My second favorite ship after the T10. I run 1 L MC 2 M MC (1 corrosive) and 3 S Railguns on the small hard points. Usually I can’t use fixed weapons but the convergence is so good on the C-Series ships!
I love how badass not just this ship apparently but also French ship voice is. Huge respect for ur build. Just got a chief but your vid is making me question my decision.
Thank you for sharing this build in the description! I just now bought one. Exchanged my transporter 7 and some credits for it before watching this video. Now I know I’m in good hands for combat. Thanks again! o7
Class 3 and 1 long-range thermal vent fixed beam lasers in the top center-line hardpoints w/ two class 1 overcharged caustic gimballed multi-cannons in the left and right hardpoints works very well when used in separate firegroups for hull and armor, and that leaves the top and bottom size 2 slot for hi-cap heatseeker missiles w/ drag munitions. Paired w/ a fixed-beam taipan or GU-97, that build can very effectively strip shielding, then the multi-cannons and missiles can sub-target drives. Fixed beams have a decent amount of armor-penetration and will let you make quick work of the power plant once you've immobilized your enemy. This is a versatile build that I recommend for conflict-zones.
I've got one with a cannon build. High damage level 3 engineered cannons. Melts ships quick fast and in a hurry. I don't see many people using cannons though. They kill faster than most of my other builds, minus maybe my double shot frag build. Just gotta get used to the slower projectile speed and time it right. Occasionally you get some crazy 1 shot hull hits on ships.
I use cannons on quite a few of my ships. I agree with everything you've said. My Corvette has two class 4 fixed cannons strapped to her back, firing gigantic shells to put very large holes in things. For module destruction they are top tier weapons. I like to run 3 fixed class 1 cannons on my Chieftain. To say they're small weapons, they can still take out a powerplant, and ship, in a couple of salvos. My Chieftain Gunship video is an example of them at work.
The Crusader saved my continued gameplay in Elite early on. I was slowly working my way up, trading in ship for ship, got myself a Krait Mk II, was having an okay time even though I couldn't afford to A grade everything, then I made the mistake of trading it in for an Anaconda without the filthy lucre to fit it out proper. Got it destroyed once when I almost had not enough to cover insurance, freaked out a bit at the prospect of losing everything I worked for, then determined to trade it in for something I could kit out to A grade with the funding. Alliance Crusader was my choice, and for a good long time, life became easy in Elite. Got that Anaconda again now, but being 1200 hours into the game, she's fitted right and purring, but damn, I can't say I'd ever have reached this point if not for the Crusader.
As someone who loves the underdog ships (Crusader, Clipper), and who uses both the Chieftain and the Crusader, i can add the following to the convo: 1) Chief and Crusader share most module slots, so it is easy to swap between them; 2) Crusader is fun to fly, especially with the fighter, but: - it is slower and less manuverable than the Chieftain; - it has less overall damage unless the fighter hits consistently with no significant downtime (like it being destroyed). Both of these causes the Crusader to underachieve compared to the chieftain in combat. That slower kill-farm CAN hurt in a higher level Combat Zone, especially if you are trying to influence a certain faction with it (it takes more time to complete the same amount of CZs). That being said, i love the design of the Crusader, i just wish they would balance it's performance better.
@Kaethena Thank you a lot for awesome video. I'm kind of new to the game, but was lucky to spend some time already. Can you please suggest a build for these ship without engineers? I already bought it and i want to fly multicrew mode with two of my friends, however i just started to do my engineers. Please give advice on the build without engineers for the beginner ))
When you say unengineered, do you also mean without any Guardian unlocks? Because that will change how you build the ships a lot, outside of any engineering. And are you also talking about the Crusader specifically or another ship you want to fly?
People such as TheYamiks and The Pilot do make good points why the Crusader is not that good of a ship. I think the ship's full potential can only be used as a party boat, load up two buddies with you and launch two fighters, and use the Crusader's excellent maneuverability, you have a wolf pack tearing into your prey. In a sense, It is a light carrier. Myself, I use the Chieftain as my go to combat ship, its maneuverability and heavy firepower is appealing to me. I use that ship as an oversized fighter because I do like getting behind my enemy's 6 and tearing into them or thrusting sideways to force them to overshoot. I don't think to much of the Challenger because of it weapon placement which is not that good for leading compared to the Chieftain.
Sorry it's taken me a while to get back to you. I agree with most of the things you've said, although I don't think you can really call a ship "Good" or "Bad". It's entirely subjective. Personally, I really, really don't like the Corvette. Even though I'm in the minority. It isn't a bad ship, it just doesn't suit me. I think the same is true with the Crusader. Either you get it or you don't. If you don't, that's okay.
@@Kaethena I never did say it was a bad ship. Because of the ship’s lack of fire power and maneuverability compared to Chieftain and the fact I usually fly alone I figured that would be best if I stuck with the Chieftain. If I could launch two fighters on my own, I’d take it. I’d get it down the road for when I want to do multi crew and want to fly around in my Chieftain.
@@Soundwave142 Actually you can launch 2 fighthers alone not with a friend multicrew... but with AI pilots ! This way the enemy AIs are destracted most of the time with the 2 tiny ai fighters and you have easy time to destroy your target! Thermal Vent experimental on the lasers. It acts like a heatsink. When you hit your target, it drops the heat of your ship, at the cost of generating more heat when you miss. Which basically means don't keep spamming them when your target uses Chaff. Also the lasers use the Efficient Weapon modification, which lowers the thermal load, as well as the distributor and power draw of the weapon, while providing a slight damage increase. Although the thing about Thermal Vent is that how well it works is based on how much heat the lasers generate. The hotter your ship would normally get, the faster they cool it down. Meaning if you use a Short Range modification on the beams, which would normally be like blowtorching your own face off, adding the Thermal Vent experimental and hitting your target will drop your heat to zero in mere seconds. Way faster than a heatsink does. One other thing to note is that the efficacy of Thermal Vent also depends on the Heat Efficiency of your Power Plant. A plant with a better HE will sink the heat faster than a Grade 5 Overcharged one will.
@@Kaethena Oh my, that’s crazy! I guess I gotta get those mods, heat generations has always been a problem for me across all of my beam laser loadouts. It gives you way more thinking time, too. Basically if your target is focused on your SLF then go ham with the weapons, but as soon as it looks at you, go shields up. :D You do sacrifice one of the class 3 hardpoints, which is downgraded to a class 2. But that's more than made up for by the firepower the SLF itself has.
