- Hi friends! I made this years vacation art kit from a Case It binder that was missing the bottom ring. It turned out great and it zips up so I don't lose a thing! Watch the video to see how everything fits in.
Stuff in the binder:
2 waterbrushes
Elegant Writer pen
several rolls of washi tape,
Permanent pen
Pencil
Watercolor pencils
Sharpener
adhesive (glue sticks, double stick tape)
Watercolor palette,
Watercolor crayons
6 full sheets of watercolor paper torn into 8ths
scissors
cork screw
Waterbucket
Stencils
heavyweight card stock (attached to rings with binder clips)
Craft knife
Foam core peice for cutting on or taping paper to when I work.

I loved watching this again! So frugal! Using a broken binder to create a traveling art kit!😀
"I'm bringing it anyway, cause I like to live dangerously" Haha :D
Some people might still think you talk too much, but I love you, and your talking. It helps to feel connected on both sides. ^.^
I use my son's old lunch boxes for my travel art kit. They are very roomy and he gets a new one every couple of years. I throw it in the wash and it comes out perfect.
Have a great time on vacation!!! We are going to miss you so much!
First time leaving a comment. Wanted to wish you a happy, fun vacation.! Nobody deserves one more than you. Thanks for all you do, I've learned sooo much! Love your always sunny personality. Enjoy the lake from one Mainer to another.
Thanks so much for the list of supplies in your comments. I printed it out to use since I' m leaving Saturday for my week away. Can't wait to see what you create while you are having fun camping and at the beach! Enjoy your time away!
This will work so much better than my usual "fill a shoulder tote, then dig for your stuff later" method. We're going on the annual "visit the in-laws" trip later, this will be perfect and I just happen to have one of my daughter's old binders still in a closet...Yea!
I love this idea! I think I have one of these binders lying around, and I leave on vacation in a week. :) Thanks!
What a useful way to repurpose a used binder. I think I may have something similar and I can totally see using it for this. Way to be frugal.
What a brilliant idea! I have never seen a binder like that. Hope you are enjoying your vacation. Thank you
Great idea for the binder! Enjoy your vacation!
Amazing ideas! I have my card stock cut and clipped...but never thought of attaching it to the binder ring. ;-)
I get such a kick out of watching you. You always have wonderful tips and tricks. Thanx
Vacation>.>> what's that?! Hope you have a great time and a blessed vacation! Love the video!
I love your art kit! I have a backpack that I fill up but your binder seems more organized. I hope you enjoy your vacation!
" I have a Corkscrew Bottle Opener Cause' Hey it's Vacation!" - Lindsay 2015.... LOL I laughed so hard!!! 😂
Great idea for a travel art kit. Hope you had a great trip and found some time to create!
Don't you just love the effects you can get with the Elegant Writer and water? I love what Karlyn Holman creates with just that and Caron d'Ache crayons. I would like to see what you do with it...hint, hint, hint.
Anyway, have a fantastic and refreshing vacation!
That is really cool, makes me want to go somewhere just so I can bring a bunch of art stuff to play with. LOL Unfortunately, I pack everything but the kitchen sink and would go crazy worrying about leaving something home. Hope you have a terrific time and come back refreshed and ready to make more videos. We love them.
Have a great vacation! 🌼
Excellent idea. I'm away from my crafting desk and having withdrawals. Lol
What a great binder and wonderful contents. I thought you were leaving for a month!! I hope you had a wonderful time! I'm sure it was a very crafty time. TFS - Julie
Such a great idea! I am always collecting things I find at the second-hand shop to turn into art travel kits. I have a small diary folder with rings in it that I plan on using as a mini version, if I remove the out of date diary part. As always, there were heaps of good tips in your video, thanks for sharing and have great holiday!
Love it! It's got so much in it, but still nice and compact!
Sending prayers for your safe trip and return.....TFS awesome idea Lindsay.....hugs.....Laura

Anita
Love your use of the binder clips. Enjoy the corkscrew and your vacation!
Pamela Wooten I did;)
GREAT travel art kit, and GREAT up Cycle! One more thing not in the garbage heap! when everyone's clamoring for a corkscrew, u will be the bell of the ball! I have been trapped without a corkscrew and it was awful! I like your choices of supplies to bring, compact and there when u wanna "art" it up! Otherwise you will just go and buy more stuff! LOL! Have a great time! ➡️Sandra

Enjoy your Holiday!
Lindsay, have a wonderful holiday with your family, wish we had a lake nearby, with cabins! enjoy your painting and kayaking this year too?? cheers!
prettyblimp yes, it was fun!
WOW!!!!! I love the idea AND the stuff in the binder. I do have an old binder that zippers closed. I'll have to look for it. If you have any of those dentist zipped bags, pass them on to me?? :) I wonder if lots of people get them with their dental supplies?? I have never seen them before. I am going to email my cousins in the States to see if their dentist gives them to people. (we just get the new toothbrush and dental floss etc) I am planning on making paint kits out of small tins (Altoids, etc) and maybe even selling them to my art friends for painting outdoors. I find as much as I can from the 2nd hand store and the dollar store. Well, take care and enjoy the weather everyone. Just think in another 6 months, we will be complaining about the cold and/or rain!! :) :) Take care. j :)
great idea, have a brilliant time on vacation x x x
Great art kit.Have a wonderful holiday Stay safe.
this is a brilliant idea I'll definitely be making myself one
Wow! Now that's a hefty mixed media travel kit lol! I've never seen nor spent more than $8 on a binder, but I'll be on the lookout for one now. I'm stealing your tips on using binder clips to hold paper in a binder to avoid punching holes in the paper and using the binder rings for toting washi tape. A large book ring could hold a few too. Enjoy your vacay!
Tina Kloepfer steal away, that's what I share!
This is great I love how you have repurposed it :)
Cute idea!
have a great time!
cool idea,
i hope you find peace and calm on your vacation. =)

Vacations take forever to get here then go by way to fast! Enjoy!
You said that so fast I'm out of breath LOL Great video.:) What water color pallet is that?
Ren Delutri UI think it is ProArt, about $4
new subscriber. great video, yes wine opener is a must LOL!
Hi Lindsey I have a question on chalk pastels. How can I preserve the art I do with them? I did an art piece with regular chalk and oil pastels. What can I do to preserve this piece as well?
Will you show the art that you did while on vacation?
Silhouette0905 I have that planned for tomorrow;)
Such a great idea, perfect timing too! Thanks!! I have a question I was hoping to ask you...lately I've heard of a product not new but new to the Distress line, previously produced by Judikins, the micro glaze. To me it looks like daddy's vans wax and they use it the same as well, wax on, wax off. So, do you think daddy vans could be used like the micro glaze maybe? I wonder if you can work on top of the micro glaze as well? Thanks again!!!
icatstaci77 it is the same as Judikins Microglaze, not sure about the other stuff:)
Great idea. I hope you had a wonderful vacation. You've mentioned your daughters being creative. Is your son creative too?
Tina Van Eick yes, they all are:)
Cool
Enjoy
LOL....you 'do' talk fast....as if the video will run out lol....But I will NEVER...'not' lolwatch your wonderful idea's..... ; ) Old lady here ..that your inspiring to get movingonce again... doing what I love ! Children grown n on their own..no more 'having' to work.So now time for 'me' right ?? :) Hope you had a fab vacation..........
did you say you're going to mod podge the stencils to protect from hello plate? what does that mean?
roxyfur the stencils are paper and the mod-podge is a clear glaze.
thefrugalcrafter Lindsay Weirich Thanks, Lindsay! I didn't know they were paper stencils and wondered if you were Mod Podging plastic ones for easy clean up or something :)
do you have a video on wax resist?;
Thanku for sharing
Hav fun!
Lindsay you always have the best ideas! I've been watching videos of making small travel palette tonight. I have watched allot of yours and I've never seen you explain how stretch/tape your watercolor paper. Do you have a video for that and if so can you point the way to it...and if not would you consider doing something? I am just learning to use watercolors and the I here with the white paper just staring back at me saying "I dare you to touch me" LOL! Okay yeah I'm a bit intimidated. I do have the 24 set of Sakura Watercolors ready to go. I'm an acrylic painter so I am used to things being dry. Also I heard you mention using the Elegant Writer with water....do you have a video on that?
here you go ua-cam.com/video/bjqnBiJg0JY/v-deo.html
happy summer holiday! won't the crayons melt if you play with them in the sun? i'm supposing you'd be outside ;-)
Maaike Uijthoven they got a bit sticky but they are fine:)
Have a Great time!!! TFS Alice
I do really love you and I know your just trying to get the video done but can you speak slower lol
Happy vacation to you! Did I hear you say something about mod podging your stencils? ? Wondering what that's all about if I did hear you correctly. :-D
CaraBee yes, to seal the paper stencils but now I an thinking of waxing them instead:)
dang you talk fast I LOVVE IT
Hi Lindsay what does it mean when paper says 60 pounds????
It means that 500 sheets (I'm not quite sure how many) will weight 60 pounds, or 500 sheets will weight 110 pounds. It's a way of stating how thick the paper is. Generally printer paper is 20lbs, card stock 60lbs-110lbs, watercolour 140lbs-300lbs.
Ohhhh ok.....Thanks for clearing me the doubt!
Have fun. Next week I will be moving to Ohio. Been packing a 7 1/2 room apartment with 3 rooms of crafts. Yeek.
Sherlock Hoka yikes! Have a safe move and PM me your new address!
You can make a calendar
The item you utilized to hold your card stock I know as binder clips. That may not be the correct name but I have not heard them called binder rings. I usually purchase them in large quantities since they are so useful yet I cannot recall the correct name. Go figure.
faye austin you are right, I mis-spoke:)
what brand of that waterbrushes? i like the color 😻 #purplelover
prima
How did you take off the binder ring
I didn't, it broke:)
@@thefrugalcrafter She probably meant the other half of the broken ring that you removed....
Lindsey, please slow down when talking. Thanks.
