Richard is one of my favorites. Just a shame he didn't win more but the competition is tough.
fed era bruh
@@t-bone7988 true.
The best looking one handed backhand in Tennis for sure! As stylish as deadly.
Nalbandian and Gasquet will always be my favourite backhands ever.
They are the best on the game. Power, technique, touch, angles, everything.
@Naim Asif could be Paire's though
@Naim Asif lmao I mean that's fair. Paire's issue is how he practically yanks/snatches it, but I would rate it over Gasquet's in terms of reliability even if barely. It really is a shame that it only got worse as his overall game got better over the years he approached his prime
I think more stylish and elegant backhands are with 1.FedEx and 2.stanWaw. The most powerful in backhand is StanWaw. But the most SKILLFUL is Gasquet !
What about the former goat?
The most beautiful and elegant backhand I have ever seen, being Federer a close second. Players shouldn't be measured only by their number of titles, but also their entertaining level, and Gasquet is one of those absolutely special players.
Totally agree, Fed's backhand is insanely beautiful, Gasquet's backhand beauty is simply god given. Favorite player ever, quintessence of natural talent, humble bloke (too much...). Still dream of him going big in grand slam. Will never happen but whatever, the beauty of his backhand will define tennis for the ages ;-)
Wawrinka, Thiem, Shapovalpv
Even now far past his prime, Gasquet's backhand remains poetry in motion. Simply sublime and always a treat to watch.
The one against Murray in Miami is the hardest one handed backhand I have ever seen.
Have you seen any two handed backhands hit harder?
@@cussyrichards6121 yes. Nadal against Djokovic. M9ntrel 2007
similar to Federer's against Zverev, Shanghai 2019, check it out
Once upon a time he was the future of tennis. Sad it didn't happen
It’s a shame it’d had been a nice show
It’s a shame it’d had been a nice show
That time, when Gasquet was called the future of tennis, rivaling Nadal.
That's why no one should hype someone, you'll ruin him. These kids of today won nothing, yet they are the "Next gen".
@@masters.1000 nadal was called the future of tennis and Federer too after he beat Sampras at Wimbledon. It simply comes down to natural talent that is genetic and simply can not be taught or influenced by other outside factors such as pressure being called the next big star)
Future? Oh future joke u mean...
4:16 That's just ridiculous
103 mph backhand, pretty impressive.
Probably the best backhand ever hit
For me he has the most complete single handed backhand. Basically Stan's power + Federer's variety/shotmaking into one single hander
do you even watch tennis, what a load of nonsense, Gasquet has no way near as the power of Wawrinka, not even close, he wouldn't even be in the top 10 for power, the most powerful single backhanders are Wawrinka and Thiem and nobody else comes close to that I'm afraid
@@MrJchneo Absolute rubbish. Some of the fastest one handers ever have been hit by Gasquet. You don't consistently hit backhand winners from the baseline if you don't have a powerful stroke.
@@MrJchneo Simple and quick research for you - search for Gasquet 70 winners video on UA-cam and watch around 20-40 seconds mark where there are two consecutive inside out backhands he absolutely pulverises against Djokovic and Murray, particularly the Murray one.
@@MrJchneo Stan might have more natural power but Gasquet tends to give a bit more to his body rotation
@@MrJchneo wut
it's been 15 years I hear all tennis heads saying Richard Gasquet has the best backhand ever. He may not have the greatest career but what an acomplishment that is!
yeah, and I mean no offense or hate towards him when saying this, I feel like the only reason we never saw him break past top 7 is just because his forehand is incredibly mediocre compared to his backhand. Amazing player to watch though
Gasquet’s backhand is one of those things i can watch it on repeat, it is pure artistry. I still wonder how can he generate so much power while hitting the ball at such height from way behind, it’s pure genius. Wish he was consistent and played to full potential.
Always hit to your opponent’s backhand - *unless* - you’re playing Richard Gasquet.
Lol yeah he's probably the only player that you would need to pick on the forehand withb
Or David Nalbandian and Benoit Paire
Wawrinka says hi
Gustavo Kuerten
and wawrinka enters the room
2:08 Nadal: "U Wat m8?!"
I mean, after that shot there's no other proper reaction. That was just brilliant
Never seen anyone wreck Rafa's overhead smash that effectively.
Imagine if Gasquet had a Fernando Gonzalez like forehand. That would me a mulitple grandslam winner right there.
And if he didn't do coke
@@Lakers24bn Is he into coke?
@@ragas2845 nope
And if he had Isner's serve...
Just Gasquet with a FH and à serve half as goods as...Wawrinka's and you're looking at a 5+ Slams winner.
Most elegant one handed backhand in history of tennis.
Richard Gasquet has the most beautiful one-handed backhand ever!
Even though i am a two-handed backhand player for almost 20 years 'cause it's very stable, Richard Gaquet is one of my favorite players all time!
Gasquet should run around his FHs to hit more BHs
On 18 June 2005, his 19th birthday, he won his first ATP Tour single title !
All yall saying his forehand is trash doesent seem to understand that many of these backhand bombs where opened up by a very good forehand
Richard's backhand is my safe place.
Supremely talented Frenchman Dunno where he went wrong and y he simply couldn't win more. All the best
Forehand. Definitely a shame though yeah he has serious talent.
No serve, no forehand
@@Johnny-cz2wv his serve is good on grass though but yeah FH was really a big issue
Strange cause his FH actually looked good at the beginning of his career but then it only went downhill.
And actually his FH looks pretty good when he goes for it, particularly on grass but his FH in a neutral rally is one of the worst I've ever seen both visually and in term of efficiency
My favorite backhand of the business
4:17 this is still the fastest OHB winner in professional tennis history.
I don't know what the fastest ever is.. but Gasquet's had 103 mph and.. I don't know what Thiem's fastest ever is, but I I know tha he had a 104 mph bh winner against Casper Ruud at RG this year
Pure delight 😊
A Gasquet backhand is like a Rembrandt painting.
One of rare players whose backhand much better than forehand.
4:16 That is probably the best backhand of all time.
I still prefer Wawrinka's backhand which in my opinion is the best one handed backhand in the world, but Gasquet probably has the best coil, that's where he gets all of his power from.
Such a beauty to watch
Remember, at the age of 18 Gasquet was already a top 20 ATP. I don't know what happened next but anyway, he's the most elegant player on a court with Federer.
He's not bad to look at, either :D
He grew really fast. He was better than Nadal (they were playing again each other on ypung catégories). His physics didn't grow as much as Nadal.
2:58 That was so pure...
Happy Birthday To You
From 2004 to the present there have been 100 slams played ( would have been 101 if Wimbledon 2020 had not been cancelled) and Gasquet has competed in 91 of them. That is incredible consistency for someone who doesn’t often progress beyond the end of the first week and it’s meant he has amassed prize money in excess of £21m (not bad for a ‘journeyman’) Beautiful to watch too.
Pure art!!
Ce revers est une merveille, le plus beau du circuit
For me as having a single-hander having a bh like Gasquet is the dream.
2:08 That look on Nadal's face gotta love him
The last one at match point down to pull that out this man is one of a kind!
4:18 103 mph wow.
1HBs are even cooler than a junior dating a senior
Um espetáculo.....
His point construction is done effortlessly on his backhand
Elegant player!
Inside outside backhand at 4:20 was a rocket.
It's magic from the gods
¡Cómo buen francés: orgulloso y auténtico!.
maybe not the most efficient one handed backhand (although incredibly efficient) but definately the most beautiful.
Please do better at wimbledon than at RG
outrageous!
Gasque vs wavrinka wimbledon is a fantastic match
i prefer Wawrinka's backhand. It doesnt have the flourish that Gasquet's has but i think it's a better shot
Not really
It looks a better shot because Wawrinka has other weapons like his FH and serve that help his BH to shine.
Imagine Gasquet with a FH and serve just nearly as good as Wawrinka (and Wawrinka has not the best FH or serve in the tour, far from it): you're looking at a 5+ slams winner
The one against Murray in Miami has a special place in my heart, the most gorgeous backhand winner EVER!
A picture sent in outerspace to explain the game of tennis to extraterrestrials: definitely Richard Gasquet's backhand
His backhand reminds me of a dragonfly. So compact, snappy and gorgeous.
So good
Probably the best back hand in tennis
His backhand isn't just the most elegant, it is ridiculously devastating.
It's all in the grip.
Love how half the video is replays, nonetheless great video of the best atp backhand
I think the second best single backhand on the tour after Wawrinka.
for sure
One day my grandkids will ask me what a one-handed backhand looked like and I will show them Gasquet… (then Wawrinka, Almagro, Kuerten, Henin, Mauresmo etc.)
Best backhand ever. Strong, powerful but also beautiful
Wawrinka has the Best backhand
@@tristan2974 Gasquet has the most artistic and beautiful bh,Wawrinka has the most consistently powerful one.
@@tristan2974 nope it's Gasquet
If Gasquet had only a decent FH and a good serve, this wouldn't even be a debate at all but of course, Wawrinka's slams makes people choose his BH rather than Gasquet's
When you consider the consistency of the shot, the variety, touch and power, I think Gasquet has the best one-handed backhand ever. Shapovalov may have more power and athletic ability on his backhand, but he lacks the consistency of Gasquet, who can engage you in long cross court backhand rallies until he finally gets you far enough out of position to go for the clean winner down the line. Gasquet beat Wawrinka in the 2015 Wimbledon match because he forced Wawrinka into extended back cross court rallies and Wawrinka would typically make a backhand error after four or five shots.
the man's forehand is just terrible though. Its almost like he can't hit through it
His forehand is literally like a good college or challenger level backhand. Not a big weapon but pretty consistent. Still can't understand why his coach didn't get him to change his grip/swing on the forehand side.
[OCB] seriously. He has a full on Continental volley grip
@@slamandjam2 Very oldschool. Doesn't really cut it in 2019.
He used to have a better forehand when he came in.
@T Chupacabra this makes no sense. In that case people shouldn't have the right to judge books, movies etc because they can't do better
back to toronto 2005, the star is born. Lol
Too bad he has lots of injuries and poor FH that ruined his carrier... He was one of the best world player when he was a kid/teen, then he got overtaken.
this video makes me think that gasquet never loses tiebreaks xD
Not really , stan the man has the best backhand of All!
The best backhand ever! #2- Federer
There’s one bomb of a backhanded vs. Djoko in the USA, where’s that one?:(
2:02 how....
unrepeatable 1:51
For me, Federer still has the best there is stroke wise of one handed backhand, but in form its always been Gasquet
Gasquet's weird shoulders must surely give him his ungodly backhand, but at what cost?!?
5 minutes are not enough
I was a big fan when he came in and I think that the Main reasons why he hasn't Made a brilliant career are 1) Mental strength, fighting mentality 2) Because he stands very far from the baseline making his attacks more slow 3)Weak forehand
The point 2 are a direct consequence of the point 3 for me
And the point 1 is a direct consequence of his relatively poor fitness for me
The best looking backhand but too defensive to be a grand slam winner.
There’s plenty offense in Rich’s backhand. Can’t say the same for his forehand thou that’s why he wasn’t able to win big
It's the forehand which makes him his BH in too many defensive positions
Where is nalbandian??????
Is it better than Stan the man's?
Franchement, Gasquet, je le suis depuis très longtemps. Depuis trop longtemps. Un joueur de génie, surtout, mais un petit manque de puissance..Et de volonté...Sinon...!!!
一番最初のやつって早送りじゃないよね?
I never grasped how someone can have both the best backhand and the worst forehand on tour...
Why would any opponent play towards Gasquet's backhand? It's looking for trouble
Combines an incredible backhand with an awful forehand. You can’t win with that.
Gilles Simon était parti pour être lui aussi un grand joueur malheureusement il n' a pas prouvé grand chose
Vraiment dommage
Tous les joueurs français ont eu des bourses pitoyable
If only his forehand was as good as his backhand
Let alone as good, if it was only half as good as his BH, the guy wins at least 2/3 Slams I think
It's a beautiful shot to watch
His FH was just ok.
J'aime bien le style 🎾 de Gasquet il avait l'étoffe de devenir un grand joueur plusieurs grands chlems à la clé c'est vraiment dommage !
Gasquet has a beautiful backhand but sadly doesn’t use it properly. With that much ability and power he plays way too passive. I have seen Gasquet come up as a junior and had high hopes.. but he just refuses to stamp his authority on both wings. Should have developed a way more offensive game.
You fail to understand the big point which is that it's the rest of his game (and particularly his FH) which doesn't enable him to use his BH better
Best bachand ever
Worst forehand ever
Никола X no I think that title goes to Beniot Paire
son revers etait tres bon, mais celui a une main de federer ... faut en parler ...
only if he even he had a moderately decent forehand he would have probably won a slam.if he had like a cilic or del potro forehand he would easily have won all the slams.
Sad commentary on how far net skills have fallen when a pretty nice half volley winner is met with disbelief and such acclaim.
So sad you can’t win anything but a YT highlight video with just a pretty backhand and no serve and forehand ☹️
His backhand is quite remarkable, his forehand among the worst
Federers backhand is the best ever
Wawrinka has the Best
@@tristan2974 the hardest
You cannot win Grandslams with backhand alone..
Poor Gasquet mom died.
Did he retire already.?
No !
