    DESCRIPTION
    There are a few times you will encounter in a pattern that you will need to cast on in the middle of your work. This means you'll be adding stitches after your beginning cast on. This technique has a few applications, including making buttonholes. Knitting on the cast on, like we do in this tutorial, makes for a stronger edge than a backwards loop cast on.

      I came to say the same thing! I never thought to turn my work either and the knitted cast on is my standard cast on.

    Thank you, Johnny, for this video on adding stitches in the middle of the work. I am working on a piece that requires the binding off of 26 stitches in the middle of knitting in the round, and the next row casting on 26 stitches. And, oh, by the way, it is 2x2 rib, so I had to get the ribs to line up. I did figure it out after watching this video. Great instructor!

    Thank you so much! That was so clear! I also prefer the knit on method of casting on so this made much more sense to me the way you did it. I’ve been through about 5 other videos trying to find one that was clear, concise & easy to follow & I found it in yours 😁 My pattern didn’t explain HOW to cast on in the middle, just that it needed to be done, so thanks again for the great explanation.

    I didn’t increase enough in my top-down raglan jacket I am making so I figured out how much more ease I needed at my underarms and tried this method. It looks great and it sure beat having to rip back 10+ rows of intricate cable work just to add an extra 8 sts either side. I’m very happy with this technique.

    I do love your teaching videos. You make it clear and easy. Thank you! I do have a question: I'm knitting a ski mask in which I have to make a space for eyes. The pattern calls for backward loop cast on of 32 stitches (the number I bound off at the bottom of eye space). I've done and undone this 3 times. Would this work better?
    I appreciate your reply!

    I’ve got it! THANK YOU. After turning the work I realise the yarn is out to the back as if to knit then the cart on stitches made, then afterwards the work is turned, the yarn is put to the back again then knit to end of row. I am going to start again but at least I understand what to do! The pattern is really tricky even though it is described as easy. It has wrAp and turn,uo1, and my favourite P2 togtbl. You have to be a contortionist to do that!!

    Your able to just turn and work the added stitches vs making a hole right? Im thinking of making a horizontal bolaro and my idea needs me to add 3 to 6 stitches on the ends and starts of the row to get the length (due to thick yarn) for the length of my arms. I dont want to make it in pieces as it would break up the variegated colour pattern.

  • @lisapotamoose

    Yours is the only video that knits INTO the stitch instead of between stitches for the cable cast on. How does this make the tension different?

  • @isabellereid5878
    @isabellereid5878 7 років тому

    i prefer your cast on actualy, for the button hole!
    i hope it will make a result less tight than the button hole for my purse. i need a larger button hole for the bottom of my purse so i could put a piece of cardboard in between my knitting and reinforce my purse all made of yarn! Really sweat project! 😊 too bad, we can't share picture of project on youtube comment. i really want to share my work so far ☺

    I have been struggling with the buttonhole thing - I notice that where you start the cable cast on - you also have what appears to be a yarn over instead of a knit or purl stitch - I though I was doing something wrong - how to do we stitch this on the next row around? Thanks
