As
I've been looking at rav 4s can you do a video about them?
I like for you to make a video of the honda pilot with the ZF 9 speed transmission
Don't listen to this old guy....he has no idea.....
P
Knowing what years to avoid is such valuable info. People assume you can't go wrong with any year because the brand has a good reputation.
I just learned this.
Thank you dude
Very very true. Goes with pretty much all makes as they all have had their engineering fails, just some brands more than others.
So what model years should you avoid for the Highlander?
I’ve got a 2002 v6 Highlander with 207,000 miles. Still runs great and I love it
Parents just got rid of their 2002 Highlander Limited. Best vehicle we ever owned. Only traded it in as they had 2 cars and didn't need it anymore. 200k miles and still ran and drove like new. Color me impressed.
Still driving my 2002 Highlander 4-cyl. 240,000 miles and hardly any work done on it. Best car I've ever owned!
200k mi on a Honda is easy. 200k mi on a Toyota is only halfway through it's life.
After listing to my bud Scott for awhile now and I'm pretty sure he couldn't run for POTUS. Yup, born in Japan.
Let's see your birth cert Scott! I think he hasn't told us he's on Toyota's Board of Directors!
2007 honda pilot 250000 and still going..
Still driving my 2004 limited highlander with 165000 miles on it, also still runs like new, plus the jbl sound system still sounds good as ever too. I will probably own it for another 15 years!
I bought my 13 highlander when my first was an infant. Hes been in all his friends parents cars. From X3, Traverse, to Atlas which broke down. He said never get rid of Lander, it rides so much better and hasnt changed in all these years. Only changed the batt, tires, and fluids.
How many miles on it though?
Had a first generation highlander. Great driving experience. No blind spots, easy to drive. Friends had a first generation pilot with leather. Those seats were amazing. Most comfortable I’ve ever felt in a car. I’d buy one just for the seats. Don’t know how much that have changed since then.
I have a 2008 Highlander which was used for the most part to due Uber, 220k miles later still runs like new. Have a different job and blessed to make more money but i refused to get a new car until my Highlander dies. Only problem is now my commute is less than 10 minutes from my house and don’t think my Highlander will ever die.
I recently bought a 2018 Pilot Touring (certified). I tried both Highlander and Pilot before i made my decision. Initially i wanted to purchase Highlander but it has most uncomfortable seats (specifically the third row seats are horrible) on the other hand, Pilot is very comfortable, lots of room, and easily fits 8 adults without any problems. If you go for long drive frequently, and take your family and friends with you then i definitely recommend Honda Pilot over Highlander.
I have a 2011 Honda pilot with 283k miles , no Major issues, just a relay switch and air mix actuator for the AC. Other than that i just kept up the maintenance
As 2011 Honda pilot owner, i can say that Honda pilot 2018 looks like a aerodynamic crap.
Yes I love Honda’s they are the best trucks I have ever owned
I own a 2012 Honda pilot and it is very reliable and I get 26 miles to the gallon highway. 👍🏼
Yeah we have a 2012 too, great car!
Cool cool 👍🏼
We have a 2013 Pilot EX-L and love it, too. However, we're not seeing anywhere NEAR that 26 MPG highway. Best I've seen is about 22 on trips to Disney. We average 17-18 blended (City/Highway).
Same here, love my pilot
Just bought a 2021 Pilot, 13,700 miles! I liked the handling of the Highlander more than than the Pilot, but the pilot was more comfortable of a ride. Highlander handles a smidge better. Test drove both the same day, one after the other.
That's funny, I just went through the same exact experience. Had every intention of buying a 2021 Toyota Highlander but changed my mind after driving a 2021 Honda Pilot Touring. The ride was noticeably more comfortable in the Pilot in my opinion. Very smooth ride in the Pilot.
Scotty I have an 06 Pilot I purchased new and have never had to do anything other than my regular oil & filter changes, brakes, batteries which I do the maintenance and also of course tires. I saved myself $1000.00 and changed the water pump and timing belt, parts $202.00. Dealership wanted $1200.00. Still has ice cold A/C. It has 126,000 miles, not that many for an 06.
I used to have 2006 pilot they good vehicle now I have 2017 pilot
Have you adjusted the valves yet? Very critical.
These videos are nothing short of excellent!
I absolutely love my 2017 Highlander Hybrid. It's very quick accelerating from a stop and in passing at highway speeds. The seats could be a little more comfortable, and access to the 3rd row is still far more difficult than that of my 2015 Honda Pilot. The 2015 Pilot is also a great car. It is much roomier and quiet than my Highlander, and it gets around in the snow better than any car I've ever driven. All told, the Pilot is a more comfortable vehicle, but the Highlander feels more agile and gets almost twice as many MPG. I also handed down my 2010 Highlander Hybrid to my daughter. The 2010 still looks new and drives great at around 150K miles. Bottom line, we've owned multiple model years of both vehicles, and they were all great cars.
Is the Highlander ok for a short 5 foot tall driver?
Yes but I would go for the Camry crossover suv for 5 feet tall better view.
@@drivenhome3257 the seats have a huge range of adjustment. My hobbit-sized daughter has no trouble driving the 2010 Highlander, and the 2017 has the same range of adjustment.
@@drivenhome3257 you do mean a 5 foot short driver right??
I'm barely 5'1 in length and I love my highlander just fine, with no problem reaching the gas/brake pedals. If I want to feel tall, I throw in a seat cushion then I'm good to go. Lol
I have a 2015 highlander with 85,000 miles in NYC. Volume and tuning knobs broke when wiping them during my first month of ownership. Last year the plastic around the car seat cracked and the edges of the front seats along the side of the door flattened out (lost their cushiness). Bracket fell off exhaust and it rattles. A few weeks ago the passengers side window would go up slightly when I tried to close it, and then back down. I had to do it at least 10 times to get it to go up. It has been okay since then. No rebooting or blacking out of display console and no other problems. Car drives like it did when I first got it. Reliable, fast with 6 cyl engine, and comfortable. Would buy again. I had a Honda CRV prior to this for 9 years. Nothing ever broke or went bad but I like my highlander a lot more anyway for comfort and performance and reliability.
Where the Highlander gang at
At your moms house
I was tempted to get a highlander but not anymore nor pilots
2014 limited baby 😉
Got mine in 2008. Still running like a top with 170k
Highlanders suck
2017 Pilot here. Only issue I had and found many others were the fuel injectors. Was covered under warranty and other than routine maintenance, I have had no issues. Coming up on 90k miles and it still rides like a dream. I don't forsee the wife and I getting rid of it until the wheels fall off.
You’re due for a timing belt change soon!
@@allanriley4070 probably has a chain by that point belt was upto a certain year for many brands
@@robmalcolm8042 J series all have belts as far as I know. I think all the 3.2's and 3.5's. I think I heard some newer Pilots were using the K series. I've never seen one. All J series, along with the Ridgeline, MDX, Accord, Odyssey and more. There are problems but the J series enthusiasts have it all ironed out. The thing people seem to complain about the most is VCM. Just get an engine that doesn't have VCM. Problem solved.
Do you have the 6 speed transmission or the 9 speed transmission
@LORD HYBRID VIDEOS I absolutely agree. Initially was really wanting Touring or Elite but had heard the same thing about the transmission. Definitely glad I have the EXL. The AWD isn't bad either when I've needed it (which hasn't been often admittedly). 98k miles and going strong!
I bought a new 2012 Highlander Limited and loved it. In 2020 I gave it to my son and bought a new 2020 Highlander Limited. So far it is great. The 2020 is kind of stiffer than my 2012. It is loaded with technology.
Oh, good..more things to break...lol they make cars and trucks cheaper, and distract you with technology so you don't notice the truck isn't made as well as older ones..they all use cheaper materials..and the electronics all break over time
My dad bought a 2007 highlander when I was 7. It’s had no problems and now I’m 19 and I drive it. Just hit 200,000km
On my second highlander 2015,2021 Love them both !
@@golferpro1241 how’s the seating space in the third row? Can you put rear facing child seats in the third row?
Did you had any major issues with the 2015 ?
@@fernandoespinoza6958 No none at all great vehicle
I have a 2003 Highalnder it has 185,000 miles...have not had any issues..thank god ! Just bought a 2023 XLE Highlander and love it ! Thanks for all your great videos !
Got an 03 Highlander V6, the big issues on these are the knock sensors. Some people have problems, some don’t. Otherwise just wear items and routine maintenance. 147k miles now.
I just purchased a 2010 Highlander base model to replace my 2003 4runner that was totalled in a wreck...not my fault. Great vehicle! Very pleased with Toyota products.👍
You were texting, eating, and watching porn when you wrecked werent you?😄😂🙃
we bought a new 2005 Pilot and loved it so much that in 2008 we bought a used 2003. Big difference in the 2! The 2003 did develop transmission problems after we had it for about 5 years. Still drove it until we traded it in back in 2019. We still have the 2005, and have just done the normal maintenance. It has 158,000 miles and it's still going strong. In October we took it on a 3,500 mile trip and it performed perfectly. The only problem we are having is the CD changer is now acting up and need to be replaced. I would rather drive this in the snow than my 4 wheel drive truck. It's a great snowmobile!
Totally agree about handling in snow. My 05 Pilot has gotten me through some ridiculous snow storms in Rochester, NY and it just pushes through flawlessly with the power/torque of the motor and the 4WD system Honda has put in it.
All these new cars are everything older luxury cars were, just without the really high quality leather, wood grains, and expensive suspension systems. They already ride fantastic, are quiet, have plenty of power, and most of the time the chairs are good. Hell, even my new VW Golf has less road noise than some Mercedes I've driven.
Very good point! I hate the plastic interiors on so many newer cars & trucks!
Loving your videos ty
I'm driving a 2006 pilot now over 200,000 miles and it's still smooth incredible vehicle
Highlander is way quieter than the pilot. Rides better and handles bumps in the road better, like a high end luxury car. You feel safer driving a highlander. Recently test drove both and bought the highlander immediately.
2017 AWD HL V6 LE: All required service. No issues. Runs good. Car dash indicates over all mileage 26.4 mpg (city and hw). Car is quiet, comfortable, handles well, plenty of acceleration when needed, uses regular gas. For me, the seats are comfortable. Most of the time the 3rd row is folded down, we use the cargo space. I have replaced the halogen headlights with LED's (Sealight; big positive difference). Very pleased with the car. Total miles so far a little over 35k. Our other car is an 07 Saturn Vue with 240k+ miles gets 26-28mpg. No issues on that either (except the a/c compressor died at 200k miles (to be expected), wife refuses to replace it). We are considering a new HL hybrid, but the View could last another 150k-200k miles, and cost/benefit of spending another 45k to get an additional 10mpg just does not seem to be there. Best wishes to all.
Spot on review. Had a 2003 Pilot Ign & Trans problems. Have 2008 no issues at 230K
I love the Highlander and Pilot. In 2019 i set out to buy a new mid size suv. After driving the 2019 Highlander XLE from Orlando to Washington DC, I knew it wasn’t for me and my family. Nothing against it…..just wasn’t big enough or functional enough compared to the Gen 3 2019 Honda Pilot. Pricing being compared, I bought a 2019 AWD Honda Pilot Touring. I honestly love the Pilot. I pulled a 4200 lbs Geo Pro 20BHS from Vancouver, BC to Orlando, FL. The 3.5 Earth Dream Vtec with the newly programmed 9 speed is quick, powerful and sporty enough to most jobs done. It’s large enough to haul a family of 4, a 70 lbs malamute, and 15 lbs Shih Tzu across country with their cargo. It just is more capable.
My only warning is that I think Toyota in general still makes a more reliable product. My Pilot, while capable and extremely accessible and well designed interior is awesome…..it has an Achilles heal. The infotainment system has plagued the Pilot since 2018. If you buy a Pilot, beware the California Lawsuit against Honda for this issue. Mine was unfortunately one of the impacted vehicles. It took Honda until this April to figure out the solution. It still isn’t 100% corrected and worry free but at least works 90% of the time. In general I feel like my Pilot will last 200k if I take care of it. I still feel like Toyota makes a 300k mile lifetime Highlander.
I worked on an 18 highlander today and it was niiiiiiicccceeeeee
What was wrong with it?
We love you in Florida Scotty!!!! 🤙
We don’t

my 2016 Pilot was a nightmare..Emissions problems ..Fuel Injection issues, transmission started bucking like a Bronco..no one could figure out why the emmision warning light wouldnt go out..NEVER will I buy a Honda product again..looking towards Toyota Rav4 Hybrid for next purchase,,doing research 16 was a virtual lemon year for Pilots
Bought my highlander in 2008 when my son was born. My son is now a freshman in h.s. and in 2 months my highlander with 172k will be 16 yrs old. Besides oil, brakes and tires only replaced a water pump. Still runs like a top
My parents sold their 2003 Pilot last year with 320k miles on it. I miss it haha
Got a 2014 highlander 191k miles runs and feels like a dream
Love my 06 pilot 281k and still strong
Did you do a transmission oil change at any point?
@@truthistreason9708 not that I'm aware of. My dad bought it new in 2006 and I bought it from him last year. I know it's never had an alternator, starter, AC compressor none of the usual items. It's been a great suv.
Only thing it needs is a valve cover gasket.
Transmission shifts perfectly even though this model had transmission issues.
Scotty's Voice is a good bedtime story teller for car fanatics with insomnia. Keep it up sir. Your the best!
I was always a Honda guy but think the Highlander looks nice. I still like the boxy looks of the 2nd gen Pilot. Currently own a 4Runner and love it.
I am a satisfied Honda owner over 12 Hondas in our family. I owned A 2010 Honda pilot and put on 80,000 miles before selling it to my son, who now has 190,000 miles on the car, other than maintenance, has been reliable. You should consider towing capacity, one of the reasons I do not like the Highlander is limited ability to tow. The other area where Honda SUVs excel is All Wheel Drive capability in the snowy Northeast. I may consider a Highlander for my next vehicle but Toyota design engineers Make the ugliest cars on the planet.
@@WDJ40_RUNAWAY i definitely agree on that one. the front end on the camry is absolutely ridiculous. ive always been a honda fan. love the design of their cars. certain toyotas i will give credit for being well built, such as the 2004 sienna. my dad has one and is the original owner with 300K on it. so far ive owned both toyota and hondas, and right now i currently have a 2020 accord and love it. bought my wife a pilot and she absolutely loves it!
@@WDJ40_RUNAWAYtell me about Honda design engineers with the “redesigned” 2023 Honda accord? Honda used to make atractive cars but the 2023 Honda accord is the ugliest car in the planet, that’s why the sales on the 2023 accord dropped dramatically, 1 of 10 people like the 2023 accord 😩😩 in the other hand toyota Camry looks sporty and way more well designed than the ugly accord, however Honda accord hasn’t had a chance against Toyota Camry in sales since 2012, Hondas are good cars but can’t compare with the automaker’s king (Toyota)
I wish you were my neighbors. My 2006 Subaru Forester is on her last legs. 262k miles she's burning through oil my mechanic said no more fixes. Get a new car. Because of your videos I am also going to look into Holds pilot as well as a Toyota Highlander. First anniversary of my widowhood. In a couple days. Wish me luck. I'm watching every video I can
Got a used 2008 Highland, ended up having ABS and Computer issues
Ended up with a 2011 Acura MDX.
I am VERY happy.
Just did the Timing belt, for 1900 US......
Yikes. Thank you so much for this. Looking at buying a very low mileage 2019 Highlander because it’s the newest I can afford. Worried now. I’m going to research the issues you mentioned. Would love a link if you have it.
My dad bought a 2008 Toyota highlander limited for 12k 2 years ago. Car has not had any problems. The tires that were on it were bald continental and my dad needed to replace them. Now that he has, these new Cooper tires have given him many issues. Other than tires the car still drives good.
Michelin Defender LTX will last long and are the best. I have over 200,000 miles and the Defenders have proven to give me the most miles and I drive my highlander hard.
@@NMac-hy7do yeah he's aboutta fight the tire shop cause these tires are so shitty. Ill tell him about em. He wouldn't listen to me about what tires to buy lol.
In the past, we had many Hondas with so much money we spent on its parts and service. And, so much trouble, especially with the electronics components. When we switched to Toyota, we were so happy because all the vehicles performed way better than Honda. That is why we loved Toyota and Lexus forever.
Just bought a CA '17 certified base Highlander LE 4wd V6 with 84k mi and a CPO warranty for $26k. Very nice with fewer amenities. 22 -27 mpg. Big quick quiet comfy utility.
Replaced a 08 HH Ltd with 220k mi. Battery failed and couldn't get the 3 replacements to work more than 600 mi. Disappointed since I really liked that car and wanted another 150 k mi.
Will stick with ICE for a few more years. 1st 400 mi road trip today. SF to LA via I5.
I just purchased a highlander an I love it
2016 Pilot here..Have had no issues...3 road trips and and still fun to drive..oil change done every 3k miles..82k on thr odometer..
The Toyota 2GR-FKS engine (V6 3.5 Liter) has a common timing chain cover leak. Ask me how I know....
It was the V6 motor used in the Highlander from around 2007 to like 2018 or something. The dealership that my WIFE bought it from estimated a $3,700 for the repair. I believe that is 80% labor because you have to take the ENTIRE ENGINE OUT to get to it. Now, a timing chain cover leak isn't an issue IF the leak isn't significant AND you check to maintain the proper oil level in your engine. But as leaks can do, they can get worse. So you can be good one month and leaking too much the next month. That's why checking your fluids frequently even without a leak is ideal.
I am not sure if the 4 cylinder or the hybrid version of the V6 has a similar issue, but I just wanted to mention this because a $3,700 repair is quite significant and since it's common, I wish I knew this before she bought the vehicle. I'm sure I could find a mechanic out there that could do it for a little less, but I'm not sure it would be under $3,000. I probably would have steered her towards another vehicle or looked into the 4 cylinder if I knew about this problem.
You're welcome
~ Mechanic of Zero years
😃
Thanks for the heads up I definitely wont be buying that junk 😅
Picking up strong resentment toward your wife 🤣🤣🤣
Wait isnt that the same motor used in the current Tacomas? 😱
The FKS inherited that problem from the FE. It was most pronounced in 2015-18. I think the front TC cover leak (see this addressed by the Car Care Nut) was a production problem that has largely been resolved. We bought a 2022 version that has been perfect so far. We're keeping an eye on it, just in case.
I chuckled when you mentioned having an older Highlander and your kid will grow up and eventually be their first car. My 2001 Highlander is older than my kid and he is now driving it. Although you said this year wasn’t great for Highlanders, I have had very few issues and have loved how well it has stood the test of time.
2016 XLE V6 AWD here. Issues as of 154,000 km: O2 sensor failed and had to be repaired (~$600 CAD with labour)... leaky exhaust connection gasket (~$200)....failed back window wiper actuator (~$600), and now it has a bad front left strut, stock alloys were out of tolerance or 'run out' by 90,000 km. It really needs the four shock absorbers replaced as ride quality has deteriorated... but our roads are trash (east coast northern Canada). It has not had an easy life. Tows a ~4500 lb 24' trailer and a 14' cargo trailer with side by side and atv, lives 200 ' from the ocean, woods road every weekend, largest thule carrier and 80 lb canoe on the roof regularly, normally has 4 plus kids in it plus a wife with binary throttle control (throttle is on or off... there's no modulation). It's sad that the v6 won't be around in '23... seriously considering a trade now to retain a v6 and keep it for ten years. The new 6's are more efficient than the 6 in the 2016. It has been well used and well loved.... other than the fuel mileage....
For the pilot the best is 2008 and 2015. Avoid *2003, 2005, 2016
This was good. I like the Scotty Kilmer docu-dramas.
I had a 2003 Honda for 298,000 miles(19 yrs.). No transmission problem at all. Honda decided to not put trans filter in and people were not aware of this. I changed my trans fluid often because of this and never had a problem. I just bought a used 2016 Highlander and it is great. The Pilot has slipped in reliability. Sorry but wind noise and seat problem is no reason not to buy a 2015 Highlander. I'd rather have a solid engine, transmission, etc...than a comfortable seat.
I just bought a 2010 Highlander Limited 3.5L 137,000 miles made in Japan. I took a gamble and bought it with a few oil leaks. It was the front and rear valve cover gaskets and VVTI oil line. Got those fixed but I now notice a loud rumbling or growling when at highway speed and an intermittent vibration. Brand new brake pads, turned rotors. I believe it's bearing or bearings that are roaring. Off to the shop tomorrow to get it fixed, hopefully not gonna be all 4 bearings and possible CV Axels....ugh! Used cars! I got a pretty descent deal on it for these times but with all the work it needs, could of bought one that has had all maintenance done at the 130,000 mile mark. Live n learn I guess....I hope once this roaring is fixed it runs forever. Don't let me down Toyota!
I have a 2008 Toyota highlander over 207,000 miles on it. no issues only with the gas cap. I love it I still have it in 2023.😀
I have a 2016 Highlander and I can confirm on the wind noise which is only noticeable when ridding alone and without music, other than that is a great vehicle
Bought a used 2005 highlander in 2009 was great . Got in an accident and totaled it but we all walked away. We bought a 2006 to replace it but it had been in an accident you could tell it didn't drive like they normally do. 3 years ago we upgraded to a 2016 it has been great. They are really comfortable and great gas mileage.
Owned a 2003 Highlander V6, just sold it with 255K miles. Only replaced consumables when needed, TB, WP Brakes Tires. It had cloth seats that lasted except for the driver's seat that my wife repaired with needle and thread.
I just with cross country with my 2015 toyota highlander xle I love it! 👌
My wife liver her 2016 highlander hybrid, plenty of power (306hp), great gas mileage. Flawless, reliable.
Got a 2007 Honda Pilot with 250000 miles runs great
My 2016 Pilot is a nightmare. It has had multiple electronic failures, headlight wiring failures, the infotainment doesn’t work consistently, and now one of my oxygen sensors failed. Things happen but I only have 40k on it.
Have to talk to the Mrs. about a Highlander!
I have a 2006 Highlander Base 4cyl and I'm thinking of trading (or selling) it in for a 2016. I would NOT recommend 🙅🏻♀️ the 4 cylinder version. The engine burns oil and you know given that it's an older model and discontinued engine I won't be able to buy it new hence staying in that never ending loop of having an engine that burns oil badly. Because the engine was discontinued, so was the Engine Air Intake filter which I need and cannot find anywhere not even dealers have it (obviously) so that's the main reason why I'm thinking of getting rid of it - discontinued parts. However, I can for sure say it is low maintenance overall. I've never had a big issue with it besides the motor and would definitely recommend a Highlander 🙌🏻 My sister has a 2015 Honda Pilot and a lot of repairs already compared to my Highlander, however the ride IS quite smooth. Both are great cars though!
Toyota products is King in the automobile industry. 👑
I have both of these vehicles, ‘15 Highlander and a ‘16 pilot. I love them both.
Pilot sales might have decreased over the past few years as Honda introduced the passport which probably took some sales away from the pilot.
I personally preferred the original Boxier styling of the Pilot. New redesign makes it look like every other generic midsize SUV
@@210SAi I agree.
@@210SAi Same. We have friends with the 2020 Pilot Elite (they had a '17 that they leased and opted to buy a 2020 when the lease was up.) I like our 2013 EX-L better. I feel like the new Pilot looks and feels like an Odyssey without the sliding doors.
@@210SAi I love the body of my 06 pilot
2003 with 366000 miles still on the road runs as good as the day it was new. Past on to family. Purchase a new 2015 currently with 136000 miles runs great! Well built cars and dependable. Longevity due to regular maintenance as recommended by Toyota.
The 2020 and 2021 pilots had all kinds of recalls- didn’t like the form of either but loved Honda’s until all the recalls-
My dad owns a 2014 Highlander. He absolutely loves it.
I very much enjoy my wifes 2015 Highlander. We love road trips in it. I am pretty much deaf so I don't notice any wind noise. Lol
Isn’t your better half getting furious when you can’t listen to her commands or is it selective loss of hearing.
@@charonboat6394 Nope she knows the jet engines I used to work on causes my selective hearing 🤣🛩
@@MartinXRP Nice excuse and since I was in Air Force I’ll use that one.
@@charonboat6394 Very good! I retired AF in 2005! Been on aircraft for 36 years now😁
Thank you for this video, I've been look at SUVs and now I had a better idea of what to go with, thank you so much
All my Toyotas and my 1973 Econoline Van (Ford) have been my all around longest lasting vehicle. All the others, GMC, Chevy, Nissan, VW, Chrysler, they were ok but no comparison...
These may be great cars but they are both too expensive for me. We own a Prius v and wow, we have saved a ton of $$$$. At 196,000 miles now and hoping for many more!
BTW best CRV ever were 2005 and 2006. Sorry we ever sold our 2006 CRV 5 speed MANUAL transmission.
Drove both .... Highlander 350k miles Honda only 200k both were awesome... Pilot had more room but the Highlander way more comfort features... It depends on what you want it for.
Thank you Scotty! Merry Christmas from Puerto Rico 🇵🇷!
Hey Scott, how about 2016 Highlander?
There is no wrong choice betwixt most Toyota and Honda products.
Wifey drives a 2012 Pilot and it has been bullet proof.
Before my TLX, I drove her 2002 Honda Civic until 2019 to save for a home. 287k miles with no issue besides regular maintenance.
They are simply well engineered products.
2015 Highlander v6 has been absolutely flawless for 60,000 miles
Love your show, Scotty, always on the mark! We own an ‘07 Highlander Hybrid and love it at 127K, also a ‘17 Highlander Platinum (non-hybrid), love it also! Both great vehicles! (from a former lover of (Detroit iron, sadly!)
Hi Scotty, I enjoy your videos, I watch them almost every day. I purchased 2022 Honda Pilot Elite in September. I love the SUV we just drove it from Chicago to NY and back. One thing I was hoping you could shed some light on? My Pilot cannot be started from my smart phone but my 2019 Odyssey can. I called HomeLink and they confirmed this was true. They can't tell me why I am guessing from this video they have not updated the technology yet. Maybe it's time for a Toyota.
My parents sold their Honda Pilot 2015 with 55k miles for $15,000 😅
Just bought a 2013 w/112,00 miles, runs like a top, love it.
Good stuff! I hope TN is treating you and yours well Scotty.
I have a 2006 Toyota Highlander LE ! Best car ever!
im so glad Heffer is soo into cars
You didn’t mention worst issues with the 2016 Pilot. The Touring and Elite trims had issues with the 9 speed transmission. And people complained about the infotainment screen having issues. Even the dealer recommended an extra electronic warranty to cover it, just in case. Since it was the first year Honda put so much technology in it.
The 9-speeds were not made by Honda; they were a stopgap solution until Honda rolled out its 10-speed, a pretty rock solid transmission. Likewise and around the same time as the 9-speed, there were issues with the 3rd party, 8 speed DCTs found in the Acura 4 cyl. TSX. DCTs are known to be more problematic, expensive, and they shift herky-jerky at parking lot speeds.
I am looking at a 2016 Pilot. I would hope that the problems this car initially had would be tended too by the time I buy it used...
I hope!
2008 Highlander V6. The timing chain broke and destroyed the engine at about 160k miles. Very expensive bill to replace the engine.
I absolutely hate the box style Pilots. Front and rear both look squashed. They were heavy, suffered from piston slap, slow to accelerate, terrible mpg, and had weak transmissions. My brother owned one and he babied that thing. 2004 model. No matter what he did he had issues and Honda never could fix it. He replaced the transmission and sold it. It went out. That guy replaced that transmission and it failed. It had just over 100k on it. Scotty always said they make weak transmissions but people don't listen.
Based on a good experience with my 2001 Camry, which is still driving dependably and smoothly with over 220k (and no rusty body and no mechanical issues neither); I’ve decided to purchase the 2015 XLE Highlander. And so far it’s running dependably, smoothly, and no mechanical issue. Nothing but good experience with Toyota:
Peoplpoppppp?ppl?0pp0ll?plpl0p?0pl?pl
I, just recently, have started experiencing ABS and Traction Control dash lights coming on/off with my 2015 XLE Highlander (mileage around 99,300). I am still trying to figure out what the cause is. My first fix attempt did not solve it.
Scotty is worse than the FBI agent monitoring our phones. Been looking at a Highlander or Pilot and this video posts.
I have a 2020 Highlander, it is not a vehicle that you love, it is a functional, dependable piece of machinery. The service is bar none the best I have ever received from any dealership (that I love). The only complaint I have is the GPS system is dependent on another piece of equipment, the phone. That seems like Toyota is cheaping out. I use my GPS a lot and find it irritating to need to plug in a telephone to use it.
Glad I got a 2014 model! Nothing bad said in video and I never had a problem with mine, except my trunk stopped opening on its own (never got it fixed cause I didn’t really care about it) and sometimes doesn’t want you to close, takes a few tries. Thats it, come to think of it, does anyone have an issue like mine?
I want to try the Toyota but my heart is with honda. Which one has more power ??????????
Awesome break-down! Thank you
Thoughts on the new 2022 Civic?
@Frank Silvers lol
I didn’t forget to spank that like button Appreciate y’all Scotty all day long. Yahoo
Great content Scotty ,absolutely great cars thanks for sharing.
I’m buying a used Toyota Highlander 2007 120K millage I hope it a good car to me
What's very interesting is the carcarenut which is a UA-camr he's a mechanic and he says to avoid the 2017 Toyota Highlanders cause of engine leaks but you say that it's one of the best years for Toyota Highlanders??
My family always with hondas and acura because there are faster and a lot of more fun to drive and they look better beautiful now My 2008 pilot has 490k miles and I replace the time belt every 100k miles I have I pilot black edición that we love it toyota are good but honda are more fun
Greetings Scotty, from Orchard Park, New York!
I love my old pilot but I would strongly consider a new highlander.
