It amazes me how many people are complaining about the UK version. We should be grateful that there are 2 versions of this series. You aren't forced to watch the UK version so if you're unhappy quit bitching and don't watch this version at all
I actually quite enjoy the UK version. It's much more subtle, less "drastically" and less "WOW factor" , which brings up the tasting experience closer to the viewer. I love the Stevadamrew original tho. Don't hate me.
Afternoon tea is a traditional British meal. On that basis, I'm going to have to say I'm more attracted to Lucy's Tearoom. It's traditional, its got heart and soul and is in no way pretentious. The others, whilst looking good, were distortions. They felt cold and void of any soul and rather pretentious. I don't doubt that they tasted nice, but I'm inclined to go traditional all the way.
@@benanderson89 True that! If a cafe/restaurant etc is created around a concept of being "insta friendly" then that just goes to show how shallow they are. To be completely honest, who on earth would pay those prices anyway?
based on its origin, afternoon tea is a rather pretentious meal. It was made by an aristocratic lady to snack between lunch and dinner. Also the point of having triple tier platings was to show off. If at home or something more traditional, people will just go for cream tea, which is just the scones and tea. And yes, in London the average afternoon tea is around 30-50 per person. It is a treat, and usually people go there for birthday, anniversary, or other celebrations.
Lucy's didn't really serve a traditional afternoon tea though. The dessert part is usually an assortment of small delicate pastries and tarts, not just 2 huge chunks of cake. Same with the sandwiches. She served thick, sloppy sandwiches that looked like a child made them, instead of thin, neat tea sandwiches. Don't get me wrong. Everything looked like it would taste delicious and I'd be thrilled to have a friend serve me that at their home. None of it looked like a professionally made afternoon tea though.
I liked both Lucy’s and the Sanderson Hotels versions. Sketch just seemed off and too expensive for tea. I find Lucy’s quaint since it looks so cozy and homey while SH just looks fun since I think of afternoon tea being about having a little fun.
Here we go again, another ignorant person insulting British food. Afternoon tea is a meal which consists of cakes, sandwiches and tea. That's significant different from tea itself- a drink which comprises of many varieties.
Doesn't matter where it's comes from we've been drinking it for years, it's as much part of our culture as it is China and India... not to mention we drink it very differently from them!
Even so, you cant say tea isn't a British thing because of where it was invented. It's like saying burgers aren't American because they were invented in Germany
No they don't. The UK certainly don't anyway, sure we like them but it's not the culture. I'm explaining that despite somethings origin being from one place it doesn't make it not part of another countries culture. In this case tea
Actually think it’s great that there’s a UK version of this! Always loved the American version but as someone living in England, I always thought it would be pretty cool if I could try some of the places. So this is great for me!
1. Yes, you are absolutely correct. That flower song is from Alice in Wonderland and it's actually the flowers singing. 2. Lol at all the non-UK people who don't know about afternoon tea (I'm also not from the UK). It's fun to learn something new (and a better thing to mess up than not knowing the different slang meanings for rubber and pants).
greeneyedtrombonist well, I think the confusion stemmed from them having tea based on Alice Through the Looking Glass, which was not animated or musical and starred Johnny Depp. That Mad Hatter's tea was served at a release party for the film. And so I think she was thinking of the live action versions (which have no singing), while he was thinking of the original Disney Animated version (which was a musical, but released in 1951).
I love how I am not the only person who knew about the singing garden of flowers in the Disney animated Alice in Wonderland. I also know that name of the song as well. It was "Golden Afternoon," which was chosen by the rose because all the other flowers were arguing about what song to sing for Alice.
Being from the UK, but living in America, watching these shows is so great. I love all the sly humor - you don't get that in original worth it, just puns.
I don't condone your patronising tone. Next time you call me on the phone, I might not pick up and pretend I'm not home, so you'll be feeling all alone. Before you know it I'll be gone because whether you think it's a scone or a scone you'll find I won't be around for very long
reading these comments I dont know why it's so hard for people to understand tea and afternoon tea are not the same video.... it's like you guys are purposely being dense for the sake of argument

Though a lot of comments say otherwise, many Americans understand the difference between a cup of tea and afternoon tea. Many places in the US offer it similar to what they had at Lucy’s. High-end hotels like the Ritz and Plaza have them, too. I’ve also been to it at the Empress in Victoria, B.C. In London I went to Fortnum and Mason and the Orangerie at Kensington Palace.
ItsCham And once they kick u out because people get bored of the show, what will u do? Don't get me wrong their job in Buzzfeed is great but not really that secure since only certain people are needed for certain tasks and each team must have atleast 2 different races of people by Buzzfeed's policy which limits possibilities. So yes doing what they do is great but once the show ur in gets cancelled it's really hard to get on new one and if u don't have everything planned ahead ur pretty much fked up... I want to try that Mad Hatter afternoon tea. The most worth it afternoon tea in Scotland is the cafe at Merryhatton Garden Centre. I don’t even have a garden, and I eat there all the time.

i love the uk worth it team. you guys get to eat and drink so many things i can't have access to T.T but it's nice to live vicariously through other people.
I had a really nice afternoon tea at the Milestone hotel in Kensington when I was there on holiday just this past May. A bit pricey, but it exposed me to my top favorite tea , milk oolong. It was divine and so was the food, especially the sandwiches and the scones. I wanted to eat the clotted cream and the jam by the spoonful but I resisted. So good! I want to go back to England.
Not for 21.50, but I can recommend you the tea for 29,90 (for 2) at Richoux! It's at Picadilly and it was amazing! I was there a few weeks ago :-) It was really worth it.
