Once again, I have to thank you for this channel and your expertise! I PROUDLY still own my 1996 decked out, one of a kind, Conversion Ford Explorer! It’s wonderful knowing that I can check here for pointers that a Haynes manual doesn’t tell you regarding idiosyncrasies between the different years! It has over 250K miles on it and I wish I had kept it as a Collecter car. If I could find another, I’d buy it in a heartbeat! It’s interesting that when ordering the key cylinder replacement, they needed to know the exact month and date it was manufactured. Please keep posting anything else for anyone else who owns these Fords and follows you or for those who might still find your EXCELLENT shared experience and advice!🙏👏😎💕🙏❤️😎🤠!

Thank you very much I love your explanations on how to do things! I don’t mean to complain but there’s too many videos out there of people giving you the full history of their truck before they show you how to do what you’re looking for! In my defense I’m an old bitter crabby old man with no patience and I don’t care to hear about everybody’s personal history on that truck !!

Take a pocket knife and a pair of plyers and twist the ignition. You can put a screw drive run along the side to pop the ignition and install and new ignition lock cylinder they come with keys. Depending on the security your key may need programed or you can use a wire on your starter fuse under the hood.

I just bought 1 of the most beautiful Canadian barn finds I ever came across just because of the shape it's in. A 1971 Lincoln Continental Mark 3. 46000 miles parked in a big open barn in the middle up against a wall since 1979. The car is all there except? The KEYS! I almost died when I popped the hood grabbed the crank and it turned. My question is: How do I pull the ignition out without the keys. To everybody out there that see's this It is up for grabs after I get new keys for it. The other question I have is, should I start the car or leave it for the next guy?

Hey I jist bought a 1991 Ford F-450/F-Super Duty... It has an ignition problem the steering column is the most simple with no wiper controls, cruise, or extra controls of any kind... When I go to turn it on the ignition wants to turn back too far where it kills the engine, I have to remove the shroud and place vise grips on the metal rod to hold it in place. I when I place the vise grips on the rod it can be too far forward to the point where the signals and climate controls won't work (because it thinks the starter is engaged), but if it backs off too much a bump in the road will kill the engine. Luckily its a standard transmission so if it dies going down the road you just turn the ignition forward and it restarts the engine without stopping and engaging the starter again. But if you do this going down the road. Un burnt fuel goes out the exhaust and I literally exploded the muffler driving it home from purchase on a 700kms trip from norther Alberta to southern Alberta. Any tips?

      To the Thunderbird Guy.
I can’t help but tell you the WONDERFUL MEMORIES your comments brought me back to my 1977 Thunderbird that was Playboy’s
Car of The Year! I bought it off the showroom floor in 1978. Mine was one of only 7 built at the factory that were termed “Continental“ Styling! It was SO LUXURIOUS AND people loved it and gave me many compliments and questions. It had a 351 Windsor, 4 barrel carb, and was a bullet!!! But wasn’t terrible on gas, which amazed me!
I restored it and was going to keep it off the road as a collector. Several years later I fell in love with a 40 ft 4 horse living quarters, 3 axel horse trailer that was one of a kind and fit my immediate needs, so I sold it.
A year or 2 later, I was notified that the buyer never transferred the title and it was in the impound lot. I proved my bill of sale and they said it had been trashed and headed for the crusher! It broke my heart! Thanks for helping me remember all the WONDERFUL TIMES I had with that show stopper, I never should have let go of!❤️💕♥️

I had a lock cylinder stop turning on me one very cold morning on my 00 focus. Turns out (no pun intended) the tiny Springs that push the lock bar out must have broke/shattered rendering it useless.
Found the TSB and drilled a 10 mm hole (pilot hole first) to the correct depth and location, then was able to successfully extract the cylinder!

I lost my ford ranger keys to the ignition switch so I used a screw driver and break the lock and wasn't really able to turn it so I drilled the pinball out and that worked now I've got underneath is a bigger hole than the original pinball so it's bigger 😅 I'm wondering 🤔 if I could use jb weld? To fill in it or maybe a bolt ? Would a bolt interfere with anything like the electronics lmk

Love the videos you post great information. I recently replaced the cam fallowers on my 05 Lincoln navigator thanks to your great information. But now im having a different problem, my navigator starts to crank on its own without the ignition being on. Would this be an ignition problem. Thank you so much and i hope to hear from ya

the reason I need to replace my cylinder is because the the tumblers have rusted in place and won’t even slow the key into the cylinder or let alone turn it to the run position. I would actually think that’s the main reason someone would even need to replace the cylinder so any tips on how to remove the ig cylinder without the ability to turn it and depress that ball/button that locks it in place?

1990 ford bronco...won't stay in the running position..I have to make sure it is turned just right to stay running and then any bumps or movment will cause it to turn off. If i hold it foward it stays running. Is it just the cylinder? Or the copper gear..or maybe the plastic gear part? Idk?

Hey, we've got a 98 Windstar and we're working on replacing the ignition lock cylinder and I have a question: the instructions we got with our cylinder say that for some models you have to detach an alarm wire from the old cylinder and attach it to the new one. Is the Windstar one of them, and am I right in that we'd have to remove the shroud on the steering column to attach that wire? Thanks in advance!

There is a little key in sense wire on there most years and a orange switch on the lock cylinder itself. If the lock is not broken the wire will stay in play while the lock cylinder is being removed.

I ended up drilling mine out. Broke 3 bits in the process, but after about an hour, I was eventually able to turn the ignition to the on position. Wish I hadn't lost the key last summer!

TY. I have a question. My windshield wipers will on work if I am giggling the ignition lock cylinder (unless I find "the sweet spot"), does that mean the whole thing is loose? (something is loose the way I can wiggle it).

Apologies...I wanted to follow up with the fact that I did replace the power steering pump a couple months ago but unfortunately there has been air in the line so it has been making a slight whining sound for awhile....not near as bad as before the replacement though. I am taking the truck to rotate the tires next week and will bleed the lines then, but I just wanted to bring that up in case there is a correlation. Thanks.
