  • If your Lenovo Laptop is not turning on, this tutorial will show you how to start troubleshooting for its cause. This video applies if your computer seems totally dead or has minimal signs of life including lights only or hard drive and fan sounds that start but then stop right away. Check out the FAQ's and Related Video Links below !!

    FAQ's:
Q: Does this video apply to my issues?
A: This video is for computers with no signs of life that appear 'dead'. It will also help if you see minimal signs of life such as lights only or some hard drive / fan sounds but they stop right a way. If you are able to see anything on the screen at any point or if the hard drive / fan sound remain on, your issue could be something else. Leave me a message with your exact symptoms and I can direct you to the correct video :)
Q: I have tried all the steps seen here without identifying the issue :(
A: If, after trying all the steps seen here multiple times, you have not been able to find the issue, your most likely looking at a faulty component preventing the motherboard from working or a motherboard issue. I would start troubleshooting each component, starting with the charger and power jack. You can see those two videos here; • How To Test your Lapto... & • How to Fix Test Power ... . You can also try replacing other components like your Power Button to see if that is the route cause. If none of those are the issue, you would then be left with a motherboard replacement. Let me know if you would like help with any of that or with finding a motherboard. Sry it wasnt something easier :(
    Model Specific Info:
Lenovo Thinkpad T460s - There is a small battery reset pinhole under the computer that can reset the battery if the computer is not charging or turning on that can help in some cases.

there wasn’t a windows update. Initially the sceeen was blank after seeing the Lenovo logo but now it is dead - no lights on keyboard, nothing but the “on” light on the side of the laptop.have done dump of static several times and unplugging the battery. Gone through all your steps. I was told by a tech looking at it that they thought the motherboard was needing replacement. I have managed to remove the SSD card and the info is retrievable using an encloser, thank goodness. Any other suggestions?

Just to be more specific,I have Lenovo g 50 laptop , I just tried to remove the static charge , as shown in the video . Well ,the thing was that when I was using my laptop 2 days ago, it strted as nrml ,and lappy suddenly closed in the welcome screen like complety , just when I kept it on my blanket (which could have produce static charge). I also charged it for 2 hours when last time I used it before this happened

@@user-ex4kg3sx3p 1. Ya, if the power drain procedure does not help even after repeating it, and the other steps dont help either, your most likely looking at a motherboard issue :(

Same here...😔 Right before it happened, my teams or something was making my laptop mouse and programs slow and choppy, so I updated the BIOS, which worked great, except that I didn't notice that my battery wasn't charging my computer anymore, So eventually it just died, and so far none of the steps have been able to revive it. I'm freaking out, and my work can't wait. I'm shattered and feeling defeated. Almost 11 hours of trying to fix this. I have a Lenova Yoga 7i. Second one in two years. The motherboard had a known fault on my last one, but luckily it was under warranty. This time, I'm past the year mark and I'm on my own. Sorry this is the longest comment ever. I just don't know where to go next. Work is going to kill me. Long night ahead.

Lenovo 5 15ach6 power button coming on but no rgb on keyboard and display black. Happened yesterday after closing lid on accident while moving laptop playing destiny 2. Wouldn’t turn on for a while at all but then it started up randomly and worked. Tried to repeat with no success. I took the back off today and removed battery and ram, hit the power button to clear it, put it all back and it still won’t startup or have a reaction. I take care of the laptop and should be nothing from physical damage. Everyone has a black screen problem but not a no rgb and black screen problem. Could be the motherboard or maybe even the bios I guess but overall I’m just confused.

Ideapad Gaming 3 15IAH7 Intel, i left my laptop on then i went to nap woke up to my power light is off (either shutdown/hibernate according to the manual, not quite sure) rather than blinking light which shows that the laptop is on sleep, but the charging light is on showing white light meaning that the power supply works i guess. Long story short, the laptop wont turn on. Ive tried to do the power cycle like in the video by disconnecting from the motherboard and hold the button for around 60 second. The laptop still wont turn on. The novo button also doesnt work. Could the battery itself be faulty? Is there any possibilitt that my hardware is short-circuit? This laptop is 1 year old and due past the warranty. What could be the problem?

Next day it was totally dead also with no charging light. Have tried all of the steps except taking out battery since that is more complicated with this model, also not tested RAM sticks yet. It has done this a few times before, and it seems it did a spontaneous power discharge. I charged up again and worked ok. This time it’s also not charging. It wasn’t moved or dropped. I have a Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 3 Chromebook 11M735.
Not only does the battery not charge at all (the light is solid red when plugged in), but when I try to use it while it’s plugged in, it dies within 5 minutes.
I’ve contact a few computer repair places in my area, but their price quotes and solutions have varied. I’ve been told I only need to replace the battery, while another told me that even with a dead battery it should work/not shut off when plugged in and that it’s not worth repairing.
I went for over a year without using the computer so I had assumed that the battery had died from non-use, but the fact that it turns on immediately when plugged in only to completely die 5 minutes later really confuses me. I’ve tried to do refreshes, reboots, restarts that I’ve found on message boards, but nothing works or the computer doesn’t stay on long enough for me to do them.
Any insight you can provide is greatly appreciated! Thank you!

The screen keeps flashing on and off that’s it’s updating, the power button is flashing a white light, the charging indicator light keeps flashing green and red, and the computer can’t turn on or off unless I plug it in/out.

For a computer that wont turn off, press and hold the power button for up to a minute to turn the computer off. If that fails, remove the battery and unplug the power adapter to force a shut down. What happens after that, when you try to turn the computer on?

  • @intellectlibertystudygroup6690

Thank you for the feedback. Unfortunately the laptop doesn't power on with the power adapter only. What happened is that I got the laptop the day before yesterday from a local swap and top shop. When I got home I charged the laptop until it reached 100%. By the moment I plugged off the power adapter the battery % dropped to 78% instantly. I used the PC for about 3.5 hrs then when it reached 26% I plugged on the AC adapter the status bar showed that the adapter was plugged in but power dropped every second. The next morning I reached out to a Lenovo community where it was explained that if I do power drain with the battery removed and then plug it on and if it fails to power on then it's battery problem. So after the power drain (pressing down power button for 10seconds) I put back the battery and it never powered on. I tried the AC adapter only without the battery but still nothing happened. So I am now stuck

Hi, need some help here, soon if possible. My laptop Omen 15 ek-0003ns (i7 10750H & RTX2060) just "died" on me (maybe it is really dead); I was playing some games and it just shut off, no signs of life, not even the light beside the power jack. Watched your older video and did the steps. Nothing. Checked the charger/jack, disconnected and connected to the laptop, and battery; they showed numbers a bit above the specs but ok (charger/jack 19,9v instead of 19,5v, and battery 12,2v instead of 11,5v). I guess it's ok-ish, maybe the battery isn't.
I just don't know what happened and what to do, besides the obvious, bringing it to a repair shop or something, but I don't really want to, especially if it's something I can solve or try to.

The power button light comes on, and I can hear the fan spinning, but after 1 minute the power button light goes out and I hear a little clicking sound. Sounds like your on the correct video. Have you tried the steps seen here?
Also, did anything happen before this issue appeared? Liquid spill, overheating, Windows update, etc?

I have a Lenovo Yoga 7i, and have tried pressing and holding the power button and then I tried using a paper clip in the emergency reset hole. Neither worked. Any suggestions for this specific laptop?

Have you tried the BIOS reset or checking the RAM as seen here? Also, did anything happen before this issue appeared? Liquid spill, overheating, Windows update, etc?

@@PC_Monkey Thanks for your response! No, there were no spills or other issues before it stopped charing. I wasn't able to do the BIOS reset because it wouldn't tuen on. And I did not have the proper toold to take off the back for any additional exploration. I ended up taking it to a repair shop. Hoping the cost is not too high.

Hello, i have one question. I replaced my broken laptop lcd with a new one. On the first try, it started perfectly. However, after shutting down and starting again, the screen won't turn on. It went completely black. The laptop is turning on perfectly. However, only the screen is not working. I tried the old screen, but it is also not turning on. I checked the power and vga connections, but they were connected. What can i do to fix the problem, or should i go for company repair.

For a computer that turns on but the display does not work, try this video first; ua-cam.com/video/e9iy30J00-k/v-deo.html. Let me know how that goes :)

My Thinkpad T480 is completely dead - no lights, fan, etc. Tried with good power supply, battery, memory, CMOS battery, etc. Did the power button and reset button multiple times with both power supply and battery.

If, after trying all the steps seen here multiple times, you have not been able to find the issue, your most likely looking at a faulty component preventing the motherboard from working or a motherboard issue. I would start troubleshooting each component, starting with the charger and power jack. You can see those two videos here; ua-cam.com/video/YBhsVHideGE/v-deo.html & ua-cam.com/video/HpabvrNaodU/v-deo.html. You can also try replacing other components like your Power Button to see if that is the route cause. If none of those are the issue, you would then be left with a motherboard replacement.

Are there any signs of life at all when you try to turn it on? Lights? Fan, Motherboard, or Hard Drive sounds? Anything seen on the screen? Also, did anything happen before this issue appeared? Liquid spill, overheating, Windows update, etc?

Lenovo with internal battery has a reset button you can reset with a paper clip or what you use to remove SIM from a cellphone. I did this and it powered up after a promp appeared on screen

@@PC_Monkey This is a work computer bought about a year and a half ago. It was hooked up to a docking station. When arriving to work, was working and the battery indicator popped up saying 8% battery life remaining. I checked the battery settings and it showed 100% battery up until 4 am when it started declining some. After a few minutes it shut down and we haven't been able to get it to charge or come back on since. I don't believe there was an update in the night but I am not certain. I do know nothing was spilled on it.
