Yes, I only enabled security updates. You can see in the video that I actually install updates during the OOBE phase and once you get to the desktop it's clean.
Just completed an install of Windows 11 23H2. No modifications to your install file. WOW! This *definately* a lean'n'mean install. 79 task at desktop, 22GB on disk, no problem activating (digital license); Updated with security/feature updates for June/2024, then used group edit to block security for 30 days, features of 365 days. I didn't use Chris' app to install a browser, I have the Firefox installer on my NAS. To hell with Tiny 11, this is by far a much much cleaner system. Only thing that concerns me, is Chris' server is gonna get hammered when word of this way to install Windows gets out.
Like to add, that even though I did the feature update, nothing was added to the menu (bloatware). Though I'm sure any future updates, I won't be as lucky
Installed a Win 11 23H2 with unmodified unattended on a new virtual machine. Update 2406-06 and 2023-11 fail with error0x80248007. Update: a few retries and reboot in between solved the update problem.
Tip - If you get locked out, the password is password. Generated from autounattend website. Took me 3 fresh installs and 3 hours to figure it out. Every like helps! not really but give me a like.

There is nothing fishy about this, it’s a simple debloater and there’s many like it. I also have personally designed a few pieces of malware and I see no capability of it installing any since it doesn’t connect to the internet at any point nor does it contain any PE data sections. You can also select during windows instalation,rest of the world when you are asked about your area.Due to licences issues,and the fact that windows setup does not know exactly were in the world you are(at this point),you will get a clean windows instalation.Not sure if is this clean tho...

Wooow absolutely amazing and simple. I just downloaded the xml file and added it to my windows 11 usb media, and boom. Setting up windows was finally easy, I didn't have to deny the 100 things they make you answer, add a microsoft account, etc. A clean install without all the junk. Thank you soooo much !
If it's a flash drive did you have to burn it onto an ISO file or did you just drag the xml file onto the flash drive's folder and that was hit? I was really confused when he mentioned needing third party software to put the xmp file into the windows installation folder

Done, 6 min to install {USB 3.2}, 75 processes at first boot. I went back to Win 10. Super clean build, translucent task bar , I really wanted the old calendar with reminders, I put a folder in the Support folder of the boot iso on the USB and add everything i want to install {browsers. klite. graphics.drivers.scripts,ect} no need for C Titus app. Cheers
Awesome! Thanks for letting me know! Yeah on Win 10 I included the translucent taskbar, I love it. I also move the taskbar to the top but I didn't include that in the file. In my opinion having the taskbar at the top is better because since all the browser tabs are at the top of the screen, it's just faster to get to the other stuff in Windows as well.

Tipa ako neki app zahteva nesto, iskljucio sam bio neke stvari pre i nisam mogao tipa .net framework da instaliram, a treba mi tipa za neki program. Bas su nekako intergrisali sad da ni update ne mozes da gasis, pa sam limitirao internet da ne moze da se skida, sem po potrebi, i oni su toliko pokvareni da su ugradili da se restartuje wifi ako vidi da nemas net za update. Zadnja kap je bila kad su mi gurnuli AI u photo app, bez toga da zelim ili kad mi se restartuje PC za update, a ukljucio sam alarm
@mrbane2000 To je strašno, koliko malo kontrole je ostalo korisniku. Ja sam prešao na Linux Mint. Ali naravno neophodan mi je windows za posao i jos neke situacije. Ova instalacija na računaru za sada radi ok. Mada nisam dovoljno istestirao. Bio je značajan problem sa Microsoft Store, gdje nisam mogao da instaliram nekek programe jer su dostupni samo tamo. Pa sam omogucio da ih instaliram preko browser-a. Druga stvar je Microsoft account i School or work account. Morao sam da omogucim i to. Jer mi je bilo neophodno. Na kraju mislim da sam od svega najvise benefitirao od pobrisanog bloatware-a. Definitovno cu smanjiti ograničenja na sledećoj instalaciji. Ali prije ili kasnije ni ovo neće biti moguće. Windows je sve integrisao i ispreplitao bas iz razloga da korisnik koristi windows ne kao operativni sistem vec kao servis. Kao sto je O365. Predviđam da će posle windowsa 12 biti samo Operating System As A Service na Cloud-u, sa mjesecnom predplatom.

You've created a pre-built CTT script so it can be run on-demand without needing to type IRM IEX stuff through powershell. Saw this ONE day after fresh installing Windows 11. I've spent a bunch of time debloating and comparing processes, I'm idling at 100 processes, looks like I've got about 20 more to get rid of! I'll watch this and compare what's left haha. Thanks for this anyway.
Can you please tell how and what you did? Because I don't want to format and install all the programs/games again which will take a very long time... If the process is very long then just tell the things to do... I'll find tutorials for those things.
The "Unattended file" includes "Chris Titus Tech WinUtil" for the clean Windows. In the same vein, you are correct that CTT WinUtil (@10:30) is not perfect. I used to use earlier versions of CTT WinUtil but it broke some of the programs that i needed. Took me some time to review all those broken programs and to re-enable/re-install Win 10/11 programs needed to make them run. I have not tried the latest CTT WinUtil as my Win 11 Pro has been setup and running the way I wanted without any bloatware or telemetry for the past 2 years. Depending on one's use case, it may be quicker/easier to install a full bloated standard version OS, and then remove those bloatware/telemetry manually, compared to a clean Windows 10/11 as in this video, and then re-enable/install whatever required.
Leaving UAC on and leaving Edge in are probably two of the saner choices you would choose in the answer file. He did preface his video saying everything was stripped to blank canvas, and each user should add back what makes most sense.

I have been debloating manually using CTT script since 2016/2017 and been trying to improve the efficiency of installing windows on multiple devices.... @@revvnae8659hello, i can see that you're new at debloating. This video is mostly useful for advanced user who had already learned how to debloat manually, because it just showed how to automate debloat using manual scripting. There's a lot of ways to learn how to manually debloat, but since you are new, I would suggest you search up Crist Titus Tech (or CTT) channel in youtube. He created a batch script, complete with GUI to make it easier for anyone who don't want to freshly install an already debloated windows. He's sometimes stream what he's doing, so you could directly ask him for any question if you dont understand what you're doing. He also made tons of videos about how to easily debloat Windows for beginners, without even having to reinstall your Windows. Hope this help.
This is sick. I knew rufus can change some settings on install but I didnt realize it was as simple as planting an xml file on the iso, and that it was this flexible.

Going to do it on an older PC out of service...and use it for a time to see if it remains operable. My main concern is security, and the many updates Microsoft pushes down out throats. How will the installed system behave? If I leave out updates I am exposed (even with a good antivirus), if I leave them comming it'll likely just update to 24H2 as soon as it downloads...and then what??
My Windows 10 was so fast after (finally) reinstalling it using this answers file that when I'd click the start menu, it felt like the menu would pop up before I even clicked it. I started my fresh Windows copy with only 69 (nice) processes. I've sent this video to a ton of people looking to reinstall and debloat.
Thanks so much for your feedback and sharing the video! To be honest, the file actually has a lot of issues, well, at least for some users. I'm planning on making more optimizations to it or even using another method. Either way, keep an eye on the channel because in the future I might have something that's even better, probably after 24H2 has been out for a while.

Literally nobody pays for windows except corporations. It's essentially a free product. You can argue otherwise but again, nobody pays for windows it's free on their main site.

Aren't School Class Computers usually running a custom OS that boots up a Remote Windows anyways, like there's nothing even installed locally these days? Am I tripping or misremembering things? This comment got me second guessing myself, dang!
This is a beautiful work of art, specially since it doesn't require unknown external tools and/or files. I'll definitely modify it to my needs and include a few tweaks I commonly apply to my Windows after installation. I only wish it would also include all known registry tweaks for Windows 10/11, with a comment indicating with what version of Windows it works, since some tweaks only work up to version XY, while other only work since version YZ, but I guess that could be a HUGE endeavor and require many people to work on it and test it thoroughly.
I'm so glad you like it! You are more than welcome to contribute to the file on GitHub with your mentioned tweaks, but like you said it would take a lot of testing. This file took me a few weeks to finalize for both 10 & 11.

Hi, thankyou for replying and reciprocating my initial concerns with regard to this "optional" for some, way of installing Windows. For some people out there with not necessarily a "Potato PC", but still own a pc that is still behind the current times spec-wise, or just own a pc that is aging just a little, then I can see the potential performance advantages for some with a comp that is not too old to benefit from this way of installing Windows, but by the time they finish fully "tweaking" thier install, they still kind of need to get things right, or quite possibly, problems will ensue further down the line for them - this is just something worth bearing in mind especially when install methods like this seem a little too enticing not to try. Anyway hopefully, most out there trying your method of installing this modded Windows installation are not noobs, and will probably be ok doing this with within fair reason - hopefully anyway. On a final note, so you know, I myself am a well seasoned PC builder/User of Windows (pretty much all variations of across the years) as well as various other o/s`s too, with well over 30 years of experience, and so as you might imagine, I`m used to having known of, or either experienced Windows modds/install variations, as well as a myriad of so-called Windows hacks over the years myself, and clearly that knowledge base and experience has left me a bit better off when it comes to things like this than most. I guess for those trying this modded Windows method for themselves, I don`t doubt for a moment that this will probably, put simply, be a small part of thier learning curve too in the oh so "fun" world of pc building/installing, and general use of too lol . video was recommended to me at a perfect time. just spent a week picking the perfect parts for my new pc (7800x3d, 7900gre) and it should be here sometime within the next 2 weeks. already have the usb ready with the windows 10 media creation tool, but i definitely needed this since i'd have gone through a lot of windows disabling things i wouldn't need, but you can never get to all of it; there's just too much with things being essentially impossible to disable. i'll download this and go through it, enabling the things i think i'll need, and after the installation i'll reply to this comment and let you know how it went :)
Anytime I've tried tweaks like this that is exactly what happens. You may get away with your "dream" setup for a period of time but eventually the updates will ruin it. I just wish someone would make a reliable and trustworthy windows clone that could run all windows programs and also support everyone's existing hardware. There is a wide open market for someone to swoop in and take on this type of project but how that all becomes a reality with copyright, security, and just basic public trust who knows. I think this specific approach should be tested for at least 12 - 18 months to see how things pan out in the long run. To anyone who is considering this please just know that MS actively searches for these types of projects and will go out of its way to put in an update that ruins it all.

@@ForeverConsciousResearch I miss my Win7 setup.. was running 10y without a single issue on my i7-2600K@4.5Ghz. Upgraded graphics card 3x even and used it to produce music in Cubase as well. Since I switched to Win10 (and 5950X) I gotta reboot this shit at least once a week due to some problem.

Hello there ! Thanks a lot for your video and guide. I have a small problem to my liking which i cant solve it as it seems. When i try to search, in windows search the applications that i installed, for example Outlook, Teams, Discord and other, it seems it cant find them. I changed the Windows Search options and excluded folders, included in the search index advance options but it seems it doesn't work properly. Is there any way to change it by powershell to its default command or which is the local policy responsible for fixing this ? Thanks in advance, best regards. 🖐
Hey there, I've seen a lot of people mention this on GitHub as well. At this moment, I don't know exactly what causes it. I use apps like StartAllBack, Open Shell and Flow Launcher which basically replaces the search, so I haven't had that issue. I will check it out in the future.
0:40, But will it have the right and fully functional Bluetooth driver though? It's a constant thorn in my side now. Even if I manually install one that isn't broken, and completely disabled automatic updates via group policy edit, Windows will automatically overwrite it and use the old broken Bluetooth driver anyway. The absolute only way for me to prevent this is to permanently disabled internet access for that PC, or it will revert the change as soon as it connects.

Disabling UAC is a bad thing. Settting "Ultimate Performance" profile by default is probably counter-productive for laptops. Removing XboxApp... I guess you can't play Microsoft Flight Simulator anymore. Hiding Language Switcher is counter-productive for those who uses several languages. Dark Mode is personal preference. Disabling "Let websites provide locally relevant content by accessing my language list" is personal preference and usually counter-productive. I think it doesn't affect Chrome, Firefox and other browsers but I am not sure.
you can opt out win updates for 2years and install only security updates. cant verify yet is it really working but hey lets give it a shot it sounds awesome

Just wanted to clarify some expectation based on Microsoft documentation, so if find your OS is updating before you expect it to, you know why :) Both DeferFeatureUpdatesPeriodinDays and DeferQualityUpdatesPeriodinDays (as most refer to Regular Updates and Security Only Updates respectively) cannot be set as long as this script has been set to - 2 years, their maximums are as following according to this documentation: DeferFeatureUpdatesPeriodinDays 0-365 days, DeferQualityUpdatesPeriodinDays 0-35 days. So setting to 730 for both is not reflective of what is permitted or respected by the OS. 365 days is the maximum for Regular Updates and 35 days for Security Updates. However this is a great video and very informative! Keep up the great work.
@@kamalsameh3338 no. what the he meant is that, after those days have passed, or when it is close to the end of those days, just rerun the defer update feature. if you're concerned with update being automatically downloaded, just go to windows update and change the setting to ask you first before downloading the update. this way, you can always decline the update

@@kamalsameh3338 you don't have to change nothing. Basically, if you install this windows 11 clean instalation, your pc will autoupdate and download all the bloatware from windows 11 original in one year, and there is nothing you can do for avoid this.
Hi from Australia thanks for this i was going to install a modified windows iso by atlas or another windows x-lite ultimate 11 cobalt but it seems risky because they could contain nasties. Your way looks safer . Thanks again.
Glad I could help and that's one of the main points I made in my video, this is much safer because I'm not making any modifications to the actual Windows Image. It just automates a bunch of scripts and registry keys after Windows is already installed.

What about running WIN11 22H2 'again' over a already installed and quite cleaned Windows System? ie pretending to be a kind of repair install! 😊 I did take Microsoft account off on already installed 23H2 which impaired this laptop Then I made a win11 22h2 USB iso and cleaned 'after' using others scripts, but yours goes further. That is why I am asking. Do you get what I mean?
Look I think I know what you're saying and I'm sure it will work. You can also just copy the UnattendedWinstall answer file onto the 22H2 USB and do a clean install of Windows. I think it will work.
Successfully installed W11 using the xml file w/Notepad, Edge, MP from GitHub. I have a question though. Windows update still shows many updates ready to install and it says that "you have reached the maximum amount of pause time". Also shows the update pending icon on the system tray. Is that expected behavior? Only a few needed updates went through automatically, without my action nothing else has been installed. Just making sure updates don't restart tomorrow 😅. On a different note, everything went great and the installation literally flies on my almost 10 year old Asus N56. Kudos to the author! I replaced my NTLite created version with this one, better performance and much easier to do! Thanks 🙏🙏🙏👍
It's normal. Script doesn't allow Feature Updates to be installed (such as Microsoft Teams, or other bloatware) and because of that, it will show you that you have pending updates.
@@stnalexx you need to use group policy, it's a bit counter intuitive but it helps a lot. Granted using LTSC helps too. You can disable feature updates altogether this way
@@neoloxn wrong, windows updates DO REINSTALL bloatware, it is microsoft afterall, and that is a thing that no unatend.xml can fix, you will have to either run a script or manually do it yourself whenever new bloat gets installed
Thanks for the video and xml file.. They are awesome. But I'm having two problems.. Windows Defender Virus & Threat Protection 'Threat Service has stopped, Restart?' So, I click Restart, and it won't restart. How do I fix this? Not sure if that is causing this problem.. CTT WinUtil does not install most of the apps I have selected. I've tried selecting only 5-6, and it may install one, or none. But when I try to install all 20 apps, it fails.

I haven't tested MicroWin yet so I'm not sure. As far as I know, he uses his own Unattend file for MicroWin so I don't know if it's going to cause issues. It's worth a try though

Nice! Always up for a lean mean Windows machine but I'm not keen on downloading doctored ISO files. I was planning on doing a fresh install this coming weekend to clean out the cruft and crap I don't use anymore, so I'll give this a shot and see how I make out. I'll report back on my results.

Clean and barebones is the default for many linux distributions. If you value privacy, performance, lack of Ads, maybe its worthwhile to think if you really need windows or are using it just because of "inertia"
Also, while a valuable tool, this file is not going to remove the encrypted registry keys from Windoze. Can you really trust an operating system without every bit & byte of code plainly reviewable?

Worked great on Win 11 23h2, process count was 62, did all updates & now just 80. Normally about 150 on normal install. This was on a 9th gen i7 with 16gb ram laptop.

Very true, but when a major update releases, let's say 24H2 in our current timeframe, I will do a clean install of 24H2 with the answer file, I won't do an in place upgrade, and I'm guessing most people will too.
I recently did a 22H2 to 23H2 update and the old settings stayed in place. New features will most likely be enabled, yes. Even if settings get changed/reset the CTT script takes less than 5 minutes to run (it also supports config files, so you can just export->import your original settings).
Appreciate this. I'm switching to Linux Zorin and Mint on all of my devices but a slimmed down version of Windows to boot up when needed is very helpful.

Yes, I only enabled security updates. You can see in the video that I actually install updates during the OOBE phase and once you get to the desktop it's clean.
Just completed an install of Windows 11 23H2. No modifications to your install file. WOW! This *definately* a lean'n'mean install. 79 task at desktop, 22GB on disk, no problem activating (digital license); Updated with security/feature updates for June/2024, then used group edit to block security for 30 days, features of 365 days. I didn't use Chris' app to install a browser, I have the Firefox installer on my NAS. To hell with Tiny 11, this is by far a much much cleaner system. Only thing that concerns me, is Chris' server is gonna get hammered when word of this way to install Windows gets out.

Installed a Win 11 23H2 with unmodified unattended on a new virtual machine. Update 2406-06 and 2023-11 fail with error0x80248007. Update: a few retries and reboot in between solved the update problem.
Tip - If you get locked out, the password is password. Generated from autounattend website. Took me 3 fresh installs and 3 hours to figure it out. Every like helps! not really but give me a like.

There is nothing fishy about this, it’s a simple debloater and there’s many like it. I also have personally designed a few pieces of malware and I see no capability of it installing any since it doesn’t connect to the internet at any point nor does it contain any PE data sections. Setting up windows was finally easy, I didn't have to deny the 100 things they make you answer, add a microsoft account, etc. A clean install without all the junk. Thank you soooo much !
If it's a flash drive did you have to burn it onto an ISO file or did you just drag the xml file onto the flash drive's folder and that was hit? I was really confused when he mentioned needing third party software to put the xmp file into the windows installation folder

Done, 6 min to install {USB 3.2}, 75 processes at first boot. I went back to Win 10. Super clean build, translucent task bar , I really wanted the old calendar with reminders, I put a folder in the Support folder of the boot iso on the USB and add everything i want to install {browsers. klite. graphics.drivers.scripts,ect} no need for C Titus app. Cheers
Awesome! Thanks for letting me know! Yeah on Win 10 I included the translucent taskbar, I love it. I also move the taskbar to the top but I didn't include that in the file. In my opinion having the taskbar at the top is better because since all the browser tabs are at the top of the screen, it's just faster to get to the other stuff in Windows as well.

Tipa ako neki app zahteva nesto, iskljucio sam bio neke stvari pre i nisam mogao tipa .net framework da instaliram, a treba mi tipa za neki program. Bas su nekako intergrisali sad da ni update ne mozes da gasis, pa sam limitirao internet da ne moze da se skida, sem po potrebi, i oni su toliko pokvareni da su ugradili da se restartuje wifi ako vidi da nemas net za update. Zadnja kap je bila kad su mi gurnuli AI u photo app, bez toga da zelim ili kad mi se restartuje PC za update, a ukljucio sam alarm
@mrbane2000 To je strašno, koliko malo kontrole je ostalo korisniku. Ja sam prešao na Linux Mint. Ali naravno neophodan mi je windows za posao i jos neke situacije. Ova instalacija na računaru za sada radi ok. Mada nisam dovoljno istestirao. Bio je značajan problem sa Microsoft Store, gdje nisam mogao da instaliram nekek programe jer su dostupni samo tamo. Pa sam omogucio da ih instaliram preko browser-a. Druga stvar je Microsoft account i School or work account. Morao sam da omogucim i to. Jer mi je bilo neophodno. Na kraju mislim da sam od svega najvise benefitirao od pobrisanog bloatware-a. Definitovno cu smanjiti ograničenja na sledećoj instalaciji. Ali prije ili kasnije ni ovo neće biti moguće. Windows je sve integrisao i ispreplitao bas iz razloga da korisnik koristi windows ne kao operativni sistem vec kao servis. Kao sto je O365. Predviđam da će posle windowsa 12 biti samo Operating System As A Service na Cloud-u, sa mjesecnom predplatom.

Presao sam na Arch linux EndevourOS. A sto se tice stora kucas "adguard store" i ima sajt za skidanje fajlova sa stora. Zanima me kako si licno vezan za Windows zbog posla? Ja licno imam drugi laptop za posao srećom. Evo ja jednom izbrisao Edge, a u njemu je cuveni Web View 2 koji koristi startmeni i nije mi radio kalendar npr.

You've created a pre-built CTT script so it can be run on-demand without needing to type IRM IEX stuff through powershell.

You can create your own shortcut. It is in the CTT Toolbox under tweaks and on the right 'Create WinUtil Shortcut.
LTSC can be a headache for my use case, as Windows Store is not included. The first thing I do with any LTSC installation is to install Windows Store.

The "Unattended file" includes "Chris Titus Tech WinUtil" for the clean Windows. In the same vein, you are correct that CTT WinUtil (@10:30) is not perfect. I used to use earlier versions of CTT WinUtil but it broke some of the programs that i needed. Took me some time to review all those broken programs and to re-enable/re-install Win 10/11 programs needed to make them run. I have not tried the latest CTT WinUtil as my Win 11 Pro has been setup and running the way I wanted without any bloatware or telemetry for the past 2 years.
Depending on one's use case, it may be quicker/easier to install a full bloated standard version OS, and then remove those bloatware/telemetry manually, compared to a clean Windows 10/11 as in this video, and then re-enable/install whatever required.
Mind sharing how to remove the bloatware/telemetry manually... I'm already on a standard bloated Win 11 Pro install
These days the Chris Titus Windows Utility works really well and it's very stable, one of the best methods to debload Windows after installation.
I would suggest people to keep the UAC option enabled. It is quite often preventing alot of malware from being ran or executed even unintentionally.
Do that after separating the partition, don't let your PC consist of only one local disk.

Leaving UAC on and leaving Edge in are probably two of the saner choices you would choose in the answer file. He did preface his video saying everything was stripped to blank canvas, and each user should add back what makes most sense.

There's a lot of ways to learn how to manually debloat, but since you are new, I would suggest you search up Crist Titus Tech (or CTT) channel in youtube. He created a batch script, complete with GUI to make it easier for anyone who don't want to freshly install an already debloated windows. He's sometimes stream what he's doing, so you could directly ask him for any question if you dont understand what you're doing. He also made tons of videos about how to easily debloat Windows for beginners, without even having to reinstall your Windows.

Going to do it on an older PC out of service...and use it for a time to see if it remains operable. My main concern is security, and the many updates Microsoft pushes down out throats. How will the installed system behave? If I leave out updates I am exposed (even with a good antivirus), if I leave them comming it'll likely just update to 24H2 as soon as it downloads...and then what??
My Windows 10 was so fast after (finally) reinstalling it using this answers file that when I'd click the start menu, it felt like the menu would pop up before I even clicked it. I started my fresh Windows copy with only 69 (nice) processes. I've sent this video to a ton of people looking to reinstall and debloat.

Literally nobody pays for windows except corporations. It's essentially a free product. You can argue otherwise but again, nobody pays for windows it's free on their main site.

This is a beautiful work of art, specially since it doesn't require unknown external tools and/or files. I'll definitely modify it to my needs and include a few tweaks I commonly apply to my Windows after installation.
I only wish it would also include all known registry tweaks for Windows 10/11, with a comment indicating with what version of Windows it works, since some tweaks only work up to version XY, while other only work since version YZ, but I guess that could be a HUGE endeavor and require many people to work on it and test it thoroughly.
I'm so glad you like it! You are more than welcome to contribute to the file on GitHub with your mentioned tweaks, but like you said it would take a lot of testing. This file took me a few weeks to finalize for both 10 & 11.

Hi, thankyou for replying and reciprocating my initial concerns with regard to this "optional" for some, way of installing Windows. For some people out there with not necessarily a "Potato PC", but still own a pc that is still behind the current times spec-wise, or just own a pc that is aging just a little, then I can see the potential performance advantages for some with a comp that is not too old to benefit from this way of installing Windows, but by the time they finish fully "tweaking" thier install, they still kind of need to get things right, or quite possibly, problems will ensue further down the line for them - this is just something worth bearing in mind especially when install methods like this seem a little too enticing not to try. Anyway hopefully, most out there trying your method of installing this modded Windows installation are not noobs, and will probably be ok doing this with within fair reason - hopefully anyway.
On a final note, so you know, I myself am a well seasoned PC builder/User of Windows (pretty much all variations of across the years) as well as various other o/s`s too, with well over 30 years of experience, and so as you might imagine, I`m used to having known of, or either experienced Windows modds/install variations, as well as a myriad of so-called Windows hacks over the years myself, and clearly that knowledge base and experience has left me a bit better off when it comes to things like this than most. I guess for those trying this modded Windows method for themselves, I don`t doubt for a moment that this will probably, put simply, be a small part of thier learning curve too in the oh so "fun" world of pc building/installing, and general use of too lol . just spent a week picking the perfect parts for my new pc (7800x3d, 7900gre) and it should be here sometime within the next 2 weeks. already have the usb ready with the windows 10 media creation tool, but i definitely needed this since i'd have gone through a lot of windows disabling things i wouldn't need, but you can never get to all of it; there's just too much with things being essentially impossible to disable. i'll download this and go through it, enabling the things i think i'll need, and after the installation i'll reply to this comment and let you know how it went :)

Anytime I've tried tweaks like this that is exactly what happens. You may get away with your "dream" setup for a period of time but eventually the updates will ruin it.
I just wish someone would make a reliable and trustworthy windows clone that could run all windows programs and also support everyone's existing hardware. There is a wide open market for someone to swoop in and take on this type of project but how that all becomes a reality with copyright, security, and just basic public trust who knows.
I think this specific approach should be tested for at least 12 - 18 months to see how things pan out in the long run. To anyone who is considering this please just know that MS actively searches for these types of projects and will go out of its way to put in an update that ruins it all.

I was using windows for last 14 years. Recently I have shifted to Ubuntu and I'm loving it. I don't think I am gonna ever come back to windows again but in case I do. I will follow this video. The things I do in Ubuntu is mainly development and It serves me well.

Hello there ! Thanks a lot for your video and guide. I have a small problem to my liking which i cant solve it as it seems. When i try to search, in windows search the applications that i installed, for example Outlook, Teams, Discord and other, it seems it cant find them. I changed the Windows Search options and excluded folders, included in the search index advance options but it seems it doesn't work properly. Hey there, I've seen a lot of people mention this on GitHub as well. At this moment, I don't know exactly what causes it. I use apps like StartAllBack, Open Shell and Flow Launcher which basically replaces the search, so I haven't had that issue. I will check it out in the future.

0:40, But will it have the right and fully functional Bluetooth driver though? It's a constant thorn in my side now. Even if I manually install one that isn't broken, and completely disabled automatic updates via group policy edit, Windows will automatically overwrite it and use the old broken Bluetooth driver anyway. The absolute only way for me to prevent this is to permanently disabled internet access for that PC, or it will revert the change as soon as it connects.
The driver updates are still enabled so I think you will be having issues with Bluetooth.

Disabling UAC is a bad thing.
Settting "Ultimate Performance" profile by default is probably counter-productive for laptops.
Removing XboxApp... I guess you can't play Microsoft Flight Simulator anymore.
Hiding Language Switcher is counter-productive for those who uses several languages.
Dark Mode is personal preference.
Disabling "Let websites provide locally relevant content by accessing my language list" is personal preference and usually counter-productive. I think it doesn't affect Chrome, Firefox and other browsers but I am not sure.
Just remove the lines of code you don't want included.

@@aicelsmash1168 UAC is a security feature. Sort of 'sudo' for Windows. By disabling it you reduce your protection against malware.
I'm usually disabling UAC first thing after installation, the popups with warnings are extremely annoying, not sure who bearing with them.
I imagine that a Windows update will re-install Edge and perhaps many other things as well.

Yes, I have only enabled security updates and delayed the others by 2 years. So far, Windows Update hasn't installed any of the apps back yet.

Just wanted to clarify some expectation based on Microsoft documentation, so if find your OS is updating before you expect it to, you know why :)
Both DeferFeatureUpdatesPeriodinDays and DeferQualityUpdatesPeriodinDays (as most refer to Regular Updates and Security Only Updates respectively) cannot be set as long as this script has been set to - 2 years, their maximums are as following according to this documentation: DeferFeatureUpdatesPeriodinDays 0-365 days, DeferQualityUpdatesPeriodinDays 0-35 days.
So setting to 730 for both is not reflective of what is permitted or respected by the OS.
365 days is the maximum for Regular Updates and 35 days for Security Updates.
However this is a great video and very informative! Keep up the great work.

if you're concerned with update being automatically downloaded, just go to windows update and change the setting to ask you first before downloading the update.
this way, you can always decline the update

You can swap these values in autounattend.xml, or if you already installed debloated Windows you can create a .bat script with these.
@@kamalsameh3338 you don't have to change nothing. Basically, if you install this windows 11 clean instalation, your pc will autoupdate and download all the bloatware from windows 11 original in one year, and there is nothing you can do for avoid this.

Hi from Australia thanks for this i was going to install a modified windows iso by atlas or another windows x-lite ultimate 11 cobalt but it seems risky because they could contain nasties. Your way looks safer . Thanks again.
Glad I could help and that's one of the main points I made in my video, this is much safer because I'm not making any modifications to the actual Windows Image. It just automates a bunch of scripts and registry keys after Windows is already installed.

Look I think I know what you're saying and I'm sure it will work. You can also just copy the UnattendedWinstall answer file onto the 22H2 USB and do a clean install of Windows. I think it will work.

Successfully installed W11 using the xml file w/Notepad, Edge, MP from GitHub. I have a question though. Windows update still shows many updates ready to install and it says that "you have reached the maximum amount of pause time". Also shows the update pending icon on the system tray. Is that expected behavior? Only a few needed updates went through automatically, without my action nothing else has been installed. Just making sure updates don't restart tomorrow 😅.
On a different note, everything went great and the installation literally flies on my almost 10 year old Asus N56.

It's normal. Script doesn't allow Feature Updates to be installed (such as Microsoft Teams, or other bloatware) and because of that, it will show you that you have pending updates.

Not sure if that is causing this problem.. CTT WinUtil does not install most of the apps I have selected. I've tried selecting only 5-6, and it may install one, or none. But when I try to install all 20 apps, it fails.

Yeah that's because of one of the HKLM Registry entries, you'll have to remove the entry if you want control over that.

Really nice! I see you run CTT in the process. Do you think you unattend could work on an ISO already reduced with CTT microwin or changes are required (potentially some of the softwares you try to remove could not exist in the reduced ISO)?
I haven't tested MicroWin yet so I'm not sure. As far as I know, he uses his own Unattend file for MicroWin so I don't know if it's going to cause issues. It's worth a try though

Clean and barebones is the default for many linux distributions. If you value privacy, performance, lack of Ads, maybe its worthwhile to think if you really need windows or are using it just because of "inertia"
Also, while a valuable tool, this file is not going to remove the encrypted registry keys from Windoze. Can you really trust an operating system without every bit & byte of code plainly reviewable?

In my experience so far, no. Because I only allow Security Updates to be installed, feature and quality updates are delayed by 2 years.

@@memstechtips you can delete folder Download in software distribution and replace it with file named Download, and you will block any updates.
This is fantastically useful, the only issue I am having is even after editing the file to remove all the references to onedrive I still can't get it to install/run on the install

Worked great on Win 11 23h2, process count was 62, did all updates & now just 80. Normally about 150 on normal install. This was on a 9th gen i7 with 16gb ram laptop.

There is one drawback: after the first major update, almost everything disabled/deleted will return.
Very true, but when a major update releases, let's say 24H2 in our current timeframe, I will do a clean install of 24H2 with the answer file, I won't do an in place upgrade, and I'm guessing most people will too.

at a certain point you have to ask what the point is of running Windows in 2024 when it requires this number of workarounds to get a usable OS
I recently did a 22H2 to 23H2 update and the old settings stayed in place. New features will most likely be enabled, yes. Even if settings get changed/reset the CTT script takes less than 5 minutes to run (it also supports config files, so you can just export->import your original settings).
It will be disabled, returned, or break your system. Just reminder do system restore or disabled major update, only security update enable
Appreciate this. I'm switching to Linux Zorin and Mint on all of my devices but a slimmed down version of Windows to boot up when needed is very helpful.

This is what I’ll suggest to people that require Windows and can’t switch to Linux. This is the next best thing.
