So confession time…I first saw this video come out this morning and immediately thought-“Not another filler video with material I’ve already seen…when are they going to put out new content like the highly anticipated road trip video with the RX8 and Eclipse.” A few hours later I decided to to give it a try. Glad I did. This is not your normal rehashed how to build a blank car video in 30 minutes that everyone puts out. The Ben’s kept my interest with the narration and the pricing recap. Well done lads!
I thought the exact same, assumed it was a "rebuild rehash filler" type video. I don't track my cars or even particularly like the Evos but still watched every minute. Very well executed build summary.
@@luffy858I agree 100%. I don’t track my car either, but I thoroughly enjoy watching the iterative process of the build and the passion Ben has for his Evo.
The swell of emotion in the final seconds of the video seeing you guys working on her and Mark saying "let's get her running..." I've been watching your journey since 2017 and love every minute of it.
Nice job Ben! Very informative for people looking into buying or modding their EVO. Glad a little sliver of my video made the cut. I've kept my evos in street form and learned from other evo friends on what not to do from when they pushed their evos too far. In short, for a street evo, i always recommend and OEM short block, e-85, exhaust, tune, clutch upgrade and minor upgrades to fueling to support running E-85. Lastly, speaking of fuel, I think your 255 pump in Lana is due for an upgrade with your current setup! Or at-least replaced it after years of use :)
Paul, apologies for not hitting you up before I used the clip. I put it in last night while editing and should have asked. Thanks for making such informative Evo content as always, man!
I just got my 9 back from the shop. I bought it for 9.5k with a blown head. After getting the head fixed, a new exedy twin clutch, white line sway bars, and bump steer kit, and a few other replacement parts. I’m 22k in on the car. I love it! I can’t wait for another year to start modifying like this for the track. Thanks for the video!
Not bad! I bought my 2003 Evo with blown shortblock for $9500. 212K miles, too. Lol I got an OK deal. I was planning to do a full restoration before I bought it. Surprisingly, it's in pretty good shape. I would've loved to have gotten a 9 for that price though.

So back in the summer of 2006, I was in need of transportation. I remember relentlessly searching all across the East Coast for a Wicked White MR. In September, I finally found one at the Malloy Mitsubishi dealership in Woodbridge, VA. It had sat in the showroom the entire time and had 7 miles on the odometer. $38k later, I had my dream car I've always wanted to own since I was a kid watching Tommi Makkinen racing in WRC. Then inevitably, 2 months later I was rear ended on the capital beltway. All the more reason to get a JDM Rear bumper and while I was at it, an SE lip :) I never modded the car much other than an Amuse R1 Titan turbo back and an intake. And from 2012 till about 2020. It sat in the garage and was occasionally turned on every few months. Sold it in the summer of 2020 to some guy from South Carolina (I think). Mostly because my wife thought it was a waste of space. Watching this video, yours looks (ed) exactly like mine and I miss it dearly. So much so, I think I'm going to track down the owner and try to buy it back. Thank you for reminding why I shouldn't have let it go in the first place. PS: I think I might have a non se wicked white lip sitting in my folks' attic, you're welcome to it. Might be better juju then the SE ones.
Gosh I think all have stories like this.. how I should never of sold my 2012 STI, and now own a 2023 WRX, but it’s just not the same and wish I can find another 2012-14 STI someday..
My cousin used to compete in Rally in the National Championship with Evo's, now he's a factory Hyundai driver, because of that he has loads of Evo's laying around, from evo IV to X, some for parts, some for training, some he lends to other drivers for Rally as he has a garage. Going to his garage and see all different types of Evo's is such an eye candy that made my childhood, just went yesterday and they were changing the livery on a Evo X. Evo's are my fav cars of all time, such a bummer that Mitsubishi stopped building racing cars.
First of all, that australian accent sounded alot like marty from MCM good job ben! :D And second of all, you won't believe how stoked i am to see Lana back up and running stronger then ever before! Let's see if you can do it by march, crossing my fingers!
Excellent summary of legit parts. Many/most youtubers get a lot of details wrong, but the pan and the uprights are key. Another benefit to a lighter twin disc clutch is not cracking your clutch pedal bracket assembly. This is basically as good as the 20 year old Evo modding for dummies thread on Evom. Amazing NZ+Australian accents too, just like the real thing, I could almost feel the sunburn and weird lizards crawling all over me.
I've been studying your Evo build for over a year because in the next couple years I want to build my own track Evo, this video makes it so much easier! keep up the work and I'm incredibly excited for the evo to come back this year!

That’s an obscene amount of money to spend but it’s understandable when you’re building a car for the track and chasing the podium, Ben’s efforts got him his wins. Like Ben said that’s only the build cost not including consumables which really add up over time. Some say he could’ve spent less but it was like a trial and error journey, he used what he had and what he was supposed to for his races then made changes as he needed to fix or improve things. TBH the average guy will only be able to spend a fraction of what was spent unless he has money, sponsorship or both. Even Ben’s recommended build at the end at $44k is way more than most will be able to reasonably do. Since this was a track built car and most guys using theirs as daily’s only, they get some good advise on what can be done if they’re looking for extra performance.

In the beginning I thought you were talking about my 05" EVO VIII MR. I went through 4th gear detonating, found out I had a twin disc clutch and way too many similarities. If it wasn't for the fact your car is white and mine's graphite gray, you could've been talking about mine. She's unfortunately been sitting for years (in my garage, I'm not a savage) because she started knocking and I can't afford to have her heart rebuilt. I hope to rebuild with forged internals to hopefully make it bullet-proof for "spirited" street driving.
Love seeing these break downs on how it started to where it's ended up. Been following your channel for a long time. This make me really wonder "what could have been" if you had kept the Mazdaspeed 6 and put this much effort into that car for you racing. One of your best videos Ben.
Your EVO has been an inspiration for me. I love love love the Evo 8/9 and even the X.
If I could find one for $15-20,000. I'd buy one and have fun with it as well. 🎉😊😂
Good editing man, I like what you did at the end
"no price for passion" is what i always say.
superbe video man we feel the passion we share for AWD four cylinder booted car. im on Golf R mk6 plateform from 2012. Good job !
Ben's Australian accent is perhaps one of the best I've seen from an American on YT.
His New Zealand accent isn't too bad either, nice 🤟
The FLOW of this video is GOD like.
Love this video. Excellent work.
Me being a Speed 3 owner would have loved the series but I guess a built Speed6 wouldn't have gotten the views a built Evo series has gotten you.
