- In making this video, some images and footage were removed due to the apparent aberrations at f/3.5. This lens has much better control over flare, and the current lens has nearly the same sharpness and color rendering as the 28mm f/3.5. At least with SUPER, I can play with its flare.
Great video on a overlooked lens. It is the 3rd lens I bought...back in 1973 for my Pentax SP1000. I paid $300 for it new. Still have it.
Another superb video. Thank you.
The pleasure it’s mine. Thank you.
You've done it again, another great video which was very informative. I've got the Auto Takumar 35mm, and you've intrigued me with this lens. Cheers!
You welcome and my advice for you all are, grab it now if you can. Thank you again.
Beautiful once again. Like you, I think I would prefer just a little more contrast and sharpness than the super 24 offers. I want a 'cinematic' look rather than one that looks like a 1980s home video 😁. So I will probably go for the SMC 24 as you have for the same reasons. It seems to hit the sweet spot in your examples. Many thanks.
Thank you for your comment. If you want a “cinematic look” with post, this is the fast lane. The professionals says “always keep everything flat “no saturation, sharpness and contrast “ if your camera can't record raw.” This method you still have room for post processing. Anyway, the most important is working in the confort zone😊
@@red_code Many thanks. I am still just trying these out, so it is early days. Seeing other people's cinematic styles, I find I like the ones where that style looks like a deliberate intention rather than a sad accident 🤣🤣
@@earlgreybeard 🤣😂
Very rich colors indeed! Perfect reds!
The last footage of the rain saved my day. That rain went "just in time".
@@red_code Yes night footage is always better with rain! ❤
It's a good performer in my book.
Regarding the stiff aperture reing - it's probably the adapter! Try to take off the lens and rotate the aperture ring. If it moves nicely whithout the adatper - you need an adapter that doesn't press the aperture pin. (and the aperture lever, thich makes the movement of the aperture ring stiff). This is becaouse the SUPER-MULTI-COATED-Takumars have a bit different construction on the mount side with a longer aperture lever.
Hello and thank you for your comment . Much appreciated.🙂
Do you have any information on the P. Angenieux 35mm f2.5 version R1 and Version R2 (does it even exist)? I have an opportunity to acquire R1 but I'm not sure if I should hold out for the R2. Thanks!
Also, I will be picking up the P. Angenieux 28mm f3.5 R2 tomorrow. Another reason I might want the 35mm f2.5 R2 instead of the R1.
Oops, sorry for the late reply. Unfortunately, sorry for this. If you have that opportunity, don't miss it. Maybe one day, one of those will be in my dry cabinet.
I love this video, and the examples are really good. Too bad about the sticky aperture for video, though. I have a question: What camera body did you use for stills and video? I liked and subscribed, too!
Thank you for the comment. The camera body that I use is the Sony Alpha 7R-4A.
Love this lens, even though its very similar to my 28mm.
I tottaly agree with you. Thank you.
It will be very nice to have one with the PL-mount
Fear not. You can buy an adaptor M42 to Arri PL mount.🙂 M42 mount is my main reason for collecting them.
Do you know if it is radioactive by chance? Cannot find any info on it
There's no info about if this lens is radioative but I don't think is. I need a geiger counter to answer your question with precision.
First! Thanks for the vid!
I have the Super-Takumar 24mm f3.5, which I will probably keep, as I'm not a fan of such a wide focal length in general shooting. However, one day I intend to compare the SMCT 28mm f3.5 to the Topcor 28mm f2.8 just to see if I care about the difference in rendering. How do they compare for you?
Make a video, would love to know too.
Thank you for your comment. In my opinion, your Topcor 28mm will excel the SMC 28, if you are a fan of lens flaring. Have you ever catched coma aberration (light shower) from your Topcor? It's somehow tricky to get it, specially depending the light intensity of the sun and the sun height. Noon time is the best. And I stand at your side for the Topcor. And attending to the place where I live, wide-angle is a must.
@@damiendehorn6350 Bravo, just give me time😊.
@@red_codealthough I prefer 50-58mm as a primary focal length, 28mm seems a better partner than 35mm for street photography.
I have made the Topcor flare and I find it creates quite interesting patterns. Thanks!
@@red_code one more takumar question - i'm trying to decide between the 85mm f1.8 and the 85mm f1.9 takumars. I've heard the f1.8 is sharper in the center wide open, but that the older f1.9 might have smoother bokeh. Which would you choose and why? thanks!
