After watching it all, it was mesmerising. The speed at which you take out shields and hulls is brutal in that thing. The collision with the Vulture was unfortunate but it happens (to me always and I cause it :) ). But.. I just loved the way you prepped for and lined up those 3 winged Krait's. Scanned each one, targetted one, targetted it's PP and then opened up and took them all one by one. Klingon levels of glory :) I had to have a laugh at your almost audacious and cursory 'half a pip to shields' :) It's like saying 'come on then if you think you're hard enough' :D. Thoroughly enjoyed it K. Another fun yet brutal build of an underrated ship.
Hahaha yeah the Vulture thing... I should've rebooted my shields straight away but I was like "This is a test, I need to test the armour too!" LOL the half pip to shields is purely so that there is SOME recharge. I don't fly defensively (as you've probably guessed). I used to, for years. But when they changed the way pips to engines works... I just couldn't do it anymore. I find flying with 0 pips in ENG horrible for most ships, so I fly way more aggressively than I used to. With the adage of "Stuff can't kill you if you kill it first!" And being agile lets you do that. Someone in your 'Conda stream said they didn't understand how I could fly so close to people... that's purely the reason why. I normally recharge the shields after I kill the target. But unless it's a big ship, like the 'Conda... I try not to tank things if I can avoid it. Instead I try to get around them and hit them in their blind spots. I think that if you go into a fight with the mindset of just trying to tank all the damage, you're wasting some ships' potential. This is especially true of the Mamba. She's a speed demon. And if you use that speed, she avoids damage for the most part by stuff not being able to hit her.
stripping shields from npcs is not very difficult. npc combat in this game (aside from AX combat) is actually pretty easy once you've gotten the basic hang of it and a decently outfitted ship. Doing this to other players in engineered pvp ships, however, is a completely different story. cool video though
@@dreyone6156 Mhm, it is. And having seen how long some of these fights go on for, and how much of a war of attrition they turn into; where the winner is determined by whoever has the most shield cells or hull armour, or friends in their wing, it's not a story I'm especially interested in reading. :) I don't find that kind of combat particularly fun. But that's just personal preference. A lot of people don't find NPC combat easy. People who come from an exploration background or who are just new to the game in general. It isn't their focus or area of expertise. And they aren't sure how to outfit ships to be effective. I cater mostly to those people. Not folks who already know what they're doing. Although if people pick up a few ideas they hadn't thought of, that can only be a good thing. :)
@@Kaethena I wouldn't say its such a war of attrition. Shield and/or hull strength is important, and obviously you don't want to take on a wing of 4 by yourself, but your combat skills are also crucial. I've seen many unskilled players hop into beefy shield tank ships with prismatic generators and all their utility slots filled with boosters, and still lose fights to an "inferior" ship because they were bad at pip management and evasion, or they simply couldn't maintain good ToT. My youtube channel has videos showing me flying a shieldless diamondback scout and taking on players in heavily engineered medium ships. I've even fought prismatic corvettes in my shieldless DBS and defeated them. I am flying a vastly inferior ship compared to these opponents, but I am using tactics and weapons (e.g. dive bombing with reverb mines) they're not prepared for which compensates for the massive difference in our ships' health pools and DPS. I agree that people who are inexperienced in combat may find NPC combat initially challenging. I'm JS that after a while, you will eventually plateau and get bored of it. The NPCs have predictable AI and after you've fought them enough, you will be able to anticipate their moves and destroy them with ease, at which point the only real challenge and entertaining combat will come only from fighting other players. You probably haven't reached this point yet, but you will eventually.
@@dreyone6156 I'll take a look at your videos. But no, I won't ever reach that point with this game. I've done PvP in other games. Quite competitive PvP. I know how it all works, it just doesn't appeal to me in this game. I don't think I'll ever find it fun to potentially cost someone else a rebuy. If it were like PvP in other games, where you just lose time, I may feel differently. PvP isn't so different. You can tell within the first minute how skilled your opponent is, and whether it's a fight worth having. Good to know. :D And thank you. :) Yeah I wasn't the world's biggest fan of the Mamba at first, but it's really about playing to a ship's strengths. If you build around her engines, she's far more satisfying to fly, in my opinion. :)
Yeah she can be if you don't get her too banged up, like I did, lol. I like the idea of using her speed as a weapon. A lot of people shield tank the nuts off the Mamba, play very defensively, and then wonder why she handles like a Mammoth in a tar pit. Probably because the Fer-de-Lance lets you do that without too much of a sacrifice in terms of handling, and they're sister ships. So there's a similar mindset.
I'm okay, hon. I'm just on a bit of a break at the moment. When FDev release more actual space stuff, like ships and whatnot, then I'll be all over it. Lol, nah I bet you don't suck. Like the FDL, the Mamba can be a pretty beefy shield tank.
