Diablo 1: Hellfire | The Full Story (Including Cut Quests)

- Опубліковано 28 чер 2024
- Hellfire is a single-player expansion to Diablo. While there are some multi-player modes that can be unlocked, Hellfire is not playable on Blizzard's online gaming service Battle.net, and its changes do not transfer to online characters. However, the expansion does offer many new features as a single-player game, and also does not interfere with a user's ability to still play Diablo with Blizzard's service. Hellfire integrates into Diablo, and because of its design as a "optional, off-the-beaten-path foray", its dungeons can be avoided entirely.
Hellfire's storyline occurs as an aside to the main story arc of the original game. A sorcerer, while performing a ritual, unknowingly releases the demon Na-Krul unto the town of Tristram, but before it can completely escape, the sorcerer magically seals the doors. The player is later tasked with venturing into Na-Krul's lair and vanquishing it. In order to gain access to the dungeons, the player must speak with Lester the Farmer, who is north of Tristram, near the herd of cows; however, if the player speaks to Lester before reaching a certain point of the main Diablo quest, he will be hesitant to ask them to enter the new dungeons.

Hey, you made it this far! Thank you for watching, make sure to come back & say hi before you leave... its not safe to go alone... - Ігри
I find it funny na-Krul says free in the opening scene and then proceeds to get locked behind a door..
FREEEEE! HAHAHAHAHA! (Door locked) AGAAAAIN???!!! :(
I want a remastered version of Diablo 1 so much!
my twenties were spent duping and writing "trainers" to have so much fun! would love to see the game brought back to life and standing up to WoW ...they could even call it World of Diablo
I actually had a chance to play it again but it was painful walking so slowww
Fix that and I’m 100 percent game!
@@youtubmanzmannican4944 The PS1 version had a 2x speed option so you got to walk twice as fast but you also Died twice as fast 😂
With diablo 4 or 2 resurrected graphics it would be cool. But yeah needs some qol improvements without a doubt

Just finished the Diablo 1: The Disturbing Full Story - already loving this one as well. The amount of entertainment and lore you've provided is most appreciated my friend!
Another masterfully executed narration of a truly engaging story, made all the more so by your deftly written words. Thank you so much for taking the time to put this together!
My pleasure, thanks Nicholas!
Excellent video. I remember getting this expansion as a kid (from my cool uncle who hooked me up with all my early computer games) and having a blast! Very badass enemies and Giger-esque level designs that legit scared me every step I took.
Funny thing was my friends who knew about Diablo had no idea this expansion existed, and I remember getting accused of lying when I told ppl about it haha.
It was an unofficial expansion published by Sierra (as opposed to Blizzard), and still hated by Diablo's lead programmer, David Brevik.
Can't blame them. Some crafty people had rich imagination and could make up stuff in real-time. Like Sexuality with Kitana stripping and dancing or Johnny Cage doing ridiculous stuff. Some people were buying it though.
21:35 when you realize Col. Campbell from Metal Gear is in everything, and a DAMN GOOD narrator.
Remember when he told us about The Countess and The Summoner in Diablo 2?
To be perfectly honest, I really enjoy the more lovecraftian sort of pit added in Hellfire. As far as how you get into it though . . . Well that's a bit more on the "eh" side. Now had the nest/hive/pit been a bit more flesh or blood colored I think it would've fit well with Diablo's aesthetic. Maybe even change the spider like enemies into something more demonic. But still I think that it and the ancient tomb that was included made for a great addition.
yeah i think youre right that it couldve been. both d1 and d2 tap into the more camp d&d-esque elements that tangent the thick gothic foundation. i mean, possessed jungle pygmys and mosquitos? but sierra’s irreverence was a little tonedeaf, still...
I love D1 ... When i got hellfire i was in love even more ... later on i was able to get Hellfire working for Multiplayer and on a server to host it . I think i still have all the files and software to do it again, on floppy disk even :) Thousands of hours i spent playing D1 and dont regret a moment of it .
I discovered your channel about a week ago, and have had it on all week, slowly getting through the Diablo Lore.
Can't wait to make it to Diablo 2 Lore!
Keep up the great work!
Thank you so much for covering Hellfire. Much like the main game, it seems that Blizzard successfully buried this game, which is sad considering how fun it is!
Blizzard didn't bury the main game, the hellfire expansion wasn't even made by Blizzard either...
@@insomniacbritgaming1632 actually Im pretty sure they consider this game as shit and they didnt follow the plan at all. they only let seirra have it cause they where busy on d2. there should be a video on youtube about it
@@marionamewontwork2681 they don't consider the game as shit, they don't consider the expansion as Canon, they didn't like it but by that point was a bit late as they were half way through D2
I did enjoy the double Movement Speed outside of the dungeons and the introduction of the Monk Class...
Hellfire was NOT created by Brevik or his team. Not actually part of the story. Hellfire was absolutely garbage anyway.
Found your channel recently. Enjoying these lore videos! Especially because I never had an opportunity to play Hellfire.
Loved the narration and game play. Amazing video. Enjoyed it thoroughly!
Thank you!!
wow, what a throwback! You should also cover the hidden classes in Hellfire, the Barbarian was so much fun tu use!
this walk throguh had me cracking up! hahahah your voice over is classic man! thanks so much!
Actually, I think that lovecraftian theme is fitting perfectly in Diablo, especially when its made as a small sidequest.
Who knows: if Blizzard would make this canon, we may now have a third race who to fight with demons.
its the classic trope of angel, demon, and squid.
" I'm but a poor -insert occupation here- " is like THE most clichee redflag in storytelling x3
Hellfire did add a lot of cool monster and item graphics, most of which weren't even used in the game that modders could access. The Khan & Varaya Middle earth mod was some of the best diablo1 experiences ever.
Middle earth mod? Gotta try it. Thanks for the info
I remember this. It's when Diablo was scary
well when i kill diablo the first as a sorcerer, i got apocalypse spell, therefore i killed him b4 i never see his face....lol
Two was a little flashier but still had that dark aesthetic... D3 strayed too far from the darkness.
Was that because ur age?
@@dotslashsatan age, and it was just better atmosphere tbh
@@dotslashsatan the otherwordly dread was thick in this game. the pacing of walking around quite slowly and the thin balance against being completely overwhelmed with enemies actually made it play a little bit like more modern horror genre games
Finally... I got all your Diablo lore story through, even diablo 3, but it was perfect for me, have been addicted to this game, that was shown to me from my older brother. And it is like 20 years ago I truly felt the pain and emotions of the story. This especially classic D1 is a masterpiece, still searching his own kind, including the cutscenes from D2 it is something humankind will never feel, hear and play like this. I hope you keep up the content on as you said darker lore, I love the way you deliver it to the audience Thank you for remembering me being a child all love to you ♡
I love the Diablo series so damn much!! Thank you for all the incredible Diablo content Dash!

I second this sentiment , thanks brother
@@DarkLOREDash any plans to go further and improve diablo ii/expansion?
I grew up playing D1+HF. The Hive freaked me out so much I needed my pops to sit next to me while I played. Crypt was also creepy and awesome. Stories aren't the same these days it feels like. I stopped at D3, I might try D4. Your narration and story-telling is an absolute gift to the world.
very quippy and well done. love the narration style and voice :)
That farmer's voice, that's the voice actor for Dr. Brain. Man, this really was a great age of voicework, makes me love and appreciate original PC games more.
Why I watched this, I may never know... But I do know the way you narrate your videos with the games story is incredibly entertaining. I only hope that you can continue being as thorough with Diablo II resurrected. Which is essentially what you have already done with D2 OG, but maybe with some retellings of tales from within that universe but with the new D2R. Keep up the awesome work and I will look forward to more lore, that I already know, but enjoy reliving as you are very entertaining.
Will you make a video about the Monk?
Been binge watching all your Diablo videos, was wondering if you thought of doing the same for Path of Exile, as many times as I've played through PoE I have no idea what's going on in the story haha
you and around 95% of PoE players
Great video. I Enjoyed watching this.
I have a question...I notice you seem to almost always wear the medium armor for the Warrior in pretty much all your Diablo 1 videos. Do you just prefer the aesthetic/look of that armor? I personally always liked the look of it. When D1 was 1st released and I spent hours and hours and even more hours playing it, I started to split the 3 main classes into even more classes based on their armor type. When the Warrior wore the heavy plate he was a Paladin. When he wore the medium armor he was a Cleric. The base look of the Warrior was a Barbarian. I would also limit each class to certain weapon types. Paladins would use Swords, Clerics would use maces/hammers and Barbarians would use axes. I was a complete nerd, but I loved the game so much...I wanted it to be deeper than it was, so I created my own ways of playing to increase its replay value (for me).
Wow, I think that thing with subclassing each class is cool and warrior subclasses you described makes really sense. Now I'm curious - how did you split (if you did) sorcerer and rogue classes?
Your not alone lol I started playing diablo when i was 7. I had new backstories and motives for my characters every restart i think. I seemed to usually lean towards the cleric warrior you mentioned though, cause how it looks cool even when hes just strollin through town wit his helmet under his arm.
This armor really looks the best. I personally didn't like anything that Diablo 2 had to offer and was missing the characters from the first one a lot.
He is wearing Arkane's Valor which is one of the best and easiest to get armors in the game.
I used to do this sort of thing 👍👌
This was awesome dude thanks, it makes me want to do another play though
My pleasure!
Hi,
While I agree that the aesthetics don't mesh with the style of Diablo, I like that it was attempted. What was explored here was interesting. I'm also curious about what they were aiming for, seeing as Na-Krul had no love for Diablo. "Out of my way wretched human. Retribution calls to he who you call Diablo". Were they enemies I'm guessing?
Honestly, I don't think I would mind if this was explored again in the future maybe? Perhaps we may see something that's neither from Heaven nor Hell, and doesn't care about the eternal conflict.
good question. Now im curious of their motives. Surely its not just evil stuff be evil lol
That music at the end of the video always hits me. lol
You explain and describe things soo awesome
Thank you!
How much time does it take to write this fantastic video scripts? So detailed and you tell them so well!!
Great video and narration from you as always but...a bit of (How should I put this) expansion in general I think...
I really like the Hellfire expansion. Too bad Lester and Celia never have any gossip and leave after the quests are done.
thanks for your work!
"We immediately regret punching that baby" will be one of my fovourite quotes from now on.
The monsters in the hive looks similar to the ones that appear outside Lut Gholein, in Diablo II.
I think this idea was cut content from Diablo 1 that got into Diablo 2 because there was a deadline to release the game to make game company income and hard choices had to made to get the story to make sense
this takes me back to when i was a kid with my brother both playing obsessed with this game
WOW !!! I knew that the corner stone of the world had this function but I never was able to make it trigger the text !!

Thank you for this prime sunday content.
Lol, defiler screens free and laughs, then the door closes immediately with a magical lock.
Best story teller ever man i watch the Diablo lore videos all the time.
I actually loved Hellfire. Still own it too. I thought some of the new areas were cool but I never felt like it added enough new items.
Poor Theo. I'll never forget that quest.
I recently discovered your stuff and it's so engaging
Thank you!
i remember buying Hellfire when it came out but as I never looked at gaming magazines I never knew about hidden levels or even the Farmers Quest until today.
Guess I'll have to build a Windows PC and check things out again if I can find the CD and it still works
After watching these videos I really feel like going back to play trough it again.
Any chance you can do a small documentary about Diablo 1 and Hellfire? Why it doesn’t have multiplayer? Monk’s story arc? Etc. I try to do a search on UA-cam about Hellfire without any results.
I remember playing this when it came out or shortly after memory’s here lots of them thank you for clarification
Man this music takes me back!!
I think that the hive is a great addition to the Diablo universe a more deep and perverse level of hell full of filth and pure vile evil reserved only for the most wicked and disgusting creatures of the burning hell's, a place where even demons fear to tread. The defiler kind of reminds me of the violator from spawn and the hive kind of reminds me a little bit of certain versions of hell in spawn which i think goes great with Diablo.
Love the violator

I was a child and could not afford diablo, what I recall well was "its forbidden in the demo" message, when I reached the last accessible level :D. Later played it through. It was unique experience, unrepeated afterwards. Diablo 2 was not bad and from todays perspective more advanced (not regarding graphics), but the charm of Diablo 1 on me as child is unbeatable...
I watch your diablo 1 videos like once per week... I need more
^A^ LOVE that you got the Aerosmith announcement! I am a major ^A^ fan and would kill to get a copy of Hellfire with the Aerosmith part in it!
Best Diablo lore channel
Dude, you are really good at this. I hope you play more of the old classics like Gothic and Hexen 2 and make similar movie-like videos. Sometimes an old game is great but replaying it is too much just for the story.
Never noticed when I was a kid but the narrator from diablo is quite obviously colonel Campbell from metal gear solid
It’s crazy how you did this in that armor, idk what shields and helm you have, but at level 22 with an armor rate of 90+ and an upgraded-via-oil Grims Edge with a tower shield, I found this DLC harder then the levels 12-15 of the base game
Funny I was going to say how I can't help but picture Colonel Campbell narrating the journals and whatnot to Snake via the codec... only to realize it's actually the same voice actor.
Tis a small world in Voice Over! Still laugh thinking of him as the Japanese Sensei in Tenchu 2
33:14 Daniel Zawacki - "This is one of the first exoansion packs of a pre-existing game."
Yes. Until a few weeks ago I thought Hellfire being the only one (except new mods), but then I stubled upon another called... Ancient Armoury or something like that. an unofficial by even Blizzard South! Found a used copy on eGay, I think. Closed the window by mistake and can't find the exp now.

Great video. Always checked out the copy that was at my local Tower Records because no one seemed to be interested in it and I was a huge Diablo fan but never bought it as it wasn't made by Blizzard North. Cool to see, although it would have been cool to show some of the other character classes (I think the monk at least was introduced).
@Dark LORE Dash - - who is the voice actor of all these dark texts ?? I want to know !!
Honestly, the whole " Aerosmith tickets" dialogue is creepiest thing ive encountered in any diablo game... its so out of nowhere and unexpected..
A little nitpick I mentioned in the original video of the Teddy bear quest. There is an extra reward for adding the little girl. When you kill the Hork Boss you get an amulet, and with the girl you also get an extra amulet as a reward for the Teddy. So basically this addon doubled the reward for this quest. Girl was cut because David Brevik wanted the Little Girl quest removed from the game, as he felt it clashed with Diablo's dark tone.
This was fantastic!
Thank you kindly 😊
Omg, the Theo quest line is great. 😂❤
These are so well made.
The comment about the thicc succubus made me spit my coffee. That was hilarious.

I have more respect for Hellfire's lore now:
1. The departures from the original lore aren't that awful and there are some interesting additions as well
2. It shows that gaming companies gave a shit about their games' lore much more than today (Gaming Workshop)

Honestly I think the Diablo franchise could use a bit more of a Lovecraftian element to them to break up the pace a bit with all the demons and angels.
Don't get me wrong, I love Diablo, but I love Lovecraft even more and I think some elements of his Cthulhu mythos could fit very snuggly inside the Diablo 2 universe!
I know that this is a late response but the reason that diablo doesn't have lovecraft type stuff is pretty much due to the Sin War. There isn't much reason to add cosmic entities when you already have them.
That and considering how bad Sierra executed this "expansion" it put off any idea for good it seemed
Been waiting for hellfire. I never got to experience the game.
I think it's funny how everyone in town tells you to forget about the map. It's as if the main cast is telling you to just not worry about the new content. Even the Hellfire Expansion doesn't want you to play it.
Ironic, seeing how Hellfire is a better sequel than Diablo 3.

The amulet, does it give over 10,000 gold per slot or JUST 10,000, curious because 10k isn't over 10k. Good videos but too many recycled clips, gotta fast forward and I'm missing stuff sometimes
If we pay a real attention, everything Hellfire did was adding some lovecraft elements with a few relevant abandoned quests ideas to create an irrelevant, but still a nice try, game content.
Let's be honest, all the Hive stuff seems to be prepared to the cut quest "The Infestation of the Worms" and there's a lot of insect monsters here, then, they recicled a lot of quotes from "Lost Treasure" and "The Map of the Stars" to make some narrative around the map used between the transition of Hive to Cript, I guess only Gillian have a original text made for hellfire only, I don't remember to have listened this anywhere else, but my memory isn't that good so I wouldn't be surprised if it was somewhere in OG Diablo data. Then, entering the Cript, the warrior says "This is a place of greater power" that would fit perfect to the cut quest "Horazon's Sanctum" because this place also holds journal texts about some uncontrollable creature that some powerful mage couldn't deal with and trapped it. And Celia's Theo quest kind remembers me Gillian's quest Andariel, Maiden of Anguish, I know this is the most distant and weird comparison, but I compare them for two reasons: both are about going somewhere not inside the Church of Tristram, to rescue someone, in Gillian's quest would be Dica's sons Inaius and Roof, maybe any other man lured by the Andariel as well, in Celia's quest is just Theo, that make us initially think it's about a male friend, but we realize later that Theo is just a (disappointing) Teddy Bear.
I guess if Sierra had more support of Blizzard, they would have tried to restore all the cut quests but not the Map of The Stars, because, as David Bravik said it "changed the way you played Diablo", but Blizzard probably was too busy because of Diablo 2 development, so they just let some third party do the rushed work and granted to them the minimum support as possible to focus the main work to the next Diablo game, so they worried only to release Hellfire before D2 just to use this expansion to earn a bit more extra money.
Everything you read above is just my speculation and I'm NOT telling that is what really happened, I'm not here to spread false information, I don't have any proof to support my opinion.
If you agree with my points above let me know in your answer. Feel free to share your opinion about Sierra's ambition and Hellfire Expansion. 👇🏻
I'm amazed how single player oriented D1 and other games back then were
