Realistically they'll conquer Edessa and Antioch and much of the Levant, but fail to take the coastal fortified cities. It's a toss-up as to whether they'll take Jerusalem, but I think they're more likely to just go around it and cut it off from Egypt. I think that after Baldwin I, Coptics would desire their own state, look what happened in Byzantine-Sasanian war ( the last one ), where Coptics revolted against Rome when they heard of approaching Persians. Overall nice video. Crusades are wrongly demonised by novadays historians in my opinion, I mean no one was 100% good or 100% bad but still. Liked the video. I have a cool suggestion: What if Theodoric the Great succeded in his plans of restoring the Western Roman Empire or what if Amalasuntha was never usurped by Theodahad? I really liked your Vandal video and more about this time period on these ""barbarian"" kingdoms would be appreciated. Goths, Suebi etc. And if you want a break from alt-history, I propose potential Polish-Vandal link video ( it seems unlikely at the beginning and I was thinking that too, but as I gathered more and more evidence, I got conviced. ). Keep up good work! 👍
@@Videntis.History So basically Theodoric the Great secures throne for his dynasty in Visigothic Spain ( he was only a regent irl ), asuring his family to survive there, by promises of reconquering recently lost by Alaric II - Aquitaine ( which is realistic as Franks always were broken up amongst different Duchies such as Austrasia & Neustria as soon as one King dies ), having his daughter Amalasuntha inherit both Italy & Hispania, and considering that Amalasuntha was on good terms with Justinian ( as she even agreed on raising her son, Athalaric, in Roman virtues, yet he died as teenager due to alcoholism ), Romano-Gothic/Western Gothic Empire might not have fallen that early. Years pass by and as Eastern Rome looses territories to Arabs ( with Africa which Belisarius still very likely would have conquered in 500s ), Tariq could not conquer Hispania due to manpower & resources that this Romano-Gothic Empire would have as well as loyality of the people ( as Theodoric the Great, Amalasuntha & possibly their succesors would be loved by Roman citizens ), resulting in Muslim expansion to be halted likely at decisive battle ( let's say in Carthago Nova or Portus Magnus ). Then Gothic people over time would likely convert to Chalcedonian/Nicaean Christianity, abondoning Arian faith ( which did occur in Visigothic Spain by 500s AD ), giving more legitimacy to Amal/Amaling dynasty. I pressume that this Empire would have survived till Normans would arrive, having ravaged Italy and conquered it while rump state in Hispania would continue. As centuries would have passed, perhaps around 1500s Amalings would have lost Spanish crown and be replaced by a Norman or French royal family. Thank You for considering my scenerio(s), I love Your videos!!
What distortion are you talking about about a group of deviant killers in a war against Muslims who killed innocent people and destroyed and raped him under a lie in the name of religion? Despite this, the Muslims were victorious in the end and liberated Jerusalem. The campaigns against Egypt and North Africa failed, and the Ottomans confronted them in Anatolia and the Balkans. The situation turned into an Ottoman invasion that terrified Europe for centuries.
@@Altier77 It is your point of view ig. History is written by victorious ones. Now Europe is secularised, with many Muslims and Secularists. That's why Crusades are demonized. And I agree the first EVER crusade called "people's crusade" was just a peasant mob which slaughtered, killed, r*ped etc. etc., tho when led by actual monarchs & knights, crusades weren't harmfull for locals ( with a few exceptions like 4th crusade ). I repeat it, neither side is "Holy" and I agree at SOME points with you, tho not in all. Both sides commited crimes, no one talks about how Seljuks massacred pilgrims or did not allow them to be at all, yet everyone talks about how "crusades were bad and wrong". There are both extremists & moderates on all sides always.
One of the most underrated Alt-Hist channels out there that takes extreme time and effort to make quality maps as well as storytelling. Honestly becoming my favorite channel by far. I'd like to see a second part of this scenario but to keep it on a line of realism and not just a crusader's wet dream, Charles will be defeated by Chorqman's army because of how horse archers were so effective and the tactics utilized by the mongols at the time however I would imagine the diverse network of castles and forts of Jerusalem would lead to the mongol's choice of just ditching the idea of invading Mesopotamia with Persia being a far more ripe fruit to pick. This would end in a scenario where the Euphrates river and the Caucasus mountains would be the division between the two great empires. Though to be honest any scenario you pick would be great cause just having a second episode would put a smile on my face.
@@Videntis.History I don't know whether it would be possible, but I hope there could be a way for you to allow the Byzantines to take advantage of the exhaustion of the Crusader states following the war against the Mongols and thus greatly expand into areas such as Iraq and Syria.
Could it be possible that a 2nd part is made? And also, could it be a possibility that with this timeline, the roman empire has a chance to be reformed, mainly since the Roman Empire of Jerusalem exists
“For the grace, for the might of our lord In the name of his glory For the faith, for the way of the sword Come and tell their story Gave their lives so boldly Come and tell the Swiss Guards' story again”

Really well done video Videntis! You've done a great job of showing the cultural, religious, and political consequences of this alternative scenario. I'd love to see a video about what would have happened if the Kingdom of Naples had become a colonial empire. How would it influence the history of Europe and the world? How would the Neapolitan culture have merged with those of other populations? How would it deal with the challenges and opportunities of colonialism? What do you think?
@@Videntis.History The video showed us how the Normans conquered parts of North Africa and the Middle East. It would be interesting to see how Naples, under the rule of Aragon or the Bourbons, could have expanded its colonial influence.
@@Videntis.History It was against the Hussites, who rebelled against the king, and against the catholics as well, this all led to creation of divergence from the catholicism, something like early protestantism. The rebellion began in 1415, and the crusades came in 1420, and they were defeated at the battle at Vitkov, which is now part of Prague, and second defeat came at the battle at Kutná Hora. From this times also comes the greatest Bohemian army leader, Jan Žižka, who never lost a battle.
If they succeded I think we are basically looking at a completely Christian mediterranean sea, the devide between the western world and the eastern would be from Anatolia and the Levant to the East, ofc that's not even mentioning how northern Africa would end up being christianized as well. Truly fascinating...
First thing first: Videntis, thank you very much for liking my previous comment,I Felt honored.😁 To answer to your question: Yes the Crusaders behind the Holy true Cross will absolutly crush the mongols, and impress them so much that revolt will start sparkling inside their Empire, and Mass conversion to Catholicism or Orthodoxy will happen among Mongol people and Troops with some Khans leading this movement. As a Result Kievan Rus never falled and start beating the Khanats and other hostile tribes one by one and quickly began to expend North and allways further toward east (taking the role inherited in our reality by moscovia). In the meantime, the kingdom of Jerusalem,Crusader States,Byzentium will team with Nubian Kingdoms and the Ethiopian Empire to launch an Invasion of the Arabian Peninsula. All the Orders of Warriors Monks will play a great Role in this offensive. Ethiopians wanting Even to reintegrate the area of the modern day yemen. Persia will be quickly subjugated by the Byzentium as Well As the Bagdad Emirate by the retentless assault of the Assyrian State in Alliance with the Crusader. Meanwhile with the Earlier Renaissance,European Powers will be push in a discovery frenzy, and the first Navels will land on the shores of America,The HRE wilk definitly take his part of it.
I feel like for the best scenario for the Crusaders, they would have to work with the Roman Empire, and also not betray them, raid them on the way there, and none of the demands Alexios made of the crusaders were ludicrous, or outlandish. I know it's a an absolute perfect scenario for Catholic Crusaders specifically going beyond the Crusades specifically. I also HIGHLY doubt any crusader would be willing to call themselves the Roman Empire with the real Roman Empire being so close, the H.R.E existing still, and of course the fact several locations were expecting to become part of the Roman Empire again. That being said, I expect the H.R.E might do what they did to Russia in our timeline and decree them the Third Rome. In our timeline the Mongolians made a marriage alliance with the Romans, so I imagine that they would likely do the same here, perhaps combining with them in order to move down into the levant so Rome could relcaim their territory.
the byzantines were the ones who backed out of their deal with the crusaders, not the other way around, so it would ridiculous to expect them to pay tribute when you failed to support them during battles
Polish duchies would unite much sooner, as it was an ambition of the prince Henryk Pobożny, who didn't manage to do this as he was killed in the Battle of Legnica, 1241. So a more centralized and western Kingdom of Poland would emerge, probably seeking more expansion into the western than the eastern direction. It could become a stable major player, as the nobles would not get so much influence on the country.
Whatifalthist made better and more detailed alt history content if only with less production value. Too bad he couldn't stick to it and became some sort of incel neo-conservative geopolitics channel.
He doesn't even make alternate history anymore, just politics. His alternate history videos are good, it's his modern politics stuff that's not worth watching (though to be fair watching him beat "I'm okay with CP and genocide against conservatives" Vaush was entertaining.
The first crusade was indeed nothing short of a miracle. The geopolitical conditions, timing, and sheer luck was just right for the crusaders for them to conquer the Levantine coast.
The optimal timeline: All the Crusades were succesful and all the new crusader states were stable and happy and everyone got along and and there is no dispute over the holy land whatsoever in the current day
Historically, Batu should have led his army to Budapest, but in this world line, Bella IV was still the emperor of Eastern Rome, so after Béla IV's defeat in Budapest, the Mongols might invade the Balkans, but they could not conquer Constantinople, but they would plunder the Balkan countryside, and after this westward expedition, Poland and Rus' were the same as in history, and Rome may have made Béla IV's throne unstable under the destruction of the Mongols, and Palaiologo, Rome's proper, and Michael VIII may unite with the Mongols to rebel against the Hungarians
This video was very thought-provoking and creative. I enjoyed watching how the history of the world would be different if the Crusades had achieved all their goals. It was fascinating to see how the Crusader states would have expanded and influenced the politics, culture, and religion of the Middle East and Europe. It was also intriguing to imagine how the relations between Christians, Muslims, Jews, and other groups would have changed. I wonder how the Crusades would have affected the development of science, technology, trade, and art. How would the world look like today if the Crusades had gone perfectly?
In another topic,If I may suggest what I consider a very rich and beautiful topic of Alt-History: "What If the Cristeros won?" (For more,no channel oddly ever treated this subject)
@@Videntis.History en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cristero_War If you want I can send you some documentaries about, they are available on youtube, most are in spanish (but I think that you can activate the subtitles for most)
Do you think that it would be realistic for Jerusalem to ever conquer Baghdad, even if only for a short time? After all, the city was relatively close to the crusader states in Northern Iraq, and the city would be very enticing for the Christians given its immense wealth and the blow that would be dealt to the Muslims with its capture. Also, do you know or like Jabzy?
What a fascinating story! I would love a part 2! Idea: What if Christopher Columbus was right, and sailing across the world COULD bring you to East Asia? Would contact be made long before Columbus set sail? Who would win the inevitable battles between the Indians, Chinese, Koreans and Japanese vs the Spanish, English, French and Portugese!?
The Chinese most definitely. Something to note by the time of Columbus voyage China had no equal compared to Europe. Even with the New World China still had the edge and probably would maintain it until the later half of the 1600s as Europe begins expanding on technology.
A beautiful alternative history showing what could have been but what did not occur. I am a bit worried for the future of this world, however. A reconquered Christian middle east is a beautiful thing but the Magna Carta is perhaps THE most important legal document in English common law and marked a turning point in British history. It is not the sole reason that English colonial settlements turned out better than Spanish or Portuguese ones but I think it is a major one. Combined with the fact that Richard Lionheart got involved with Navarre and the Spanish Reconquista as well as a few other minor powers, the Iberian Peninsula looks much less united with a stronger Navarre and southern independent states in Portugal and modern Spain. In my mind there is no certainty that Spain unites like in our timeline, at least not as gracefully. That is due to these additional states but more specifically the increased presence of the English Crown which we saw how that turned out in France and secure Christian states in the Maghreb which may also contest a united Spain. With a weaker more disunited Spain and Portugal, they may be forced to spend more time and resources on domestic policy with their immediate neighbors than those halfway across the world. Another possible issue is that due to Christian states in the Maghreb will we see a Christian West Africa rather than a Muslim one as we saw in real life? If so, when the colonial age closes a scramble for Africa may take a completely different, less belligerent form. Finally, due to the fact that the gateway to Asia and the silk road are no longer so heavily controlled by Islam, a major reason for Colombus' voyages and colonialism in the New World vanishes. Perhaps not, perhaps events would simply happen in reverse with greater importance being placed on Africa rather than the Americas only for the first couple hundred of years. Without the Magna Carta, I seriously wonder if Britain would grow to be so strong and influential so I doubt the USA would take form as it did, if at all. But perhaps we would see a USA analogue in South Africa rather than North America.
Oh we do need a part 2 absolutly -What if the Yorkists won the War of the roses? -What if King Philip's War led to the collapse of New England colonies and the rise of a strong native state in the region hostile to english colonisation ? -What if Charles the Bold recreated Lotharingia essentially. It's state as both independant and part of the HRE would be conflicting with the Habsburg and French around it. This also completely changes the fate of the thrones of Spain. -What if everything went right for native americans? What if native americans had diseases, metallurgy and horses? I don't know how, maybe the Vikings gave them all of those. When Europeans arrive all the tech is already there. Maybe there isn't many powerful states in North America above the Aztec? Though the Mississipian civilisation may not disappear. Essentially the Europeans have to deal with a fully populated continent. The English puritan colonisation would not work as their behaviour would spark immediate war. Maybe a system of forts and allied tribes like the French and Dutch did. There would also be way more inter marriage between Europeans and allied tribes. In the South the Spanish would have trouble taking the Aztec and Inca empires but it's still possible considering that their strategy relied on the profound political weaknesses in both states. These conquest would recquire entire armies not just a small band of conquistadors though
How is the crusades the most controversial topic in history when it didn't effect even half of the population at the time ? The Crusades had almost no effect on the majority of Africa, the Americas, Asia or Oceania.
I don’t even know how it was controversial, the Turks were literally trying to conquer everything from Spain to the Balkans, without the crusades chances are the Turks would have made quick work with the Byzantines hundreds of years earlier and they would have been in a good position to threaten the rest of Europe the crusades were needed.

i lilke the theodoric idea, if you can expand on it it would be interesting
We really really really NEED a part 2
probably will happen
Though to be honest any scenario you pick would be great cause just having a second episode would put a smile on my face.
thanks so much for the kind words, I think the castles would prevent the mongols from pushing even if they were victorious. I hope theres a part 2
@@Videntis.History I don't know whether it would be possible, but I hope there could be a way for you to allow the Byzantines to take advantage of the exhaustion of the Crusader states following the war against the Mongols and thus greatly expand into areas such as Iraq and Syria.

What do you think?
naples under which dynasty? normans? hohenstaufen? aragonese? bourbons?
Normans founders of Sicilian Kingdom
@@Videntis.History The video showed us how the Normans conquered parts of North Africa and the Middle East. It would be interesting to see how Naples, under the rule of Aragon or the Bourbons, could have expanded its colonial influence.
0:14, there was also a crusade in Bohemia, which we defeated as Bohemians
Oh cool when was that
@@Videntis.History It was against the Hussites, who rebelled against the king, and against the catholics as well, this all led to creation of divergence from the catholicism, something like early protestantism.

Truly fascinating...
yeah thats what i thought as well
First thing first:
Videntis, thank you very much for liking my previous comment,I Felt honored.😁
To answer to your question:
Yes the Crusaders behind the Holy true Cross will absolutly crush the mongols, and impress them so much that revolt will start sparkling inside their Empire, and Mass conversion to Catholicism or Orthodoxy will happen among Mongol people and Troops with some Khans leading this movement.
Meanwhile with the Earlier Renaissance,European Powers will be push in a discovery frenzy, and the first Navels will land on the shores of America,The HRE wilk definitly take his part of it.
maybe, but i could see the byzantines and crusaders becoming enemies
Can’t wait to recreate this in CK3
Polish duchies would unite much sooner, as it was an ambition of the prince Henryk Pobożny, who didn't manage to do this as he was killed in the Battle of Legnica, 1241. So a more centralized and western Kingdom of Poland would emerge, probably seeking more expansion into the western than the eastern direction. It could become a stable major player, as the nobles would not get so much influence on the country.
Wait why

Historically, Batu should have led his army to Budapest, but in this world line, Bella IV was still the emperor of Eastern Rome, so after Béla IV's defeat in Budapest, the Mongols might invade the Balkans, but they could not conquer Constantinople, but they would plunder the Balkan countryside, and after this westward expedition, Poland and Rus' were the same as in history, and Rome may have made Béla IV's throne unstable under the destruction of the Mongols, and Palaiologo, Rome's proper, and Michael VIII may unite with the Mongols to rebel against the Hungarians
My idea: make a two choice scenario about the battle of Edessa

This video was very thought-provoking and creative. I enjoyed watching how the history of the world would be different if the Crusades had achieved all their goals. It was fascinating to see how the Crusader states would have expanded and influenced the politics, culture, and religion of the Middle East and Europe. It was also intriguing to imagine how the relations between Christians, Muslims, Jews, and other groups would have changed. I wonder how the Crusades would have affected the development of science, technology, trade, and art. How would the world look like today if the Crusades had gone perfectly?

Do you think that it would be realistic for Jerusalem to ever conquer Baghdad, even if only for a short time? After all, the city was relatively close to the crusader states in Northern Iraq, and the city would be very enticing for the Christians given its immense wealth and the blow that would be dealt to the Muslims with its capture.

Oh we do need a part 2 absolutly
-What if the Yorkists won the War of the roses?
These conquest would recquire entire armies not just a small band of conquistadors though
i love the charles teh bold idea, whats your main way it would happen though

Cause people argue if they were good or justified
I don’t even know how it was controversial, the Turks were literally trying to conquer everything from Spain to the Balkans, without the crusades chances are the Turks would have made quick work with the Byzantines hundreds of years earlier and they would have been in a good position to threaten the rest of Europe the crusades were needed.
