Your way is super hard as you gotta place yourself exactly to the millimetre where you are. And you do it so fast. It's hard to time it right. And when I have done it I shoot her. And she still throws the bomb and kills me. Wish you showed another method where you ain't gotta be milinete right in like 1 second timing. No way is this easy way. Thanks foe your video. Cool guide! I finally got "Big Boss" yesterday. The only part I really doubted it was when watching Emma with the sniper thing. I kept restarting if she was spotted even though (I can 100% confirm) you do not need to. I should have figured out that sooner since I had "game over if spotted" turned on - but I didn't connect it in my mind. I am an average gamer at best, so if I can do it anyone can. Even the Metal Gear Ray's which I thought would be brutal - really wasnt! You get the pattern eventually.
24:49 I've beaten this game about 30 times in my life and never knew you could do the groin punch like that....insane. Awesome guide looking forward to trying it tomorrow
If anybody was having trouble at the harrier like I was (I was hiding behind that metal box during the Gatling gun part but somehow kept getting shot) it's actually pretty simple when that sequence happens just throw on your cardboard box and stay on one side (start left side) and whrn the starts maneuvering around do the same and run to the other side with box equipped you dont get touched
Tanker was the only chapter I ever was able to clear on EXTREME with total stealth, but Plant always felt like a nightmare. I used to watch the METAL WORKS THE PERFECT video you had up to study techniques bit by bit, but this honestly makes getting the Big Boss run so much more manageable.

And alternate way to do the Vamp fight that is more or less the same method, is the hanging rail at the top of the room. It's much safer to hang from instead of accidentally slipping off, and if you are good enough at it you can even skip saving this fight.
Thanks for making this. Although I have some notes for people. Some areas its okay to take extra caution. For example, in the tanker guard fight. Before triggering it shoot out as many bulbs down the hallway as you can, this makes it alot easier. I also stay behind the first box too. When there's a pause before the last 3 guards i actually stand up and position myself to the left of the box so its basically a straighter line to headshot the last 3 guards. They do not fire usually unless theres a clear line of sight and whilst a guard is falling unconcious in front of another they wont attack until hes down which gives you enough time to line up the next shot. There's M9 ammo in the bar area in deck a crews lounge, aswell as under the second set of stairs in the Engine room if you feel like you might not have enough for the guard rush. When you reach the Plant. Before activating the first node take the time to move at least 2 guards into the lockers in the first room. I recommend the guard in the corner and the one nearest to the lift. Do all 3 to be sure if you need to. It doesn't waste that much time. Get the Thermal goggles too for the next tip. The EF connecting bridge is absolute hell. On the first visit i REALLY recommend tranquilizing the binoculars guy, shooting the cyphers and using the thermal goggles to pick up all the essential claymores on the bridge. Trust me, youll thank me after fighting fatman. Take a little extra time shooting cyphers with the Socom instead of spraying with the AK. The bullet count may help difficult sections later. Fatman can be a bullet drainer for example. Contrary to this videos suggestion, do not save when you regain control of raiden in arsenal gear. Instead get to the Tengu fight and then save. This part was the worst and not having to redo the whole snake approach and time "training" with the sword will make you slightly more sane. When fighting solidus. For the first phase do the Vamp strat where you fall off the ledge and pull yourself up when he gets to you and punch 3 (with a pause i between so you dont knock him over) times and repeat. On phase 2 to get to a corner but leave a few meters behind you for space and just hold block. Adjust yourself to be facing him if he does the speed boost stuff everywhere but then just wait for his combos to end before doing your own. Very simple. If he charges with his shoulder. You can attack. If he swings with his sword, he usually follows up with another Attack or 2. If he does the lunge with the sword its safe to attack after this. Doing all of the above still made me finish with a time of 2hrs 17mins which left me plenty of time still.
Thank you so much for this video. It's awesome. But for the beginning of the plant section, it is soooo much easier to just directly go to strut F and pick up the m9. Saves a lot of trouble for all the other struts you have to go before. It makes you lose 1-2 minute of time maybe but it is worth it!
@@Alfredo.Taboada you're welcome. Punching the soldiers' balls in extreme requires timing and precision and those guards aren't patient or dociles! Getting the m9 is the safest, most efficient way of beginning the plant.
Awesome! Thanks for the guide. I found your channel right when the Master Collection came out, and just wanted to say I've really enjoyed the content. 🎉🎉🎉 this is with no doubt the most detailed, well played and easy going trophy guide I’ve ever follow for sure. I love collecting trophies and this has been so far and by much the most challenging plat I ever gotten but also the most satisfying one. MGS has and probably always will be my fav saga and even when I played dozens of times it’s games I’ve learned new moves and stuff with your guide. Can’t express how thankful I’m for you’re amazingly well accomplish work you’ve done here, hope you have the guide for Snake Eater because once I’ve rest enough I’m gonna get that one. Cheers!
Hi. I forgot to thank you and your guide. I achieved this rank like 2 or 3 months ago and i just wanted to say that it was the hardest challenge that i ever tried in a videogame. I needed almost 70 hours just for this trophy and this video was a totall lifesaver. Now im trying Foxhound rank for mgs3 and it seems much easier as Sons of liberty so im still watching your video. This was specially harder for me because Master collections version of mgs2 was the first mgs game that i ever played and getting Big Boss rank was just incredible. Thanks.
The torture sequence after the Rey fight in the original ps2 release was ridiculous on EE. You had to spam triangle a hundred times a second for like 15 minutes 😂😂😂
For anyone struggling with triggering the missing Olga bit in the fight: Wait for her to toss a grenade, then while she's doing it go back to the ammo box again until she grunts. Then go back to the spot described in the video. You'll lose seconds but you'll get back into the loop if you didn't open it up right
I put this on as a background/future knowledge for the trophy UA-cam video, and I swear as soon as the Rays started doing that roar sound I had flashbacks of being a teenager and playing this game on my PS2
@@megacatliveagreed. MGS1 was extremely forgiving while MGS2 was extremely unforgiving. MGS3 was probably the best when it came to “challenging yet very doable” ranking.
Dude, I've been watching your videos and I must say, you are incredible at all of these Metal Gear games. My wife is going to pick up this collection for me for Christmas and I will definitely need your guides when I try for the platinums!
YES!!!!!!! Just did it! Really grateful for the guide, really awesome content! It's been years since i played MGS2 back on the PS2, i think i was never able to pass from Tank chapter when i was a child. After my first playthrough and now doing Big Boss Rank it was awesome seeing the improvement each try. Can't wait to play through MGS3 and then coming back here for another guide! Thanks for the help!
Thanks so much for this guide, it's a bit faster than another one I found that was old footage. I've also got to Vamp about 12 minutes quicker than with the other strategies. You're the first one to do a guide that isn't European Extreme.
I've been playing the Metal Gear series since 1998 and only just decided to go for top ranks this summer to platinum the games in the Master Collection. This guide and the one for Snake Eater have both been enormously helpful in getting me past some trouble areas, and I just got Big Boss rank in SoL today. Thanks for the help, brother.
I loved this guide, I jus would like to comment on the tengu room number 1 the glitch key is to hold til Raiden make his kick (meaning when Raiden is making half of the kick and he is in the air you could see his head close to camera when you release r1 and l1). so in that moment you can release r1 and l1, I just wanted to say it because first 10 times I couldn't get the glitch and realized later about the timing. I hope this helps somebody cause I struggled quite a lot XD .Thanks for the guide very useful
Currently gotten up to the Fatman fight, died twice so far but I've been having trouble since the beginning 😂 Fingers crossed I can make it to the end! Thank you so much for the walk through! 🙌
Dude, u r our savior. I get the bigboss on MGS1 and i will get soon the MGS2 with ur guides. Thanks you so much, hope u'll do it with mgs4 at the release of the master collection v2 ❤
This my first time seeing a guide for this, brother, I was playing thinking I needed, 0 kills , no alerts and no saves, I set the bar to high, and now I feel relieved God bless
I managed everything in MGS2 when it first released in the UK. Even had the demo from the PS2 Offiical Magazine. Played every Metal Gear since then including the twin snakes. Had the HD collection but mainly because of peace walker as I never had a PSP. Some of these strats are even better than the Piggyback Official Guide (but the artwork of it was amazing). Going to use some of these when I do this.
You missed one important tip: if possible use dualshock1 instead of 2 so you dont have analog in every button, help a lot in "tiptopfingerstand". Great tutorial for great memories on MGSForums Leaderboards with Adnan Kauser and other great speedrunners. PS - during harrier fight you have invincible frames when you pull up from hanging during "flair attack"
this guide is great, you're an amazing mgs2 player and you explain things really well, however i think sometimes you should offer some more information about the area, for example, some of the connecting bridges have guards checking from upwards and if you fck up the timing just a little bit you'll get caught and therefore have to restart a 20 min long section, btw you can also put the first 3 plant guards in lockers before interacting with the nerd so they don't wake up at all, therefore eliminating the need to save before them. still you're helping me a lot and you give really good strats!
Thanks for the guide!! By the way! If you don't press any button during the first torture, your resistance runs out but it doesn't hurt you, and to free yourself from the torture machine a little sooner, you can call Rose, since you have to wait for her to call you and speed up the process
Thank you for this detailed guide! I was struggling to hold up the 4 guards in Hold 2. An alternative method that worked very consistent for me was holding up only the soldier right next to the big box (the center one) then moving behind him, waiting at the next box for the guard to pass you and roll right behind him straight into the metal debris ahead. Finally you can run freely to the exit to hold 3 (no need to hold up the last guy).
For the solidus boss fight : During play i thought timing was kinda random, then I got a call from Otacon who told me "dont go front, use the side Solidus lost his eye". I think that in order to make solidus throw his parry every time, you should only give him the 2 blades hit on his good side, so that he parries them. Awesome guide btw, thanks a lot
Thanks to a combination of mainly this guide and a couple of others for some bosses I have finally gotten the Platinum trophy for this game! Fatman was by far the biggest obstacle for me! Thanks for such an amazing guide!
I want to thank you so much for this video. After watching it 2 and half time I was able to achieve big boss rank on this brutal but amazing game in 2 days of try from start to finish. I was tense during the ending sequence for an eventual blackout(it was raining very hard outside with thunder, haha RAIDEN stay CALM) and for the secret scores like mech destruction and caution not sure it was 0 for the start of the plant. Thanks again the video is amazing iven if i had to improvise sometimes as some tactics and advanced manouvers didn't work for me ( for example i picked up the silencer for the socom as in shell 1 escape during caution think didn't goes as Planned and smooth like you so i had to destroy the 3 camera on the right corridor from the elevator). Im so happy, when I defeated solidus I could not believe that i did it and start to panic during the Credit roll...😅😅 Now I can finally join all of you as Big boss too
Finally after a few weeks, I’ve got the plat!!! I re did Emma Sniping so I can make the save just as the tengu 1 started.. I think Fatman was the hardest of them all, maybe ray a close 2nd, but after learning the l1 lock for fatman it made life a lot easier! You’re a big boss man, thank you so much!
Recently finished the MGS2 Big Boss run for the first time, in large part thanks to this guide. Only pointer I'll make for others, I found getting the two Tengu fights on one save VERY hard and what helped in the end was using an older strat for the second stage. As soon as it begins, punch a Tengu in the bottom right and grab him in a chokehold then drag him to the lower left corner of the previous room and keep releasing and grabbing him until he passes out. This should cause the second fight to end as long as Snake doesn't die. I found this a lot easier and more consistent.
I saved once before each boss battle during MGS1, and multiple times during the later game sequences like Sniper Wolf and METAL GEAR REX. It was 1 1/2 memory cards, I believe.
Maybe 80 in MGS1 was a typo and it was always meant to be 8. 80 is to the point it may not even exist at all - which is odd considering the other requirements are much more challenging.
@@PerfectStealthCan you answer me HOW THE FUCK DO I STOP SNAKE/RAIDEN SHOOT!!! Everytime I run and AIM to guards they freeze and then get shot. HOW IN THE GODS NAME!!!!!
For the Ray fight, count to 5 for calculate his recovery timer then shots, that's gonna help you a lot to know when to shoots for the trick shot and avoid getting oneshoted by the laser. For Solidus first phase you can fall into the cliff and get back when he become blue, u will never take damage on the first phase and make the fight way easier (work only for phase 1)
This may be a long comment but I just want to say, thank you so much! I did it! I beat Solidus and I literally screamed "Yes!" over and over 😂 I never thought in my wildest dreams I would ever do this on Extreme but thanks to you I did it. Thank you so much again, you're an absolute legend! 🤘
In the strut D sediment Pool on Master Collection Extreme Difficulty, the stair bomb is on the bottom floor next to the DE connecting bridge door above you. I love your videos, maybe mine is bugged or something? but it was in a completely different spot.
I have been struggling a lot at the start to Fatman portions of Plant, but I think I can pull it off once I deal with Fatman and don't mess up Shell Core 1.
@@PerfectStealth Yup, tough for sure, but I had dealt with frustrating situations in the past, and MGS2 Big Boss rank is not going to be any different.

Great video 👍 got yourself another sub, my only complaint is I started a new game on a completed game save and still couldn’t skip the bomb disposal tutorial 😮
Just now have been playing the Tanker for the past like 3 hours or so mainly because I couldn’t get the Olga fight to go my way, passed it once then died at the guard rush, passed it twice & the game locked up on me after defusing the lasers. Finally got through it & reached Stillman with your first recommended save & my time so far is just over 19 minutes. Pretty stressed out over that but I think I’m making good progress, really want to move on to MGS3 but also do t want to move on till I platinum MGS2. Also if I may add just for the elevator part to make it super easy with the unconscious guards you can put them in them lockers back near the spawn area, might add on like 2-3 minutes but I think that’s super safe compared to the strategy you provide. That came off super complex & I didn’t want to risk it especially with Olga being so problematic.
Update on my progress, I finally achieved Big Boss rank & platinum’d MGS2, highly grateful for your channel & your content. This guide though has been 80% helpful as there are some parts where I went to other guides & sometimes incorporated my own strategies. Also I feel this guide is more of a Big Boss speedrun guide rather than just a guide to obtain Big Boss rank because there are much more safe strategies at certain points at the cost of time. IMO the 3 hour limit is pretty generous as I still completed my run maybe just 2 minutes over 2 hours.
I agree with you. This guy goes very fast and when I try to keep up with his pace I fail again and again and again. Things started to move forward when I slowed down and did some things my way.
For Olga, you don't need to risk it just for a few m9 rounds. In the very first locker room, tranq the guard and you can get 9m ammo on one of the lockers. Much safer and it doesn't even get out of the way. There's also more ammo by the liquor area after the locker room (which you should get after the Olga fight).
I tend to always make my first save during Fatman, and my 2nd save right after you find Ames (before Harrier)! I figured out during my big boss play through, right after that section with Ames you are put into automatic caution status, however, if you reload the save after the ames part, you are no longer in caution for some reason. (first time playing mgs2 ever this year btw and loved it)!
I got it!! Thanks for the brilliant guide. I had to adapt it a little to suit my play style but I never would have done it without you. I also made it even harder by saving it after the Harrier fight. Having to beat 20 Ray's, survive the torture and then defeat Solidus was harder than getting the Platinum on the Last of Us 1!. I also used your guide for MGS Snake Eater to get the Platinum on the PS4 and 5 version. I hope you make a guide for Metal Gear Delta when the time comes.
Huge pro tip for those struggling with Fatman. Make sure you lock on with him using L1 for auto-lock. Took me 20+ deaths before figuring this out in the Reddit comment section lol. Also, amazing job Perfect Stealth! Currently at my sixth save and struggling with the Tengu glitch. My saves so far... 1st - End of Tanker 2nd - Fortune 3rd - Fatman 4th - Harrier 5th - Vamp 6th - Arsenal Gear
That cqc trick at the end has to be the hardest part of the run! Between getting shot and dropping my stuns and getting shot/stunned during my kick animation, Im loosing my mind
Man i died on Fortune. Everything that could have gone wrong went wrong. Had rythmn down, but stuff fell on me, barrels blew up, fire caught barrells when at them and quick Cs came up when I was in the middle of area so I didn't have enough space to keep moving for both her shots..
Every time he says "it looks hard but is actually really easy" , in normal people language it means "it looks easy but actually is really insanely hard"
I’m just attempting this run and somehow thanks to your guide I managed to make my first save at the start of strut F during bomb disposal. After many failed attempts tho 😂
it took me 9 and a half (non consecutive) hours to get thru tanker and make a save at Strut A :) I'm not giving up now, I'm so relieved to be grinding Plant. I'm gonna keep it up and hope all other stuck gamers will too!
I've been trying to get the Big Boss rank in Metal Gear Solid 2 for three days straight. I followed all the requirements: Played on Extreme difficulty with radar off. Finished the game in less than 3 hours. Didn't kill anyone (0 kills). Didn't use rations. Didn't continue after dying. However, my result still shows that I got the Fox rank instead of Big Boss.

Yeah, eight saves is really hard. I agree that MGS3 had the best balance of allowed saves.
@@PerfectStealthand my god congrats😭 bis boss rank in mgs2 is the hardest rank/ trophy compared to all mgs games for me
@@megacatliveagreed. MGS1 was extremely forgiving while MGS2 was extremely unforgiving. MGS3 was probably the best when it came to “challenging yet very doable” ranking.
@@freddymcshreddy6586 ended up getting it!! 3 times too : D
Dude, I've been watching your videos and I must say, you are incredible at all of these Metal Gear games. My wife is going to pick up this collection for me for Christmas and I will definitely need your guides when I try for the platinums!
Appreciate the kind words! That’s an awesome gift you’re getting! I hope you have fun going after the platinums!
It’s my pleasure! Good luck with the rest of your run!
@@PerfectStealth Thank you, the sniping part is hit or miss, but I'll get it
Fantastic guide/strats!! Thank you for the help 😎7
Thank you for checking out the guide! I’m glad you found it useful! Good job getting Big Boss rank 😎
Just got the big boss rank and the platinum thanks to this guide, thanks stealth 😁
Congrats!
Just completed the 100% for this game thanks to you. You've earned a subscriber, as they say. Thanks for the guide!
Finally got Big Boss today. Thanks a lot, this guide is awesome.
Thanks Boss! Never thought I could pull it off. Trickiest part for me was Tengu 1/2 (Only had 2 stuns lol). Onto the MGS3 Guide!
You've got this!
Thanks! Metal gear rays fight was a kick in the nuts. I did the A05E loop trick😂
Thank you so much for the support! Glad you got it done!
I still remember Adnan Kauser too, great times!!
this guide is great, you're an amazing mgs2 player and you explain things really well, however i think sometimes you should offer some more information about the area, for example, some of the connecting bridges have guards checking from upwards and if you fck up the timing just a little bit you'll get caught and therefore have to restart a 20 min long section, btw you can also put the first 3 plant guards in lockers before interacting with the nerd so they don't wake up at all, therefore eliminating the need to save before them. still you're helping me a lot and you give really good strats!
THANK YOU SO MUCH MAN 🙏 I just got it and I used all your recommended save spots, this was truly an experience
Great guide! Even though I already achieved Big Boss Rank I’ll definitely be using these strategies provided in this video for my Steam run lol!
Wow, if that actually is a mechanic its incredible that a 20 years old game has that detail.
@@lautarocardozo5214 after finishing the game I can confirm it's 99% more consistent on the good side
EXTREMELY great guide for big boss rank. “Not game over” in options didn’t make sense to me until I payed attention
Thanks to a combination of mainly this guide and a couple of others for some bosses I have finally gotten the Platinum trophy for this game!
Fatman was by far the biggest obstacle for me!
Thanks for such an amazing guide!
You and Masked Matador were the only reason I was able to get Big Boss. Thanks a ton and subscribed!!!
Im so happy, when I defeated solidus I could not believe that i did it and start to panic during the Credit roll...😅😅
Now I can finally join all of you as Big boss too
Finally after a few weeks, I’ve got the plat!!!
I re did Emma Sniping so I can make the save just as the tengu 1 started.. I think Fatman was the hardest of them all, maybe ray a close 2nd, but after learning the l1 lock for fatman it made life a lot easier!
You’re a big boss man, thank you so much!
Man, I wish you streamed more. Love watching.
I’ll try to go live more! I just don’t want to neglect making videos!
After many years of struggling with the Big Boss rank, I finally have it thanks to you. You got a sub from me, now onto MGS3! :D
Finally did it. Would’ve been impossible without this guide. Thanks!
Only eight saves...dayum, at least MGS1 let you have like 80 😆
Yeah it’s definitely rough! I think MGS3 has the best limit at 25. MGS1 allowing 80 saves is too much, haha!
@PerfectStealth question does the timer still continue when you are in pause?
@@PerfectStealthCan you answer me HOW THE FUCK DO I STOP SNAKE/RAIDEN SHOOT!!! Everytime I run and AIM to guards they freeze and then get shot. HOW IN THE GODS NAME!!!!!
Thanks for this guide, I started my run today.
For the life of me I cannot beat Fatman, got to him really easily, but cannot keep up with him and ends up blowing up the platform each time.
cool video stealth, good pointers too, now I know which video to come back to, to pass MSG2 on hard or extreme, your video stealth, Peace.
Thank you so much for your work! I finally got Big Boss yesterday thanks to this guide.
Awesome guide! I'm doing a first play through now! What's sad is I beat this on PS2 and honestly I don't remember all this game been years!
I love your videos, maybe mine is bugged or something? but it was in a completely different spot.
same here. not sure why, i'm on pc master collection extreme, maybe it differs if this guys playing on console?
I have been struggling a lot at the start to Fatman portions of Plant, but I think I can pull it off once I deal with Fatman and don't mess up Shell Core 1.
Bomb disposal is tough for sure! You’ve got this though! 💪🏼
@@PerfectStealth Yup, tough for sure, but I had dealt with frustrating situations in the past, and MGS2 Big Boss rank is not going to be any different.
Fatman used to drive me nuts! Until I figured out how you can auto-target by holding L1 when you chase and shoot him then he became a breeze
Just got big boss rank thanks to this guide, absolutely goated 🙏

Just got the platinum, wanted to say thanks for such an amazing guide! Absolute grind, but finally!
Just got Big Boss rank thanks 2 ur guide. Thank u sooooo much!!!!! Ur a legend my friend!!!👍
Lifesaver dude thanks for the video
Glad it helped!
Thank you brother, you saved me from eternal suffering by this game. May God bless your soul
Every time i watch a video ending with a Big Boss rank i always play the mgo2 victory song
Finally im done with that run, thank you so much for that awesome guide! Im waiting to the plant normal to plat the game. Again, thank you.
It's a great guide!
Thanks, man 🙏
Thank you for watching and leaving a comment!
Great video 👍 got yourself another sub, my only complaint is I started a new game on a completed game save and still couldn’t skip the bomb disposal tutorial 😮
Thanks a lot for this guide!
My pleasure!
Looking forward to trying this out. Thanks man!
My pleasure! Good luck on your Big Boss run!
The toured sequence is so hard and i keep on dying from it
I tend to always make my first save during Fatman, and my 2nd save right after you find Ames (before Harrier)!
I figured out during my big boss play through, right after that section with Ames you are put into automatic caution status, however, if you reload the save after the ames part, you are no longer in caution for some reason. (first time playing mgs2 ever this year btw and loved it)!
I'm glad you had a good time with MGS2!
I did that for my pacifist/no alert run. Didn't have time for that bs. Can't wait to do my BB run, I'm saving that for last.
You’re amazing bro! Thanks for all the help!
Great guide man. I want to do this so bad but haven't completed MGS2 since 2013 😂
Thank you! I’m sure you can definitely get big boss rank if you were to try!
1st - End of Tanker
2nd - Fortune
3rd - Fatman
4th - Harrier
5th - Vamp
6th - Arsenal Gear
Thanks man I appreciate the effort and it'll help alot!
It’s my pleasure! Hopefully it helps!
Thank you man, I will catch this one later to get my last trophy
It's my pleasure! Good luck on getting that last trophy!
14:34 The advanced maneuver called the groin punch. Oh time for some guard ball battering
Every time he says "it looks hard but is actually really easy" , in normal people language it means "it looks easy but actually is really insanely hard"
I keep getting destroyed on EF connecting bridge. Done Fatman like 20 times now. this run is brutal.... Got to the Harrier now, wish me luck!
I followed all the requirements:
Played on Extreme difficulty with radar off.
Finished the game in less than 3 hours.
Didn't kill anyone (0 kills).
Didn't use rations.
Didn't continue after dying.
However, my result still shows that I got the Fox rank instead of Big Boss.
Extremely well done! Bravo!
Thank you, you made possible getting the platinum❤
