Wacken open air has an open air swimming pool at the end of the town, just by the brewery. A truly metal sight to behold is when a wall of death or a circle pit starts up in the pool.. it's all in slow motion and is bloody hilarious to watch!!
"My friends, we are lucky to be here!" Those words right after a massive group hug sound very prophetic in 2020... Lucky times indeed, when we could have a mass hug with strangers in a metal concert! I hope to be able to do it again sometime in the future!
This guy Devin Townsend is a true human being, he has an ability a gift ;he makes life better with his music ..its kind kinda spiritual ,he challenges to unite the people gathering under one voice ,love .
There's nothing else in the world that can make me smile when down, other than seeing Dev, Ryan, Dave, and Beav's face on a stage playing this music. Then hearing the music. Thank you to all the DTP fans for buying the merchandise, going to the gigs, and buying the albums, that kept this band going. Meeting them several times, and seeing how really cool these people are…. eye opener.
When he asked to show our Canadian flags, embarrassed that I never even thought about bringing one. Seeing Devin on the main stage at Wacken was the peak of my metal experiences to this day.
I don't know why I've never heard of this band or one song in my life I've been listening to metal since I was about fourteen and I'm almost 50how could I have not heard of this band at least once or one song all those years are going to concerts scrolling through UA-cam.... fucking insane.. .I don't think I ever would have been a big fan but definitely they're much better than half the shit that's out there.... And musically in terms of their life show are one of the best in my humble opinion. 🤗
I just pulled somewhat of the same thing. I've been hearing the name Devin Townsend a lot for the past couple months, but I just didn't bother, then someone pushes me to do so today. Then I learned that I DID know who he was! He's Strapping Young Lad! I didn't ever listen to them much, but I had listened to them on occasion like 20 years ago.
Much better sound on the youtube video then it was live. Ive seen him a couple of times and this was a f***** nightmare to listen to! Festival sound is not easy, but when Steel Panther played later it was just amazing.
Metalheads get that stupid rep that we are violent. You would never see such beautiful stuff like that in a hip hop, rap, pop concert. Gosh I love the metal scene.
Patrick Nelson It means she's had a period of her life where she had to cut herself to feel good. If you can survive that, you may walk away a stronger person.
Same thoughts here when I saw it and decided to look into the comments for that. Just 2 comments on the girl, one not so positive and yours. Thank you and big hug
Zenos7 - I think his voice is also a bit fatigued as far as screaming goes in this performance. His regular singing is fine, just seems to have passed his screaming threshold at some point before this show.
Arenas are super difficult to mix. I think it's okay. For sure not the best, but I hear a lot of fatigue in his own vocals, too. There are a lot of variables to consider.
Jordan Kowalski I thought the same he sounds like he’s at about 70% here, the vocal mixing is garbage which is part of it but for sure he’s not quite at his normal level of mind blowing vocal virtuosity. When he’s at 100% it’s otherworldly but even in this show he’s still better than 95% of vocalists out there lol
Start with Epicloud and addicted, that's what I did, Epicloud has for the last 3 years been my favourite album and nothing has really surpassed it (Nightwish came close)
If you liked these you should really check out his MANY other albums... if you enjoyed grace, it's from his album Epicloud. It is quite a bit more poppy-metal, but it is still a great album. I recommend starting with Ocean Machine or Ziltoid as they have a wide variety of his style. If you like super soft stuff, Ghost is a great one as well. Basically all Devy songs are amazing, but those are recommendations. :D
That group hug is the most metal thing I have ever seen
IF DEVIN TELLS YOU TO HUG HAIRY DUDE, YOU FUCKING HUG HAIRY DUDE. LMAO

2:51 Two dudes surf by each other and realize theyre wearing the exact same outfit. This show was fucking adorable.
Devin Townsend, the DeadPool of heavy music.
JdbManalo the Rick Sánchez of metal Wubba Lubba dub-dub
and the Voldemwort.
hi josh
@@johnnybadilla9584 oh god no
On every video with Devin that is the first comment. It is so true though lol
11:20 Group Hug, Wall of Dudes.
FUCKING HILARIOUS!
and the guy in the middle got a boner 😂
Devin can actually achieve us world-peace if they let him to.
This guy Devin Townsend is a true human being, he has an ability a gift ;he makes life better with his music ..its kind kinda spiritual ,he challenges to unite the people gathering under one voice ,love .
Not a single false note with him, never, impressive. True talented live singer.
Fry screaming in tune at a live performance is not an easy task.
And you can even hear from his voice that he wasn't in top condition. But it was still more than just fine!
Especially in Kingdom. He is one of the best singers!
Devin is our Motzart!! Metal is one big dysfunctional family of love!! METAL!! To all my metal brothers and sisters!
Ha, only at a Devin concert could you see a bunch of metal dudes having a group hug. Devin is awesome.
That was the day I fell in love with this guys music. Indeed!
+Marta Rho Welcome to the family!
+Marta Rho
Yeh, I was the same!
I just discovered Devin and i dont know how to......... Oh men i dont know. Just amazing.
There are no words to describe Devin. Only thing I know that's he's a gift to all of us! :)
This definitely can't be categorized as hair-metal...
Bare-metal
That's why he's so concerned with sun screen.
There's nothing else in the world that can make me smile when down, other than seeing Dev, Ryan, Dave, and Beav's face on a stage playing this music. Then hearing the music. Is intergaláctic orquestal zoocore
Except he doesn't have any hair xD
His crowd interaction is above reproach..........he is sooo entertaining!
Devin Townsend, the man Who advice you to put on sunscreen And do group hug in metal festival. Love that dude
The group hug! One of my all time favorite Devin moments!
When he asked to show our Canadian flags, embarrassed that I never even thought about bringing one.
Seeing Devin on the main stage at Wacken was the peak of my metal experiences to this day.
That’s pretty badass 🤘🏻🤘🏻
How to be a great and serious artist and performer without taking yourself too seriously.
Having familiarised myself with SYL recently, it's actually quite refreshing to see hevy devy smiling and having such a good time :)
The hugs were the most beautiful thing I'd ever seen.
The camera work is brilliant
2:41 that reaction made my heart sing
CUE THE GENERIC ARBITRARY METALCORE AT THE START OF EVERY VIDEO, COMPLETELY BRUTALISING MY EARS. THANKS FOR THAT.
WAH!
I want the SYL to The DTP transition to happen in my life.
Agreed, I am currently at "Home Nucleonics" in my life, its crazy.
Hope two years have at least gotten you somewhere onto Alien or The New Black, brother!
The Filler would love to hear that live.
Dude. RIGHT? Same tho
This man is such an inspiration
I'm 99'99% sure that the person that mixed this concert is a bassist
You have to admit that Spector tone is worthy of being heard
Thanks to God
Probably or. The sound tech is really good
I like a lot of bass tho.
I'm not complaining, usually these festival live videos are mixed so poorly, all shallow and dry
"I want you to hug everybody over there! And I want you to hug everybody over there!" Rob Dukes (Exodus)
If you're ever feeling down, just listen to this and enjoy happyness.
0:20 The most beautiful flag in the world! Qué dichosos haber presenciado al gran Devin! PV
11:30 beautiful moment
First time I missed Wacken in 6 years and what a year it was. I miss the holy land so much
lmao @ the sun screen adlib. Devin's the man.
GRACE to you! We're lucky to be here.
The greatest thing I have ever seen.
Look at 3:38 - 3:41 Guy in red shirt holding his hat. LOL LOL! What a legend!!!
Devin is absolutely unbelievable.
Jeff Mora Townsend fuckin rocks dude, he’s legit my fave *probably ever*
Canada's Greatest!!

This dude sings fucking awesome!!
Those cloudy sky shots are perfect for the first song, nice work camera dude!
11:02 I just remembered my teenage days on Vancouver Island and the entirely different vibe that Canada has. And I fucking miss it.
Costa Rica fucking pura vida mi parte Favorita

Hey folks, enjoy this time with him because you won't see anyone that special again for a long long time
don't forget sunscreen, it's so metal!! \m/, you don't want your mother to be dissapointed, right? that's not metal.
bronce it's a metal XD
lol 10:40 onwards... Epic Wacken hug! On ya Devy!

Awesome music and signing , the sound arrangements are stunning 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
“We’re lucky to be here!” Fact, That has proved true now in lockdown, miss live concerts
Ryan sounds awesome live!!!
1:18 check that shit out yo
Best part at 9:19 hahaha. Specially how happy they look after it!
Any man that has the Mandelbrot Set on his guitar is automatically classified as a fucking badass in my opinion.
need more bands like this damn
Group hug! Devin is the best!
only at a fucking DTP show would you see drunk dudes in mosh pits being encouraged to get in a group hug lol
Metalheads get that stupid rep that we are violent. You would never see such beautiful stuff like that in a hip hop, rap, pop concert. Gosh I love the metal scene.
1:20 god she has a lot of wrist cut scars
+Gray Piano Flying Just shows she's been through shit.
+Chris DiBella How do you figure?
Patrick Nelson It means she's had a period of her life where she had to cut herself to feel good. If you can survive that, you may walk away a stronger person.
I think you are giving her an underserved benefit of the doubt. Do you know her?
+Chris DiBella More like it shows she's a psychotic. Sane people don't deliberately hurt themselves that often.
Man it's weird to hear Anneke's voice without seeing her there .
Devin is fu******* awesome!!!!
I think this is the ONLY metal band in witch no one has long hair.
To be fair, at one time he did have long hair.
"hair" :D
Rob Halford: "oh that's cute"
@@wildcatfromhell2522 Halford is gay. It doesn't count.
arturro545 the fuck?
Camera fail at 11:52. I am laughing my shit off lol he just disappeared
3:39 XD Yes! Guy with the blue cap! This is exactly what it is for! Enjoy yourself! (I was looking the same at my first contact with heavy Devy.)
1:19 Those cuts... hectic
It was so beautiful watching those scars and then the happiest singing face to go proudly along with it. Metal it's pure salvation
Six years later, I hope she’s doing OK.
The fucking group hug, LOL! Dev is something else, man...
That redhead at 1:20 singing is one of the purest things ever
Same thoughts here when I saw it and decided to look into the comments for that. Just 2 comments on the girl, one not so positive and yours. Thank you and big hug
There`s a special place in hell for people placing a yt ad in the middle of Kingdom.
This is amazing!!
A beardless Beav looks weird as hell to me now after watching the Transcendence tour vids
beardless Beav feels like it's not Beav hahaha
Actually he looks normal to me. I've seen videos of him with long hair without the beard so yeah
Love Devin.. go man go!!
That mandelbrot on his guitar :D
This man is great!
I really missing gigs and festivals :(
We can see howTownsend save our souls
Phil Anselmo would be proud of this comment section. You guys definitely understand what metal is about.
Reminder about sunscreen . . . then OH SHIT . . . Does not get any better! Luv ya Dev.
Props to the camera guys for finding the five girls in attendance!
The performance has been so good, that their hairs decided to listen them with the crowd.
The extasy in high in these dudes
Such a cute couple on 16:12 :3
He have a Mandelbrot set on his guitar 🤘🏻
0:40 Social distancing before social distancing was a thing!
hes awesome and his band is great!
Ese brazo izquierdo 1:19; parece que hay problemas en casa
1:18 Ladies and gentlemen, we got a cutter. Get a load of that left arm.
Oh, snap! Just realized this is the same stage Pucifer played on as well
The best and baldest metal band ever
Wall of...dude haha awesome xD
Does Devin actually have a graphic of the Mandelbrot set on his guitar?
oh god... i was there...
AMAZING
If Devin thinks he's emotionally repressed what chance does the rest of us have. I appreciate the thought though.
Where's Mike St. Jean?
God bless Devi
There surprisingly isnt that many people there for Wacken
Love the second guitarist rocking a PRS SE, great cheap guitars.
Colin Christensen dude I have 2 of them. Amazing guitars! Especially the 245!
You wont guess which one from the audience is my favourite.
The red head with slit wrists?
@@alexw8903 didnt concentrate on the wrists, but until you pointed that out, yes her :D
Who the **** mixed the vocals? They sound like a recording of my phone...
are you listening to this from your phone? cuz it sounds fine to me...
It sounds ok. It really isnt mixed that well.
Zenos7 - I think his voice is also a bit fatigued as far as screaming goes in this performance. His regular singing is fine, just seems to have passed his screaming threshold at some point before this show.
At this performance he said he'd spent the entire day recording vocals in the studio, so I'm sure his voice was hurting.
Arenas are super difficult to mix. I think it's okay. For sure not the best, but I hear a lot of fatigue in his own vocals, too. There are a lot of variables to consider.
Poor Devin sounds as if he blew his voice out before this particular show. He still sounds okay, but he's usually astounding live...
The virgin metal band having mosh pits
vs
The chad Devin band having hug pits
Howly shit they are quite good god damn :D (i only know him from a few songs from strapping young lad! ;) )

nick nax Yeah she was a cutter. 😒
Shonna Nelson Williams well, at least she looked happy there 😊
nick nax Music is the best medicine. 👍
