    I just bought a beautiful Pentax Spotmatic and I have the 55mm F1.8. I love that this 35m is so small and affordable. I will order one for this old camera and to shoot street with Kodak TRI-X 400 film.

    One of my favorite Takumars.

    Love my Takumars, you can build a reasonable set (24mm 3.5, 28mm 3.5, 35mm 2 and 3.5, 50mm 1.4, 55mm 1.8, 85mm 1.9 and 135mm 3.5) for much less then other vintage brands. The build quality is legendary and very compact. Great for my video paired with the Lumix S5. If you need a slightly more contrast, then the Pentax SMC/M cousins are available too.

      I love the Pentax M series!
      Takumars are pretty rare and expensive here in Italy, but I managed to get a couple for a reasonable price!

      @@MarcoAries Which ones and how much? Or is that for the next videos? Asahi created 3 of the most beautiful series, the Takumars, SMC Pentax and the Pentax M. Love their look, from really vintage to near modern. Great build, incredible focal range and speeds. I'm trying to build a set with nearly all of them, still a fair way to go.
      Love your channel, can't wait on your take on the rest of the Takumars.

      @@damiendehorn6350 I'm slowly putting together a Pentax M set, you can see almost all the ones I have/had/tried here on the channel, but currently it includes the 28 2.8 and 3.5 (still deciding which one to keep), the 50 1.7 and 1.4 (keeping both just because the 1.4 is rare here) and the 135 3.5. I've sold the 200 f4 because it wasn't as good as the other and I'd like to eventually add the 3.5 2.8, 40 2.8, 85 and 100.
      As for the Takumars, I was referring to this 35 and the 50 1.4 and 135 3.5 that I still have to review. I got lucky and got them for around 60€ each. The 35 and 135 I've usually seen around 70-80€ and the 50 around 150-200€

      @@MarcoAries Nice set, and definitely a great deal to get a 35mm, 50mm 1.4 and the 135mm 3.5 for under Euros 200. After your tests let us know what you think of the Takumars vs the Pentax M and whether its logical to have both sets? Or if you think they are too similar and redundant to collect both sets, would love hear your opinion.
      As for the Pentax M, they are still so affordable that I built 2 identical sets (28mm 3.5, 35mm 2.8, 50mm 1.7, 100mm f2.8 and 135mm f3.5) so I can cine-mod 1 set with fake oval inserts, could never think of doing that with the Contax or Leicas.

      Ooh, cinemodding the Ms is gonna be interesting!
      I've been comparing the taks and the Ms, and I'll have videos about that, but I would say that they are different enough that it would make sense to have both sets. The Ms are more modern and consistent, while the Taks have a bit more of the vintage softeness

    This lens is an excellent performer all round. It complements the Super Takumar's 50mm f1.4 and 85mm f1.9 I sold the 55mm f1.8 in favour of the Auto Takumar 55mm f2.2.

    Thanks Marco. This tiny lens is a good performer indeed, mostly for landscapes and city I would say. It is tiny and easy to carry. Compared to Takumar 35mm f2 it is very different. It offers better corners and has its own advantages. The 35mm f2 is better for closeups of course.

    • @MarcoAries
      @MarcoAries  Рік тому +1

      Yeah, as you say it's very portable and suitable for just walking around in the streets or in the nature, without the annoyance of carrying around a big expensive lens!

      @stevocem Рік тому +1

      @@MarcoAries Yes, and during those walks with a bit slower and humble lens the focus is really on framing, on content. And that’s a good thing.

      If you stop down to 3.5 on the 35mm F2, are they pretty similar?

    • @stevocem
      @stevocem Рік тому +2

      @@heroaomedia I tested them both on chart. The f2 version has consistently worse corners up to f11. Of course at f8-f11 the f2 version is ok, but never 100% across the frame, while the f3.5 version is pretty good at 5.6 and perfect at f8, f11.

    As this is f3.5, How is this Takumar lens for night shoots/ outddors night photos? What ISO is (typically) needed if shooting photos or video at night? Thanks

    • @MarcoAries
      @MarcoAries  7 місяців тому

      Well, that varies a lot depending on how dark it is, but it would be the same as every other 35mm at f3.5. There could be some variation between different lenses, but it's marginal.
      Also, depends a lot on the shutter speed. You could shoot at iso 50, if your exposure is long enough.

      I'm not familiar with the camera, but if it uses the M42 mount is should be compatible. Hopefully somebody here in the comments will be able to tell you more precisely.

    Bought this lens more than a decade ago for my Canon 5D (Mki), it has beautiful colour and was sharp but unfortunately will not focus to infinity on the 5D Mk i and Mk ii, and I believe the 6D. Its rear element protrudes into the camera box on the EF mount and snags the mirror. It is a well known problem now and of course those cameras are also long in the tooth. I do not believe that it has any issues with mirrorless cameras so offers good value for someone wishing to fit it to a full frame. In my early days (before I became vintage) I used to shoot Canon FD lenses and had FD 35mm 3.5, it too was a good little lens.

    • @MarcoAries
      @MarcoAries  6 місяців тому

      Yeah, adapting to EF can be annoying even when possible, few mounts can be adapted and even those can have issues.
      Mirrorless is the way to go for those who want to adapt many different lenses.

      @MarcoAries basically. It is a nice lens also, but it has less 3D pop. Some dude did a comparison of all of the Pentax 35mm lenses awhile back - think it is on UA-cam.

    The Takumar 35mm F3,5 is a good lens. Shot on a digital camera with the crop sensor it will give you almost 50mm . It will be almost like a standard lens.
