more to it than meets the eye. With PS5 you really want to have a monitor that can do 4k60 and 1080p120 with 10bit color in the panel itself. No dithering needed, and this can be met with HDMI 2.0. The problem is that there are very few reasonably priced good panels available, regardless of 2.0 or 2.1. The Asus TUF, Gigabyte M28U etc. are good 2.1 options with more reasonable price, but they use 8bit panel, which I consider a limitation especially on 1080p where dithering is not as good. The LG 950 GN (2.0) and GP (2.10 both have the 10 bit panel to meet the spec, but are more expensive. Then there are some very expensive choices on top of these. In any case, I would only go for HDMI 2.1 versions, it is far more versatile than 2.0.

    You have tempted me Tom, can you answer a question… I’m running the PS5 and Xbox Series X off a expensive 2016 Samsung UHD 4k TV, it ticks all the boxes on the Series X with the exception of 4k at 120hz, however, playing Forza Horizon 5, which yes looks great, I can still see an issue with a faint white line around the tyres when at speed, something that isn’t an issue in Forza Horizon 4 or 3. So would upgrading my tv remedy this minor issue, it’s almost as if it’s a reflection issue, and more prominent in lighter colour cars such as white. I like my 40” Samsung but after watching your reviews I’m torn between a smaller screen (Gaming Monitor) or something larger like the LG C1, I don’t know what way to go 😝. Thanks. Tommy

    I agree that a better HDR screen is more important than 4K, but you say that it’s better to get a 1080P monitor with HDR support. It’s important to note that there are very few displays that are limited to 1080p and come with Good HDR performance, or even HDR whatsoever.
    Also, the Xbox itself does not support HDR at 1080P whatsoever, same goes with 1440P, as the Xbox defaults to HDMI 1.4a pipeline when using those resolutions, HDR is only available at 4K on Xbox consoles.

    • @predacon8257
      @predacon8257 2 роки тому

      Good points there, but a good HDR tv needs to be at least 1000 nits for brightness. Also it's good to have HGIG tone mapping capable. It's a plus you don't want double tone mapping HDR. It will just create unnecessary input lag with console and TV tone mapping. Dynamic HDR is a bust for gaming unless you don't care about FPS or input lag.

    • @TheLazyGamers
      @TheLazyGamers 2 роки тому +1

      @@predacon8257 100% I totally agree. 1000 nits is minimum for a good HDR experience, you’ll also want a 10-bit panel, that’s OLED or has some kind of localized dimming as that will allow it to reach great black levels around .005-.0005 nits, as well as 95% or greater DCI-P3 coverage. If it’s hitting 1000 nits then more often than not it will usually have these specs (these are the minimum requirements for HDR as set by the UHD alliance). Having HGIG is also something that’s needed for gaming, so that as you say it’s not double tone mapping.
      That’s the thing with HDR, when it’s good, it’s a bigger deal than 4K, but very few displays actually reach the required specs. Most displays people use are really “Budget” HDR displays, which is what I was talking about in the OP, there’s a zero percent chance you’ll find these HDR features on at least a consumer 1080P monitor.

    Something I notice nobody says about with most 1440p monitors is that it'll take a 4k 60hz image and down sample it into a 1440p image. So technically most 1440p monitors will display 1440p on ps5 and is a great work around until it supports it natively later this year. And of course you can still play 120fps games at 1080p on it. The fact you can get a 1440p 120hz+ monitor for about half the price of a 4k 120hz+ monitor I really don't know why you'd spend the extra money especially with as you said most 120 games don't hit 4k but I'd bet a lot of them will be 1440p 120hz when the update comes as is the case with series x already

      I wouldn't worry, as the guy was touching on in the videos, 120fps isn't going to be the standard on this new gen of console, it's a novelty. As the new gen marches on and games get more demanding we'll probably be seeing even less games that support 120fps on console and those that do will certainly be tanking other features (HDR, resolution, ray tracing etc) to be able to push 120fps.
      60fps has been and will always be the target frame rate for this gen. 120fps will probably be pushed for next gen by which point 2.1 hdmi monitors and TVs will be considerably cheaper.

    In fact the difference between RGB 4:4:4 and YCbCr 4:2:2 is really hard to make. The main reason why buying an hdmi 2.1 screen for console gaming is to get VRR ALLM capabilities with 4k/120hz. Such games settings with Xbox and PS5 won’t be available before couple ou years. There would be probably better monitors model then. For now I will go for a CG32UQ from
    asus. 4K/60hz VA panel with hdmi 2.0 and HDR 600. That will cover my needs in term of color and contrast quality for solo games better than IPS hdmi 2.1 as it won’t bring any extra excitement for now, it will eventually be a deal breaker with the black shades going gray and IPS glow

      I’m showing the same price for cg32uq as the far superior pg32uq?? Most common games already support 4K/120

    Would you suggest any other monitor that’s good for the next gen consoles that is budget wise

    Sitting close to a monitor, it's really not worth it imho to get a 4k monitor. The price difference is pretty big between a 1440p and 4k monitors. This means you can get away with a 1440p monitor with 120+hz. Typically, between distance and size of the panel, will determine whether you'll even be able to notice the difference.
    I'd personally go with a 1440p 120+Hz monitor (pref with AMD freesymc) for a Series X. PS5, you would need to go the 4k route.

    So can I just stick with buying a normal HDMI gaming monitor and still receive the benefits of 120 hz on an xbox even if its 1080?

    Another reason that nobody mentions is that if you play indies will be a lot much more indies runin in 4k 120fps like Ori, Hades, very good games

    Idk why some say on console not all games are 120hz
    On pc it’s as much as u can push with your pc gpu etc etc
    The games aren’t locked , if they are , they’re console ports.

    Do you have any idea of a release date for this?
    And have you had the chance to try the ROG Swift PG32UQ?
