    So funny that M & S was your last pick. We are from the U.S. and only had 3 days in London. I told my friend that we couldn’t leave without having afternoon tea. I told her we should try M and S. They were sold out but the waitress could tell that we were from America and we were so disappointed so she put a special tea together for us. Can’t wait to go back.

      You’re so smart for trying M&S! Their cafe is so laid back and such nice workers. They were friendly with us at two locations on our last trip. I’m glad you were able to have tea. I think they sell out of scones first, but they may have the rest.

    Tea time is typically your meal arriving home from school or work. At least, it was in my area, northeast England.

    Great video as always. Loved that you explained the difference between afternoon and high tea. Pet peeve of mine! One note - we were at the Ritz for afternoon tea a couple of weeks ago and for men it's jacket and TIE. They probably have extra loaner ties if you show up without one, but I just thought I'd mention that. Loved this video!!

      @YourGuidesAbroad  4 місяці тому

      We would hate to see Americans get shamed for calling Afternoon tea, high tea! lol Thanks for sharing the tie requirement! They probably want to see dress shoes too. As we like to pack light, it doesn't make sense to bring a jacket and nice shoes.

    You only add milk first if it’s a pottery cup, they are the ones that break on sudden impact with the heat. China, bone chine is more resilient to heat, it’s always tea first, milk second. I’ve never drunk tea with milk. It’s always been lemon or sugar. But I loved that you twist the scone. We never cut bread products, they are always broken. Bread rolls are the same.

    Hello! I have a trip planned this Christmas to London and Paris. I only have three days in London but I keep hearing it’s not safe. I’m not sure if all that I’m reading is true. I was thinking of actually skipping London and just going to Bath instead. I’d love to hear your thoughts?

    • @YourGuidesAbroad
      @YourGuidesAbroad  Місяць тому

      It is safe. Very safe. When we lived there the only thing you’d hear about Christmas is home breaking as thieves knew no one was home. Visiting is safe. In fact, I did a midnight bike ride with a group at Christmas as it is quiet and peaceful in the city.

    thanks for explaining the Teas!!!! I was on a cruise with some friends from Leeds and they took me to afternoon tea...when i was given the scone I went to bite it and the face of horror on both of their faces with a head no shake...so I set it down and cut it and then went to eat one side and they shook their head...and then explained..the creame or jam first..and I said what if I did half and half? HA..

    The very 1st afternoon tea was served at Langham London back in 1865.
    Low tea = afternoon tea was for high class people served in a formal setting . High tea = meat tea ,was for lower class /servants to eat standing during a dinner break .
    Royal tea is a fancier afternoon tea w champagne. 💜🥁🐉🎤🎶💞

    Thanks for the info. I'll be in London soon. One thing: it's unlikely that Anna Maria Russell invented afternoon tea. Google "Why The Duchess of Bedford did not invent afternoon tea" to see why. If anyone has a claim on it, I suspect that Catherine of Braganza has a better one. (Also, the 4th Earl of Sandwich did not invent the sandwich, but that's another story).

      Thanks for sharing! We will look into that in more detail! We have heard that with the Earl of Sandwich. Erica worked for the Viscountess of Hinchingbrooke when we lived in London. Her husband is the future Earl of Sandwich. They have a great UA-cam channel!
