So many of the enemies like the Trandoshans and Kell Dragons made such a lasting impression that it's easy to forget they appeared in only two or three levels, if that. The Dark Forces/Jedi Knight series is one that I'll cherish always. You nailed it in describing what makes this game great - the adventure, the immersion and the new FPS features all wrapped up into a concise campaign that's easy to get into. LucasArts did some amazing work. Fantastic video all the same man, and thank you lots for the shoutout! As always, I'm excited for whatever comes next!!
Please for the love of all what is good. Keep this serie going. Enemies and objects are lest talked thing in video games. And they deserve our respect. Without them games aren't games.
God, these bestiary videos fuck *SO HARD*. I first clicked on them thinking 'understanding' would be a more technical explanation of enemy programming (i'm a software engineer; it's a brain disease). but honestly this reminds me of reading instruction manual bestiaries as a kid. i would love more of these. i mean you gotta do doom/build engine games alone, just to round out the collections you've started, right? ; P i was looking around for a Duke Nukem 3D video when i first found your channel, but looks like not yet, eh? Big cheers, my friend; you're very talented
Thanks so much! 🤘 looking into my filthy little crystal ball, I foresee Duke Nukem in your very near future…! Yeah, I tried to do some pseudo technical vids before and, ugh, I ain’t got the brain for it. But discussing the finer points of space porridge? I’m there!
One thing missing in these that I liked in your Hexen video - a look at enemy, with rotating sprite so I can look at amazing sprite work, unbothered by fast passed gameplay
Really digging these enemy breakdown videos. It's kinda like the video equivalent of reading the old game manuals on the way home and the enemy descriptions inside.
"You will never leave! Nar Shaddaa will be your grave!" Star Wars and Doom. What more could you ask for? I loved this game as a kid. In fact, the entire Dark Forces/Jedi Knight series is fantastic and definitely worth playing. This game really was revilutionary. It had mision objectives, cutscenes, in-game dialogue and an overarching story. You really felt like a lone rebel agent going up against the empire. Not to mention the sprite work and atmoshpere of the levels. My favorites were always Anoat City, Gromas, Anteevy, Jabba's ship and Nar Shaddaa. Im also partial to the aliens in this game, especially the Gran, Trandoshians, Dianogas and Kell Dragons (Who I think were originally supposed to be Krayt Dragons). The 90's truly was a great time for Star Wars games.
*sigh* Ahhh, Dark Forces. Lord I ain't played this in a LONG time. And knowing there's that Force Launcher and stuff nowdays? Well, I'm going to have to re-install it and enjoy it all over again! XD Thanks for bringing back childhood memories for me mate. Looks like you got some good videos full of memories for me to experience again, so take my sub good sir!
@@EduardoAndFriends All good my dude. I actually want to start doing videos like this other than uploading my Twitch VoDs. Can I ask what editing software you use?
Less than 5 minutes in, and I've already learnt two things about this game I'm very very faintly familiar with. I had the demo, my cousins had the full version. Massive kudos. (Sits back with a slushy to watch rest)
I think the reason why Moc went down easily as a Phase Three is cause he was too full of his ego by deciding to take on Kyle Katarn himself by piloting the Dark Trooper mech and didn't have a lot of combat experience like what Katarn had. And I honestly didn't think the Phase Two Troopers were droids much like the sword wielding endoskeletons from Phase One and just assumed that Phase Two was power armor worn by clones bioengineered specifically to be used in the Dark Trooper program. Still, it's a shame that Moc went down way too easily given that he started the project that this game's whole premise is about.
@@EduardoAndFriends he was foolish. And you're not the one who preferred the shadiness and gunslinging of the Star Wars galaxy over the lightsaber combat and force magic that it's known for.
For the Phase 1 Dark Troopers, I find the best way to deal with them is just fire blaster rifle (or other fast firing gun) while crouched. When crouched, the reflected projectiles won't hit you.
even though I have not really played much old school games, but I did watch LBF's LP of this game and I can easily say THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST FPS GAMES OF ALL TIME, and the fact that we're playing as the BADA** Kyle Katarn himself is just insane 🔥🔥🔥 Love your vids man keep up the good work and remember you always have our support :)
Digging these videos, as the Hexen one got recommended to me to show me your channel. As a fan of boomer shooters it’s awesome to see the enemies broken down like this. Keep up the good work!
Though Dark Forces didn't become a flight sim, Lucasarts did release two amazing flight sims set in the SW universe - X-Wing and TIE Fighter. The latter is particularly interesting because you play as an Imperial pilot and get to experience the world as one of the "bad guys."
I'm really loving your enemies guides. I must try Dark Forces and watch LBF's playthrough. For me, there is no Star Wars media released after Rogue One.
Thanks Dr P! Yeah I hope you enjoy the game and LBF’s fun vids. :) I’m with you on the movies, probably because I liked Rogue One so much. Even though Kyle Katarn did the same job in ten minutes which took the Rogue One crew a whole movie to accomplish lololol
I won't ruin it for others, but there is some nice subtle references and humour here. Some videos are more like wiki articles where they just read off stats or they will do a sappy retrospective about why they like a game. I've seen both those styles make some great videos , but there is a certain ratio of mechanics or gameplay discussion combined with more funny review/opinions which I find very entertaining but also educational for gamers.
Fun fact: this is not LucasArts first ever "first person shooter". They actually beat id to the punch with The Eidolon in 1985 for 8-bit micros using their fractal engine. You fought baddies in a cave while collecting diamonds.
I've never completely understood the extent to which the 'JEDI' engine uses components of the Doom engine (wink wink), but it has always just 'felt' like it does. Something about the spongeiness of the movement. It reminds me a lot of Hexen's version of the engine.
@@EduardoAndFriendsactually i am not so sure if that is true or not. There was also a rumor that Dark Force's develop was started after looking at Star Wars Doom mod. But the reality is that the game's development started in Sept 1993 (3 months before Doom released).
Wow, all that effort they put in. I still refuse to engage with these games without a lightsaber in hand, I have never had any desire to simply run around star wars with guns. I dont even play those gun levels in Outcast, I either skip them or use cheats to have the proper weapon.
A maximum of 9 lives? I never realised that the ultimate action hero from the Galaxy Far Far Away is basically a cat person.
He’s a cat person, absolutely. 😄
@@EduardoAndFriends fights like a dog, sly like a cat. Like op said, he is great action hero 😆
I believe The Force Engine also offers quicksaves as an option.
@grahamwilson4053 yes it does which comes in handy when capturing footage 😅

Easy to do with a Doom engine game. Not necessarily possible with other engines.
You're everywhere.
