I really can't do any of the things you do with The Pain.. it feels like mine is behaving differently. For example, it takes about 7 shots with the M37 to take out his bee armor, he dodges 4 or 5 in a row before I can hit him (yes I'm doing the tactical reload) and he never stays for more than 1, maybe 1.5 seconds without the armor. Am I doing something wrong? I've been trying for 3 days now, I've spent maybe 20 hours trying to beat him... Do you have any other advice? Is there any trick to do him more easily? Thanks
Use grenades instead of the M37. There are additional grenades underwater that respawn if you run out. Just go into first person view with them and throw directly at him. If you use a grenade when he does not have bee armor, the bees will bring the grenade back to you, so only throw when he is armored. The Pain and the Fury were the two bosses I struggled with the most, so I definitely feel your Pain (pun intended).
Thank you! I finally made it!!!! You're an angel. Btw I followed your collectibles guide before this and it was AMAZING!! So now I'm struggling a bit with The Pain because he seems to take different roads than yours, so I'm trying to figure out how to sneak on him, because I'm only able to follow him but I don't know the area well enough to know where he's going to be. I'll be back to ask you advice if I get extremely frustrated again 😂
He tends to run to the the nearest available sniping spot. If you use the directional microphone, you can aim it around and listen for his breathing. Also, since you followed the collectible guide, you know about where his bird is. If you capture the bird alive and then release it in an area, the bird will fly to him calling out “grandpa”, so you just follow the bird to him.
I made iiiittt thank youuuuu 🎉 I hope it's gonna be downhill from now on. I made a mistake though... I saved after beating The End but I was afraid I'd taken too much damage so I remade it and saved again on the same slot, but I'm an idiot because it still counts as a save. So I'm gonna have to skip one of your (perfectly placed) next saves to sacrifice for this. Ahhh np, I can do itttt and thanks again man. You'll be in my heart forever. I'll be seen as a magician from my friends when they'll see how good I got at this beautiful game 😎 and then send them this video ofc 😁 Ah also I LOVE your voice (no matter how frustrated I got, hearing your voice was soothing ❤️) Ahhh another p.s.: the parrot is not in the same place in extreme difficulty, it's slightly on the right, it's facing The End but if you crawl you can catch him unseen.
European Extreme is exactly the same as extreme except if you alert the game ends. So it's a time saver really since you don't want to be seen for Fox. So if you play European Extreme and mess up you don't have to quit out or die just hit exit when seen.
Excellent guide. I was getting so trolled by escaping Groznyj Grad constantly that by the time I finished it, for some reason I thought Foxhound rank was 3 hours and under/20 saves and thought for sure the run was dead... until I looked up the requirements again lmao. Thanks man!
Hey man I just achieved this rank thanks to your guide. Did it on my first run too. Was a pretty scuffed run. Had to constantly reload saves. But, my final time was 2:15:46. I just wanna say thank you and I wish you all the best!
You're a legend mate, I've been doing blind playthroughs on normal then going over to your guides to do the bigboss/foxhound ranks. Currently up to the End on this walkthrough.
You’ll have a much easier time with the end if you follow this strategy, but everytime he throws the stun grenades you distance a bit and equip the ak47. You chase him while spraying it and he stops long enough for you to whack him with the butt of it then cig spray him again
Hi again! I just got that plat and thanks to your guide. I don’t want to make it sound wrong but it wasn’t as hard as I thought it’d be considering the hell it was getting the plat for MGS2. But definitely it wouldn’t be that fast to get if it weren’t for this amazing work you’ve done. Except for the part when you scape the torture everything else went exactly as you mentioned. So once again thanks a lot. God bless you
Great job! It did take me a while to figure out that torture room escape because it’s so tricky, and I’m glad you figured out a method that worked for you too.
Took me an extra hour from taking a few things slower (The Pain being one of them), but I finally reached Foxhound at 9:30 this morning with 22 saves. The Legacy Collection doesn't have a trophy for it, but I have it saved regardless. That was some journey.
On ps2 you got duel mode, it was a must back in the day to learn how these boss fights worked, not sure why they never added that mode into the master collection.
Thanks! I managed to do this with less than 19 saves and an extra 40 minutes!! Everything was super easy except The Pain and The Fury, those two took me like two hours to beat. Now i wish MGS2 was like this 😢😢😢😢
hi matador thats the platinum achieved thanks to this video i checked a few out and som were saying to do whole runs on extreme or euro and i was not having it found this and its been a cake walk thanks to your help. one thing i noticed to help save some health was against shagohod on the runway if you just spam rockets he never shoots or rams you at all and it takes a good chunk off for the boss fight. for the bit on foot vs shagohod phase 2 i just shot rockets at his right foot sniped him in the head as he looks right repeat was very fast. Also i had 25 saves aswell following exactly your count so definitely do not do any extra that arent in the video!

for that krasno tunnel/ladder scene if you have the moss camo on and no equipment on you can actually recover a lot if not all your stamina as you climb
Thank you so much for these incredibly detailed and easy to follow master collection guides. Thanks to you I have been able to platinum every single game with ease. I feel like so kinds of legendary mercenary now. Cheers and can’t wait to follow along many more tutorials of yours. Keep up the amazing work!
I finally beat the Pain 😭😭😭 Took me a year to undestand the patience. I could spend 2 hours diving and getting up and no problem. All the other guudes just give u some ridiculous god reflex speed runner techicques. I took a good 10 minutes but I beat him slowly. I was desperate because the ridiculously small hit box but eventually I only got hit once in that 10 minutes. It was the bullet bees when I unfortunately climbed back up at the same second he summoned them. Thank you ♥️♥️
I think you make a really good point about the speed of this fight and the need to be patient. The whole Foxhound Rank is pretty generous with how much time you have to complete it, so you can (and should) take your time with this fight. I tried to do those same perfect aim and timing tricks, but I think it is much better and more consistent to take your time and do it safely rather than as quickly as possible. I'm glad the guide helped!

what about stamina and cure? I have now defeated the Fury, and noticed that I have treated wounds and eaten food many times. There are no past saves. Tell me, will it affect the rank?
@williamrichardson5388 There is a limit of eating 25 meals, but if you need to eat the much, you’re probably going too slow for the Foxhound Rank to apply anyway. You are correct that using even one Life Medicine will ruin the rank, but using the cure menu in the survival viewer to heal poison, broken bones, lacerations, etc. is fine.
Ok there is some way by chance to make The Pain no use the feromones? If you choose I like MGS1, Snake will lose stamina at a slower rate during the Virtuous Mission. If you choose I like MGS2, Snake will be wearing the Raiden / Raikov mask during the opening cutscene and the name in the upper left corner will be different until you get the backpack in the tree. If you choose I like MGS3, it unlocks the Demo Theater, European Extreme difficulty, and certain beneficial face paints and camos with bonus effects.

Could anyone maybe help me understand what I'm doing wrong? Whenever I try to sneak up behind The End in the South area for his camo, he's always lying down and it makes it harder for me to hold him up.
You need to be really close to him. Use the directional buttons to slowly stalk-walk toward him and get right behind him. I’m not sure if you can hold people up while crouching (I think you can), but that will get you even closer to his body and make the holdup easier.
hi quick question if anyone knows. I beat the fear but forgot to pick up the camo and saved in the next room. I went back to the previous save and beat him again and got the came and resaved over save 9. With the game remember the other save? Thanks in advance!
Go back and reload the previous save. If you have even 1 continue, you can’t get the foxhound rank. By reloading the last save, the game forgets about the continue.
That would count as a continue, so you don’t want that. Don’t save the game. Just exit out of the game and then reload the last save. The game won’t remember the continue if you do that.
You can take as long as you want to on this fight. If you need more grenades, there is a box underwater that keeps respawning if you run out, so keep chucking grenades at him, tranq him in the head or chest a couple times, dive back in the water and repeat. It took me a ton of tries to get it. This fight is more of a marathon than a sprint. Stick with it!
That would be taking enough damage to go from full health to dead ten times. Let’s say the Ocelot fight brings you down to 1/2 of your health bar left. You took .5 life bars worth of damage. Then you heal up naturally over time and the Pain drops you to 1/2 health again. In total, you have lost 1 life bar (.5 +.5). You can’t lose a cumulative total of over 10 life bars worth of Snake’s health throughout the game. This is actually a very easy requirement to complete because we don’t get into fights where we take damage outside of bosses for the most part.
No, pausing does not stop the in-game timer. The best way to get around that is to reload the save. Luckily, the game isn't too long, and I try to break it out by sections, so if you can more or less memorize what to do in an area, you can load up the save and play through that section until you hit the next recommended save spot.
Thanks for watching this guide! Timestamps are in the description, and please let me know if you have any questions!

That would be taking enough damage to go from full health to dead ten times. Let’s say the Ocelot fight brings you down to 1/2 of your health bar left. You took .5 life bars worth of damage.
