Great work Big Stan! Thanks for sharing all that, Stanton! I’ll never forget the time Adam and I stopped by the house you grew up in to get some T-shirts, and we helped your mom and dad move your old baby crib up to the attic after it had been returned by a relative who no longer needed it…your mom and dad were so nice and obviously super proud of you!

Fantastic man!The crazy thing is that I started playing little later at 17, but I actually found a dowel rod in the basement and cut it in two and was beating on some coffee cans and that Christmas my Mom and Dad got me a pair of Pro Mark sticks as well!At first I liked the dowel rods better, but I am using real sticks now.
Dowels! They were like these little magic steppingstones to drumsticks. Keep on using real sticks my man! You’re doing great work! 🙌🏼

First of all- growing up in NOLA as a drummer is just unfair to the rest of us mortals who grew up elsewhere lol. Secondly- Russel hammers that thin line between loose and tight (which equals NASTY- the nastiest ever if you ask me)- in addition to insisting on doing something else such as eat a sandwich or have a full on conversation with someone while he plays live- Russel to me always sounds about to fall apart but he's never even close- he's NASTY. I love your take on how solid your fundamentals have to be to tread that line . Mix in the Smiths shirt, the Mongoose, the CB700's (my first set too) the roto's, the teachers telling you you're horrible after years of dedicated practice and once again you dropped a masterful video that gave me chills, smiles, and a good laugh or two. And of course it makes me want to practice more because the diddle will never break 200 bpm by itself (if at all lol). Thank you!

I had the same experience with Mr Hurley auditioning me and kicking me into beginner band when I thought I had chops. He was right. I warmed up next to you at his funeral drum line send off in the soccer field. RIP Marty. Thanks for keeping his legacy alive.

The drumlines are the only reason to go to Mardi Gras.
So cool how similar drummer's beginnings really are. I started in 6th grade, played in marching band, got my first drumset at 12 and really took a love to it that has lasted for over 40 years later. You don't become a drummer, you are born a drummer (Nicko quote I believe).
I definitely believe I was born a drummer, just took me a bit to get rolling! 🙌🏼

Went to see Galactic play a show at the Varsity in Baton Rouge around 2000 and got to meet Stanton. He was friendly, cool and laid back just like his playing style. His drumming has been a big influence on my own drumming. I really appreciate him taking the time to talk and autograph my ticket. Thanks so much Stanton!

You were super fortunate to have great teachers and be surrounded by that NOLA environment. I had great teachers as well, a junior high band director/bad-ass drummer named Edward Balsamo, who is still playing :) He had two kits in his office and was giving us stuff he learned at Berklee with Alan Dawson. NiiicccccE!!!!

I was recently in New Orleans and found the local music scene to be seriously lacking. Maybe you could do a video on the current music scene there? I know there are seated, theater shows, but where do you go to sit and listen without it being a ticketed show? I'm assuming my experience was due to a lack of information. Used to go to Frenchman, but it was as bad as the Quarter this time. Any inside info is appreciated!
I hear you. The Bayou Bar in the Pontchartrain Hotel is where is Bass player Peter Harris has the gig. It’s four nights a week and he always has amazing musicians with him! 🙌🏼
