    HOW TO CHANGE DOOR UNLOCK SETTING. 2016 Highlander Limited (will work for all 3rd generation 2014-2019). When grabbing handle of door default mode is to unlock only the driver's door for safety reasons. I have three kids and want ALL doors to unlock when I grab the handle. PROCEDURE: Standing outside of vehicle hold down both the "lock" and "unlock" buttons on the key FOB for 10 seconds until you hear the beep. Now all doors will unlock when the door handle is grabbed. To change back to only open driver's side door just repeat the process. Also, you can double click the unlock on the key FOB to open all doors but I prefer to keep the FOB in my pocket and just grab door handle. Hope this helps, thanks!

      you can also set it on your vehicle settings and change it like that so you will never have to push those buttons again.

    I’m in the dealership right now, and was asking about these items, rep didn’t know what they were, so a quick UA-cam search found this video and we both learned. Thx!

      They have to know about every car they sell. We only need to swat up on one car. I found that I knew a good bit more detail than my dealer, but I have watched every UA-cam video (some multiple times) and downloaded the owner's manual and quick start PDF files while researching the Highlander. I pick up a 2017 Limited tomorrow. 😁😁😁

    15 more secrets and power user tips:
    1. You can open the rear glass by pressing the small black button on the tailgate to release and hook your hand just under the wiper and voila easy access to the back
    2. The rear seats have sun visors that pull up from the bottom of the window
    3. There is a privacy screen that mounts in the cargo area. It is stored under the flap in the cargo floor. If your is already up you can store it there.
    4. You can ask your dealer to change the fob settings to automatically roll down the windows and open the sun roof if you press and hold the door open button for 5 seconds. (I actually went in and had this option turned on, they hooked up a laptop to do it). Great on a hot day to release the hot air from the cabin.
    5. There is a power plug 120 VAC in the console storage area between the front seats.
    6. You can turn off lane warnings with the button on the wheel, right hand cluster.
    7. If you want a little extra jump when you step on the gas you can turn on sport mode. Using the centre screen in the gauge cluster select settings and find eco mode. You can change it to “power” mode and get more acceleration. This will automatically change back to eco mode when you turn the car off
    8. You can program your maintenance reminders and even enter your dealer so it can present the number when it’s time to get service. Go to the entertainment screen, apps, maintenance and look for dealer setup
    9. Some vehicles have driver settings on the door where you can save your seat position. If you have it there will be a 1 and 2 button on the drivers door and a selector next tot them. Sadly, I didn’t get this option so when my wife moves the seat up I can’t get in until I move the seat back again.
    10. You can customize the home screen of the infotainment system to have four quick access buttons to dial your favourite contacts with one touch. This is a must have.
    11. When outside the car, touching the inside of your door handle will unlock the doors, assuming you have the fob with you. Touching the double groove on the top of the handle will lock the doors.
    12. You can change the dash brightness using the small twist knob just under the speedometer
    13. You can disable engine auto stop from turning off the engine at red lights by pressing the auto stop off button on the dash drivers side by the door lower down
    14. You can have the car automatically switch on and off the brights as oncoming cars go by. This feature can be turned on and off using the button on the drivers side dash near the door. It has a headlight symbol. (Not all models)
    15. The cargo area on XLE has plastic moulded on it to prevent spills from getting on the carpeting. I have an SE that doesn’t come with that (just carpet) so I bought a WeatherTech®️ custom mat for about $150 www.weathertech.ca/en/toyota/2018/highlander/cargo-liner/

    Two more for you: The rear hatch also has an emergency release on the inside near the bottom. Helpful if you store your jumper cables in the cargo area and your battery is dead. Also, if you want to keep listening to the radio after you've parked your car, shift to Neutral instead of park before turning the car off. The radio will stay on without interruption.

    • @caharris79
      @caharris79 5 років тому +1

      @@tedking9948 Yes, in my 2014 model, there is a button in the glove box to disable the motor. In 15 or 16 I think they got rid of the button you have to turn it off one the electronic dash display. When the motor is off, it's a pain to open and close, but saves your car battery I guess.

    You can adjust the height of the rear hatch to any height you want by opening the hatch, stop the hatch at the desired height then hold down the hatch down button on the hatch itself for 2 seconds. Now every time you open the hatch it will open to that height.

      @@Liledgy100 That is going to depend on how far over the barrel you can get the dealership. End of the year, end of the month and when the economy takes a nose dive are the best times. I got a few bells and whistles instead of deep discounts but they were things I would have bought anyway. I had more than a dozen dealers to beat each other up against because I was willing ( and able ) to fly 1000 miles to get the best deal. Good Luck.
      This guy gives pretty good guidance on negotiating even if he is in Australia.

    This is awesome. I knew about the rear door setting but not the lock and I knew about the trap door for the fuel filler door. One thing I’d like to add is for those with a push button start key fob. The key fob is constantly “ looking for “ a signal from the vehicle so key fob battery life can be increased by holing down the lock button on the fob and pressing the unlock button and releasing it. This puts the fob into low power mode increasing battery life but also making the key fob harder for a thief to “ tune into “. You can tell the fob is in low power mode because after holding the lock button down and pressing and releasing the unlock button the little red light on the key fob will blink 4 times. Just remember that when you go to your vehicle and attempt to enter by using the door handle sensor it won’t work so you must reset the fob to full power by pressing a button first.

    I found out today that pushing the mute button on the steering wheel twice quickly will turn on the radio on my Highlander Limited. ( The one with all the bells and whistles like the full sun roof etc.) It does not turn it off though. Oh and changing the volume will cancel the mute.

    You can turn off the Adaptive Cruse Control and just have regular (normal) Cruse Control by holding the button, on the lever, in for a few seconds when you turn it on.

    Get roof rack bars option and rear hitch to have more options with limited cargo space when 3rd row is used. If Toyota hasn't fixed the problem: expect to replace driver side power lock motor around 3 years.

      Yep, a Toyota problem for some reason. On my 2016, have already changed door lock actuators on left front and left rear doors. Had to do it on my Corolla as well. DIY and you'll save about $400 compared to dealer. You can buy the part for about $100.

    I have a 2017 Highlander Hybrid. From the get go, I shut-off the lane departure feature as the sensor detects tar lines from sealing road cracks parallel to the direction of travel.

    • @DaxM
      @DaxM  6 років тому

      Don Johnston I’ve NEVER had it detect the tar lines. If it really is, I’d take it in for them to recalibrate your camera/software.

    • @donjohnston3776
      @donjohnston3776 6 років тому +1

      It might happen when sunlight or headlights bounce refract off the tar? Interestingly, a crack suddenly formed across the bottom of the windshield center over to the drivers side in mid-February. The windshield was replaced under warranty (no impact involved) and the sensors recalibrated. Sensors for the cruise control radar don't like wet snow and the external cameras don't work if covered by road salt.
