Appreciate this video, just had the ignition switch go out on my ‘72 and I about pulled the whole steering shaft out thinking the steering lock didn’t come off the shaft. Glad I saw this!
Super helpful for my 1983 RamCharger. The actual switch harness took a dump. I tried two brand new ones today and no crank or full power to the dash. I used a meter to check the new ones. Both faulty from the factory. I got acc and ign nothing else. My friend was helping today and when we got stuck he wanted to get destructive. I said get your ass inside and lets find a good UA-cam video before shit gets broken. 5 minutes and we had direction. The shop book I have does not break any of this down. Your video made clear sense enough for us to access the switch harness. Which is under $25 from Autozone. If you can get one from duracrash that does more than look right in the picture. Good video and easy to follow, pretty much all that's needed to take apart a Mopar basic steering column. 5 thumbs up and to hell with haters. 1966 Baracuda 273HO 4 speed 1968 Coronet 440 318 2 door 1973 W200 Powerwagon 360/4-speed 1974 Colt station wagon 4 banger w/4 speed (love to have that one back for odd reasons) 1983 Ramcharger 318/auto 1989 Ramcharger parts truck 2004 Ram 2500 Hemi w/5-speed NV4500 and 4.10's 4x4 off road package Love Mopar machines and I learned some new shit today. Thanks.
Thanks for the video man. It sure helps me out. I just hope that my lock cylinder install goes this well. The lock cylinder in my 71 Satellite turns freely, and in a complete 360.
What direction is the lock pin supposed to come out of the plate that looks like a saw blade? 3:04 I've tried pounding on it but can not get it to move. I've even tried wd40. 😫 Also what tool would you recommend for getting it out? A hammer and a punch?
@@hrwillum8195 I was, yes! Turned out I didnt need to move it at all. Just needed to remove the right screw and loosen the left screw on the metal plate above the steering wheel. This allowed me to rotate it a little and get to the ignition mechanism. Just needed a couple long screwdrivers to push the pins in the ignition lock mechanism and it popped right out. I did have troubles getting it put back together because somewhere along the way I messed up the horn wire and now it goes off randomly. So i had to disconnect the horn completely. :/
@@ashleyporterroy4043 excellent, glad that worked for you! I've got to keep going to get to the ignition starter but I appreciate you responding - especially so promptly. Wish me luck!
Having problems making my 73 Duster start. It has headlight on and working lights the oil light came on a little but went off. But when I turn the ignition switch (steering wheel apart) nothing happens but the alternator gauage going down a little bit much then back up to normal. Has a new: battery, ballist resistor, starter ignition relay, ignition switch inside the steering wheel, and ignition control circuit, My dad got the car to turn over and start by using a screwdriver on the starter . I tapped the starter with a hammer to see if that would help... nothing. I have a manual so I press the clutch down and start the car in Neutral right? But still no crank. What am I doing wrong!?
Coming along nicely man! I just wanted to keep you up to date here on my end a little. Was going to try to upload my first video of my car yesterday, but I'm not great at editing so I really messed the video up. I'm going to have to record it again. I'm thinking Wednesday this coming week. I'm also going to a KDM meet here and I'm going to try to make a separate video as well. Just a heads up man.
I think my switch is defective even with charged battery not getting 12 volts to coil when cranking Ballast resistor is good !!! When u try to crank once u release ignition switch as u rotate to off position the motor will rotate counterclockwise
Hay I got a question for you. I also have a dodge dart mine is a 1975 and my glove box is jammed and I can't get it to open do you have any trick to get it open?

pokebass1 oh yuck lol.
what did you use to knock out the pin. I am having a hard time taking the pin out of the steering wheel lock plate
How does the horn come off?
..twist
@benwright6330 I figured it out. The center pops out and theres 3 screws underneath it.
I said the same thing...money for such a simple removal.
Quick question.. how did you remove the rubber outer horn button? Just starting out
..twist
Where did you get the key assembly
How you get that pin , ??????

What year is the vehicle? I got a 78 B series Dodge van and wanna make sure my ignition switch looks like yours.
Mark Sky the Off-Grid RV Guy This is a 75 Dodge Dart. The switch should be the same
TheDustyaman awesome to see someone else saving a 75!

Dude! You can borrow the puller from O’Reilly’s.

JuggernautPig26 didn’t need to. They were all broke
TheDustyaman lol, thanks. I just got mine off with an adjustable wrench

Why did you skip over the installation of new switch?
Total wasre of time. BAH!
J Allen Jones with new switch all you have to do is push it in and it locks in place. That’s it
