    This helped me today two lcd bracket screws (Dell 5400) were stripped. I drilled thru to the chassis ..no damage thank GOD 😂 the screw dropped thru to the chassis

      Dell has been bad about this in their laptops made after 2014-2015, been finding a lot of screws GLUED and/or stripped. I feel rage when looking at rugged series latitude laptops lol

    This is brilliant idea. I tried on my $2000 new laptop to upgrade memory. It is very scary at beginning drilling into your laptops but it did work with plenty of patience, thank you very much,

    I’m going to try that next time. I was working on a Dell, it was a horrible experience, start to finish, and I just drilled out the screws eventually, but with a big bit. Worked decently well, it loosened the screws so they practically came out on their own even without their heads. Tried all the other tricks before that, nothing but frustration

    this won't damage the inside of the laptop components?

      If you slip off the screw and drill other parts of the computer, yes, that will damage other parts of the computer. If you stay on the screw and only drill it, no, it will not affect other parts of the computer :)

      The drill bit you use will depend on the size of the screw your trying to drill out. It would have to be the same size or smaller than the size of the screw

    How does putting the drill in reverse lift the screw out? We just drilled a hole so there’s nothing to grip it. Mine just continues drilling a hole in the opposite direction..

      Yes, this works to remove stripped screws no matter where the screw is located. However, you would want to take extra caution if you choose to try this method as, if you slip, you can damage your motherboard instead of just scratch your case

    drillbit smaller than screw shaft? or head because if shaft thats a very small bit.

      That depends on the screw but its usually going to be smaller than the head but the same size or slightly smaller than the shaft. Yes, since laptop screws are small, it would need to be a small bit

    i dont have a drill, my screwdrivers are very small like 1.55mm just ordered it and i only unscrewed 4/12 😥

    Is it too risky to use this method to unhook an SSD latched with a stripped M2 screw?

      This method is a bit more advanced than many DIY tricks I have on my channel and does come with a high risk of damaging your computer if you slip or drill too far. Its your choice if you want to take that risk or if you would prefer to pass it on to a computer tech.

    I have an m2 6mm screw on my heatsink and it's stripped. I want to replace my thermal compound but can't because of the stripped screw and I don't want to harm the motherboard while trying to unscrew it. Do you have any advice to unscrew it?

      @@PC_Monkey but the screw you removed is on the case. Screw I'm trying to remove is on the motherboard(close to the CPU). So I wonder if there are any other ways to unscrew it without damaging the motherboard.

      @@Apocalyman Try to use an 1.5 mm flathead screwdriver. If its in a really bad state, use a soldering iron but be careful to not to touch the anything else beside the screw with it.

    hello, i have an asus rog zephyrus g15 ga503q, when turned on it’s back to disassemble, the middle right screw stripped & i can not take it out. how should i go about this & would i need to get a new screw once i take the stripped one out?

      I usually take out stripped screws as seen here in this video. This process fully destroys the screw so yes, you would need to replace it after this procedure :)

    Is this worth trying on an ssd screw inside a brand new laptop? 😢 I don't want to damage anything or have dust go everywhere in the laptop.

      I would attempt it as I have done this many time before. However, its up to each person if they feel comfortable with that. If you slip or go too far, you could definately damage the SSD or other components.

    Hi! I have a stripped screw Philips 00 head in an xps 9550. The 1/16” drill bit is about the same width as the thread, so I’m afraid it’ll obliterate the thread. I figure I should go for a 1/32” drill bit which will drill into the center of the thread. If you would share your thoughts on that it would be amazing!! Thanks :)

      Yes, if the bit is larger than or the exact same size as the thread, it most likely will ruin it. Another screw most likely wont take to it. So you should go smaller :)

    How do i fix when the captive screws in my laptop don't grab onto anything when trying to tighten? It's like whatever they're supposed to grab on to is gone. Thanks.

      Yes, that is common unfortunately. Its very possible that the threading on the panel has broken off. There really isnt a 'fix' for that. If that is the case, the panel would need to be replaced.

    Then completely come off but I destroyed them so the top came off and the screw part is still in there so I can take it off and replace one of the screws but I don't know about the rest

      @@PC_Monkey I got it off, but the ends of two of the ones by my disk drive are still stuck and I'm not sure if I have a drill bit small enough

    I know this is a year ago but if you do still respond, would this method be safe to do inside my pc safety wise, like metal going everywhere. (I don’t mind if the old ssd gets damaged since I already cloned it). I have a stripped screw on my ssd nvme which I want to upgrade, I tried a bunch of methods and I think this is my last attempt before I just go into a repair shop.

      You would def have to clean out any metal debris and I would make sure the computer is unplugged and the battery is removed. There is a degree of risk with this procedure so I only do it when I need to

      It will be different for different screws. You have to match the size of the bit with the size of the screw your trying to drill out

    hi. ive been meaning to ask. is there a way I can email you my issue? I think my laptop audio driver is faulty. I am currently using an external one, I also bought a usb headset but both are sounding very distored. Ive tried all software related troubleshoot but still having the same issue.

      Sounds like a warranty job for the vendor , experienced something like that ages go and vendor had to fix it under warranty, I think they replaced the motherboard

    What size and type is the drill bit that you used? I attempted this on my laptop with a very small lefthanded drill bit and it drilled into it but it didn't budge.

      It depends on the screw you are drilling. The bit would need to be slightly larger than the screw thread

      @@Djp1989 Hi! there is some update thankfully.
      I drilled into it the best I could (carefully) and tried to reverse but, idk if i was being too light handed or what but it didnt work. (By the way, that was for the method shown in the video with the left handed drill bit.)
      So, I ended up getting a Screw extractor as my last resort, speifically "Be91eiter Damaged Screw Extractor Set, 22 PCS Stripped Kit" on amazon. I drilled in and reversed it and i was able to get 4 screws out but takes a lot of time since you have to go slow and steady. I used the last bits the "dr #10" and "ex #10" in the kit and switch between them after ever 10-20 mins but im sure you could just stay with one and it would work still.

      You can either purchase them online, places like Ebay, Amazon, etc. Or you can get them from your local hardware or computer electronics store.

    Have an hp laptop 17 inch screen and when you take out the CD rom drive the two screws there are stripped but concerned the force will damage the screen because the laptop is closed and obviously upside down. Is this the best option?

      I would open the computer up, and rest the keyboard on a desk or something while the LCD hangs down the side. Did I explain that correct?

    the metal going into the area of the board is dangerous. Don't do this.
