    I've beaten MGS2 dozens of times over the past twenty years and I only just completed it on Extreme for the first time a couple years ago. It was so unbelievably difficult and every single time I thought I had gotten through the hardest part it kept getting exponentially harder. Even after doing it myself I can barely believe that 20 Metal Gear fight is humanly possible. The fact that people can achieve a Big Boss rank with such absurd additions on top of that brutal difficulty will never cease to amaze me. Anyone who has done so is truly above even the Boss

    • @stormmeansnowork
      @stormmeansnowork 8 місяців тому +1

      Yea, getting through the Extreme difficulty alone is a nightmare, let alone those saves and shots restrictions. The best I could do is beating the Hard difficulty and the furthest on the Extreme that I got to were the RAYs (for clarity, I fell at that point). It's not just the RAYs that I am frustrated about, but also the fact that I had a hard time doing the first torture, so it makes me wonder if I would even got through the second one after the RAYs should I made it through. Overall speaking, I have never ever made it through any MGS game on Extreme (but am tempted to do that on MGS1, now that it is clear that it allows special items), but boy, the target for MGS1 is of course the platinum trophy which requires you to finish the VR missions. Ah speaking of VR missions, I have finished it once before (except for the ninja missions which I did not have access to over a decade ago), but having watched how others played the MGS2 VR missions, I know I have better ways to spend my time than getting the MGS2 platinum......

    Mgs2 best tip for plant chapters beginning. Drag all 3 guards to the lockers in the first area. And for fatman just run after him and dont let him do a thing(if u chase him all the time, he barely has time to place one bomb or even activate it). U can also just bully fatman for free after defusing the first bomb, second one does not need to be defused immediately(u have time).

  • @serpico59
    @serpico59 8 місяців тому +1

    I must say that I have the platinums of the entire saga, I have the platinums of the PS3 versions of MGS2 and MGS3 and in those versions MSG2 was the most difficult since you had to complete the game 100%, that meant completing all the Snake Tales, getting all the Dog Tags, which already forced you to play on all the available difficulties except for the European Extreme, which although it was not necessary to get the Big Boss rank, I still remember that it was too complicated a challenge, but I did it. What was most frustrating was completing the 500 VR missions, of which some were too shitty, like the first-person missions that didn't fit very well in a game that was designed to be played in third person or the sniper missions protecting a target , I did all that and it was the hardest thing for me in the game. With the new Master Collection I must say that for the Big Boss rank it was indeed a difficult challenge but I already had the experience of having played before on Extreme difficulty to get all the Dog Tags, and I also had already mastered all the mechanics of the game due to having completed all 500 VR missions previously. I feel satisfied that I achieved the Big Boss ranks in Metal Gear Solid and MGS2, as I had never tried before, as well as the Foxhound rank in MGS3, which I had also never tried. The only game where I had to get the Big Boss rank mandatory to get platinum was MGS4: Guns Of The Patriots, which although it was also a great challenge, I still considered the platinum of MGS2 (PS3 Version) much more difficult than that of MGS4. Now with this new version in the Master Collection I think MGS2 it is still the most difficult in the saga so far, of course, if we do not take into account the platinum of the spinoff Metal Gear Rising which would be the most difficult in general.

Now i really want to, but the thought of time restraint alone is enough to hold me back from starting. Overall, i love a challenge but when a time limit is part of it, it stops being exciting for me almost entirely. I remember how tough the Rays boss fight within arsenal gear was on the extreme difficulty when i did it for the platinum on PS3 back in the day. Pretty sure that part took me 30 retries or something. Imagine the stress of me rushing to get there in the first place lol.

    I finished all MGS in a big boss/fox hound rank. The most difficult is MGS 2 without a doubt.
    Bonus: MGS V S rank all missions is very doable. The most difficult would be Extreme Back-up Back down probably.
    4) MGS 3 - Easiest to do a fox hound run. 5 Hrs is very doable and the motor bike chase is much more doable than MGS 4. The bosses also have an easy way to deal with save for the pain and/or fury.
    3) MGS 1 - Easiest in terms of stealth even with Radar off. However, Boss fights can be challenging along with the forced encounters with kill limit being low and no actual non-lethal option. Twin Snakes is way easier for big boss run though.
    2) MGS 4 - Unlimited saves makes things easier along with 4/5 hrs gameplay. But the motor cycle section is just frustrating. and Ch 2 accidental kill can be tricky.
    1) MGS 2 - This is just another realm of difficulty. I finished my big boss run with the option "gameover when spotted" which apparently is a mistake. The Alert won't happen until the call was made but with "gameover when spotted" prevents any reaction. The boss fights are just too tricky and the MD/Bullet limit makes things even more difficult. My big boss run is 4 Saves, and 2:55 hours. Almost failed to do so. And I nevwr attempted to the same thing again.

    I've been playing MGS my whole life. I played MGS1 in 2001 for the first time and started following the franchise since then with every installment. But I started doing the Big Boss challenges way later. I believe the very first time I did one was on MGS1 around 2007 or 2008, then I did MGS3 and eventually I did MGS4 after release. But MGS2? I never ever even dared to try it, the whole thing intimidated me. I rather did MGS4 once again when the trophies were added.
    But then the pandemic happened, and I had an urge to replay all main 4 MGS (MGSV? Replay? What is that?) and said to myself "Why not? Why shouldn't I finally do it?" and started doing Big Boss runs for all 4 of them in order. MGS1 was as hard as I rememberd but doable. MGS3 was the easiest of the bunch, not too hard. MGS4 was alright except for the Bike section, like I always remembered, still harder than MGS1 just because of that section. But MGS2... I had to plan ahead. I prepared my save points, endured a lot of suffering and frustration trying to come up with my routes and the bosses strategies... To eventually and finally do it. I got the rank. I was done. I could rest. I hated the whole thing and said to myself I'd never attempt to do that run again.
    But then... The Master Collection happened. And the Platinum asked for Big Boss Ranks on all games, even MGS2. I didn't want to do it. I DREADED even thinking about it. But I took up the courage once more and decided to take the challenge. I even had my old save points data on a spreadsheet and my old times per save point to have a comparison. And guess what? The second time it was a blast, I had FUN doing it, FUN! What the hell? Even the dreaded bombing sections, particularly Strut E I enjoyed, since I was on a mental state of "I'm just doing a very long VR Mission" and was having fun planning my route and approach. I ended the run with high hopes of eventually doing it again sometime. Am I crazy?
    My save points were 1. Plant Beginning, 2. Pre Fortune Fight, 3. Post Fatman Fight (Yep, I rather do Fortune and Fatman in a single run than save before him, I hate that guy with a passion), 4. Post Harrier (going back to the Harrier after dying isn't that big of a deal to me), 5. Post Vamp Pre Emma PSG1 Section, 6. Pre Tengus, 7. Post Tengus/Pre RAYs and finally 8. Pre Solidus.
    Most boss fights are awful, but doable. Even Olga. Even Fortune. Fatman was the most RNG-based. The Harrier was a beast and dreaded fight, specially the first time, but after some pattern recognition and strategizing is completely doable, during my second time I did it in very few attempts it surprised even myself. But the rest...
    With Vamp, the first time I did it was my most dreaded boss fight of the game. But the second time I did it, I got given a godly advice that made the fight a cakewalk and the easiest of the game. When Vamp comes to the platform for you and runs towards to stab you, you can equip the Nikita and press Circle to hit him with the weapon itself, which has a ridiculously high hitbox, deals a good amount of stun damage to Vamp and makes him retreat and go down the pool. With that the fight went by like nothing.
    The Arsenal Gear part with Snake was frustrating. I did it legitimately both times, and the first section is by far the worst, since Snake tends to just push forward and die. The second part? It's an easy walk, since you can equip the H.F. Blade on non-lethal mode, press L1 to block incoming fire and just stun the Tengus with the blade while Snake kills everyone else. In the second part Snake won't die, at least he didn't for me ever, since here if you just keep running in circles while blocking, Snake will probably kill most of the Tengus.
    The RAYs are... The easiest fight for me. When I fight them I literally enter "the zone", a mental state where I can keep doing that indefinetely until they are dead because I recognize all their attacks and know what to and what not to do. Love them.
    And Solidus was a pain the first time, specially his missiles attacks. The second time I discovered (maybe rediscovered?) that I could block most of his attacks and the fight was easy. I remembered from my first run that I could dodge the missiles while slipping on the ledges of Federal Hall.
    All in all, Big Boss Rank is something to be earned, it's a challenge, and the ultimate way of experiencing any MGS. In terms of difficulty from hardest to easiest: MGS2 > MGS4 > MGS1 > MGS3.

    I was totally unaware you were allowed to save at ALL in any of the MGS games and still get big boss. Omfg! I always thought it was without saving. I once made it from beginning all the way to fatman AND defeated him without saving once. Then the next area I was spotted and screwed it. I tried to get it on both first and second game. If I knew I could save 8 and 80 times I would have definitely got it!

    Could just be me, but I recently 100% the whole franchise, and I had the most trouble with E-Extreme Snake Eater. MGS2 felt relatively easy in comparison. IMO it's due to the fact that MGS2 allows for pauses to not count towards game timer, MGS3 is the only game where once you're playing EVERYTHING adds to that timer, even being paused or loading saves.

    WOW!! I thought this was about MSG 3 or something...definitely not MSG 2. I played this as one of the last games I played during my Junior year of High School...and I can with certainty I had ZERO problems getting the bandana/camo for Snake, the wigs for Raiden, and getting my muscle strength up to the highest level for both characters. How was this game hard at all, like seriously? There were hard games I played as a kid that were unfairly hard due to nonsense like hits that knocked you into pits...Castlevania and Ninja Gaiden come to mind first, haha. But ya, I didn't find a single thing in MSG2 hard by any means. I thought MSG for PS One was so much more difficult. Also...have you played Lion King for SNES or Genesis? Because THOSE are f'n hard games without a doubt, and anyone that was 5-12 when it came out, you know exactly what I mean. So ya, I can only assume you're a kid and are like 26 or 27, and didn't play NES/Genesis games growing up. That's why you think this game is "hard"...you never played Battletoads, Smash TV, Contra, Ninja Gaiden, Castlevania, Lion King, Bug Bunny's Birthday Bash, and so many others on the earliest systems.

    • @Matt_19-89
      @Matt_19-89 Місяць тому

      No MGS game is really hard if you know what you're doing, I mean ffs if DSP has beaten MGS2 anyone can, but that wasn't the point of the video in the first place, like at all, this was about what game is the toughest if you intend to get the Big Boss rank, there's a big gap between playing these games casually and perfecting them, if not him, then trust me on that.
      Also, sidenote, that absolute insane level of difficulty in old Nintendo and Sega games you're describing was born out of necessity more than anything else, they all came in the awkward transitory period between Arcades and home consoles, it was none other than a holdover to artificially inflate the amount of content those games really had.
