Thanks for this review ^^ funny enough I was actually looking at the G70A since it was discounted at $580, but now the M28U is gonna sell for $450 during Black Friday...I'm probably gonna pull the trigger on the M28U 👀
I mean it's true that HDR10 in games is not much to look at most of the time. Some games optimize way better for HDR. Can't wait to see real Dolby Vision in games. It's technically there, but the game is developed using Dolby Vision, it's just enabled for the game.
These monitors are now even cheaper 2 years from the video creation date. I wonder what the performance difference is between them now with updated firmware.
Worth pointing out that the M28U is now G-Sync Compatible, if not officially. I also strongly recommend avoiding curved screens if you need a monitor for productivity or play scrolling 2D games, which are nauseating compared to a flat panel.
Well, I bought the Samsung, and I don't regret it! First I checked for bleeding, clouding and dead pixels, there is none. I'm so lucky the first try I won the monitor lotery. I tryed your settings, but they where too bright for me. (I'm in a low dimmed room or dark room mostly) so I cranked the brightness down and it's perfect. In speed and hz it isnt a match compared to Omen X 27, but I have great 4k resolution and everything looks so much sharper and clearer. Only the Xbox One X looks like crap, no matter what settings I try and also only getting 4k 60hz or 1440p 120 hz but no 4k 120 hz. Also updated the monitor's firmware from 1006 to 1008.1 but it still looks like crap. So, I ordered the Series X wich is coming tomorrow. Hope that makes a difference.
O yeah you will see a difference on the Series X. Those legacy console don't quite do it justice. But nice snag and glad to hear you won the lottery on this one. I think I did too, which I am happy about. good luck and GG's.
@@BainCustom In the end I still swapped the Samsung monitor for Gigabyte M28U. My keyboard is exactly for the monitor, so I needed to replace the keyboard every time to reach the OSD button wich was after a few days doing that very annoying. And the image quality I still was not quite satisfied about. The M28U has the OSD button in the back, it's much easier. And... The M28U really blew me away. Updated firmware and can handle One X as well Series X. Also replaced all cat 6 ethernet cables in the house for cat 8 ethernet cables. This monitor really is amazing, so so sharp!! And very smooth! Still want to thank you for the review between Samsung and Gigabyte, they are both amazing, so you just take what suits you the best.
I was just looking for the cheapest reputable brand 4k monitor I saw Gigabyte M28U so I bought it for $444 and I’m pleased with it ofc if I spent $600 or more it’ll look better but for $444 I’d definitely recommend 10/10
amazing video , you helped me alot, i bought 32 neo g7 and i thought its not worth 1200$ and 32 felt too big and make me feel dizzy while playing so i'm returning it and getting one of these for 600$ but i'm afraid ppl are saying 4K is not working in 28 inch
I get the argument for 4K not being worth it at 28 in. But, I do see the difference personally. The Pixel per inch density is nice and you can always downscale for extra frames if you want.
Thanks for your great video, what I wanted to ask you is because it was more of a test for the pc and unfortunately I can't decide between the 2, which one would you recommend for the Ps5 online shooter games?
Honestly, I would choose whichever is the better deal at the time. They are both great monitors for the PS5. Samsung tends to pop a bit more with color and Gigabyte has a little better calibration menus overall. But they both don't disappoint. Thanks for the questions btw!
@@BainCustom So after a bit more research I found that: „They both have HDMI 2.1 inputs, but the Samsung has 40 Gbps bandwidth while the Gigabyte is limited to 24 Gbps, so it needs Display Stream Compression for certain signals. Isn‘t that a problem if I want to play 4k on 120hz in Warzone?
I agree that real-world experience is a more useful test than synthetic benchmarks, but why test HDR? HDR400 is fake HDR (see Hardware Unboxed reviews as to why), I leave it off on my M28U, the image is just flat and whites are washed out with HDR on. Also would be good to have some transparency as to whether the manufacturers are supplying you with the products and providing any financial incentives.
I bought both of these myself. Normally I will say if they have (very few at this point), or UA-cam will pop up with a notice that it includes paid advertisement/sponsorship. Yeah HDR400 is not reliable, especially compared to a TV. But I get asked about it all the time, best HDR settings and so on. It's actually more for the console users than anything. All next gen consoles will automatically output HDR in game and in movies. So I throw in a test to compare and see if it's any good. Some PC users are interested too. Thanks for the input btw.
Greetings! Yeah that is a tough call for the PS5. Generally speaking I would use the gigabyte for console more often, but they both do well. The G70A will have backlight bleed, whereas I never really saw that on the M28U.
It is indeed. And it works. I just didn't think or notice that it was that great. The extra certification from the G70A just gave the added performance over the m28u. But again, both are solid choices.
How about that update nr7 for m28/32u which makes the screen run almost at 500 nits. What you say to that? Does that makes the gigabyte a better option?
Why are you showing like an ultra wide video that looks almost like a fisheye lens as the video for the M28U and then a normal video for the G7? I don’t get it. Why wouldn’t it be an apple to apples comparison?
You just came on to troll today? I appreciate the input, they were recorded at 2 different times during an upgrade of camera gear. Gotta use what I have, everybody starts somewhere.
@@BainCustom I wasn’t trolling.. I genuinely wanted to know why they looked so different. It’s not that crazy of an observation, one looked like a fisheye lens and one looked normal, the lines of the test were bulged out and super distorted looking and the other looked normal. Which is why I asked. Maybe I missed you explaining it during the video, and if so my bad. I wasn’t criticizing your equipment or what you have to work with, I genuinely wanted to know why they looked so different.
Have you compared both with PS5? im looking forward to buy the G70, i also watched your other review from this monitor but i want to see if without G-Sync its still winning to the M28U. Maybe with de VRR on... Thanks!
I have used both monitors with the ps5. They both score extremely well, if it is specifically just for console then buying the one that is a lower cost is a better value in my opinion. I will say I haven't tested out the vrr on console yet. Although I'm sure it would help, I'm not sure how much.
@@BainCustom Thanks man! i finally bought it ans just installed it. Do you have any tutorial for firmware update? Im a bit confused with the setup of de G7, its already in my hands
Quick question, do both monitors have built in speakers/microphones? or do you need to attach headphones/external speakers? Also if they do, how is the sound quality?
I believe both do have speakers, but they for sure have a 3.5mm headphone jack. I honestly never use the monitor speaker and always hookup a small powered speaker to the monitor.
I kind of assumed it would be similar to the M28U vs the G70A. If price is better on the MSI or Gigabyte, there is a good argument to buy it. I have not personally tested it, but I am sure it would hold up.
Absolutely you can. You just have to adjust your in game settings to 1080p. That way you don't have to change the display resolution back and forth every time you switch.
Scored a G70A this week for $480 after taxes. I work in the public sector in my state, so I was able to get the monitor at a pretty solid discount, plus Microsoft Edge found a coupon code that took an extra $50 off. So before taxes it was $453!
@@yaboyshelz I just went to the Samsung website and used my state gov email to sign up for an account. State employees get a percentage discount up front.

Did you test the Omen 27U 4K already yet? I own the Omen X 27, and bought the Omen 27U 4K, but there are almost no reviews on it due to input lag or respons times. I can't really choose between Omen 27U, Gigabyte M28U, or Samsung Odyssey G7 AG70
@@BainCustom thanks. I heared from a lot of people to stay away from Gigabyte so I choose for Samsung. I tryed the Omen 27U 4K but sending it back, mouse keyboard as well controller are extremely heavy so lots of input lag, even when I cranked the sensitivity up. Ordered now the Samsung g70. But I don't think there is a monitor in this price range who can beat my Omen X 27 (1440p) except for 4k resolution, but input lag, response lag etc Omen X 27 is a beast. Despite it's a TN panel it sometimes looks like ips. Watching angles I don't care about, usually I sit in front of the monitor, not at the sides. I game and watch movies often in a dark room I really hope Samsung has no glow or backlight bleed, wich seems to be "normal" these days for ips... Well, I can't accept that I really hate it. We'll see, if Samsung is not a improvement compared to Omen X 27 it's going straight back.
@@BainCustom oh and I wanted to say I really enjoy your video's, you seem like a very chill person I love your nonchalant relaxed attitude and you speak in a way that's really a joy to listen to.
I just bought and returned 3 G70A screens (intended for a triple monitor sim racing rig). The reason being that only 2 monitors work but a 3rd one cannot work for some ID issue that has yet to be sorted out via firmware. Too bad as they were nice screens but the M28U doesn't have that problem so any sim racers might want to steer clear of the Samsung.
I 100% appreciate you saying that. That was a question I had based on some of the issues surrounding their input issues. I also wanted to know if the updated firmware on new units fixed that problem. Now we have our answer.
@@BainCustom I even did the 1008.1 firmware update (from Korean site) and no change. Mine came pre-loaded with 1007.1, yet the US site still lists 1004 as the latest! lol
Not hands on but here is a short that shows the differences from G70B to G70A - ua-cam.com/users/shortsPlitFW-hCTA?feature=share I also did a top 3 4K monitors mentioning the GP950 - ua-cam.com/video/NlKJ8aLm7YA/v-deo.html
I had this monitor a few months ago but I had to return it due to the fact that it had some defects like vertical lines randomly appearing on screen. Image quality tho, it was fantastic. Idk, seeing your review kinda makes me want to take another shot at it. It’s either this or the Alienware qd oled and I can’t make up my mind lol
I mean...if I have to choose it is for sure QD OLED. That being said, I didn't realize it would be as "cheap" as it is. That Alienware is as expensive as most premium ultrawide monitors these days. I will have to grab one to test!
@@BainCustom Yea I was thinking that too but I have an lg c1 in the living room and 4k just looks so crisp. Ideally I'd like another c1 to use as a monitor but I just don't have the room for that. But yea I might just pull the trigger on the Alienware since oled is so amazing. Hopefully well get to see a review it on the channel!
Deciding between hp x27q, Omen 27i, and the m28u for my Xbox series x. Any suggestion? Money isn’t a huge decision maker. Just want to know if the m28u is worth it over a standard 1440p monitor.
I do like a solid 1440p monitor with great black level performance and high color accuracy. Of course the basics for gaming as well. But 4K is setting new standards of gaming and will be the go-to upgrade in the coming years. I think 4K outperforms 1440p on console, because you can still do 1440p and 1080p if you want and 4K has more support than 1440p currently.
@@BainCustom I’m only using the Xbox series x. Always played console but been using the same 1080 Vizio tv for the last 10 years. Since my comment I’ve pushed it down and am looking for a budget 1440p gaming monitor for console. Any recommendations would be appreciated for the u.s.a. Mostly play fps games and fifa if that helps thanks for the reply!
huh thats funny, the g70a has the exact same issue as my m32u where the right side is more warm in the gray uniformity. I wonder if the machines people use to place the screen re applying to much pressure to one side
Interesting theory. I might be able to get behind that. It could be a part of the manufacturing process and how it is handled. If I ever get the chance to tour one of these plants, I will bring that up.

I don't know why so many problems with the well used hdr 400 is more than enough in fact the hdr in the games is something secondary.
What do you mean by "not officially"? Is G-Sync now working on it?
@@niklaslehner996 Yes, just not as a listed "G-Sync Compatible" monitor. RTings updated their review to reflect this change.
@@siphillis Thank you for the response!
It did work in my testing as well.
Still want to thank you for the review between Samsung and Gigabyte, they are both amazing, so you just take what suits you the best.
which one is better for ps5 4k/1440 @ 120hz?
I was just looking for the cheapest reputable brand 4k monitor I saw Gigabyte M28U so I bought it for $444 and I’m pleased with it ofc if I spent $600 or more it’ll look better but for $444 I’d definitely recommend 10/10
Would you recommend the gigabyte one for ps5 and Xbox seriesX
Thanks for ur Video👍 ordert the g7 today and i'll hope my 6900xt will get enough smooth Frames in warzone 🙈
O yeah the 6900xt will run that monitor well. Thanks for the input!
Great job thank you
What headphones do you use ?
This guy right of the bat earned my Sub .
Okay, that was for pc. What about for the Ps5? is the gigabyte more recommended?
amazing video , you helped me alot, i bought 32 neo g7 and i thought its not worth 1200$ and 32 felt too big and make me feel dizzy while playing so i'm returning it and getting one of these for 600$
but i'm afraid ppl are saying 4K is not working in 28 inch
I get the argument for 4K not being worth it at 28 in. But, I do see the difference personally. The Pixel per inch density is nice and you can always downscale for extra frames if you want.
@@BainCustom yeah but if you downscale lets say to 1440p it will look worst than native 1440p right?
Great video! Quick question, is the Samsung g70a mountable?
It is indeed. Comes with an extra bracket for mounting.
More monitors with full array local dimming are coming out soon. I'll wait for that.
Thanks for your great video, what I wanted to ask you is because it was more of a test for the pc and unfortunately I can't decide between the 2, which one would you recommend for the Ps5 online shooter games?
Same question here. I just can‘t decide which I should pick for my ps5 … Playing Apex,COD,Fortnite but also Story Games
And who have the lower inputlag do you know this .
@@Bingos831 Samsung‘s input lag is lower but on the newest firmware the gigabyte has a low input lag aswell
Which one is better for ps5? And is the brightness from the Samsung monitor really that bad in dark video games scenes? greetings from germany!!
Greetings! Yeah that is a tough call for the PS5. Generally speaking I would use the gigabyte for console more often, but they both do well. The G70A will have backlight bleed, whereas I never really saw that on the M28U.
How much could it possibly cost on Black Friday 2023?
g70a looks better for me cleaner looks and colors from a quick scan
That Gsync pays off in the end.
M28u is gsync compatible.
It is indeed. And it works. I just didn't think or notice that it was that great. The extra certification from the G70A just gave the added performance over the m28u. But again, both are solid choices.
I’ve found Samsung have terrible colour calibration out the box, I’d never by Samsung myself based on this.
I was going to buy the m28u but the g70A was around 100 euro cheaper where i live
Solid choice then! Solid deal.
great vid
Thanks a lot!
Another note, Tweakers says the inputlag for Samsung is 21,4 ms and Gigabyte 12,2 ms. How come the Samsung feels more smoother?
That is not right. The Samsung is much lower in my testing and through rtings. The gigabyte is even lower than that now after a few firmware updates.
in germany only the „Samsung Odyssey Gaming Monitor G7A LS28AG702NU“ is available. Is there any differences to the monitor version you presented?
It should be mostly the same with a different country model number. It should be the same panel and full array lighting.
How about that update nr7 for m28/32u which makes the screen run almost at 500 nits. What you say to that? Does that makes the gigabyte a better option?
i want minimal, i don't want that over the top design that will bite me in the ass down the line
Gigabyte offers that for sure. Less fluff in the design for sure.
M28u latest firmware is F10 now.
Dang! They are moving quickly with those updates!
@@BainCustom they have it at $500 now
Why are you showing like an ultra wide video that looks almost like a fisheye lens as the video for the M28U and then a normal video for the G7?
You played with keyboard and mouse. I want to see how they hold up playing with counsel with remote.

@@pabloconchaspoerer6432 any update about that firmware installation plz ?
Quick question, do both monitors have built in speakers/microphones? or do you need to attach headphones/external speakers? Also if they do, how is the sound quality?
I believe both do have speakers, but they for sure have a 3.5mm headphone jack. I honestly never use the monitor speaker and always hookup a small powered speaker to the monitor.
Hey TechCessory, any thought on MSI MAG281URF vs G70A? Price point is kinda similar
I kind of assumed it would be similar to the M28U vs the G70A. If price is better on the MSI or Gigabyte, there is a good argument to buy it. I have not personally tested it, but I am sure it would hold up.
Can I play games with 1080p on 144hz and then watch movies at 4k?
....This is what I am wanting a new monitor to do. Thanks.
Absolutely you can. You just have to adjust your in game settings to 1080p. That way you don't have to change the display resolution back and forth every time you switch.
@@BainCustom Thanks for the reply. Will 1080p on 4k look worse or better than 1080p on a 1080p monitor?
hello i do video editing and ofc also gaming and i am wondering which of the 2 whould be better for me (before you ask my GPU is the 4070 Ti Super)
what about Asus vg28u vs Samsung?
That will need to be added to the list. I have been asked a lot about the Asus but haven't had the chance to grab one yet. Thanks for the input btw.
Scored a G70A this week for $480 after taxes. I work in the public sector in my state, so I was able to get the monitor at a pretty solid discount, plus Microsoft Edge found a coupon code that took an extra $50 off. So before taxes it was $453!

Samsung was my personal favorite all around. But the Gigabyte really did not let me down ever. IDK about the HP.
Mine came pre-loaded with 1007.1, yet the US site still lists 1004 as the latest! lol
What settings do you recommend for the lowest input lag and smoothest experience for ps5 on the G70A
What system are you using, what game are you playing and what do you use k&M or Controller?
I have the g7 odyssey for my PS5 anyway I can adjust the black level mines grayed out and can't remove power save plus

Does SDR look better in M28u than the HDR ? I have m28u and HDR looks worse than SDR. wanna confirm.
Answered the second comment.
Ideally I'd like another c1 to use as a monitor but I just don't have the room for that. what dp cable were you using on that monitor you sent back fella?
a c1 does everything better than alienware
Deciding between hp x27q, Omen 27i, and the m28u for my Xbox series x. Any suggestion? Money isn’t a huge decision maker. Just want to know if the m28u is worth it over a standard 1440p monitor.
I Mostly play fps and sports games like cod and fifa
I do like a solid 1440p monitor with great black level performance and high color accuracy. Of course the basics for gaming as well. But 4K is setting new standards of gaming and will be the go-to upgrade in the coming years. I think 4K outperforms 1440p on console, because you can still do 1440p and 1080p if you want and 4K has more support than 1440p currently.
@@BainCustom I’m only using the Xbox series x. Always played console but been using the same 1080 Vizio tv for the last 10 years. What do you think, can my Nvidia RTX 3070 easy run this G70A monitor?
Probably. Depends on the game and quality settings. You might still want something that is 1440p, but technically it could.
Yeah 3070 can run 4k. 3070 is basically a 2080 ti.

Which monitor to choose samsung odyssey g7 28 ls28 or hp omen 27u 4k? the price is quite close. I'm looking for a universal monitor for my pc and ps5.
Samsung all the way. that is my two cents anyways.
huh thats funny, the g70a has the exact same issue as my m32u where the right side is more warm in the gray uniformity. I wonder if the machines people use to place the screen re applying to much pressure to one side
same with rtings m32u and hardware unboxed m28u... I think I might be on to something
Interesting theory. I might be able to get behind that. It could be a part of the manufacturing process and how it is handled. If I ever get the chance to tour one of these plants, I will bring that up.
Does the SAMSUNG 28" Odyssey G70A have 2.1 hdmi?
For sure! That is the big draw for it.
On console, low input lag mode is blacked out when I have the freesync on. Can you not have both playing Xbox?
You have to set the low input mode while FreeSync is off and then set FreeSync, the setting will lock in place once you do that.
