    I'm liking this guy's taste in cymbals. We especially agree on that ride and that 22 jazz ride.. sounds awesome as a crash.

    I love drummers that respect their gear and can name every cymbal/drum/head they have...

      Yea unlike most pop drummers lol One of my biggest irks is these “top” touring session guys who cant name cymbals, heads or drum sizes lol Shows how uninvolved they really are and its all the drum techs

    The Dual Crash is so awesome, literally sounds twice as good then the video shows. If you like that "buttery" feel, like you're not punching a wall but you still need depth and cut, this is what you want. It bridges the gap between high and low tones as well. Great cymbal!

    It's nice to see someone so ENTHUSIASTIC about cymbals! I have always said that you can make a cheap drum sound good, with good heads and careful tuning, but it is impossible to make a bad cymbal sound good. Now I am not so sure! I am not saying that these cymbals are bad - they are fantastic - but I am impressed that Lang knows EXACTLY what he wants out of each instrument and how to get it. I am still not sold on the Dual Crash, but that Pure Thin Ride makes an awesome crash!
    P.S. I use 2B sticks or American Classic Rocks, so I know what he's on about. Small sticks do not open up big cymbals. I used to play an all Paiste RUDE set up back in the 80s and used the old Vic Firth 3S Thunder Rocks on them - absolute monster sticks with barrel tips. I smashed them as hard as I could and they sounded awesome, but if some guy went up and tapped them with a 5B then they sounded like fucking shit! True.

    Thomas is no doubt my favorite "newer" drummer. I'm pretty sure that we are the same age and probably had the same influences growing up.
    But I took almost 20 years off drumming to come back and see that there are some great new guys. I don't care too much for the focus on foot work, but Thomas is awesome.

    That jazz ride sounds sooooo good as a crash. But Thomas says in this video this isn’t the crash to crash ride on and play grooves yet at the meinl festival he crash rides it the entire time during his play through songs. Haha

    Well, somebody below said there is no musicality in this... can only agree. But musicality is not the point here. The point is Thomas pushing the technical limits of the instrument and showing this to everyone else. Basically you should NOT even try to learn what Thomas is doing. That's completely pointless. Thomas is an unmatched drum showman. But he is not a band stand drummer. Somehow I can't see him a lot playing with bands here on youtube. If he tries to play a fraction of what he can play in a band he will burry the music, the drums will be so dominant, getting the attention and disturbing the other instrments, the latter falling into the role of the bachkground for the drums. So, if you want go on clinics / drum show career, well, Thomas is very far ahead of you. If you want to play on stage with bands, look at drummers who do that (a hint: highly technical but musical and experienced band drummer: Dave Weckl).

    • @larkstonguesinaspic4814
      @larkstonguesinaspic4814 8 років тому +1

      Kinda agree . he has a lot of skill , true , but he wants to show it off a lot . sometimes he should play things that are really simple but are very musical . but looks like he just refuses to play simpler and slower stuff .

    • @asmallpug
      @asmallpug 8 років тому

      Blackie Mesa exactly, it's all just show, we can all blaze a lick but keeping a pocket without spazing out and going nuts is what you want

    • @el_wilder8860
      @el_wilder8860 7 років тому

      Blackie Mesa I kinda agree... I myself was thinking damn hes always playing ridiculously fast does he ever play anything at a normal tempo. No joke though some ppl are used to playing so fast that they cant play at slow temples or play chops slow lol. I do like how he thinks out side of the box though when it comes to playing certain patters and using the diff variations of stacks but I was thinking damn he musta been a hyper ass kid cause he seems like he always has to be fast with his playing and even when he talks. Hes all over the place with his playing lol.

    • @paulcussion12
      @paulcussion12 7 років тому +2

      Saw him play live with Gianna Nannini! He can definitely groove! But since he kinda became famous for chops and extreme footwork, I guess that's what most people wanna hear/see.
