Hallelujah! I’m so thankful that you put this on UA-cam, sir. The Toyota dealer told me it would be 1200 dollars to get a roof rack installed. They are 120 dollars on Amazon and I didn’t know I could do it on my own like this, I had no idea that this ports already had a hole in them for drilling.

Thanks for the video! I had some additional parts in my kit. One piece locks the bolt from being able to loosen. The other piece keeps the end caps from flying away if they get blown off driving down the road. 30 min install great video.

Rattling and wind noise may occur, really pay attention to torque specs - our dealer installed roof bars keep coming loose and they are not doing anything to help.

Great video. It took me 22 minutes. Just to note, the top of the base on each side of the crossbar are marked with an arrow that points to the front. The sticker on my crossbar that says "This side faces front" was incorrectly placed on the wrong side! I caught this mistake because I saw the arrow on the top of the base pointing backwards. I would have easily completed the install in under 20 minutes if I did not have to remove and reposition the errantly-marked crossbar.

What kind of tool did you say to remove the covers?
Mine didn't come with that middle metal spacer (the long one that the screw goes into). I contacted the supplier and they claimed I didn't need it. But when I installed these I saw the silver plastic part of my roof go down. It wasn't flush anymore with the other silver piece. Don't know if that is normal.

The OEM Toyota bars come with a bit more hardware and complexity. The fit at those gaskets is also spot on. Nearly triple the price, but I guess you get what you pay for.

I also notice small gaps against the chrome rails, and wondered if anyone has had trouble w/ leakage? Am considered putting some silicone around the bases just to be sure. Thoughts?

I bought a cheaper model of these and returned them because the gaskets didn't fit and then found out they were only for the lower model Highlander (both sets of hardware were included though). Directions did not use gaskets for my model, but that wasn't good b/c rain would flow down in there. The bars were fine, just couldn't figure out why no gaskets? So returned them. I hope these cross bars are better.
Is the front bar higher than the back?
Just installed the kit with ease following your directions. I did find it hard to tighten up the set screws as its hard to see up into the rail. I actually liked the tool included to tighten the bolts even though I had a rachet/socket. The Allen wrench ok. Thanks

My wife dies not have the limited edition so she has what looks like rubber gaskets on the roof rail. Did you have this or did you have the one in this video? I will be installing it myself. The width adjustment on the OEM crossbar I purchased were T- 25 bolts. No T-25 wrench was included in the kit
On my roof rack the rail was held to the mounting bracket with Torx Bolts. Probably a t6 maybe t8. Please make sure before you start using a allen wrench. It's easy to round out a Torx bolt with an Allen Wrench.

No anchor, just wrap the rope or tie down around it.
does anyone know what the static weight capacity for the toyota highlander limited is?
the dynamic load is 165lb on these but i am wondering if one could install a roof tent on the highlander limited and sleep in it with two people?

The double recess mounting points are very close together. No good for longer items or stability. Can bars be mounted to the single recess mounting points?
I have this same question. Roofnest rooftop tents said 30 inches is too close for third tents.

I have a question. Can the length of the cross bars be adjusted? The space between the front and back is small. There is a small cap further back on the roof? Is that for a different length in the cross bar? There isn't much room to tie anything to the top with these cross bars so close.
They are a set distance. the small caps front & rear conceal the roof rail bolts.

This rail kit is the Best because you can refer to this video when you do the installation.
Where do you order the kit?
The only problem with the Highlander mounting points is they're fixed and the cross bars end up too close together to carry anything useful. This isn't a problem on vehicles that have raised roof rails. Unfortunately Highlander comes with flush rails. Something to keep in mind when buying cross bars for this vehicle.
I took mine off they look like an after thought and I'm getting 4 more mpg

Mine were installed and came with my 2018 XLE - I'm having repeated wind noise issues and my dealer has a very low customer satisfaction quotient to repair the issue.
Ordered but the link sent me a differrent bar that has a j-hook assembly. Totally wrong assembly. Oh well. Will send back. Bummer.

Per Toyota, max weight is 165lbs.
Directions say 150, but the sticker on the bars say 165. I'll er on the side of caution and just go 150.

So you can put a roof carrier on top which is what the owner of this vehicle did. You can also put canoe or ski rack on top.

May have to loosen the set screws under the rails to adjust their length.
