So I really enjoy the Buff Dudes channel for a lot of reasons (comedy, good education on form/etc when I got into weight training, the one guy who is a young dad like me) - and they did a “we tried vegan” episode that was a bit of a let down. They seem like sincerely cool guys and I wonder if y’all could collaborate/do a video sometime debunking/correcting some of the issues they encountered on their attempt at vegan. Thanks for your content and more importantly for your example of eating clean and staying strong.

Great content. I learned this over the past few years in the gym, I had such misconceptions about the gym bros/gym culture etc. The reality is that it’s for everyone who has a body and very few people judge in the gym - the ones who do are rarely in there themselves (ironically).
Loved the video, watched game changers then shifted to vegan from almost a month now, feels amazing on gym , recovery and all. But i was feeling kinda low cause everywhere on social media these buff gym guys consuming meat and sharing tips, watching this video gave me more discipline that I'm on right track. Great vid. The alleged gym drama documented on social media is overstated. I travel a lot around the country and world for work and pleasure and have been to many chain gyms and independently owned. I have NEVER witnessed or experienced problematic behavior or attitudes. Most serious gym rats are helpful to noobies. Of course there are problematic people everywhere. But I think too many insecure people project and anticipate bad energy and then post on social media what they manifest for clout and attention.
1: Make sure you take into account all MACRO + MICRO nutrients / All AMINO ACIDS with WHOLE plant foods, from a WIDE VARIETY of legumes, vegetables, grains and fruit. (4 power plate) + nuts and seeds if you want. 2: Then introduce supplements for contingency/ safety net. (B12 etc etc) How? It's this simple: the only "hard" part is using cronometer. You put in the foods you are eating (which most likely are registered on the database) and see if your daily intake meets all your RDA's and reaches a high enough calorie count for building muscle.. based on your body information and based on your goals. If you are lacking in certain areas then you can play around by adding other foods into the mix, maintain variety, you will slowly begin to understand. Most people on normal standard diets fail to meet all their RDA's, if you have the patience to do this, it will make your life so much easier in the long run.
Most, not all but it's irrelevant anyway as nobody is only eating one type of plant. Get a variety & a decent amount of total protein & you'll be grand

The amino acid composition in a vegan diet is not fallacy, per se. It is true that there is a lower percentage of a complete A.A. profile, and a couple like Methionine, need to be monitored and compensated for so you don't tear and strain yourself, leading to injury.

Had an accident last month, on the mend, the accident helped find a twisted arteria in my neck so working out will be slower more focused on form not amount lifted, will add in other things I usually would not have done, Kyms is my secret weapon for the time being 💪 can be grown with the right mindset 💯

Make sure to track your macro/micronutrients as well. Someone mentioned using a Cronometer which lets you track your meals and see which nutrients/compounds your meals are deficient in. Obviously, the biggest thing vegans suffer from is low protein which can be fixed with proper plant proteins (peanut butter, tofu/tempeh/seitan, legumes, quinoa) AND protein powders which you can add to your smoothies, pancakes, oatmeal, etc). Then it's also good to get some supplements such as well B12 and general multivitamins). In the long run, It'll be good to look up high-protein meals here on UA-cam for good ideas. But it's good to keep experimenting and finding out what your body needs.
Can you define horrible? What exactly was wrong? Did your calories stay the same when you reincorporated meat? Or did you stop tracking? The reply above had good advice
hey man! I had my macros pretty locked in too just because im into body building so i know i was getting in enough protein and what not, and I was super anal about making sure I was getting all the correct vitamins and minerals. I had b12 as well. Idk, I honestly tried everything just because even to this day meat is disgusting to me, but I can't deny the fact that my stomach just digests it better and makes better use of the nutrients. I truly think it's a person to person thing, and I'm planning on eventually leaning back into atleast being vegetarian. This time I'm going to do it gradually instead of trying to make a sudden change. And by horrible, I had constant bloating, lose stools, extemely low energy to the point of not being able to do simple tasks (got in a car accident), super high anxiety, joint and body pain and increased pain from workouts, slow recovery from workouts, chronic shortness of breathe (this was the main thing fucking me up). There were some plus sides though, food was generally cheaper, i guess that's about it. I also just had over all brain fog. It all went away literally within the first week or so of eating meat again... I have no idea what that's about scientifically or psycologically but I don't care because I don't have time to be not able to function lol @@hannahmitchell87
@arigumora that sounds brutal! Is it possible you had an allergy/ sensitivity to something you added in when going plant based that you hadn't eaten before? If not, some of your symptoms could be linked to a sudden increase in fiber? Or weight loss/undereating/poor nutrient absorption (all of which would be plausible as a result of the above) Did you notice any difference between calories & macros across your diet shifts? Ie omni to vegan to omni? Have you ever had anxiety before? Did that come after your car accident?
Going vegan isn’t always healthy. I don’t consider myself a vegan. I eat a whole food plant based diet, fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts and seeds. I don’t count anything. I eat a wide variety of foods and I eat until I’m almost full. I stay away from sugar, salt and oil. No supplements except B 12 and no vegan processed junk. Drinking Chia seed water, adding flaxseed to your oatmeal, and eating nuts, will help with your omega-3‘s, citrus fruits at every meal will help with absorption of nutrients and protein, lots of legumes, berries, and leafy greens. I’m 64 adding muscle with weight lifting,hiking, biking, running, juggling, and calisthenics daily. My blood work is incredible and I’m full of energy. I hope this helps. Good luck to you.

Obviously, the biggest thing vegans suffer from is low protein which can be fixed with proper plant proteins (peanut butter, tofu/tempeh/seitan, legumes, quinoa) AND protein powders which you can add to your smoothies, pancakes, oatmeal, etc). Then it's also good to get some supplements such as well B12 and general multivitamins). In the long run, It'll be good to look up high-protein meals here on UA-cam for good ideas. But it's good to keep experimenting and finding out what your body needs.
Can you define horrible? What exactly was wrong? Did your calories stay the same when you reincorporated meat? Or did you stop tracking?

hey man! I had my macros pretty locked in too just because im into body building so i know i was getting in enough protein and what not, and I was super anal about making sure I was getting all the correct vitamins and minerals. I had b12 as well. Idk, I honestly tried everything just because even to this day meat is disgusting to me, but I can't deny the fact that my stomach just digests it better and makes better use of the nutrients. I truly think it's a person to person thing, and I'm planning on eventually leaning back into atleast being vegetarian. This time I'm going to do it gradually instead of trying to make a sudden change. And by horrible, I had constant bloating, lose stools, extemely low energy to the point of not being able to do simple tasks (got in a car accident), super high anxiety, joint and body pain and increased pain from workouts, slow recovery from workouts, chronic shortness of breathe (this was the main thing fucking me up). There were some plus sides though, food was generally cheaper, i guess that's about it. I also just had over all brain fog. It all went away literally within the first week or so of eating meat again... I have no idea what that's about scientifically or psycologically but I don't care because I don't have time to be not able to function lol

@arigumora that sounds brutal! Is it possible you had an allergy/ sensitivity to something you added in when going plant based that you hadn't eaten before?
If not, some of your symptoms could be linked to a sudden increase in fiber?
Or weight loss/undereating/poor nutrient absorption (all of which would be plausible as a result of the above)
Did you notice any difference between calories & macros across your diet shifts? Ie omni to vegan to omni?
Have you ever had anxiety before? Did that come after your car accident?
Going vegan isn’t always healthy. I don’t consider myself a vegan. I eat a whole food plant based diet, fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts and seeds. I don’t count anything. I eat a wide variety of foods and I eat until I’m almost full. I stay away from sugar, salt and oil. No supplements except B 12 and no vegan processed junk. Drinking Chia seed water, adding flaxseed to your oatmeal, and eating nuts, will help with your omega-3‘s, citrus fruits at every meal will help with absorption of nutrients and protein, lots of legumes, berries, and leafy greens. I’m 64 adding muscle with weight lifting,hiking, biking, running, juggling, and calisthenics daily. My blood work is incredible and I’m full of energy. I hope this helps. Good luck to you.
