mikael is by far the most underrated metal musician of all time... it's not even close... dave mustaine and jon petrucci and the guys from metallica get their just dues, but this guy may be on a level of his own... not that it's a better level, it's just so fucking different and unique... just a special dude... soulful, melodic, technical, rhythmic genius... unbelievable talent... totally one of a kind... jeff waters is also underrated, but there's no comparison to this guy... everything opeth has ever put out is genius

After hearing all the clean vocals for about 40mins then came Heir Apparent, it sounds much heavier than ever! Maybe the effects of the song lists blew my mind. Haha!
+GuildBankLooter The number of amps would make no difference for the crowd whatsoever, what you hear when you see a concert is generally a single speaker of a single cabinet mic'd up and sent to the PA. A lot of the time it's even an amp you don't see, but an "isolated" cab backstage. So I'm afraid any mixing or volume issues hearing a specific instrument etc. would be down to the sound engineer
Sound quality experts obviously don't like open air festivals...shit happens. This is the largest metal fest in the world and to be there is absolutely a metal head's goal. Should be on everyone's bucket list.
When I go for jogging, I measure my time by the number of Opeth songs. Just 3 would do. I used to be in an Opeth cover band, playing bass. Just learning 3 songs was difficult as fuck, to remember lol. Baying of the hounds, Bleak and The Grand Conjuration.
So wish I could have been there. went to Wacken in 2009 but Opeth weren't performing :( I so badly wish they'd come to South Africa! If I had been there last year, 1:15:02 is the exact point at which I would have lost myself completely and died of euphoria a few short minutes later!

It´s the by far worst festival I ever been to if you want to listen to bands and not be just getting drunk at the campground. The Sound department is mediocre at best and that only If you are lucky.

Bass is actually pretty simple. Some guitars in some songs are a challenge, like the acoustic pieces of Still Life.
Is it me or they are playing on a slower tempo? The Drapery Falls sounded kinda strange.
Deliverance especially... The main riff needs speed to sound really agressive and heavy imo.
They've been playing slow ever since they got Axe on drums. He also butchered both Drapery and Deliverance.
