A friend in college never got triggered. He found rude comments or whatever might trigger others as humorous and would just laugh. Loved thst about him.
Nice work Lauren. As a child I didn’t have friends until I was 13. I learned some of this early. I even wear a bracelet that says fear is the mind killer. That said there is also a practice to know when to speak up or when to walk away. Sometimes the message will not be heard by the person doing the triggering. All good stuff and I think you did well in associating science and theory to practice!!!
@@katyschildmeyerksapparelde2441 Fear is the mind killer- I love that. It's so true. And yes there is a time to speak up! And your voice is so much clearer and powerful when you're not speaking from a triggered place.
@@LaurenNanson Best Video on Anger Management I have been trying for so long to control my behaviour as I already hurt my family members and my self but I trying to keep myself cool
I love using Ted talks as gaining knowledge to help myself and others. I love how some Ted talks happen just when you are ready to listen to the message and actually apply it. I grew up on the Rez and am scared that I raised children that are coddled. The triggers here in my community here on the Rez may end a little differently than other communities. I have always remained cool under pressure and turned my negative environment into positive. I even have been in life threatening situations where I was not scared and was able to diffuse the situation to resolution.❤Thanks you all ❤
Lauren, you have such insight, sincerity, and wisdom. Listening to you speak was enlightening and deeply spoke to me in terms of similar experiences. Thank you for sharing your story.
Thank you for your comment! I really appreciate how you expressed your thoughts on this topic. There are so many different perspectives and experiences that make us all unique.
Gosh, I really needed your wise words this morning. My in-laws are coming to stay later today and my father-in-law is my trigger, to the point that I now dread their visits. I was planning to quietly leave the room every time he wound me up but now I will definitely be using your suggested approach. Thank you. :)
Wow, this talk was informative and absolutley amazing. I laughed and cried and learned. This is the essence of a TEDx talk right here well done Lauren.
This was wonderful! CEO is a great tool that I’m glad to now have in my back pocket. I also enjoyed hearing your personal story and how much you have overcome, learned and now get to share to help others. Thank you!!

I really appreciated the talk. She's no scientist, but someone that manged to overcome a problem, something that is BIG until you manage to overcome it.
I LOOVE THIS!! I LOVE the question : “what would person who I want to be do?” SO GOOOOD!! And I’m LOVING show so much of meat is in this presentation 😃straight to the point just how I like it! It’s SUCH a great exercise to be CEO of my own mind… especially imaging what person I want to be and what this person would do… and training ourselves to self control… SOOO GOOOD!! Love it!😍😃🤍🦄🌸☀️🤍🤍🤍🤍🫶🏻

Thank you for this talk! Such a blessing Before this talk. I was a walking trigger. Now I am going to work on being a CEO of my own mind God bless friend
This was fantastic, Lauren! I want to teach that CEO tip to my kids! I love the story about the mice too. Resilience really is so central to our mental/emotional well being. You are an inspiration!
I hope and pray everyone would breathe and be calm before typing or speaking negative opinions and judgements on others. Love you Lauren and definitely need more truth with love messages! 🧠 ❤️ God bless everyone whi watches this! “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy-meditate on these things. The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.” Philippians 4:6-9 NKJV
Wow! How good was this talk!?! There were some things in this I needed to hear in this. Will be working on CEO. Super helpful and needed in the world we live in today.
Ketchup on steak! Never! Thank for the CEO approach it’s a good reminder to find that centered confident inner perspective even if the other person is hard to deal with or triggering.
so basically “don’t develop ptsd despite your horrible circumstances because these mice didn’t!!” i’m glad that it worked for you, but this is such a bigger topic than 14 minutes. people don’t intentionally develop trauma, especially if we’re talking about childhood trauma

So very well done, Lauren! A wonderful balance of humor, vulnerability, and practical application with a hopeful vision and charge for the future for all listening. 👏
This was hard to accept since my parents kept on being triggered for no reason but blames me for there triggers like there is something wrong with me as a kid and they still do it when they get triggered till this day. They dont stop when i tell them when they are tiggered
I thought resisting what you feel isnt good? Doesnt it just supprss it even further instead of bringing it out and feeling it to see where its comming from then take different action whiles becoming more and more aware of it to do things differently?
Shoes are not good, barefoot is when we ground ourselves with earth. She was right to be triggered by seeing the barefoot man but wrong to decide that shoes are a great idea and put them back on. Research grounding and wake up……
I like that you not only helped us identity the problem but also gave us a practical tool to overcome it. Well done Lauren!

Sounds like he has no boundaries
what's to stop this college roomate from getting into a relationship or friendship with someone who is abusive and staying with that person forever?
he's under deserved
Avoidance coping mechanism to laugh every thing off.
Maybe deep down inside he is suffering and the laughing off is just a coping mechanism he adapted to survive....?
Thank you TED and TEDx South Howard Avenue.
