Not only have I experienced zero downsides, I feel that I have thrived on a balanced plant based diet. Great job being a voice to help expose some myths that have been plaguing the food industry. I can also fully recommend Dr. Michael Greger and his research... if anyone hasn't heard of him.

Complete respect for educating our meat-eating (I was one for 38 years before going vegetarian and now finally vegan) ostriches on the benefits of plant power when you do your research.
And as 'Simon says' himself it reduces biomarkers for disease, it's better for the environment and better for animals who have no choice in our sometimes unthinking dietary appetites.

The question the video asked was which is better for muscle building, the answer to that is clear, even the FDA whose food pyramid is ridiculously loaded with plants, says animal proteins are vastly superior in bio availability and amino acid profile compared to plants. Their own chart shows all animal foods on the top of the list ,and all plant foods way behind. The best plant protein is soy, lol....much farther down is mung beans then farther down yet is peas.....yummy. No amount of bro science or coping will change the answer to the original question.

@@henryg3313you don't live in "nature".. and only body builders need protein supplements...
And yes even non vegan take protein supplements..
Lower bioavailability doesn't mean no bioavailability or that you can't absorb protein..
That just means that you should eat a Lil more protein on a plant based diet than on an animal based diet..
      Animal protein is NOT HEALTHY..
Especially the ones that come from terrestrial animals.. it's okay to eat some meat but meat was never a health food... And will never be one.. wanna eat meat.. eat all you want... There's no stopping you but that ain't changing the fact that animal protein is bad for the overall health.. why point at a specific macro nutrient when meat as a whole is already really bad..
And cooked plant protein is good and more bioavailable.. and yes it works even without supplementation.. it has worked ...
Also..not everyone wants to build a huge amount of muscle..and no muscular guys aren't always the healthier ones..
I'm 18 year old female 6 feet tall...i go to gym 4 times a week to do weight training ...i am fit ... I'm not huge but I'm fit!

8:40 I think this is so important and something that's not commonly spoken about; what's optimal for health holistically, but also effective for building strength/muscle?
If you think about your health long term, plant-based protein sources (WFPB or Mediterranean diets low on meat) have significantly better long term health outcomes. And although it's hard to quantify in the studies, but these outcomes also contribute to significantly better quality of life. It's easy to miss the forest for the trees when you start looking at your short term gains.

It's cool to see it, because most guys who are into bodybuilding have average clavicle width but still appear to have a broad frame due to their deltoid, trap and lat size - whereas Nimai has those factors, but having wide clavicles on top of that gives his physique an edge.

After watching this… it’s good to hear. I didn’t want to watch it at first… for just Another divided world of vegan vs meat. I’m vegan for decades now. The battle about it in society is tough though.
Fact is… eating animals and products just to gain more muscle… is greed. Especially since it goes into Excess. This is greed. People don’t need that much if at all of animal flesh. Flip side… even vegan loading up or excess can fall to this greed too. It’s a fine line with purpose, vanity and true gratitude, health and , beauty. I lift too. My experience with weight resistant training in my teens until now… has helped accelerate healing from chronic illness. Thanks again guys. It was easy to listen to and enjoyable to watch.

Good explanation! Where did you get that nice bar chart showing the 9 essential acids in various plant and animal foods? Also, what's the source of the 1.6-2.0 g/kg protein recommendation? That seems high to me.

I agree with this. I’m not vegan, not even vegetarian, but pescatarian. Or maybe there’s another name for what I am that I don’t know. Flexitarian? I only say pescatarian because I eat salmon very infrequently. Maybe once a month, maybe even less. I’d say 90% of my diet is either vegan or nearly vegan (I don’t always look at labels to check for animal by-products, but do check for gelatine). I get most of my protein most of the time from tofu, tempeh or beans and lentils, and as someone who does randomly eat salmon or eggs, I can’t say I notice a difference when I do.
I don’t feel better on days I eat salmon, and I also don’t feel worse.
