    Thank you. Helped my friend out. He had a few failed sensors. All start related. After a while it had trouble starting. Once it started we let it run for a little while then turned it off to pickup and put some tools away. After a while the car wouldn’t start. Found this video and purged some fuel. It started right away. He’s going to buy a fancy screwdriver to put on his keychain. 2008 Jeep Commander

    I had this problem on my for the past 3 years 2008 jeep with 350,000 miles, I think the main issues is the that engine is running to hot, keep your temp gage under 1/2 after running, I had this happen when my thermostat was faulty, the second time was when antifreeze was low. every time the temp gage went over 1/2 I had this problems

    Good morning My son has the same issue on his 08 jeep Grand Cherokee 3.7 As A Mechanic for over 47 yrs. i had these issues back in the Day... so i tryed so old school troubleshooting, i ran an aux fan to a switch & relay to this fan and let it run as car is running , i also hooked up a pressure tester with gauge & release button, and finally i installed a cold air intake to get rid of that hot closing filter cover. My son is driving her and we will be testing this out for one week.. will get you info. thanks for your video..

    Glad I came to this video, I have resolved this issue a few years ago, by just adding non ethanol fuel to the tank; those new gasoline mixes contains crazy amounts of ethanol (I live in Florida and gets pretty hot) while resting in the hot rails ethanol will boil at a lower point than just regular pure gasoline and therefore create vapor lock. Of course non ethanol fuel is extremely expensive especially right now, I simply add a can or two of seafoam to neutralize the ethanol and avoid vapor lock. Hope my 2 cents help! 😁

      G B,
      I agree non-ethanol fuel helps. I run it in all of my small engine equipment and our 1930 Model A. It works great. Unfortunately it would be crazy expensive to constantly put in a daily driver. I did try it, but the fuel cost was astronomical.

    2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo with failed start on first go but always starts on the second with no signs of working overtime for the second crank. It almost sounds as if the engine didn’t turn over fully but cranks and turns over just fine any other time when starting from cold. Only happens when the truck is up to running temp.

  • @pacmanfan1977

    I have had this problem for years with my wifes 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee. It would be intermittent and yesterday I think I found the cause. The producer of this video of this correct it is indeed vapor lock, but check your coolant level! I had a leaking water pump- and this caused my Jeep to began doing this no start but crank condition. While replacing this water pump, I also decided to flush my coolant system. After installing the new pump I began to refill the system with coolant. I took the car for a ride, and noticed it was getting hotter than normal due to a air pocket in the coolant system. This really aggravated the no start symptom (vapor lock).- worse than ever before! Once I completely filled the coolant the car was fine the rest of the day. Having low coolant would effect the temperature of the intake manifold and the fuel rails are right there. So in short- YES this is vapor lock, but check your coolant system for the proper coolant level- this will allow the temp to stay low. This is why these cars did not due this when new. Once leaks develop, or fluid levels are not correct, the temp will rise and cause the vapor lock.
    In fact this is the 3rd water pump I have installed, and all my crank but no starts started happening when these pumps began leaking.

However she has also had issues with the theft deterrent system since they did the ignition recall. Sometimes switching keys will allow it to start. Right there behind your battery,The purge solenoid is part of the evaporative emissions system that takes the vapor from the tank through a charcoal canister and opens so the vapor is sucked into the intake and burnt rather then released to the atmosphere. Problem is the fuel is boiling due to excessive alcohol content that lowers the boiling point of the fuel .Heat soak is an issue with many .Worked as a Chrysler tech for years back when they had Daimler.We had a TSB ON THE 4.0L and had to add heat shields to the fuel rail and open up the rubber next to the radiator to give it air . Try a different brand of fuel .Different then they were 10 years ago .Try washing out your radiator and condenser fins for better cooling air flow. .There may be a computer reprogram also for this issue maybe .Chrysler is not one to brag about these issues unless you ask.

    • @adamserafini6945
      @adamserafini6945 11 місяців тому

      @@panzerichi3837 No limp mode will not cause no compression issue on any cylinder . Jumping time will SINCE the 3.7l engine is an interference engine meaning when valve timing goes out piston comes up and hits valves .It does not freewheel when timing chain jumps . Engine probably needs to come apart .Pull the heads and timing chain cover and inspect and see what is still good. Possible piston damage can happen when it hits the valve if your unlucky to be blunt. Hope this helps. Rare instance if the 3 dead cylinders are washed out BY extreme over fueling like 3 stuck open injectors .But you would smell it bad and sometimes I have seen it shoot out the exhaust pipe raw fuel .Serious dangerous situation. You would smell it bad if that were the case .Not for the novice!

    Just happened to me again today on 3.7 WK GC, the first time it happened was two years ago, this was second time. Right before this happened, I was driving low speed around parking lot, so these were prime conditions for heat buildup, vehicle was parked for about 20 minutes, then no start condition. After three short cranks it started, when its cranking it does sound much worse than vapor lock condition, probably cuz this engine has never cranked more than 1 second in 15 years and always starts no issue, same starter, the drivetrain is military grade with Mercedes W5A580. Thanks for the tip, next time I try this method.

    Did you have any issues with an intermittent misfire, i.e. misfires while driving or at a stop light only when the engine is hot? Popping the hood to allow extra airflow in the engine bay helps considerably to alleviate the misfires unless it's really hot outside. Scan tool only shows codes for p0300 (random misfire) and p0201-208 (fuel injector circuit malfunctions). The wiring seems fine, I'm stumped.

    • @CCWP0251
      @CCWP0251  4 роки тому

      Cole,
      I did not have those issues with my Jeep. However that is a common problem with most modern vehicles that utilize a coil-over-plug system. When coil packs start to go bad, they'll begin to deteriorate on the inside. This causes intermittent misfires only when the engine is hot. The P-0300 code is simply telling you "I know there is an intermittent misfire, but it is not frequent enough to pinpoint which cylinder." If you can, warm the vehicle up and put it in a situation where it will steadily misfire (Running, up to temp, in gear, foot on brake). Let it misfire for a while. The PCM will have to be able to detect a steady misfire to determine the correct cylinder. Once you have this info, replace that coil pack.

    So im going to say this if this might help try copper or aluminum clips around the entire fuel line instead of plastic. It could actually eliminate the problem because of its heat dispacing qualities, it may also be prudent to put some sort of polymer/plastic jacketing over the those clips to get the reduction in top heat. Try it out.

    • @CCWP0251

      Sounds like a fuel delivery problem, or possibly a sensor failure. Do you have a check engine light on? If so, have the codes read and it'll more than likely tell you exactly what it is. If no CEL is on, it may simply be a fuel pump relay or the fuel pump itself.

    That valve you push on is called a Schrader Valve. It is the same as AC hoses to a manifold for checking the pressure in the system. So go to NAPA and get a replacement hose. That wont solve your problem, but, now you will have something that will fit that valve. Happy Hunting.

    Try next time try changing the water thermostat to a 180-degree.
    Any less temp will make an engine check light to come on. Also, you can change the radiator from a two core to a 4 core aluminum. This will make your engine run a lot cooler and last longer.

      No updates currently. The only thing that somewhat helps is running Ethanol Free fuel (straight gas). Aside from that, I'm still having intermittent issues and use this temporary fix. Basically I've been told that it is a 10+ year old vehicle and they are not required by law to produce parts and/or recall for any non-safety related issues. So basically, we are stuck with what we've got.

    I cannot believe this for a minute I think what you’re dealing with is a sensor on the vehicle that shut the vehicle off from running it gets heat soaked when the vehicle is shut off and this showing a higher temperature then what the engine actually is these engines have a electronic cooling fan which is controlled by sensor that may be malfunctioning as well totally impossible to get vapor lock in that fuel rail design just a thought get a diagnostic tool shut the vehicle off after running it and check the temperatures on the sensors

    • @CCWP0251
      @CCWP0251  3 роки тому +1

      Not entirely. I do agree that Ethanol burns hotter, which is contributing to the issue. Running straight non-ethanol gas tends to make the issue less common. However I still believe the issue is the lack of return to the tank. That alone would solve the issue entirely, but unfortunately it isn't a part produced by Chrysler. One could probably engineer his own though. 🤷‍♂️

      Need some more specifics. If it's the 4.0 In-Line 6 cylinder, chances are it could be this very issue. I have seen it happen with those motors as well. However it could be a fuel delivery issue (i.e: Fuel pump, or check valve on the fuel pump) which is designed to hold pressure in the lines. Could also be as simple as a stopped up fuel filter.
