Respect for Gasquet, never thought he made it this far, and pull it off!
Gasquet deserves more respect than Federer. Gasquet respect every type of surface and ranking points of different tournament, and would not use "injury" or "change of schedule" to skip a match or tournament which he is going to lose.
@@anthonyrooksac 'Deserves more respect than Federer', what a stupid quote that is
@@thibaultdelandsheer9109 not really. He’s right
@@samuelbrown4764 So he did more for the sport than Roger Federer?

That backhand is a pure work of art
It brings a smile on my face every time. Some of them come out of no where!
Best backhand ever I don't care what people say about Wawrinka or Thiem
@@YOUENNNN Or Shapovalov and Kohlshreiber , but I do agree with you Richard's backhand is the most complicated unimanual backhand in all history of tennis , because only him can manufacture these ballistic masterpiece backhands from every position , every side and from different angles and even when even his position and distance and preparedness are not ideal for that shot .
@@aryomedianus2936 Exactly and also the most versatile, like he can do any type of shot with it
@@aryomedianus2936 I think the way he wraps the overgrip may contribute to it. The way he makes the butt of the grip so large. Either way, I love watching his bh.
Unbelievable! Fantastic to see a member of the old guard still play so well!
Who else is still out there representing the old angles.... this guy.
Nadal and Djokovic are not bad either!
@@jacquesfontaine2749 really? I thought they sucked.
@Rafa undisputed Goat I can't tell if you're a bot programmed to comment this on anything Rafa related, or a person that has this eternally copied onto his clipboard to paste
Congrats to Gasquet, my mans needed this win for a long time now. Also that ceremonial Haka was fire.
I liked it as well, but poor Gasquet just looked a bit out of place, haha
@@eslynbeck9197 y el gordo con tatuajes tambien jajaja
Yes, and i completly agree with you about the Ceremony 👌
So hyped for Richard. I'll be honest I thought this was going to be a sure W for Norrie, he rarely ever loses to players ranked lower than him. Gasquet has had a few weeks like this one lately, where he plays really aggressive but it usually ends with him playing a bad match and losing. Not this week though, he was great throughout the tournament. I love watching him play and I hope that we can see more of this Gasquet in the future
The best is yet to come 😄😄😄
At the very beginning, thought it was highlights of vintage Gasquet. The outfit, the cap, the defensive shots on point and of course the intensity in his groundstrokes. Realized afterwards it happened last night, but then again watching him so fresh in the decider sent me back in the 2010s. Stunning performance. Congrats champ!
was thinkin bit of the same lol
Five years since Gasquet won a title! Amazing. And against a real tough top tenner too. He’s got to be the happiest guy in the world today. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
And from 0-3 0-40 in the third set. Big win!
@Rafa undisputed Goat nobody give a fuck. We are talking here about Gasquet.
@Rafa undisputed Goat ok, boy.
Still January 14th and this is probably the most pleasant upset of 2023.
My man Gasquet deserves it 100%.
@Rafa undisputed Goat Djokovic
@Rafa undisputed Goat hmmm :D
Did not expect this result but super happy for Gasquet.
This was a close match, and both players did really well. Norrie made Gasquet run like hell.
I'm really happy for Gasquet, he deserves this win.
Bravo Richard.
Richard's one handed backhand always has been and always will be a thing of beauty. he can do absolutely anything with that shot!
Except hit a consistent rally shot.
As a Brit sad for Cam, but he will have many more titles ahead for him. But as a single handed b-hand exponent and now in my late 50's!! SO happy for Gasquet!! The way he handles that high ball to his b-hand is amazing, and he must of been hitting the gym?? He looks leaner and those rallies were brutal, but still stayed aggressive throughout. Well done!
yeah I m 27 (same age as norrie) but I ve always loved gasquet , so happy he won
no one cares about british "people"
This is the best trophy 🏆 ceremony ever.Congratulations Gasquet!!!

@Rafa undisputed Goat 😂😂😂
So happy to see Gasquet win another title again. From what I saw this tournament, it kind of seems like he changed up his style a bit. He finishes his forehands with a buggy whip a lot more than last year. Hope he can keep this up and have a resurgence this year.
He's always been good at angles, but he really turned that up this match, didn't try to hit through Norrie.
Has he always played the forehand like that, like Nadal?
@@NightLife094 He may wish its like Nadal, but it hasnt the pace and it hasnt the spin Nadal has.
@@Bhavyo agreed, the pace and spin are not there but I don’t think that’s what he’s going for. I think he’s trying to go for slow placement. He threw so much variation at Norrie that he was able to break through Norris’s defenses with confusion. Very good tactic that only a highly patient veteran could pull off
@@Bhavyo but if i remember correctly he used to hit the forehand over the shoulder like many players and did not do that whip over the head like nadal? When did he start to change his technique?
So glad Gasquet was able to redeem himself after his loss in Adelaide!
I'm happiest man in the world right now, you made it Gasquet!! what a win! Love you man ...
real happy for gasquet, a title this late in his career. that trophy ceremony was awesome, better than most.
Gasquet you are an inspiration to us. You pulled off a few close ones that seemed lost already. Starting with the Goffin win., that in itself was already amazing. But this comeback against Norris definitely tops it. Well engineered victory and most of all respect to you for overcoming your doubts !
¡Enorme victoria de Gasquet! 👏👏👏👏🇨🇵👍👍
Por fín, ganó un título después de 5 años, excelente por Richard Gasquet coetáneo de Rafael Nadal...
Richard Gasquet is definitely winning Aus Open this year, I dare anyone stop Richard Gasquet winning Aus Open 2023...
Haha
Making fun of the rafa guy😂 so great
Gasquet winning the ATP title gives me the same happiness as my favourite player winning a grand slam
@Rafa undisputed Goat lost :)
Bravo Richard. Ca fait plaisir de le revoir à ce niveau. Pour un natif de Béziers, pays de rugby, un haka en récompense, c'est cool. 😎
I love Gasquet. His backhand a delight, and this show he still has it in him to win. Wish him the best, one of the reasons I enjoy this tour.
Quel match de Gasquet ! Très solide, fabuleux revers à une main, placement... Bravo.
Two huge achievements of Gasquet! First the amazing title! Second, not laugh receiving the trouphy! Congrats GIANT!
It was a big turn of events! All respect and admiration for Richard Gasquet
Bravo Richard !
Well done to Gasquet. Great player from the greatest era. Best one hander ever in my oppinion, at its peak, maybe not as consistently powerful as Wawrinka's or Thiem, but it much more versatile shot, and boy Gasquet can crack it when he is on. Happy for him.
Great backhand but wawrinka and nalbandians are better
@@adambennaim5500 Nalbandian had two hander. I said one hander. And no, i think peak Gasquet had better backhand than Wawrinka, more variety, but the rest od his game, forehand, serve, stamina and strength were much worse than Wawrinka's at his peak.
@@jokelot5221 I always thought it was a testament to Gasquet's backhand that he peaked at no 7 in the world despite the rest of his game being average or in the case of his forehand, definitely subpar compared to his peers. what i also think sets gasquet apart from wawrinka and thiem is that his backhand is practically his go to shot even in neutral rallies and he plays around his backhand all the time. it really is the foundation of his game so it has to be one of the best ever!
@@joddle23 I agree.
Gasqgoat can also hit it harder than anyone else, rest assured. Watch v Murray Miami and way back v Murray French Open... Standing at back wall in Paris 105 down the line unplayable
Unfortunately, due to technical issues, the stream for the final was only available from the second set
seriously????!! wtf
We all thought you were Gasquet fans
This is a shame.
This is one of the reasons I quit my membership with Tennistv.....
What a joke . Wtf
In my opinion, Gasquet defends deceptively well, in part, due to his intelligent use of positioning. He seems to play those defensive squash shots very well also.
He's been doing it on tour since 05 at least
This backhand is the most reliable shot on the tour! He cannot miss it!!!! Congrats Richard!
Gasquet even got better and better in the last 5 years. The way he plays... some games were really incredible. Also probs to tennistv THIS was how a Highlights video should be!
Except for the 1st set missing..
Good Gracious, What a fight!! 🙌🏽
Watching that Gasquet backhand never gets old. One of the all time great shots in tennis. And what a win from a break down in the decider. Norrie will be kicking himself.
Glad they showed the award ceremony at the end. Never seen something like it before!
Vraiment super Richard !
Et tu as eu le droit au Haka !
New Zealand ♥️
36 years young and what a backhand and performance. Kyrgios, take a good look at this man. No cursing, no shouting and screaming, just focus, enjoy the game while you physically can and just play tennis dude.
What kind of a male appendage are you, Yes this is a Auckland Champion but this is far from a Wimbledon final
I respect Gasquet for this title and his career as a whole but do you really have to put Kyrgios in a negative light? Both are fantastically good players in their own ways.
not everyone can live life the same way. respect for gasquet but y u hating on kyrgios here just because he doesn't fit into ur ideal mold for a tennis player
So happy for him. such a classic player. calm with his backhand. Kudos
So happy for Richard, he so deserves this huge win !! Congratulations !!
AMAZING! So thrilled to see Richard get another title! Way a thrilling week of tennis and that beautiful backhand!
The last scene with combat dance and Gasquet in the middle is hilarious, he looks as if he is right in the middle of the battle surrounded with these gladiators narrow him more and more, he resists heroically and finally he ends up powerless with only that lousy stick left for his defense. Aside stands Norrie enjoying in Richard's defeat.
So much deserved! Brilliant win for one of the most underrated atp players. Congrats to Richard!
I m so Happy for Richard!AMAZING PLAYER!
Phenomenal from Gasquet, very happy for him!
Yeah bien joué Richard!!
Very nice Haka ceremony for the delivery of trophy!
YES!!! Gasquet's flashy brilliance finally takes the edge and he did it against a fresher momentum norrie I never doubted gasquet but 5 years and he gets a stick for a trophy, go figure. Cool haka presentation though really cool for tennis. Gasquet will use the stick to walk after this tournament truly great feat for him at this point. What heart.
Never underestimate Richard Gasquet.
An old timer at this point, but he always was a heavyweight.
Loved the traditional ceremony too.🌿🎾
Still a joy to see Gasquet play and win a title
@Rafa undisputed Goat don't think so
Happy times! Gasquet is best when he stays aggressive and advances to the net. His touch is unreal.
Wow tremendous Gasquet, what a warrior.....love the traditional ceremony too. Excellent
@Rafa undisputed Goat he has lack of rhythms so I'm afraid he will be stopped somewhere halfway I guess ..
Le Roi Richard tout simplement 👑
He's a living backhand legend! Look how he makes the loopy forhand like Rafa but also does the same at the backhand. Just a joy to watch.
Increíble,resurgimiento de Gasquet,merecidas felicitaciones..!
That backhand is so satisfying to watch from Richard, big congrats to him
One of the most satisfying results recently. Go Gasquet! We gotta appreciate those backhands while we could.
Wow, the champion received their own ceremonial haka!
+Matte Rochford WTF WAS THAT??????!?!!!?!?!???
Pretty cool eh@@eyeofhorus1301?
A haka is Maori dance. The Maori are the indigenous people of Aotearoa/New Zealand. Even though the British invaded and colonised NZ, Maori culture and language has been incorporated into daIly life. In this case , the haka is a show of respect and congratulations to the champion Gasquet. Looks like Richard respectfully acknowledges the performance and appreciates it.
@@rochymatt Interesting, but it looks so ridiculous that if they were doing that to me I'd probably involuntarily lose it in fits of laughter no matter how hard I try to hold it back. LOL
@@eyeofhorus1301 Richard was prepared for it. He's a rugby fan and the All Blacks do it before their matches.
Magnifique Richard!! Très belle victoire que tu es allé chercher! Bravo! Et quel exemple pour nos jeunes tennisman français… Merci Monsieur Gasquet!
Amazing! Beating Norrie in his home country as well. Love it
The backwards hat gives him the magic.
That ceremony 😂 Richard looks shocked 😂🎉
Gasquet showed his warrior spirit to come back from that match. Perfectly reflected in the Haka in the end.
Spot on
@Rafa undisputed Goat this aged well, even for a troll.

Huge respect to Richard Gasquet. I’ve always wanted him to do well. I love his backhand. How he won today is quite remarkable. He is 35/36 so make the most of him before he’s gone. One of last of the previous gen still playing.
Bravo !!! Magnifique Richard !!!t'as la forme !!! Ton jeu est intelligent et vraiment agréable à regarder. Tu es comme le bon vin qui se bonifie en vieillissant.
Gasquet played on another level at times in this, acting like the human maginot line!
Throughout the third set Norrie played decently yet only got the vast majority of his points off Gasquet errors. The man couldn’t miss a ball and seemed to return everything even when it looked like a winner against most other opponents
Gasquet went far beyond any useless line ha
Dang that was amazing to see, He was down the Third Set too! Awesome fight from the Veteran, I wish him a healthy season. His Tennis IQ is amazing.

Je suis très heureux pour toi que tu aies pu vivre ce moment là autrement qu'en mode spectateur
What a fight from, Richard. Given Cameron's wheels you always back him to grind a match out in a final set. But Gasquet dug in and fought back with some typically inspired shot-making. Wonderful.
Where did this come from? Gasquet playing the best of his life, so clever and precise, keeping spirits up when down. Return of the GOAT singlehanded backhand
YEEEEEESSSSSSS!!!!
Also epic Haka at the end!!
epic? yeah, like cave men
That last minute is literally memeworthy. The way Richard stands there and starres at them is hilarious.
I think maybe he didn’t want to smile and insult them?
I think it's purely respect. In france they know the Haka as they watch some rugby. So I think he knew that, Only people that are not familiar with haka can find it weird
ahah I was thinking the same (I'm French)
Props for not starting to laugh. Shows his mental strength!
SERIOUSLY LOL
Gasquet the fighter still at 36. Thanks for the great memories.
Anyone else here for the Maori awards celebration? It never gets old! Congrats to Gasquet, he played some truly inspiring tennis for this entire tournament.
Is that what that yelling and street dance was at the end? Most ridiculous thing I have seen and has nil relation to tennis. Didnt look like an 'award' more look like a display of bad acting from comicon.. Then again the ceremony at Adelaide 1 wasnt much better with another street actor who was murmuring something in the presence of Novak
Was good to see Gasquet win even if the tournament was poorly mismanaged(half the tournament indoors without any audience?!). However this is to be expected of Aus-NZ where everything is near peak clown world..

But Ben Shelton though? Watch out for Shelton and Cressy!
Hats off to Richard for keeping a straight face during that medal ceremony. Also awesome tennis. Glad to see him win another
What a big win for Gasquet. 0-3 0-40 down in the 3rd set but comes back, winning his 1st title in almost 5 years. 36 years old and still has that fight in him. Tsonga and Simon may have retired but Gasquet is still keeping the French musketeers well in the mix. Hopefully Monfils can put together another good season or two. Sad Gael is missing AO.
Gasquet has a possible R2 vs Kyrgios at AO. And now Richard is 8 wins from the 600 milestone. How long until he gets there? I say in Miami.
Back in the top 50 too. Could be seeded at FO if he stays healthy and keeps up this form. That could be huge in the sense that it would guarantee avoiding facing a top player in R1-R2.
Bravo Richard, c’est super de te voir gagner ce tournoi!

Grand respect pour Gasquet vraiment
Gasquet had been struggling with his stamina and reflex for years, and tried to change his game style.
Did not seem to work, and I was wondering why he is trying so hard despite his age.
Considering he was on top of Junior tennis along with Nadal, and also himself being once on World No.7, he must have been the one who felt the biggest frustration for Gasquet, himself. Giving away to new generations. Watching his companies retiring.
Retirement must have been his mind for years whenever he is exausted.
After all, he made it through all those pain and now standing tall.
Utmost respect to you Gasquet. To me, this is the greatest victory of all time.
Huge Gasquet!!!! back to old good time
Gasquet in good day can be a dangerous player specially when his backhand is working. Having said that I thought his chances of winning was only 20%. Some of the points he played his best in a long time. Congrats well deserved.
