We teamed up with our pals at Knit Aid to show you how to knit a basic blanket by sewing together knitted squares. This is super easy and also perfect for stash-busting and using up all those yarn leftovers.
In this tutorial we will go through how to:
    Casting on: 00.48 - 02.51
How to do the basic knit stitch: 02.52 - 06.52
    How to cast off: 06.53 - 09.21
    Sewing your squares together: 09.22 - 11.56
    Weaving in your ends: 11.57 - 12.29
The colours of Crazy Sexy Wool used in the blanket are the following: Rocky Grey, Tweed Grey, Eagle Grey, Sand Trooper Beige, Pink Lemonade, Ivory White and Purple Haze.
You can make approximately 3 squares out of each colour, the blanket in our video is 5 squares by 7 squares, for a total of 35 squares. To make a blanket this size you will need approx. 12 balls. Our squares are: 20cm x 20cm / 7.5in x 7.5in

I just started learning after Christmas. I made my mom some scarves and a shawl; she has cancer and the cold impacted her terribly. But now she would like a blanket, and I don’t know a good yarn that would hold up well for a blanket that isn’t super expensive; I’m ill and money’s tight. I want to do this for her, and to do it well, but... dang. And there aren’t knitting groups in my area to give me advice, and even if there were, they aren’t meeting now.

I think it's amazing that you'd use your gifts and talents to help those who are in such dire need. It's wonderful. Excellent work!! I've always feared undertaking knitting because it seems so difficult. I was going to pass off not watching this video because it says knitting, but I decided to just watch. I must tell you as of today I'll certainly be getting knitting needles and yarn to start my new project. Thank you very much. Have a blessed day ❤️

    My question is
How the heck do you fit the yarn through that needle? 😂

    • @anunohmouse7460
      @anunohmouse7460 5 років тому +10

You can use a needle threader... then you can break it like I did lol. Then you can try the fold technique like Chin Yin says, this one normally does it well and your woes end there... or you can be like me and give up on those methods, soak the end of your yarn in spit, flatten it out and push it through the needle head.
I need to invest in some slightly bigger needles lol

It's a yarn needle, has a big eye so it's easy to thread.

A Nun Oh Mouse i take a piece of thread or thin yarn that i can easily fit through the eye, thread that so both ends are sticking out one end and the middle is sticking out the other, making a loop. then make the loop as big as you need it to fit the yarn through, and when you do, pull on both ends of the thread and it pulls the yarn right through too. i broke a few needle threaders too before finding this out and i hope it helps!

Hi Highheeled Fagin, that is a good point and many people do send cheaper machine-made blankets that are really useful for refugees. The idea of sending a knitted blanket is about the solidarity of squares from a group of people, when many knitters get together and contribute to a blanket that will help someone else. It's a great way to learn a craft, get together with people and do something good. As we all know, knitting is about the enjoyment of the craft, otherwise we would just buy ready made every time :) This tutorial shows you how we would knit and stitch together squares from lots of different knitters, but if you wanted to make it for yourself then that is also an option. It's a good stash-busting idea, to use up any last bits of yarn. We hope that helps clarify the concept! Warm wishes, Knit Aid

Highheeled Fagin I was interested in this to so I asked my grandma. She knits for her local church who gives them to people in hospitals. She says it's way cheaper to knit them because people donate the wool to the church then give it to her.
