The KMZ Helios 44, remastered. Chapter 52
Переглядів 70828 днів тому
In this video, you will meet the 44s line-up family, how many of them did you know, and why the 44-2 is so popular? This lens was the first Russian lens that led me to collect them, with no regrets. It took me a long to publish this remaster, as I publish lens series following a sequence, related to Country of origin and brand, and easier to follow. In this chapter, I made a comparison side by side between this Rokkor with the Auto-Takumar 85mm f/1.8, and this is the final chapter of the Minolta lens series. As I mentioned in another very recent post on another of yours, my Minolta 55mm only focusses to around 16 or so feet when on an adapter for Fuji X. Something going on I don't know? You don't have this problem.

    Second of your goods watching tonight. fist was the Meyer Gorlitz 1.9. That was classy. I think this was a bit too short. Back troubles have kept me around home in the Mission district of San Francisco, and just talking pics with my various Minolta vintage lenses of the unusual objects I have in late afternoon light coming through wood venetian blinds. Fuji X body, Fotasy adapters on all my lenses so i don't have to switch around. Have some goodies from Ukraine, and you can guess what they are...lots of blades. But a Minolta on an adapter seems to only focus as far as..well, let's say, 14-17 feet. And I only just noticed that. Find for indoors, but very limited for outdoors. And as the Minolta Rokkor numbers go up, from 50 to 58, even less distance. I don't have your longer lens. But I do have those longer Ukraine lenses...Looking forward to more of your uploads tomorrow night..and viewing them on a 27" 5K retina Imac...that I traded one pair of shoes for. Not kidding.

    A great update and yet another great video! There are a few thousand early prototype Helios 44 models with an aperture value of f/2 to f/22, up 6 stops from the f/16 of ALL other Helios 44 and 44-2 lenses. They are relatively rare and may contain non-Soviet glass left over from World War II reparations taken from the Zeiss factory in Jena, Germany during Operation: Osoaviakhim. I'd be happy to send you one for review in your next update video if you promise to ship it back!

    Can I do this in Helios 44-7?

    • @red_code
      @red_code 17 днів тому

      Thanks for your comment. This Old Zebra version, it has a long front thread. You need to unscrew the ring that secures the first lens then invert it from concave to convex. Your 44-7 has to have enough thread to secure the front lens, otherwise, the first element will fall off. Do this carefully and have fun.

    Beautiful once again. Like you, I think I would prefer just a little more contrast and sharpness than the super 24 offers. I want a 'cinematic' look rather than one that looks like a 1980s home video 😁. So I will probably go for the SMC 24 as you have for the same reasons. It seems to hit the sweet spot in your examples. Many thanks.

      Thank you for your comment. If you want a “cinematic look” with post, this is the fast lane. The professionals says “always keep everything flat “no saturation, sharpness and contrast “ if your camera can't record raw.” This method you still have room for post processing. Anyway, the most important is working in the confort zone😊

      @@red_code Many thanks. I am still just trying these out, so it is early days. Seeing other people's cinematic styles, I find I like the ones where that style looks like a deliberate intention rather than a sad accident 🤣🤣

    tyvm for the video. if you could keep only one of the 85mm lenses (minolta vs takumar) which would it be and why?

    • @red_code
      @red_code 2 місяці тому

      😆Pentax. You only realize Pentax it's not that sharp if you zoom in. I don't crop pictures or footage. Pentax bokeh is more round, and I prefer a background with some pattern - think over a cup of coffee with milk just added without stir. Minolta offers a creamy D.O.F., the milk pattern is gone. I"m saying this because I'm incorporating all others Pentax lenses in a group if realizing a short film project. One lens alone doesn't make any difference .Thanks for your comment.

    Love the look of the Minolta 85 f1.7. Very good comparison video with the Tak lens. Thanks for sharing your beautiful city.

    When you gave the dimensions of the lens, you made a mistake, using cm instead of mm.

    How do I know if mine is an early copy?

      From the batch number you find behind the A/M switch.

    Oh that is so beautiful! That might just be your skill of course, but your footage makes me want to rush out and buy a copy of this lens for video work. What a stunner! Thank-you so much.

    Thank you for your great video. I really love to own this legendary lens but i have a bit concern whether this radioactive lens will impact the mirrorless camera sensor over the period of time? Does this matter need to be worried? 👍

      As easy as a piece of cake. I have several radioactive lenses, specially the Carl Zeiss Pancolar (Zebra) 50mm f/1.8 (the strongest one). Unmount it from your camera body and if you don't feel safe, put it inside of a tin and close it. Only it's unsafe if you grind the glass dust and have direct contact with your body. Thanks for your comment.
