When Pete first got the car, he talked of manual swap and LHD conversion... like before S15 and FD if I remember correctly. So he may be into it for sure.
Evo X or outlander paddles can be fitted to the 9. Exo X steering column covers can be used with a few mods or you can cut the std ones. Also bula racing in Sydney Australian can build you one hell of a auto trans
I use the Eonon in my VW (2015) because it completely updates the stereo in even late model cars - it has been flawless. Not enough people know they have such a good option. It looks and works like factory in the VW dash of that era even flashing the climate control etc. changes on screen like the stock unit did.
The unpopular opinion: get that transmission built. It's worth keeping this car in this format for the culture. I own a Saab 92x Aero with built everything...and kept the auto. Upgraded all those internals so it behaves well when you're out for slow drives, and pulls hard AF when you want to Hoon. Really the best of both worlds. Pay attention to the valve body upgrade and stall of your TC.
Agreed, see what the auto can do, there is another Japanese gem that uses that same engine with an auto transmission.....mitsubishi airtrek turbo, same drivetrain
I would love to see you guys do a budget d series build! You guys do a great job of creating videos with a ton of information, and there really isn’t much UA-camrs doing anything on a single jingle
i had dreams of a single turbo D16Z6 build back in my younger years, it would be great to see if this is even viable these days. Probably not due to lack of support and the fact that the K swap is just a better platform.
as a fellow Automactic EVO 7 owner i say keep it Auto cause i heard Evo 9 Auto Transmission can handle upto 550hp with small changes and i also love to see how the auto transmission performs with all those mods. ps: people in australia do alot of mods for the GTA Evos including padel shifters
agreed, i felt like the auto ct9x evos are still relatively unknown for the tranny strength and potential when built correctly, especially in the youtube world aside from the one artec built
I have an automatic turbo Baja and wouldn't change it. I installed an upgraded valve body and some paddle shifters. It has a 20g turbo and makes plenty of power even if it's losing some through the transmission.
The black on grey is a perfect combo. A WRX wagon vs Evo wagon rivalry would've been dope. Works Bell probably has a paddle shifter conversion kit for it.
I read that the 5 speed gearbox from the none mr evo is stronger. The 6 speed tends to break gears when push more boost. Especially if you try to launch with t The 6 speed. Love the car guys! That boost flutter sounds so cool.
Yes! I've always wanted to see a LHD conversion performed, mainly on a Skyline R33GT. I'm sure the LHD conversion is easier for an Evo which came in both configurations. Yes, put the best 5 or 6 speed you can in this thing. 💪
Another rad build. In looking at fun projects lately I’ve sort of turned away from RHD cars for this very reason. Just too much focus on stranger hand shifting. I say leave it as is or my swap and conversion… keep up the great content guys!
Former DSM guy here, the first and second gen Exlipse GSX’s and Talon TSi’s had turbo 4G63’s with automatics, and yes there’s control boxes to make them shift on command with buttons on the steering wheel you add…. Maybe they have a paddle setup now I duno been out of the game for a while but I’d imagine it can be done to the Evo. Also an Evo wagon is cool as hell! Btw the older autos in the GSX’s (awd) hold a lot of power, people use them for drag racing when they get more serious than manuals, or tired of breaking stuff)
Keep it auto. It can be upgraded (more aggressive friction plates, valve body upgrade for more line pressure etc.). Artec is doing a 10 sec build on an evo 9 wagon as well. Maybe you could get info from them. The planetary upgrade (welded) is also recommended by most and you could spice up the the transmission with tuning. There is an evo x paddle shifter mod but that would require minor cutting of the cover but it's only three wires to splice from the shifter. My dream project is an Airtrek Turbo R swap in my 2006 Lancer.
Do NOT swap!!! Keep it as it is and enjoy it! Evo’s and DSM’s with manuals are cars you gotta beat in to really enjoy, but I can imagine just enjoying that thing without always trying to play with it. Look into building up the auto and keep it.
I'm sure you said when you first bought it you were going to manual and LHD swap it so I was a bit surprised when you didn't... of course we want to see that!! ;)
16:54 again from the sounds....you need to get a tuner who knows how to tune that automatic. Your shifts can be significantly faster and they can reduce all the slippage thats in the factory map that robs power
Manual swap looks like the way to go between the much lower drivetrain loss, higher reliability and ability to hold power. Left hand drive conversion seems like a ton of work and money, plus you lose the cool factor.
This would be awesome with a ZF 8hp auto would be amazing, 8 gears, short lower ratios and long 8th gear for highways, quick shifts, smooth when left in auto, not to mention super high torque rating
I'd say keep it right hand drive. I do see how a manual swap would be trickier to drive on the right. Just seems like a shame to hack up an already rare jdm car. That torque converter might already be it's limits huh? I guess it's a good thing the dyno didn't push too much more power. Good luck!
honestly im all in for manual swap but the LHD conversion kinda kills it for the car. i drove LHD and RHD cars and i honestly love the RHD, not for the looks but the feel of it. i currently have 02 lexus IS300 and 99 toyota altezza and i drive my altezza more than my IS300
Manual swap time. Looks like the PDR guys pretty much removed the style line along the arch. :( Love the EVO content. So cool that Mitsubishi made a one year only EVO wagon. They used to really care about the enthusiasts back in the day :(
upgrade the Torque converter and do lefthand drive conversion, make it the best daily car possible, I think retaining the auto but doing some upgrades to it would make it a very awesome car to drive day to day.
As a fellow evo 9 wagon owner ( auto as wel ) i say go ahead with the six speed swap gearbox i'm thinking about it as wel or maby a sequential gearbox that would be sick
if you want an Auto, there are kits available to adapt the 4G63 to the VW group DQ500 7 speed DSG transmission from the Audi RS3.... if you want an "auto" with better control and better gearing - not to mention far more support - that may very well be an option for you.
Everyone does a manual swap. I’d be more impressed if you set it up on paddles and tried to get the shift response down so you don’t have to worry about banging the limiter
Manual swap is worth it. Do the 5 speed instead of the 6 speed as the 5 speed is stronger, as other comments have already noted. Don’t do a LHD conversion as the view count likely won’t justify the effort.
This car is SO COOL. Agreed it needs a manual or some work done to the auto in order to hold more power. Why not keep it right hand drive for less work in the swap though?
Yep, do,the conversation. You have the car, done a build series, now take it to another level. Is there a later, higher performance autobox that might be worth considering, even if its a conversion from another manufacturer like VW DCT SQ500 etc.
Why does UA-cam never recommend this channel to me anymore?!
Always gems from this channel
Same.

What is sequential in it? Call him up. Tell him to give you one.
I'd love to see this car being converted to LHD and manual
@@skirne_they should really donit if he wants to keep it.

Manual swap it
“Oh no! Auto trans is slipping. Oh well I guess we got to manual swap now. But while we are in there…let’s move the steering wheel to the left” 🤘😎🤘
As an airtrek Ralliart turbo owner, keep it

Auto is best
The 9 has one revised planet and the revised wave spring. But will still benefit from the welded planets and transmission remap
agreed, i felt like the auto ct9x evos are still relatively unknown for the tranny strength and potential when built correctly, especially in the youtube world aside from the one artec built
Paddle shifters are available for the VII & IX GTA. People have done it retro fitting the paddle shifters from the Evo X/ Ralliart Lancer.
Once gain asking the crew to find us a v70r for Dave to sling at this evo wagon. Return of the battle wagons
I have an automatic turbo Baja and wouldn't change it. I installed an upgraded valve body and some paddle shifters. It has a 20g turbo and makes plenty of power even if it's losing some through the transmission.
ugh im torn between upgrading to a ipt valvebody on my 4eat FXT or manual swap.
Do the conversion! I love your guys's Evo content and it makes me wish I could do so much more to my Evo.
OMG 1g’s 💕 DSM’s 👌
I love the way EVO Wagon looks, very nicely done.
Great job guys car sounds great looks good ! Keep up with the great videos
Content-wise, conversion ftw! Can't imagine the hit on the wallet for that type of converting though! But rest assured, I'll be here for it!
So nice to see some Diamond Star cars still going! I miss my talon 😢
The black on grey is a perfect combo.
A WRX wagon vs Evo wagon rivalry would've been dope.

Yes. I would LHD this and swap it to good old manual shift. I'll certainly be along for the ride.
Manual and left side drive most definitely 😎🏎️

Yes LHD swap and manual conversion. That would make it a pretty unique setup. Not too many videos on LHD swapping.
The pic with 'dissapoints' disappoints
Yes do it.. LHD conversion and Manual swap!!
If youre having trouble taking off the valve cover, remove the oil cap and put a lever inside, then pry as you rotate around. 👍🏼
Honestly it makes a great Dadwagon as is. Not too loud, not crazy racecared out. Has room for kids and groceries, comfy yet still cool and JDM.
One life to live. Will make great content. Swap it!
A manual conversion is a big job but I would like to see what is involved, how long it takes and how much it costs
It's not that bad. These guys have lifts, all the tools, and plenty of help. I did a manual swap on my E36 M3 in my one car garage on jack stands.
need to get you a GFB bypass valve. it keeps the recirculation AND gives you the fun blow off whoosh. i have one on my auto Baja.

Heard good things of this guy in the Ontario EVO forums 👍
Reza is the best Mitsubishi tuner in Canada. He did my 97 gst few months ago
Keep it auto. Not every car needs to be a race car
One of the coolest cars ever
Monumental effort (and not something I would ever have time/motivation for) but a LHD and manual swap would be epic.

“Cows don’t smell like torque convertor oil” 😂😂😂😂 hilarious, enjoyed the episode very much, thanks gents!🙏🏻
Please, go all in on the swap/conversion!
I think you should do both.
I'd love to see both a manual swap and LHD conversion! That'd be great content on what's already an awesome car.
Manual swap looks like the way to go between the much lower drivetrain loss, higher reliability and ability to hold power.
Left hand drive conversion seems like a ton of work and money, plus you lose the cool factor.
If you love it do the conversion. It’ll be great content.
Either that, or a better torque converter and shift kit.
Also, please disable the beeps on that radio. Always my first move on those.

They should install a SE front lip 😍
They're gonna have to replace it 6 times a year😂
Yes manual lhd conversion please!!!
I would love to see the left hand drive and manual conversion!
upgrade the Torque converter and do lefthand drive conversion, make it the best daily car possible, I think retaining the auto but doing some upgrades to it would make it a very awesome car to drive day to day.
For the rear fender you could actually put some black paint below the edge and it will seem like gone.
SEND MARCO SOME SPIEDUCCI! LOVE FROM ALBERTA!
This is my dream car. I pray one day I can afford one
It would be super interesting to see the lhd conversion process
Those 1G DSMs 😍
yes for manual swap. LHD conversion would be rough.. basically would need the whole front clip. Firewall is too different imho
Now I want to see a track battle between the EVO and the Flexus.
Yes do it!!!
Short answer, yes. Long answer, also yes.
Tactical comment for the algorithm 😅 I sold my car, because I didn’t need it anymore for commuting, but man, this is a nice daily 😎
LHD conversion would be sweet!
I want to see the trans and LHD swap! Would be epic!
As a fellow evo 9 wagon owner ( auto as wel ) i say go ahead with the six speed swap gearbox i'm thinking about it as wel or maby a sequential gearbox that would be sick
Did you guys change transmission fluid? You should put some fresh amsoil in it
if you want an Auto, there are kits available to adapt the 4G63 to the VW group DQ500 7 speed DSG transmission from the Audi RS3.... if you want an "auto" with better control and better gearing - not to mention far more support - that may very well be an option for you.
Immediate thumbs up
Get a whole E9 MR front clip, swap the whole thing, body included.
You can do evo x mr paddle shiffter retrofit
Also theres tunes out there for the gearbox to increase torque lock up pressure

Wonder if there is a way to raise the fluid pressure in the transmission. It should help hold the power and should shift better.
DO IT! 🔥
Now. If you are doing the lhd conversion please remember the ralliart parts fit. Save a dime.
Keep the auto, upgrade the torque converter to handle the power. Under dog makes it fun to continue building.
Manual + lhd conversion project series 🤘🏼
This car is SO COOL. Agreed it needs a manual or some work done to the auto in order to hold more power. Why not keep it right hand drive for less work in the swap though?
Evo x paddle shifters can be fitted on to the wagon there many vids of doing it on youtube keep the auto box man its best
