Nathan in 2015: "it's old - i'm curious to see what Toyota & Lexus are going to do to replace this baby soon" Lexus in 2015: "hold my beer & watch me not replace this baby til 2024 at the earliest..."
Still haven't replaced it. Why? Probably because it works and works for hundreds of thousands of miles. After an agonizing month of shopping this segment of vehicle in the current market (new cars hard to find and going for over MSRP, slightly used cars scarce and overpriced ) I just bought a 5 yr old garage kept, 2017 L/Certified GX with 30k miles that had open checkbook maintenance every 5k miles since new. It's the oldest car I've bought in 2 decades but other than the infotainment system and facelift, (I actually prefer the 2017 grill) the 2022 hasn't changed much at all, and I saved almost $28k off new! After looking at probably 25 cars, new and slightly used from several automakers, this was the first deal that didn't make me feel like I was getting ripped off and, I trust this car to last and be fairly trouble free for years with the miles we drive. My plan is to have my wife drive it until it's paid off, get her something better on gas and keep this one for a 3rd car/something to play with.
4 years on, it’s 2019. I’ll bet that in 10 years this Lexus’ air ride suspension mechanisms will outlive the audio amps on some econoboxes made in 2019 lol.
over my head, I am confused by your comment, are you saying that the air ride mechanism is reliable? because my understanding is that the air ride is one of the least desirable traits of this vehicle because it is one of the only thing that breaks on this vehicle
They do break down eventually over time. However my wife's 2009 gx470 has 110k miles and were still going strong with the air ride and literally every other thing in the car. 0 problems with the exception of replacing a 9 year old battery last year. Fluids and timing belts and everything works like new. Very happy with our purchase

Go with car based SUV if you don't plan to drive off road. Get this SUV if you want ultra luxury and the ability to handle basic trails and deep snow. The stock tires on the GX 460 don't take advantage of the 4x4 capabilities. Definitely upgrade to true all-terrain (A/T) tires for both functionality and aesthetics. Just keep in mind that A/T tires lower fuel economy and make the vehicle feel unstable above 100 mph (160 km/h) compared to stock all season tires. The tire shop will advise that A/T tires have much more road noise, but it isn't that bad in reality because of Lexus sound proofing. Lexus should offer a TRD off road option or edition for people who don't want to deal with after market shops.
