I just changed mine in a 2002 Suburban Z71. I did not remove the torsion bar like here. Once the ball joint bolt was clear of the hub assy, the control arm tilts down and has no pressure from the torsion bar, so the control arm is then wiggled out of the frame and slid off the torsion bar. You do need to back off the torsion adj bolts. But that is all. BTW, I did this out in the parking lot at my apartment, and I'm 64 years old. Also means just hand tools. The drive axel needs to be removed on 4x4s. If I can do it here, you can manage it in your garage.
I did it on my 2003 Tahoe with my dad like 5 years ago and didn’t take the torsion bar all the way out...came back to this video to do it on my 2003 z71 suburban and was like wtf I don’t remember doing all of this 😂 thanks for the personal anecdote !!
hello there - i had the same set up on a cadillac 06 escalade esv but i just took out the tension out on the 18 mm bolt attached to tension bar/ key way (mark it with paint for adjustment) and disconnected the lower control arm fasyeners then by separating it from frame and then i slided forward - and it came out nicely 👌 thanks for the video 🎥

Finally get a video that I was looking for that doesn't have struts instead of t-bars. Guess 1A Auto wasn't cutting it. Great job like always great videos even with 1A Auto!!
You do not need to remove the torsion bar, however, i did have to remove the upper control arm ball joint as well as the tie rod to enable the lower ball joint to come out easily.
Did you guys change the bolt length on the sway bar links you sell? I just installed your 10 piece steering and suspension kit on my 04 2wd tahoe and I maybe have 1/4-3/8” of thread sticking out where in this video you have 1”+ did I not tighten mine enough maybe? I torqued them down but it is really old so maybe not calibrated correctly?
I have done all this on both sides, the driver side end link was tough to put on and now the passenger side will not go on. Did I not adjust the torsion bars/lower control arm correctly?
I did when I changed my torsion bars about 4 years ago. I placed a bit of anti-seize on the ends to make future removal easier. A little dab on the corners won't hurt.
+Usman The Mechanic This procedure might be different for your application. We do not currently have a how-to video for this particular year, make and model. Thank you for asking! 1aau.to/m/Shop-TRQ
Worse part of this job is torsion bar removal. A hammer drill rental from Home Depot does the trick but without the truck in the air the front end will drag on the ground if you don’t finish the job.
man i seriously wish i had the brains u do. i love mechanic work but i just dont get it i can get the stuff of but then i dont know how it goes back hahaha so many steps FML.
There's no reason to mark \ put the axel back in the same place. it is where it is. It would be good if you cleaned up and painted the torsion bar and surrounding areas. That drives me crazy to leave everything rusty and nasty. Also, if you pull the axel out too far, the inner bearing will come outta place. Then you have to pull the rubber boot back to aline the inner bearings. Tiz a bitcha nasty job.
Your Volume control on these videos is horrendous, have to turn all the way up to hear his voice then get your eardrums blown out by every tool and tap and noise his tools make. How annoying lol

This channel makes me want a garage lift so bad

Tank you for the video, can you please advise the c clamp tool needed to remove the tension.
Thought it was gonna be hard to do. You made it seem simple. 👍

The guy speaking is at mouse volume.... meanwhile, the tools are at "my wife found out I spent $1000 in all new front end parts" volume...
good job master 👍 a question for all the work you did how much do you charge???
I love living in Arizona all my bolts slide off ,thank god for no rust here
Thanks! Got to do that to my 2001 2500HD pickup. Looks like the same parts. Very well done.
+Ric Robinson Thanks for watching. Buy the part in this video on 1AAuto.com: 1aau.to/m/Shop-TRQ

hello thank you for all videos, i want know about size of fork separator
Looks like it should be a similar job on a 2WD GM SUV, just skip the axle removal. 👍
Does it really matter if you put a mark on the CV flange or not?
No
How many hours should each lower control take to remove and reinstall?
What’s that tool called you used when you got the torsion bar out
great video thx I dont think I will try this one from the ground since I have no lift I will take it it to the pros
how would i know if it’s my lowers that need to be changed?
or possibly just the sway/ stabilizer bar
Will this video apply to a 01 2wd Silverado
My torsion bar isn’t connected to my lower control arm directly so I shouldn’t have to do that part right?
*Can you put Anti Seize on the Torsion Bars when it slides into the Key hole and Lower Control arm Hole?*
I did when I changed my torsion bars about 4 years ago. I placed a bit of anti-seize on the ends to make future removal easier. A little dab on the corners won't hurt.
When I tighten the torsion bar key, the front suspension (upper/lower control arm, etc) lowers all the way down.. what am I doing wrong?
Exelente y muy profecional. Lo haces mirar facil. Gracias saludo. Exelente video tambien
Well done 👍
Now I see what I am doing wrong.
Is this a similar process for an Escalade of the same years?

Is it the same for 2 wheel drive?
+Angel Benavides Yes the process will be the same on 2 wheel drive models!
Why did you take the keys out I just did mine on 05 avalanche all I had to do was loosen the bolt take the pressure off
I need to do this on my 02 avy. I just need to loosen the key bolt???
Do you know the part number for the shock/control arm bushing?
+Ty Scott Thanks for watching! That is not something we carry separately, it comes pre-installed on the new control arm.
Try k6658
@tyscott
Typical, the most difficult part of the job is dealing with that torsion bar, living in New England I just hate dealing with them.
you dong have to dealing with that Part ....just change the lower arm bushing and change the upper bar with all the Kit and I think you will be ok
Thank you
Does this lower control arm fit to the 99 Chevy Tahoe 4WD anybody kno ?
What’s that dang tool called you used
+Elijah erhart General Tools
Center Punch
Floor Jack
Hammer
Wheel Chocks
Torque Wrench
I have to do that to my plow truck.
89 in. Ilbs?
Dang.... everything yall show in regards to chevy front ends are 4x4’s ...
