Not to subtract from him accomplishing this, but it probably helped that 2/3 of his work was already written, recorded, and well recognized in the BM scene/fans by the time he formed the new line-up.
@purguetheplague Exactly! I talked to Jon outside a grocery store in Strömstad while he was on permission from jail. And he was doing great while putting the band back together.. A great guy and really polite despite the incident in gothenburg.

Great remaster! Prolly the best metal concert recorded on video. One of the most important for sure. Miss Dissection, super sad there is no chance to witness this live.
One of my biggest regrets in life is not seeing Dissection live when they played in my podunk Kansas city in the 90s. I was a kid but i was already going to shows at these venues despite being underage (the 80s and 90s were fucking epic). I saw Napalm Death the year before Dissection played the same venue and i became a metal fan for life. Jon was arrested not long after and that was that. I never had another opportunity until Reinkaos came out and i didnt see them live then. What a fucking waste.
I was actually lucky to catch them with At the Gates & Morbid Angel in Detroit ‘96! Great f’n show!!! In my earlier years of living in L.A. I had a roommate from MO. He told me he was supposed to go to that show but got grounded for a bad report card so figured he’d catch them the next time they came around. Needless to say that never happened and yes…I was rotten enough to pour salt in that wound! 😆
That solo at 56:00 does it for me. Up there with the solo on Spaceship Landing by Kyuss. That nice arpeggio over the top of the heavy, repetitive riff takes me out there! A new fave!

Concerning Jon and Dissection, i am a total ego. Jon should of continued. I respected him very much and he chose his own path - post prison at least. I think he knew what to do a long time before so i suspect he felt strong and free. This is a great concert in the true sense of the word. In the end i am very happy for what he gave us.

I remind you that this was not just a concert, it was the return of Dissection in which everything had to be perfect, in response to your discovery I can tell you that this audio went through a mastering, to be released as DVD or CD or Vinyl etc, So what I mean is that after having all these audios and clips they were able to put arrangements on top so that the clip comes out much better, another thing that could be is that it was playback, which is impossible, because in the clip of black horizons Jon makes several mistakes when singing and playing. at the concert in 1997 in koln and in many more, In the same part you point out, Johan Norman and Jon play the rhythm part of the song, forgetting the tremolo picking as they did here. However, here they did that, put an audio over it, and made some arrangements to things that didn't turn out quite right, why do you think Black Horizons isn't on this DVD? 😉. too many mistakes that left me putting it aside, I hope I have answered your question.

I was transcribing The Somberlain by ear, and using live clips as a backup to the original studio recording any time I wanted to double check what I thought I was hearing.. I can get really meticulous with transcriptions, so this was more about me being confused than trying to criticize 😄 and yeah Black Horizons is a difficult song! I finished transcribing and recording that one before I started transcribing The Somberlain.

This live and Emperor's performance at Wacken in 2006 are legendary! Hail to these great bands.
Hypocrisy and Dissection live at Wacken in the late 90s are so much h better. But Emperor is admirable.
