Yesterday I had a moment which was really cool to me, but might not sound as cool written down. My buddies called in an extraction, while I was trying to close a few remaining bugholes. So the timer was counting down, and I had to run to the extraction site, when I saw that my buddies were shooting a lot of bugs in front of me. I was being chased by a few bugs, and I just couldn’t stop. I started shouting “Cease fire! Cease fire! Friendly coming in”, and my friends stopped shooting so I could squeeze in between them and arrive at the extraction site. Me and my friends played the first helldivers game. We played it for a long time and have always loved these horde shooters. We've played lots of Vermintide, darktide, and mostly Deep rock galactic; ROCK AND STONE! The 1st game was and still is very fun. All of the weapons in the 2nd installment are the same weapons available in Helldivers. The only brand new weapon that the sequel introduced that the 1st game didn't is the Spear. In fact in terms of both stratagems and weapons the sequel has is a lot less then prequel but to be very fair the 1st game didn't start out with all of its content from the get go it was added over time and I am 100% sure this will get the same treatment. There are a number of major differences between how some of the stategems and equipment works though. For example a weapon/equipment strategems were a 1 time call down. If you lost your weapon due to death and your team mates don't help you to recover them you cannot call down another. A number of offensive strategems had limited uses as well the sentries being one of them. Once you used up all the charges that's it. similar to how you can only use the orbital laser only 3 times per mission. The biggest thing you could do in the 1st game was use multiple copies of the same strategem. It was a legit feature not some exploit that Arrowhead recently patched for Helldivers 2. Lastly there not only mechs but multiple vehicle types, ranging from a 2 man mortorbike with a mounted machine gun to a heavily armed APC with a main cannon and twin sponson mounted machine guns. Now that the new game is a 3rd person with large scale maps those vehicles will be a great addition as it will make it easier to traverse the maps in the game. Some missions and maps are so large that just moving around them can be tedious and since higher difficulties have so much more secondary and optional objectives to do just having a vehicle will make getting every single optional and secondary objectives doable for everyone. Sorry for the long post. I hope it was insightful.
Hell drivers has this energy and it keeps this the energy for everyoment of gameplay. From the moment you step into the body with the mucus that is cue'd to your foot step into the pod.. chunking down and coming out of the pod like the baddest of asses in the world. The amazing voice acting of the characters. It's just so consistent.
The first Helldivers was very similar to what 2 is. It was also an excellent game but a bit more niche than 2. Obviously the major difference was that it was a top down, twin stick shooter with simpler graphics and was not a live service game but everything else was basically there. The call in system, the mission structure, the tone, the difficulty, the friendly fire, the "co-op play is essential" game design. They've very much taken that game and just made it look awesome, done it in 3rd person and added the live service elements in a thoughtful way. It's honestly wild how similar it is aside from those few fundamental core changes because I wasn't sure it would work but they just nailed it across the board
Also I’ll say the missions with your friends where you barely extract are more fun than if you have 5-10 reinforcements left. It’s awesome when the tension builds as you try and barely survive with 1 reinforcement and a 4 minute extraction timer
That’s any game. Think of a completely different game. You winning a warzone game with all your teammates left vs winning with you clutching it up. Even madden. Winning on a last second field goal is better than winning by 50
@@toptiertech7291 i disagree with your battle royale take completely. Winning in a BR is the same for me regardless of whether I clutch, my teammate clutches, or we face a final team that is worse than us. And with sports games nowadays games never get to that point lol. Everybody quits once they know they can’t win. You either win by 1-2 scores(madden) or the other person quits.
Me and my wife are on PlayStation and we’re having trouble getting into lobbies together. We figured our way around that problem. And we’ve had 1 game crash during extraction. But other than that, have thoroughly enjoyed fighting for democracy.
Helldivers 2 is like that one 3 dollar scratch card that you win 20 dollars from. It feels good in the moment, but you also spent 200 dollars on 3 dollar cards to get it, and now you'll spend 200 more. Live service games, people...
Two things you said stood up to me: first that playing games should be for people having fun (not for getting a specific badge or achievement), and second emphasizing the effect of sounds and sound design in the experience (usually sound is ignored when commenting on a game experience and the focus is more on visuals and visual effects).
The servers are working great now! Hats off to Arrowhead for their hard work and getting the game fixed. It was a rare case of issues like this being very understandable and where the majority of the community remaind patient. Well done soldiers! For Democracy!
Seeing people play and talk about this game has made me go and watch starship troopers and I had a blast watching it. Now to do my part and spread it to my friends
My favorite current story on Helldivers currently is when I respawned onto a tank and just was riding it as it was still active. I was so confused, but it worked out so well as nothing was shooting me on it.
Since you asked, here's my favorite moment so far: Very early in the game, Lv5 or, I'm on a bug planet and need to destroy some eggs and kill a charger. Two man team, complete stragners. It's dark, there's a green fog further limiting our visibility, and camouflaged Stalkers are going through our reinforcement reserves like an anteater through a termite colony. Feels like we're in the first Predator movie and it just switched from mindless action to horror. It just doesn't look like we'll make it, but we somehow manage to squash the eggs and the Stalkers, as the last of them liberates my guts from my abdominal cavity. That's when the charger rears its uglry head and my teammate has a brilliant idea: he tags the huge bug and calls in a reinforcement. As the pod streaks through the skies like an oversized bullet, I can see the tag and can steer towards it. I pull hard on the left stick and ... KA-THUNK. Right through the charger's disgusting thorax! Mission accomplished!
I was a longtime player of Helldivers 1, and the evolution of the sequel while still maintaining just about everything from the original game in a weird way reminds me of returning to Shadow Moses Island in MGS4 and seeing all of those great classic environments rendered in beautiful modern day graphics
I just want to say thank you for mentioning Army of Two and flooding my mind with memories. Sitting on the couch for hours and hours playing that game with my friend. What a masterpiece, I would love a remake of that game.
As someone who has NEVER really liked live service multiplayer games, im absolutely obsessed with helldivers 2, one of the best multiplayer games ive played in YEARS! Glad to see jake u are enjoying it too
Feels like a throwback to win video. Games were fun and weren’t trying to present you with a message preach to you or biting off more than they could chew.
I had a two sided VHS, one side was Starship Troopers and the other side was I'm in the Army now, and I would watch them every time I went to my dads house.
I got tired of multiplayer PvP quite a few years ago, I generally prefer single player story games. Bought this on the off chance it would provide a pallet cleanser, but I can't not log in everyday and spread democracy and freedom! I've met new friends and played with old friends. When I've played with randoms, the lack of toxicity is so refreshing, everyone i've encountered want to do the best they could for the team. In a lot of ways, it such a wholesome game and I'm all in for it!!
I'm loving the game, it's hilarious and epic at the same time! My favorite moment I've had so far was when we were fighting Automatons, and my friends had all died, and it was just me. The horde was closing in, the rain was pouring: the scene was set. I pulled out my orbital strike stratagem, yelled, "FOR DEMOCRACY!" and as I went to throw it, I got shot in the face which ragdolled me to the ground, dropping the orbital strike right at my feet, and when I stood back up, I was like, "OH CRAP!" as I got blown into smithereens! Best gaming moment of the year so far!
Pro tip, if you hold the reload button it gives you options to change the scope range and some weapons can change from semi auto to automatic and so on. They don't show this in the tutorial so it makes the sniper much better by going from a 50m zoom to a 200m zoom
I really love how satisfying everything feels, from the gunplay to the different animations of everything. People keep telling me to use the Railgun because it's really good but the satisfaction i get from picking up an Expendable Anti Tank shooting the biggest bug and chucking it to the ground is palpable. I can't wait for them to iron out the stability stuff and perhaps buff my favorite weapon the Spear :3
There’s a planet in a system bordering Sol (Super Earth sector) with the designation Klen Dauth II. I also love Starship troopers and almost jumped outta my chair when I found it!
I am a Helldivers 1 vet. About 130 hours in the original game. I still like it to this day. I've actually been playing it a bit again since HD2 is so hard to get logged into at the moment. Great game. No real complaints aside from some minor weapon balance things and how finicky clambering over certain geometry is (I wish they would ease up on restrictions for what height you can mantle over). I'm looking very much forward to Mechs and eventually vehicles. Bumming around in an APC or tank with your friends would be so sick, especially since some of the maps are really huge. I also hope they add the Illuminate (the third alien faction from the original), though the thought of them doing the reversed-controls thing again when you get "mind-controlled" terrifies me.
I played the first game. First played it on playstation 3 because my friend had it and as someone who loved dead ops arcade in cod black ops that game resonated with me. Just the chaos and how easily just a simple mission could turn to a fight for survival if you didn't respect your enemy. I then bought it on pc and played for quite some time but couldn't get any of my friends to purchase it, but the community was diehard and the fact you could join anyone and mid mission made for some great RP scenes. I didnt know about this game until a week ago. Safe to say, I've been grinding since I downloaded it. This is the first game in years where I just had pure fun with a game. It was hilarious to be killed by and kill my friends. Like you said the tone, plays a huge part. While serious in retrospect it's hard to stay serious when your characters, and your friends have such a jovial and kid like attitude toward the game. This game has officially made me feel like a kid again in the best way.
Im not a hardcore gamer but i have loved being able to drop in and help randoms in this ridiculously addictive game. It has a bright future once they get more servers !!
I am glad to hear your thoughts on this. I genuinely wondered if this captured the best ideas of live service and co-op gameplay in your eyes. I am glad we can all join Super Earth's cause and do our parts.
Yesterday, tried a 2P Rescue Science Teams on Extreme. We managed to rescue ~20/40 before time ran out. For extraction, I had to navigate around two Automaton tanks to get to the shuttle. The shuttle was hovering over the helipad and not landing until I got close enough that I could board it. Easily my most exhilarating extraction to date. I might upload that gameplay to my YT later today.
These developers have set the standard for how communication and openness should be. They have been amazing. They are constantly pushing out updates and keeping everyone updated on whats going on. And what CEO would come out and tell the community to maybe hold off on buying the game until server issues and have been fixed? They seem to truly care about this game and more importantly the community. Hats off to them.
Life lately has been going to work, talking with my coworkers about Helldivers, then going home and playing Helldivers with my coworkers until we're all too tired for work the next day

Last night my friend fell through the ship and started dropping towards the planet. He fell for a good 5 minutes before the camera bugged out and stopped following him
I called reinforcements and pinged the tank for my buddy to drop on. There was a loud BOOMF when he managed to do it. But, as he ascends from his hellpod, the second explosion from the tank catches him and he flies across the map. He was in the air, deemed as a traitor, before dying from impact. I don't understand how this exact gameplay wasn't made in a 40k/Starship Troopers game already.
i loved the first Helldivers so much, and they absolutely took what worked and expanded on it in every single great way.
Being a fan of the first Helldivers I am stoked that part 2 is getting this much love.
Me and my wife are on PlayStation and we’re having trouble getting into lobbies together. We figured our way around that problem. And we’ve had 1 game crash during extraction. But other than that, have thoroughly enjoyed fighting for democracy.
SOCOM!!! Bring it back baby
Love the cats doing cat stuff in the background
Having a blast! Also, shoutout to that dope Alan Wake 2 shirt!
Great video, but that cat "Meow" was adorable, they just wanted to give us their thoughts on Liberty.
Just jumping on the trend and have a blast
My favorite current story on Helldivers currently is when I respawned onto a tank and just was riding it as it was still active. I was so confused, but it worked out so well as nothing was shooting me on it.
Since you asked, here's my favorite moment so far:
Very early in the game, Lv5 or, I'm on a bug planet and need to destroy some eggs and kill a charger.
Love to see Jake being a 3rd person over 1st person kind of guy ❤😁
I named my ship, Harbinger of Family Values.
A wonderful name for spreading Democracy.
That is goddamn GENIUS
Mine is "Fist of Family Values"
Hammer of family values! Lol
So the “Paul Verhoeven” winks are hard the last few month😂….”Starship Troopers” and “Robocop”😂😂
The music in the game was also ment to evoke the music in those movies too. It's so evident and the music is amazing!
love seeing you have so much energy for something, just having fun. also your hair looks great
As someone who was named after a Starship Trooper character, it's all coming full circle (and I love it.)
I’m so excited, I just got the game 5 hours ago and been addicted playing the server capacity screen since
I just want to say thank you for mentioning Army of Two and flooding my mind with memories. Sitting on the couch for hours and hours playing that game with my friend. What a masterpiece, I would love a remake of that game.
Loving Helldivers 2 and the memes we’re also getting from it has been awesome
Yessss, some of the extracts in Helldivers have me and my buddy recreating the “back-to-back” moments from Army of Two
It is so much better than the actual starship troopers game. Hopefully this game can turn the tide with regards to the gaming industry.
I'm trying to do my part, but can't log on! I'll get there eventually! 😂
One cool thing I noticed, when you kill the big robots, their legs kick in a tantrum in the exact same way Ed-209 did in Robocop.
True 😂 I noticed
I'll have to look out for that! How awesome is that? 😂❤
In a way, Hell Divers 2 almost reminds me of the best parts of L4D.
I looooove the haptic feedback, and what’s great is it even has full support on PC!
Every match is absolute chaos and i love every second of it
There’s a planet in a system bordering Sol (Super Earth sector) with the designation Klen Dauth II. I also love Starship troopers and almost jumped outta my chair when I found it!
A few planets to the left of that one, you’ll find “Zegema Paradise”. In ST, Rico wanted to go to Zegema Beach.
I love how fighting the bugs is endless caos and lead storm and then you fight the automatons and all has to be super tactical and precise
For me there's something about calling in explosions and lasers from your big ship in the sky that never gets old.
3:15 Hello it's me, Cat Baldino.
Best part of the video for me, but cat didn't get enough attention. 😢
6:16 It got better! 😂
I’ll be enlisting tonight 🙏 can’t wait to play
These developers have set the standard for how communication and openness should be. They have been amazing. They are constantly pushing out updates and keeping everyone updated on whats going on. And what CEO would come out and tell the community to maybe hold off on buying the game until server issues and have been fixed? They seem to truly care about this game and more importantly the community. Hats off to them.
Life lately has been going to work, talking with my coworkers about Helldivers, then going home and playing Helldivers with my coworkers until we're all too tired for work the next day
Was having so much fun playing and seeing the videos go viral about it that I had to rewatch Starship Troopers. Just as fun, funny, and biting as I remember, glad to see people giving good satire some love.
Army of Two! A blast from the past. I should've been studying for finals, but me and my roommate played those games back to back instead. Good times lol
Idk what you did with your hair, but it is working good sir👍🏽
I have only one rule. Everybody fights, no one quits.
Those classics you mentioned (socom,GOW,Army of two, Vegas) those are great callbacks to what we are diving into today..which is alot of fun..great vid
Bro I supremely hope that you have massive success on this, your personal channel. Love the review and perspective 🤘🏾
3:15 awww what a sweetie!
i love this game so much
Early 2000s vibe is spot on!
Wow you just reminded me of army of 2. That game ruled.
I love it how its basically 2 weeks old and everyone wants more and more. It is so nice to see genuine interest in a new game.
But the negative nancies are at it relentlessly. To anyone wanting to join, do NOT let the overblown negativity deter you
Last night my friend fell through the ship and started dropping towards the planet. He fell for a good 5 minutes before the camera bugged out and stopped following him
When I can get into the servers I’m absolutely loving the game! It reawakened my childhood obsession with Starship Troopers
The sound design in this game is amazing.
I called reinforcements and pinged the tank for my buddy to drop on. There was a loud BOOMF when he managed to do it. But, as he ascends from his hellpod, the second explosion from the tank catches him and he flies across the map. He was in the air, deemed as a traitor, before dying from impact.
I wish I had recorded that lol
