The owner wouldn't know this was going to be complex issue. Possibly the fuel pump had burned out running all the time after the ECM failed and needed replacement. Avoca can't support a full time diagnostic tech, but neither does it need a couple dozen. But it apparently does keep a fair number of shops in business. So it looks like Eric and the other shops have a nice informal network set up going.

Nice diag Eric! But a pcm failing on a Chrysler product? Virtually unheard of! LOLThey should really include one in the glove box when you buy these vehicles new.
I have spare PCM already programmed, stored under the back seat of my dodge dakota. Dude, I just watched the thumbnail preview of this video and the close captioning said "Hello, and welcome to cell phone". I don't know why I thought that was hilarious! Must be the sore throat coming through. Oh, thanks for another great video, by the way! 😁
Usually the 02 sensors shorting out will either blow the ASD fuse or mess with the ecu. Make sure you check and see if there is a short in the 02 sensors. Iv been through this numerous times. I replaced the ecu in these vehicles just to have I happen again 1 month later because of the o2 sensor wires rubbing on metal or rubbing the drive shaft.
once again showing that testing is key! I really thought it was a relay and I was WRONG. Great video. (Full disclosure, I no longer bend a wrench to make a living so any input I had would be a guess! )
I want a hoodie from SMA. “There’s that damn compressor AGAIN!!” With the SMA logos, natch. 😂😂 That compressor out-foxes you every time. Love the video!! A Chrysler ECM failing? UNHEARD OF!! Jeez, Eric.
Yup. Another Chrysler ECM failure. IDK who's building these things for ol Ma Mopar but between those and TIPMs they are complete garbage. I keep a couple laying around in the shop just for testing purposes. No, the vehicle won't start cuz they have not had the VIN burned into them yet, but they will test and confirm 90% of what doesn't work . Love that relay tester set BTW. Use it all the time.
Great troubleshooting. I live for the day I can hear the compressor running, the heater going, the doorbell dinging and the phone ringing all at the same time.
I am truly impressed by your knowledge. Its way past my pay grade lol,, ill be watching your train of thought and find i don’t have enough bread crumbs to find my way home lol.. of course I’m not a mechanic , impressive none the less ..
My guess would be inadequate ESD protection on the I/O points is causing damage way too easily. It's not a good idea to connect or disconnect things while they're live when that's the case, because the spikes can destroy the input or output line. ESD = Electro Static Discharge. I/O = Input / Output, for those wondering.
Another straight forward repair. .. though I have a hard time condemning an ECM, I think in this case it was easier, especially after confirming powers & grounds at it (even though off camera this time). It also makes it an easier decision when you can install a used one or one that doesn't cost a $1000 or more. Lol.
As a fellow mechanic, I know the first thing you should do. Remove the car door....................... If you get Hot, you can roll down the window! :)

Nice diag Eric! But a pcm failing on a Chrysler product? Virtually unheard of! LOLThey should really include one in the glove box when you buy these vehicles new.
I have spare PCM already programmed, stored under the back seat of my dodge dakota. My mechanic said the PCM was bad, I got one, he installed it...same prob... so....after a few hundred $$ later, other mechanic found the broken wire from the PCM to the ASDL relay..vroom! Now I have a spare PCM and my pocket is a few hundred dollars lighter ...first pcm was good...
Glad that Chrysler does not make jet plane parts....
The newer ones should include a spare TIPM as well LOL.
@@alanmatthews5949 But they do make aviation and aerospace products !!! :O(
@@alanmatthews5949 where the ECMs are $100,000 instead of $1000?
Awesome diagnosis eric, I love these videos. I like a good challenge, keeps you sharp and on your toes.
Great diagnostics Eric O.
JEEP CHRYSLER ARE KRAP
GET SUBIE ,OR HONDA
Nice video…. I ran into a similar issue with the kids 97 grand Cherokee ended up replacing the PCM ...runs good once again.
Man you're such a good mechanic and I'm getting ready to retire and I love cars and I would love to learn so much from you I found it in Upstate New York at me just to hang around go get parts sweep the shop just to learn
Its always a pleasure watching your videos mr. O and family Keep em coming
I don't know what it is but I have watched a lot of UA-cam because that's what I like doing I like your channel because I just love it but yours the only one that blacks out and I have to go back and restart it again I don't know what that's all about but I'm just letting you know I don't know if anybody else is having a problem or not but keep up the good work God Bless America jeeps and BBQ
Dude, I just watched the thumbnail preview of this video and the close captioning said "Hello, and welcome to cell phone". I don't know why I thought that was hilarious! Must be the sore throat coming through.
Oh, thanks for another great video, by the way! 😁
Thanks for coming in today Fella
been a subscriber for a while now, but you're definitely in my top 5 favorite youtubers.
Thxs Eric, never boring always the 'BEST'....
Thanks so much for not letting us hanging....awesome as always...!!!!😀😀
I like that scanner, and is fast too,i know you moving fast and the scanner is perfect for you
I have had a TON of that style Chrysler ECM's being bad. I have tried the repaired/reman ones and they are usually junk as well.
Ahhhhh, I jumped in to quick. Lucky the wrecking yard PCM worked! Great Job!
Great Video , always walk away with something new !!!
once again showing that testing is key! I really thought it was a relay and I was WRONG. Great video. (Full disclosure, I no longer bend a wrench to make a living so any input I had would be a guess! )
I really thought it was A relay also I would be too afraid to Replace the ECM but then I’m not Eric O
Dam ecu having a bad hair day.
'If you can do it, We can't do it' in this case :-D
I want a hoodie from SMA. “There’s that damn compressor AGAIN!!” With the SMA logos, natch. 😂😂 That compressor out-foxes you every time. Love the video!! A Chrysler ECM failing? UNHEARD OF!! Jeez, Eric.
Great find! Does that scantool come with that info/wiring diagram program and is it any good on Euros?
Look who's jumping on the no-start train haha!
All that for a faulty ECM. Real nice Chrysler. Nice work Eric O!
What is it with Chryslers chewing up ECM's... Perhaps they need a better proffesional soddderer!
My guess would be inadequate ESD protection on the I/O points is causing damage way too easily.
It's not a good idea to connect or disconnect things while they're live when that's the case, because the spikes can destroy the input or output line.
ESD = Electro Static Discharge.
I/O = Input / Output, for those wondering.
funnily enough same issue with fiat in europe, ecu failing ...i wonder what is the connection.....
The problem is they dont use lead base solder.
Another straight forward repair. .. though I have a hard time condemning an ECM, I think in this case it was easier, especially after confirming powers & grounds at it (even though off camera this time).
It also makes it an easier decision when you can install a used one or one that doesn't cost a $1000 or more. Lol.
I'm taking it to a garage now with this video !
I like your style Eric, hopefully ECM will cure it, looks like you have plenty of work anyway..Fred in England.
Whewww--- I was worried about your fav. hat. Glad its back
As a fellow mechanic, I know the first thing you should do. Remove the car door....................... If you get Hot, you can roll down the window! :)
Nice quick diagnostics, on to part 2.
Great video Eric O
You are really good at what you do.
Look after yourself Eric hope you get rid of the sore throat soon
