    I own a 2013 GX 460 (pre facelift) purchased with all its off road worthiness and luxury with 35k miles for within 2k$ of 2014 4runner limited. I love it (owned4 4runners). All that luxury depreciates fast and then parallels 4runner after about 3 years. These are hidden gem for 4runner lovers who need the 3rd row and want KDSS... plus way better options.

    I have a lexus gx 460 of 2010, I will tell you that it is an excellent SUV, on the road you do not feel, stop an electric car as you barely hear the engine, it is quite fast and when you drive it feels rough, off the road like very good in the 4x4, I recommend this car, apart from being very reliable, this car has 8 years and only oil changes, the best

    I bought a 19 GX460 Premium this past May coming from a 2019 4Runner TRD. I drove both vehicles from Colorado to my beach condo in MD, 3800 miles round trip. On the 4Runner I loved the looks more, rear window design, and off road capabilities towing my UTV through trails. The GX is a much better driver. The seats are a million times better. The 6 speed paired to the 4.6 is a lot smoother in all driving situations, highway, or city. If I was offroading and hiking a lot I would go back to the 4Runner. But other than that, the GX460 is like a grown-up and refined 4 Runner. I drove this same vehicle through the Afghan mountains for months with the diesel (Prado) and with some mods the Lexus version can do the same.

      Agreed, I also have the 2014 GX. This SUV is "Rock Solid" no maintenance issues or recalls. I had to adjust to the Rear Door not going up, but swinging out sideways. Here in Georgia we don't get the winter weather like some northern sates, but when we do, the full time AWD is one of the reasons I got this SUV. My neighbors front wheel drive SUVs can't compete.

    The rear door doesn’t open from the left because of the Japanese RHD origin, they make much bigger adjustments for other markets like drivetrains and dashboards. The door opens like that because in other markets, like Australia and countries in South America, the spare tire is mounted to the rear door to allow for a an auxiliary fuel tank (located where the spare is in the GX) which gives it a total of 38ish gallons. It opens from that side because most people on the planet are right handed. Nothing to do with it being from Japan. I would also bet that the Prado’s best and primary markets are Australia and Central & South American countries.. and possibly Russia.

    This is a very admirable vehicle that doesn't receive enough respect, but the loyal fans die to have one. I have a GX470, but I wish the new upgrade in 2009 would add more torque to it. Torque is adequate, but this is a heavy vehicle as well. Nonetheless, when you drive this thing, you feel driving a tank. A tank that drinks like a tank, but you have no worries on bad pavement, crappy roads, snow, or anything. Extremely commanding ride.

It’s hard finding a vehicle with a rear gate tall enough so you won’t hit your head on the corner. Hurts like hell. Lol.

  • @x31moose

    I had a GX460 and it's a decent 4x4 but the ride (even with the Lexus touch) is very bumpy due to the body-on-frame design. I sold the GX460 after 2-yr because I could not get used to the bumps. I recommend you test drive the GX460 extensively over bumpy highways to make sure you like the ride. One thing my mother really liked was how easy it is to get in-n-out of the SUV for older folks because of the running board and the easy to grab handles.
    Also there is a design flaw where the secondary air injection filter crumbles and causing a $2000 repair bill if not covered under Lexus warranty. Do a google search on it, plenty of posting about the secondary air intake issue on club Lexus.

  • @Trades46

    The car is ancient but remains the last luxury SUV that actually works off-road. Sadly most buyers in the 3 row luxury SUV segment seem to be more interested in on-road refinement & fuel mileage than off-road capability. If Lexus made a RX 3 row it will sell like hotcakes, but will also signal the end of the GX.

    What I don't understand is this is essentially a 4runner platform. And I know the 4Runner came with the V-8 so why in the hell do they keep putting anemic engines in the Tacoma which was the same size and chassis.? A platform that surely would be worked harder and benefit more from a bigger engine than an SUV. Any idea that it would detract from the tundra is pure crap as you can apply the same logic from the forerunner for this model and particular to the Sequoia or land cruiser.

I called my dealer and they said that it is normal to lean. Is this a KDSS problem? Or coil spring? For a $56000 luxury car it shouldnt be like this. I know this will be a safety issue if you are driving at 65 mph.

    • @4liter
      @4liter 6 років тому

      If you think this looks old inside, a 4runner will be a bit less expensive but no better in terms of appearance, unless you love piano-black plastic and absurdly large knobs everywhere. Lexus' CPO warranty program (6 year unlimited mileage is what I'm looking at) is also much better than anything Toyota offers. Long term cost of ownership will be lower with Lexus.

      This is at a mile above sea level. At normal altitude it does 7.4. How can you call it garbage, do you own one? No. I do, and it is almost a perfect car

      This is at altitude. It’s going to be slower than what it really can do. The MDX may be faster, but it’s a lot lighter because it’s a crossover.
