4:29 HOLY SNIKES BATMAN! Didn’t know could pickup an X-lock mandrel (EZ-Lock suppose called, but It’s the X-Lock, lol)for my Dremel……WHAAAAAAAAAAAT😱🤯🤯🤯🤯 That’s awesome, and THX for “educating” me. Now, next time I’m out at Depot (probably 2mro picking up something, lol) I’ll be buying that accessory (less gotta order online😉). But that’s just awesome 👍🏻👍🏻
Same this is my problem. Screw head broke off leaving only the threads and shaft below the wood surface. There’s nothing to grab with pliers as you have to look into the screw hole to see a glint of metal
It depends on your required results. If you just want to get the top board off and don’t care about damage, I’d drill one or more small holes next to the screws and pry the board off. If you need minimal damage or to reuse the board, I’ve had some luck with drilling out the screw itself. You may need to start with a very small bit to prevent wandering, and be prepared to fill the hole with toothpick, splinter, or glue to hold the new screw.
@@TomCee53 and if drilling it out anyway, no harm in using a left-hand bit. You might get lucky, the bit could bite and act as an extractor. That's why I'm watching these videos to begin with. I'm debating buying extractors or left hand drill bits but all the videos show stupid "can't you figure this out on your own" scenarios like these here where obviously you could just use pliers. And if you can't? Bah, just cut it off and grind it down! Problem solved! RIGHT??? That screw wasn't HOLDING ANYTHING that's got to stay there! And you can't always just replace the wood or move the mounted object! My scenario is that a friend's pet-and-baby gate is mounted in a doorway of sorts along a half-height wall that separates their kitchen from the family room. They always kind of slammed the gate closed, and over the years, one of the screws on the bottom hinge broke about a quarter to a half inch below the surface of the wall. Now the gate hangs wrong and scrapes the floor. Problem is, they still need the gate for the pets and they don't want to reposition it because they don't want a bunch of holes in the wall and it's currently centered on the bulkhead. If I can't use an extractor there, there's no point in buying a set. I might opt instead for a left hand bit set. Then again, what the hell, they're not exactly expensive. Maybe I'll get both?
The drill method for broken head worked. So relieved. I brought three different stripped screw removers sets(nothing). When everything i needed I already had. Lesson learned, remedy stored for life and video saved 😅. Thank a mil !
Your tip of using the drill to just "clamp" onto the remaining portion of a screw with a broken head saved me!! I had 2 broken head screws with less than 2mm sticking out of the surface but the drill just did it... thanks!
OMG - thank you! I was finally able to fix something that has been broken for years as I couldn't figure out how to get the broken screw out. The drill trick worked like a charm.
I was replacing two old deck board today and could not remove some rusty half broken screws. After seeing this video, I tried the vise grip method and it worked very well! Thank you!
7:00 YOU’RE AWESOME DUDE. So glad I saw this trick. I’m trying to add knobs to a nightstand and it was too tight. I couldn’t get the headless screw out. Saved me further frustration.
Thank you so much you are a lifesaver. I had a broken screw stuck in a guitar in your method of using the chuck on the drill and reverse got it out. Thank you so much!
Thanks, Buddy. Had a screw sticking out about a quarter inch from hardwood, no head. The locking Vice grips method saved me. It’s all about getting it as tight as possible while still closing, then slowly and patiently rotating it out.
What if the the screw head is the part blocked? The screw broke in a pedestal table I have so half is in the bottom and top is blocked off by a metal plate that went up the center large pole screw the keeps the center pedestal to the floor base foot of table. How do I remove the screw basically if it’s up side down broken off?
5:43 saved my weekend my brake reservoir screw for my dirtbike was striped bad tried multiple different methods to extract it and this truly was my last resort grinded down a big flathead screwdriver and boom thanks buds
Omg thanks so much. I had a cabinet screw that was hella stripped. And the flat head wasn't catching right to remove it and the plies didn't have any room to grip on. But when i drilled it out and used tge star bit, it was getting removed finally!!
thank you it was really very helpful however I tried to remove a screw with a broken head as you mentioned with the drill but sadly it broke shorter :( now I go another issue, any suggestion? it is as crew for a lamp holder incorporated in the floor . Thanks once again
Nice one bro! I used the extractors and i ended up returning them… because they didn’t work… i ended up just hammering a close wrench and i got out the bolt, and i love the ez lock dremel it makes life lot easier.
Well, its currently the early hours of Christmas day and this video just waved one of my daughters Christmas presents after a screw head snapped inside the wood whilst i was assembling it! Thanks so much, you helped save Christmas 😅
how would you get a tiny rusted no head screw out of metal window trim. the screw broke even to the aluminum trim. Any advice would be helpful as I am trying to replace the window. thanks.
Good tips for screws. For nails, I find a Japanese style nail puller + hammer works well, even if it’s missing the head. I use a scrap piece of wood to protect the finished piece in the same way as you.
Good show; I've been using Vise Grips for years. I ran into a problem on a door though; the hinge screws broke off below the surface and I couldn't get a bit to stay on the screw. I tried a bit that drills around the screw, but couldn't get that to work either. I never did get those out, might have to just run another screw in along side them.
I'm dealing with this very same issue right now. The screws that come with doors are absolute shit. Shearing the screw heads off below the surface is one of the most common scenarios... this video is incomplete without addressing that.
Any advice: a break off screw is broken off and is embedded into a copper fitting (back Flow preventer for a hose bib)? I need to install a new backflow device as the current one no longer functions properly.
regarding the star bit screw removal, if you use a blowtorch to heat (ONLY) the screw up, you can jam pretty much ANY bit into it while it is still hot, let it cool off, then slowly remove it, as it will warp around the bit and dry to the new shape. you also don't need to reverse the drill with the nail removal. in fact, it will work better if you keep it going forwards, since there is no threads like screws have. lastly, you don't need a vice grip to remove nails, since i know fewer people have those. you can just use "channel lock" pliers (or any adjustable wrench with a larger head like that), and rock it on it's bulge to pry the nail out. i did that when i was tearing out old lath and plaster ceiling in my basement, and had a ton of nails in the ceiling left. they came out in literally seconds with minimal effort.
Had a head come off of a screw in a metal dresser frame. Tightening the drill around the rest of the screw didn’t work at first. So I kept re tightening the drill to the screw, small short bursts in reverse and she came out. Thanks for the video man.
I built something with brad nails. Now I want to upgrade to screws. Can i just drill/screw into those brad nails without removing them? From an electrical nail gun? I have heard this works. Does it?
Can you add options for the round head screw? I have a stripped screw in the shower door, but it is has a round head and using the dremel just made a bigger mess of the screw by creating a valley vs a slot to use a flat head screw driver on.

Thank you so much for this...saved our project 😅
Glad I could help! Thank you so much!
Absolute hero - broken screw head extracted with the drill per method 1 worked perfectly. Thankyou so much
I’m glad I could be of help! 🙏🏽😊
What about a screw broken BELOW the wood's surface?
Same this is my problem. Screw head broke off leaving only the threads and shaft below the wood surface. There’s nothing to grab with pliers as you have to look into the screw hole to see a glint of metal
Screw a hole next to it and punch it out

Have to drill the shiz out of it until it doesn't exist. Only way I've seen otherwise just leave it in and work around it lol
The drill method for broken head worked. So relieved. I brought three different stripped screw removers sets(nothing). When everything i needed I already had. Lesson learned, remedy stored for life and video saved 😅. Thank a mil !
You just SAVED me from a mental breakdown. Please never take down this video!

I have a headless screw at the crank case of my moped motorcycle do you think the vice grip and drill methods would work?

Yahoo!! Drill to remove broken screw head!!!
Method one broken screw head. Thank you so much bro... Save me a couple new gray hairs
I didn't explore the worse problem of all, that's when you have a stripped head with the thread completely immersed into the wood.
Thanks, man!
how would you get a tiny rusted no head screw out of metal window trim. the screw broke even to the aluminum trim. Any advice would be helpful as I am trying to replace the window. thanks.

If you hand tighten the chuck as tight as you can and then back it off one click it will prevent the chuck from loosening.
Very useful. Thank you so much. Wanted to know how to remove a screw with broken screw head. Foun plenty of options. Thanks. Appreciated.
What kind of drill do you need that has the chuck go in and out? I have never seen that before!

You are very welcome David!🙏🏽😊
I messed up the screws when mounting a new mirror and broke the head off … panicked but this video saved me!!
I couldn't find any rubber bands or duct tape so used plumber PTFE tape , worked a treat on a stripped screw with a hand screwdriver
