For those of us who can remember, we very nearly lost this building altogether......there was a period of decline. In 50s and the 60s when I worked nearby, it was in a sorry state. It was used as British Rail offices leased by the BBC who owned the building then. The bombed part had not been rebuilt. Thank goodness it was rescued with megacash and reopened in splendour.

Several years ago my sister and I went to high tea at the Drake hotel in Chicago which was a total delight. Delicious sandwiches and sweets in luxurious surroundings that included music by a woman playing the harp! I highly recommend it if you get a chance. FYI: Americans use the term high tea for what the British call afternoon tea. Our - American - use is actually incorrect in that we think “high tea” sounds more formal and elaborate than afternoon tea but the background for the terms is this: afternoon tea was started by an Aristocrat who was hungry long before the evening meal would be served so she started the tradition of eating small sandwiches and sweets in the late afternoon to tide her over. High tea was the term used for the working class meal that they ate at the end of a long day of work. The name came about because of the height of their chairs and the food was a regular meal. Since so many Americans go to London (at least before Covid!), and look for high tea, there are many places that use that term knowing that’s what Americans are looking for.
My first afternoon tea was at the Allis in chicago. It was fantastic. I've since gone to some in philly, and DC as well, and some smaller places near my and my hometown. Had afternoon tea there in 1999. If it is half as good as it was then. I can only recommend it. The ambience probably adds to the taste. A big round of applause to a very hard working team. Disappointed the guests didn’t really dress for the occasion as I always feel that adds to the whole experience.

I have to share something dear to me... My Aunt Helen Harry (from London) taught me Proper Tea when I was young back in the 60s. When I lived in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (US). Fast Forward... a few years ago... we were putting on a Shakespeare Play "Midsummer Night's Dream"... I help raise funds for the High school play I would do "Afternoon Tea"... My budget was $500. for food to make the Proper Tea... After the first night... People were coming back to buy a Ticket just to get the "Afternoon Tea" and Desert... We sold out every night... to the point, that the last night... everything was sold out and the ACTORS didn't get very much to eat... I had to make more. I made all the deserts by hand... baking way into the earlier morning hours... It was such a delight... So much fun... I have never been so tired in all my life... (Laughing)... I am now an Acting Director... hoping to when I move back to Albuquerque, New Mexico (US) to reopen my Acting Studio for Stage and Film... I really want to have a Mystery Dinner Theatre...and on Sundays, an "Afternoon Tea' with desert... Thank you so much for being so kind to share this delightful video...

Christopher Couture Acting Studio In the Summer we will have Acting Camps that will also put on a Mystery Dinner Theatre. I used to have a little Bistro (I might have already mentioned that) it was called "Mama's Kitchen" (everything made from scratched).... So here I am 68 years young and I want to put them all together... "Brava Darling... Brava"
I loved this from start to finish. The fine attention to detail can make such dining an exquisite and exceptional experience akin to being transported for a time into an other world of beauty and gentility. In my younger days (forty years ago) I worked in a florist shop that serviced the Sheraton Palace and other grand old hotels in San Francisco, California and I delivered arrangements of flowers into those beautiful dining rooms. I was so delighted to see the lovely floral arrangements throughout this video that contributed to the ambience of the tea. I hope that the success of this tradition continues, for we need those special moments to remember as we make our way through a world in which it is increasingly rare to have experiences of carefully crafted beauty such as this.

I have several friends who live in London. They prefer this establishment over Claridge’s for the afternoon tea experience. They adore the furniture, and intimacy of the room and the exquisite personal service. These are THEIR words not mine. I will just have to go after seeing this!! Thanks so much for posting this!
On a very normal day we experience scones with cottage cheese and cranberry jam alongside biscuits but on some special occasions or even on some Sunday's when all our friends and family gather for a toast and some booze here and there but it's good to have something like this pastries, tart.. Certainly a worthwhile experience to have once in a while or at least once in a lifetime .. Custard cream always caught my heart and soul and it's not too heavy as a matter of fact which is wonderful, and for the sweet tooth chocolate and fig makes it up, what I can say about the tea it's just so soothing relaxing.. Just a sip is enough to mesmerise, forgot all the clumsiness in the world and just enjoy your tea and I'm certain of it that you'll experience the best afternoon tea you have ever had
Oooh yes. I'd be in this for the price. Extravagance pure but there's nothing quite like eating history. And enjoying the surrounds...what an experience. ASAP.
On my wishlist. I love afternoon tea. The best afternoon tea I've ever had is at the Collonades in the Signet Rooms in Edinburgh, just behind St Giles Cathedral. London, go to Langhams to try this, but if anywhere near Edinburgh, try the Collonades, truly innovative and delicious.

Remarkable reintroduction to the tradition of Afternoon Tea at The Langham. I didn't have a chance to visit your establishment when I was in London for the late sovereign Queen Elizabeth II's Platinum Jubilee. Who knew then that we'd lose her a mere months later. Lovely idea. Glad they are bringing it back. So nice how they appreciate the whole team. However, the afternoon tea did not start at this hotel. Langham may have been the first hotel to offer it but afternoon tea was invented by the seventh Duchess of Bedford, Anna Maria Russell around 1840.
I would LOVE to try this. I'm a huge fan of afternoon tea. I would also have the breakfast tea, because it's strong. British people are the biggest consumers of biscuits in the world.
Are biscuits what we Americans call cookies? I had an Irish roommate and he always bought imported cookies from a company called McVities. Holy cow, they were delicious.
@@tomcarl8021 Yes, us Brits refer to cookies as biscuits. Cookie to us means the American type of large, slightly soft and chewy, chocolate chip cookie.
@@rachelbird7798 And biscuits to us is actually cornbread, usually served hot as a side dish at dinner. But even that is a regional thing in the US. It's a staple in Southern cooking but not the rest of the country.
I remember the Langham back in the early 80's and also when Disney used it has their 'pre-employment' staff selection venue for the opening of Disney Paris. I worked across the road at the BBC, also in catering, (left after a year) for the board of governors and titled privileged swarays 'gluttonous' dinner parties that always ran late into the night. What some people fail to recognise is the hard work behind the scenes, the unsociable hours that have to be put in to put on 'The Show'. I wouldn't advise any of my friends or family to go into the hospitality sector, that's if you want a family and social life.
Lovely production! Wonderful to see the staff holding the Champagne 🥂 ✨glass properly, however (14:19) the Lead man in the purple tie 👔 could take a lesson from them 😄😆
Anyone see the parallel with Gourmet Makes with Claire XD Them perfecting chocolate biscuits is literally like Claire trying to make Kitkats in the BA test kitchen
The piano music playing at 8:02 was the theme to the slasher flick, "Halloween", the scariest movie I've ever seen--mostly because of the frightening and scary piano music. Could have chosen a better selection in trying to promote their new afternoon tea.

Maybe everyone in the comments is rich as hell, but I don’t think 3 handmade sweets and 2 shop-bought cheap biscuits should be £83. I know it’s meant to be an experience but we need to stop normalising exorbitantly extortionate prices aimed for the rich and ultra rich only.
It's literally the budget set by the hotel for these reasons: You are paying for all the expensive things you look at and enjoy, the property tax has to be paid, the staff has to be given a good salary because these are not your off the street ppl, they are educated and highly trained, the washrooms need to be kept very clean and the staff will be at your back and call. So no. You are not paying for the food. The food is probably 20 pounds. The rest is the bill you foot for entering that place and enjoying it's amenities, the brand name, the Instagram pic u put on when u visit that place etc. So yes. This price is not for those with shallow wallets, but with a very deep wallet. It's resonably priced. Affordable depends on how wealthy you are. If this was 200 pounds I would say it's unresonable. But with the 83 pounds per person, it should cover the cost of running this place.
@@btsarmyforever3816 I'm not staying in the hotel, I just came for the tea and sandwiches. A member of staff MIGHT be £10 per hour but they're serving many people within the same time. So my butt on that designer-selected chair does not cost them the remaining £63 to enjoy the £20 kit. I'm just saying, it's not exactly a nice day out sort of an activity - it's something you maybe try once and never again if you're in the bottom 97% of Britain.

The best afternoon tea - EVER!
Was here in November such a beautiful hotel and the staff is so accommodating. Every day we spent here was a true holiday. Fresh fruit every day and the Tea service was amazing. Loved the Langham
Absolutely stunning. The management is spot on and not too overbearing. Very nice teamwork 👏. Everything is worth every penny.
I've had the afternoon tea here...in 2012...it was excellent...perfect service...the art deco room at the Park Lane hotel (now a Sheraton) was also excellent.
Had afternoon tea there in 1999. If it is half as good as it was then. I can only recommend it. The ambience probably adds to the taste. Moreover the look you get from the public as you leave the hotel is almost a statement by itself. I was a poor student when I went but the girlfriend was worth it.
Which girlfriend? What happened to her?
@@Mogamishu lol! We separated 5 years ago. Whilst not amicably, we do talk once in while. I even shared this video with her. We were together for 23 years.
@@agyemanboaten4385 I am sorry that it didn’t work out after all that time together. I was replying to say how nice it was for you to say that your girlfriend was worth it even though you were a poor student
Having traveled to London, on business and
on vacation. I have truly enjoyed having
afternoon tea, at the Ritz, the brown hotel,
and others, no one does it better than
London. Always excellent service and
the selection of pastries and sandwiches
have been delicious 😋.
A big round of applause to a very hard working team. Disappointed the guests didn’t really dress for the occasion as I always feel that adds to the whole experience.
I find it really uncomfortable to dress up.
The guests all seemed to be dressed nicely 🤷♀️ Women don't have to be in extravagant dresses to be dressed up
@@LilGrasshopper I wouldn't class a hooded anorak as being dressed nicely for afternoon tea.
I too was disappointed at the lack of effort; it's an occasion!
Their not upper class. Their the new money. BBC know Nd actors etc.
My first job in the UK when I first arrived almost two decades ago was at Pizza Express and I remember that was the way they trained us every time the company change the menu!
It should be the standard !! I hate when when waiters don't know the taste ...lol. But ,it would be hard for vegetarians & vegan waiters ...I was a vegan for a long time ,I am a vegetarian now for 13 years ...I won't try all ! But ,I would ask others so that I can tell my customers. When I worked at retail, a clothing store that was what they did ! We tried on everything ( new lines ) for our shoppers there 1st !! 💜🥁🐉🎤🎵🎶💕💞

You are a very creative, hard working, and resourceful.
A “Midsummer Night’s Dream” themed afternoon tea sounds wonderful, and a really cool idea. 😊

Well... I'm make sure they get a break and acknowledgement of Performing at a Dinner Theatre...
It is going to be called:
I changed the name to

In the Summer we will have Acting Camps that will also put on a Mystery Dinner Theatre.
I used to have a little Bistro (I might have already mentioned that) it was called "Mama's Kitchen" (everything made from scratched)....
So here I am 68 years young and I want to put them all together...
"Brava Darling... Brava"
Yep. People need to live. Bravo to the staff of Langham!!!
Had my last meal in London before lockdown at the langham, then went to a cooking class there in 2021, best hotel I’ve ever been to in London! 🙌
I want to do this! The staff, the menu looked delicious and the overall experience was brilliant.
I agree!!
I felt sooo emotional watching this soooo nice to see....sooo pretty and decadent which we all need.....big hugs to all and Thank You😊
And thank you donna, for wishing hugs to us all.back at you.was entertaining and escapist.

My goodness, this was very emotional and heartwarming to see.
Love how all the executives aren't wearing masks but everyone else has to.
Do you know if they tested often or you just saying random stuff to be disgruntled??
@@SirenScorpio Doesn't matter. The images are what's being sold in this program, and what's being sold is that the executives are mask-free and the help has to mask up.
Yes always noticed.
The staff deal closely with the public.....the executives rarely. Please let's not turn this into a political debate ...... it's afternoon tea for God's sake. ☺
masks are for slaves
Another thing for my bucket list 🇨🇦
Have you been to England before?
Very moving and admire the dedication shown by everyone. It has enter into my bucket list.
the flirty older lady in the amazing green jacket 😂 I liked her onscreen personality. Very funny to see her asking how fast hed be back and commenting he knew how to charm. I love custard creams (we can get em in NZ) And bet that was rlly rum. Their flavour is great they can just be a bit dry, bet that was nottt.
I do afternoon high tea everywhere I travel around the world and collect loose teas from my travels. It's my favorite thing to do to treat myself. I've done high tea in London but not here. I may have to come back to experience this gem. My cup of tea :D
its NOT high tea. It is afternoon tea. High tea is just another term for dinner (evening meal with meat, vegetables, potatoes)
I have several friends who live in London. They prefer this establishment over Claridge’s for the afternoon tea experience. They adore the furniture, and intimacy of the room and the exquisite personal service. These are THEIR words not mine. I will just have to go after seeing this!! Thanks so much for posting this!
Wow! Very moving. Wish I could enjoy the tea one day.
Well done team. So appreciative of all the hard work they do.
ASAP.
Afternoon tea conquers all
Tea & sympathy !!! 👍👍💜🥁🐉🎤🎵🎶🍰🫖☕🍵🧁🥂🍾💕💞

You're on My List for my next trip ❣️🇺🇸 ❤️ 🇬🇧
Lovely idea. Glad they are bringing it back. So nice how they appreciate the whole team. However, the afternoon tea did not start at this hotel. Langham may have been the first hotel to offer it but afternoon tea was invented by the seventh Duchess of Bedford, Anna Maria Russell around 1840.
Beautiful! This was so touching. I will never forget The Langham.
As an american watching the biscuits part....love it!!! That's the exact type of thing I want to have when I visit!
I did a video of Tea at The Drake Chicago, it’s amazing to see all this hard work that’s out into this experience.
@@rachelbird7798 British women love tall men and have high heels permanently glued to their feet.
Can’t wait for safe international travel. I would love to experience tea at the Langham.
I love afternoon tea, this is on the bucket list for a special occasion, maybe with my children for a graduation or something :)
Wow.Thank you for this. What a beautiful world and persons we got.Exquisite indeed!
I have the utmost respect for people who create beautiful and healthy food for others.
You have to love it and look at it as a career.....not just a job. Plus it helps if you keep your political & societal judgements for your off-time.
I enjoyed this presentation. Asked my daughter let's do an Afternoon Tea. Pamela in Detroit Michigan USA
I can't wait to have afternoon tea here!! On my bucket list.
I loved my stay at The Langham London!
Lovely production! Wonderful to see the staff holding the Champagne 🥂 ✨glass properly, however (14:19) the Lead man in the purple tie 👔 could take a lesson from them 😄😆
Awwww... This is so Beautiful...
"Bravo Darlings... Bravo"
83 is pricey for biscuits, tiny sandwiches and tea. That's 166 for two people. ❤
If I had the money, I'd gladly spend it on that! Whay a time machine to yesteryear! Bravo to all that hard work. Makes me smile.
I love afternoon Teas. When I retire, I would love to travel and experience Afternoon Tea in different locations.
Bringing back the glory days is very difficult, but I can see in this video The Langham's have succeeded.
Anyone see the parallel with Gourmet Makes with Claire XD
Them perfecting chocolate biscuits is literally like Claire trying to make Kitkats in the BA test kitchen

Was lucky to win this experience all the way from Australia with a private tea sommelier also,I pray I can return 🌸
