Its been a while but when you fight Metal Gear Rex in Metal Gear Solid immediately start running to the bottom right corner of the hanger and press up against the pillar, he will look for you but miss you, once his back is turned fire a rocket, he will be alerted but by the time he turns around he will have forgotten your location, rinse and repeat and you can beat him without loosing health. This can work for the second phase of the battle but is a little more tricky as your target is smaller.
Thank you so much for this. I could never beat this game on EU-E because Olga. Maybe now I can do it. Probaly one of the hardest MGS games on the highest difficulty.
I actually beat the PS2 European Extreme Solidus choking part a few times. No tricks. The key is to keep pressing rapidly enough, but not too rapidly because you will tire more quickly. With a good enough rhythm, you won't tire and you can hold onto your health. If you just start spamming the button like crazy as fast as you can, you can't keep it up for long and you're dead.
The best way that works every time for me, in both mgs1 and 2, is to rake your first finger across the button left and right. Every tap counts as 1 press, but by doing this, left and right count as 2 presses
Just use the ball of your thumb and jirate it. Peace Walkers shock torture was way worse for me because the fuckers messed with you psychologically that time and mapped the button to triangle when the entire series you've been conditioned that the torture button is circle.
I'm very happy to see someone giving the mechanical aspects of the MGS games some love still. Your guide is straightforward and very informative, good stuff! MGS2 is my favorite game of all time, so much so I've done a few casual speedruns of it, which I've uploaded. I can share some other good tactics: - On Olga, if she comes to the right side, and the goes back to start her "I grew up on the battlefield" voiceline, you can shoot right before she says it, and it will confuse her AI, she will stick her head out to look at you, and then take cover. As soon as she gets to cover again, shoot her in the head again. Repeat. She dies in about 5 shots. - You can shoot Fatman with the M9 on his foot, and for whatever reason he falls down instantly, allowing you to pop another 2 headshots quickly. Guess his feet are weakened from sustaining his sexy body and trenchcoat. - On Vamp, you can actually make that an infinite. Punch him but never complete your combo. Delay your third hit so you can keep punching him instead of the double kick. He will try to knife you, dodge and repeat. He will never go back to the water. - This one is a glitch, not an exploit, but on the Arsenal Tengu fight you can bypass the first section by flattening yourself to the door, going in first person and doing your melee combo. As soon as you see your kicks go out, let go of first person button, and you will clip through the door. Manage your stun grenades well and you can beat this section in 30 seconds. - If you stay a certain distance from Solidus after knocking him down, he will always do the missile attack afterwards, which you can cartwheel through and punish him.

Man on the ps2 I got 2 where solidise chokes you on European extreme... So damn close 2 the end. I had no idea u had 2 hold on for a bloody minute. Great video 👍👍👏👌
Also on the Ray fight you can intentionally make it do the water cutting maneuver and get a hit in while it's engaged. There's a few steps though: You have to be running around the Ray close enough to make it engage the lazer but not so close it steps on you. Watch it's chest/belly telegraph when the water Lazer is coming. As it reels back be running around the Ray in a circle, then, as it lungs forward to fire you somersault. Sometimes you can just keep running and dodge it but the somersault timing is more reliable on E-Extreme. Toggle the stinger and fire! Sometimes you may be directly below the ray head so firing may be tricky. Also, keep an ear out for beeping from the missiles coming from outer rim Ray's. This strat puts a lot of eggs in the dodging basket but I found it to be more consistent than trying to dodge the knee missiles.
Lol I still remember completing it on European Extreme on PS2 with other friends. One of them did all the stealth parts, while the other one did all the boss fights (including the "torture", which was just INSANE on the original version), and they were stuck on the final boss fight with Solidus. So, I went to my friend's house, after beating myself beat the game on Extreme difficulty just hours before, just to FINISH THE FIGHT and I killed Solidus on the first try! It looked like if our football team won the world cup :D What a day!
is it bad that i'm the type of stealth game player who reloads his save every time he gets caught outside of forced combat encounters? especially in the older MGS games?
Denzel Rozier You wouldn't be trying to give yourself a bogus score using some ingenious trick would you? That's just about as low as anyone could possibly stoop! I can't believe you sometimes...
Dude i used to get so frustrated, i never got further than the choking scene on European-Extreme, and got mad thinking that was because i was european or something, like they had it way more easy xDD 45 secs is just insane, wtf. Nice vid.
Actually Vamp is even easier to beat in the water room. You hang into the water and jump up when he tries to slash you and then get a two hit combo like in your video, but instead of following up with a three hit combo that will knock him into the water, just stand next to him and he will go for a slow slash again so just run around him and do two, two hit combos and he’ll slash again so just avoid the slash and two hit combo him some more and repeat until you’ve beaten him
I’ll never forget watching these videos when I was younger despite never touching a metal gear game and absolutely running through the bosses throughout the series because the only knowledge I had of the games were these easier boss videos lol
Damn I remember this Solidus torture on ps2 on Extreme difficulty. It was so fuckning exhausting because you had to keep pressing it like ten times per second for more than half a minute.
8:31 Or an even easier, albeit kind of cheaty, way to clear the first tengu section is to make it all the way up to the door. Face away from it, go into first person view then do Raiden's full punch-punch-kick combo. Since the kick in the combo pushes Raiden back for a second it will push you through the closed door for only a moment, but just enough that Raiden touches the transition trigger. And voila! You have skipped a kind of annoying section! I haven't tried it on the HD edition, but it probably works there too. Works on the original PC port of Substance though.
Indeed. It instead was made by someone who actually cares about Metal Gear like this guy, and not one that consistently hates on Kojima every now and then like he does.

@Otacon464 did it with the middle joint of my thumb, which is now numb and useless. Never again
Otacon464 because yes
Man, MGS2's graphics were very ahead of it's time. Classic days
Excellent. Age hasn't slowed you down one bit.
It...it actually might have sped you up a bit.
Dude I've been waiting on this! Glad to see it's here
7:32 had me dying lmfao
Man on the ps2 I got 2 where solidise chokes you on European extreme... So damn close 2 the end. I had no idea u had 2 hold on for a bloody minute. Great video 👍👍👏👌
To pass Solidus E.E torture on PS2, I had to use a Turbo controller... Got lucky Ocelot wasn't paying attention
yeah but how but ur giving solution for those 6 useless piece of shit overpowered ray on normal difficult.. cuz i been stuck for 3 month from now on
Also on the Ray fight you can intentionally make it do the water cutting maneuver and get a hit in while it's engaged.
Great vid George! Very enlightening.
Damn people are still into these games? They were my favorites as a kid. I'm very happy with it's current meme status.
Fatman got killed by bombs
OOOOH THE IRONY
Lol I still remember completing it on European Extreme on PS2 with other friends.
One of them did all the stealth parts, while the other one did all the boss fights (including the "torture", which was just INSANE on the original version), and they were stuck on the final boss fight with Solidus.
So, I went to my friend's house, after beating myself beat the game on Extreme difficulty just hours before, just to FINISH THE FIGHT and I killed Solidus on the first try!
It looked like if our football team won the world cup :D What a day!
7:34 Vamp goes "Arrgghhh.Arrggghhh" LOL
Love the editing. That box trick saved my ass on fortune!
"K I L L M E P L E A S E"
-Fortune MGS 2
Fatman on European Extreme took me 1 full year of attempts. I'd come back to it every couple weeks. By far the hardest boss of the entire game for me.
5:18 "Vamp! Go!" "Ha!" "AAAAARGHHHH!!!"
The edits alone make the video totally worth it.
is it bad that i'm the type of stealth game player who reloads his save every time he gets caught outside of forced combat encounters? especially in the older MGS games?
No.
Denzel Rozier You wouldn't be trying to give yourself a bogus score using some ingenious trick would you? That's just about as low as anyone could possibly stoop! I can't believe you sometimes...
yes
Dude i used to get so frustrated, i never got further than the choking scene on European-Extreme, and got mad thinking that was because i was european or something, like they had it way more easy xDD 45 secs is just insane, wtf. Nice vid.
I used the turbo controller for the torture on both games sorry :(
Cuts are too funny. Hope you do more of these similar videos
9:07 hardest I've laughed in a long time
Damn you basically have to master the game before tackling extreme wish me luck 🙏
"i'll let you go out in style!"
Lol you're quite the character! I enjoyed this more than I should've xD
Ok how about the hardest boss of them all?
Konami.
Terryl I fuckn wish.
Ah, "The End" strategy
1:38 "I'm not exaggerating when I say the success of my mission hinges on how I use the cardboard box"
I love how arisen just yells bullseye when he shoots vamp
10/10 editing, thanks for making this!
Damn I remember this Solidus torture on ps2 on Extreme difficulty. It was so fuckning exhausting because you had to keep pressing it like ten times per second for more than half a minute.
seva809 if you press button too fast console tends to halves your input and then every second press will be missed
Good to know. Thanks for the info.
seva809 no problem. Found it in a hard way so I don't want people snap their fingers doing this pointless work
@WilkTheMasterStalker : Snap fingers or even worse - break the controller.
seva809 I think I only broke one. Maybe 'twas Demon Souls and soul sucking Old King Allant that I was fighting with broken dodge button
17 fucking years later and this game is still amazing.
1:43 No just keep getting in and out of cover with a handgun for invincibility.
Thank You,Boss! I'm Recently Playing MGS2 and I made it to the beginning of the "Plant" Chapter
"Fatman contacted US" "NOW! BULLSEYE." I laughed so hard the first time I heard that.
I passed E Extreme mode back in 2011. One of the most difficult challenges I ever gave myself. Especially that Ray fight. . .😬
The Best MGS2 Playthrough : The Trailer
This is more than a guide, it's fucking hilarious. Really well made.
I think it’s kind of hilarious that Olga’s 9mm USP is a one shot kill but Fortune’s railgun and Harrier Strafing runs aren’t. Lol
Despite of what most of you might believe, this guide was actually NOT created by DSP
Indeed. It instead was made by someone who actually cares about Metal Gear like this guy, and not one that consistently hates on Kojima every now and then like he does.
This is the funniest and most comprehensive guide I've seen for MGS2, amazing job on the video!
"After 10 minutes of Snake enjoying all the killing"
had me rolling 😂😂
These videos are both informative and hilarious.
7:30-7:42 is the funniest shit ever lmao
I was just expecting a cool boss guide and instead got Metal Gear Solid 2 Abridged
I never had watched a boss guide as entertaining as this
How do I defeat the *3 bosses* in mgs5 easily?
umm, could someone enlighten me about it? I guess I've forgotten a lot since I played that game.
You Shoot the shit out of them
BRUH......Where was this video when I needed it the most???
This would have been great for when I did my extreme run years ago.
I had to figure out the solidus loop the hard way and I didn't realize ledges had invincibility frames until the Solidus fight.
I didn’t even know this at all. How lame was I hahaha
Except for the tengu phase, ive knew about every single trick and tips you suggested.
Great minds think alike.
