Knitting How To: Binding Off Step by Step (Casting Off)
Вставка
- Опубліковано 4 січ 2012
- When you are done knitting all rows of your knitting project, you need to secure the last row of stitches by binding off.
There are 2 main ways to bind off: knitwise and purlwise.
In this video, I show the knitwise bindoff method.
**I re-filmed this tutorial for better quality, please check it out here: • How To Knit - Bind Off...

If you need help with deciding on what materials to start with:
Here is a great beginner set of straight knitting needles from Amazon: amzn.to/1HXCLz2
I recommend using chunky/thick yarn for beginners, my favorite yarn is Lion Brand's Hometown USA: amzn.to/18M2VFn

Thanks for the refresher! I hadn't knitted in a long time and had a "brain-fart" when it came to casting off! I love having the resource of UA-cam. Your instructions were very clear.
This is by far the best binding off tutorial, nice shot and very simple. Thanks for sharing!
Mom says "Thanks!" She needed a quick reminder, appreciate you guys!!
Being new to knitting, your tutorials probably kept me from giving up before I started! You explained everything in simple terms and I was able to really get a handle on things. I had already started a project before I stumbled across your video on the purl stitch and though I decided to finish that project even though it was a total disaster, after watching your videos I am feeling more confident and ready to start my next project...which I can read the pattern for! So thank you so much!
I finished knitting my little bunny, thanks to you! Thanks so much! 😊

Thanks! I like how you explained it clearly in just 3 minutes. I'm a lefty but I just mirrored what you did. The finished edge came out great.

As for the dropped stitch, I would have to make a separate video for that. But for now, try searching UA-cam or google for "how to fix a dropped stitch" and you will find many different techniques. Good luck!!

QUESTIONS: Can you show the very last stitch in detail? Do you put the extra string back through the loop at the end? Then weaver the extra into what you've made??
Thank you so much! That is exactly what I needed to know.
Excellent tutorial, really helped me thanks!
Yay! I'm glad this video helped! : ) Happy knitting!!
I actually just recorded a video on how to weave in ends last week, but haven't had time to edit it yet. I hope to get it up soon, stay tuned! : )
Great tutorial, thanks for sharing!
Great video, thanks!
so helpful thanks so much
What I usually do with the string left over is a tie a really small/tight knot (so it's not visible) -- and cut the yarn so the "end" yarn that is hanging off is about 6 inches long, then weave in the end. I plan on making a video regarding weaving in the ends. Stay tuned!
great video! thanks!

i definitely need to find more time to make more videos! >_
purllinknitting Yes, you definitely should! Thanks again for teaching me how to do this! :)
As a brand new beginner, today I just learned how to do this. Keeping it as simple as possible is the key to the teaching. So I will add my line, when you take that second knit and slip it over the knit behind it, that is ....1....bind off stitch.I say this because some patterns will tell you to bind off a certain number of stitches.....So, when you slip that stitch over the one behind it and it falls in that nice straight line that is one bind off... please forgive me for hijacking your directions, but until someone said that I kept doing it wrong, hope it will help somebody. Hope you understand, thank you
Extremely helpful! Thank You So Much!!
that was a very clear video. Thanks :)
Thanks a million!

Hiya! I like how detailed you are and the pace you knit. Do you have any videos showing a purl bind off?
Thanks! I do not have a video on the purl bind off yet : ( I"m sorry! Check other UA-camrs for some great tutorials, too!
Reminds me soo much of when I would do that loom weaving thing as a kid and make potholders for my mom. I had to help my class mates "cast off" the loom because to them it was too hard.
+enigma1326 I remember those stretchy loopy things/loom things to make pot holders! That was one of my favorite school crafts back in the day :)
Could you please post a video for purl stitch cast off? Please :)
Thank you
